I would absolutely rather watch a Red Bull Reclined DH Series over any e-Bike, Snow bike, or... actually this list is pretty long. Also, now that we can't afford to watch UCI DH the market is ripe for new events!

@kungfupanda: I'm sure your heart's in the right place, but if you 'can't afford' $9 a month for a few months during DH season, you have other issues that you should deal with (since your profile says you're in your 40s).

 @suspended-flesh: It's more of a won't pay then can't pay I'd hope. Even crackheads have Spotify Premium, that's 10 whatevers a month.

This was hands down one of the sketchiest, yet most fun things I’ve ever attempted on two wheels!! Inspired by the goat himself - Kirt Voreis!

Jumps might be tricky, but there's not far to fall, your feet and hands are miles in front of your centre of gravity, so no fear of OTB. Getting suspension to work might need re valving - I remember Martyn Ashton riding for the first time after the injury, and because of the legs not acting as suspension, it was a terrible pogo stick, and this would be similar if you actually tried to make it work properly, rather than for fun and clicks

Seth you need to go head-to-head against the recumbent GOAT Kirt Voreis! East coast - West coast recumbent rivalry!
  • 16 0
They went head to head in recumbent DS at Sea Otter, I believe.
  • 8 0
@Hogfly: Yes, we did! Maybe we can race DH & DS this year!!

**And with only minor revisions, that tubular seat frame could be modified to serve dual-duty as the inevitably needed stretcher to save the EMT's some timeSmile

Seth is awesome!! That was nuts. I loved watching Seth and Voreis going head to head on recumbents at the Sea Otter Dual Slalom. Crazy and entertaining dudes!!

What if the front wheel was reallllly big to for better rollover, traction and speed?? I'd chip in a penny to see that

Rather than a grim donut 3.0 with a 45 degree head angle and a 100 degree seat angle... I'd love to see a think tank/group think take on a real DH/FR recumbent. Everyone watching this was thinking of opportunities to make this less of a spectacle... Bigger front wheel, weight balance, riding position, bars set up... Part of the fun of the video is how bad that thing is in this application. Seeing people test concepts to actually make it viable... That'd be fun, too.
  • 2 0
@Glenngineer: rake the HT back that far and it's pretty much the same as a recumbent. Wheel flop is going to be horrible, but on the steeps, the COG of a recumbent just seems to work better. Might have to nudge my friendly neighbourhood mech engineer to crunch the numbers.

A big wheel would hit your pedals.

Oh I'm onboard with the ridiculousness. I was thinking Penny-farthing -esque raked out big wheel chopper style ridiculousness.

YES! Mountain bike design is not in stone! It's still not totally figured out. A recumbent has a lower center of gravity! What if this had a bit bigger, fatter wheels, real suspension and a robust build? A friend of mine built recumbents in the 70s. He called it the sofa cycle. I was a cat one road racer at the time. He lent me one, and in a few weeks, I could do two wheel drifts on the pavement. I couldn't do that very well on a traditional bike.
Am I crazy?

hahahahahahaha

Dude you're a legend, my hearth jumped at every berm you railed with what seemed to be no control at all. Didn't even know this was a real thing (not some custom made shenenigans bike). You truly are a master at this, you'd have to pay me a lot to try the rock garden section on this, two thumbs up cheers !

And here I thought my 90's hardtail had narrow handlebars! Is that front wheel ever twitchy!
  • 4 0
I was expecting total carnage. Mad respect for riding that!

At first I thought that we were gonna see another example of self-abuse on video, but he really came across as quite lucid. And, he made it.! Pretty much...
  • 2 0
Honestly...a purpose-built recumbent with suspension and a better cockpit, and good tires would work without being that sketchy.
  • 4 0
I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.

Hahaha stoked you liked it! Smile

Damn, those were some great line choices! Also dope to see a Ferrum bike in the background, seen out in the wild.

Now I want to see someone build a legit DH recumbent with a dual crown and proper parts just to see what’s possible.

Kurt Voreis could probably give this guy a run for his money.

Long, low and slack taken to a whole new level.
Might this be just the right amount of stupid? Cool

I have sold and wrenched on so many of these Bike-E recumbents… hilarious watching one getting ridden at Windrock! I cracked up every time I test rode one on tarmac tho!

Can we see it on a tandem next?
