Wyn Masters has revealed that he is signed up for another three years with GT, taking him to 11 years with the brand.

While there is no factory team for GT in 2024 Wyn Masters will still be riding for the brand this season as his contract continues for three more seasons. Wyn's 11 years with the brand is longer than most riders stay with one brand, but as he says himself it doesn't quite rival the 39 years Hans Rey has been with GT.

bigquotesRolling in to my 9th year with GT Bicycles I’m stoked to say I’ve just locked in another 3 to take it to 11 years not quite the 39 years that Hans Rey will have, but still I am proud to have the longevity and loyalty to one brand, especially as a GT was actually my first ever mountain bike so it’s definitely a dream to now be on their team! Here’s a bunch of memories from the last 8 and a bit years, thanks to everyone behind the scenes who makes this happen. Let the good times keep rolling! Wyn Master

Interestingly, while Wyn is still riding for GT in 2024, the UCI team list lists him as a member of The Gravity Cartel - Rogue Racing team at World Cups this year. We contacted Wyn for more details and he confirmed the team listing is correct.

This a Wynn for GT. Every team is trying to capitalize on their own media hype for DH world cup, GT are the Masters.

 @Telemahn: It's a Wynn Wynn situation...

There’s a couple of UCI listed teams with a lot of riders and I do wonder if the riders have just got together and pooled their resources to form a team just to be able to compete at events without having to earn qualifying points.

I'm pretty sure that's why BNC Racing (Brayton, Edmundson, Parton and 3 other Brits) came into being.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UCI changed the rules at some point to prevent riders from doing this!

Love the longevity. Go Wyn and Go Hans!!

They will likely be the only ones left lol

"Interestingly, while Wyn is still riding for GT in 2024, the UCI team list lists him as a member of The Gravity Cartel - Rogue Racing team at World Cups this year. "
I was going to write that in the comment section... Have you reached out to Wyn to ask about it???

I've just contacted Wyn this morning. I'm currently working on a few articles around the team lists which should hopefully have more details about some of the changes or missing riders in the list.

Rogue Racing has GT as a frame sponsor. I’m sure part of the deal was that they carry Wyn’s registration for races. It’s similar to how Kade Edwards is on the Union team on the registration.

To continue: GT is frame sponsor for Rogue racing, Viris UK, Viris Australia, and an all women’s team that I can’t recall the name of
right now.

GTFR is dead, but Wyn is forever.

Here are a few of my favorite Wyn Masters quotes! And clearly, he’s still “Wyning”! At least I think they were from Wyn...I wrote them down during my Whistler ride-hard and party-harder years, so things are a bit fuzzy.

“...that's how I roll, because I have one speed, one gear...I'm different. I have a different constitution, I have a different brain, I have a different heart. I got tiger blood, man. Dying's for fools, dying's for amateurs.”

“I'm tired of pretending like I'm not special. I'm tired of pretending like I'm not bitching, a total fricking rock star from Mars, and people can't figure me out, they can't process me. I don't expect them to. You can't process me with a normal brain.”

“The only thing I'm addicted to right now is winning.”

“You make a choice to win and you win...”

“I’m done with the winning cause I’ve already won.”

Great quotes, but you kept misspelling wyn and wynning.

You omitted the best one: "I'm not here to f*ck spiders."

Well deserved and smart move by GT. Interesting watching how sponsorship priorities change over time. I love watching anything Wyn is in, whether he’s riding or doing his awesome Wyn TV

Love this for Wyn and for GT - seems like a great fit and happy to see it continue. All of the Privateer stuff he does is amazing

Worth every penny. A one man marketing juggernaut.

Interesting that a strong social media following is as important as results to sponsor. Good on Wyn & good on GT for keeping him.

It's all about sales and numbers ultimately. The days of race results and magazine covers is long gone (obviously). As weird as it is to see guys like Seth with sponsorship deals, that's our new reality I suppose. As you pointed out, Wyn seems to have carved out a nice mix of socials and racing, along with a handful of other riders doing the same. The successful athletes of the future will have to be doing the same.

Without judging if it should be this way, it's likely more important for a lot of brands, especially DTC. Look at Canyon: their focus is on selling a lot of bikes (especially eBikes) to less fanatical riders than your typical WC DH viewer. If you're in the target audience you likely can't do what Minnaar or Holll do, NOR what Wibmer & Pilgrim do, but you think "I can huck some stairs and jump my 10K ebike - I'll buy a Canyon and ride like them!"
  • 4 0
@plyawn: Canyon also sponsors 6 teams across e-edr, edr, xc and dh. As well as cross and road. One of the largest supporters of UCI racing.

Back in the day Wyn used to say "Win or lose, we're on the booze". Now he's more responsible, lol.

Well someone has to like GT bikes, I suppose
  • 4 0
honest question: what do you really not like? I'm not always a fan of the design and spec, but they consistently seem to be (a) decent performing and (b) least insane pricing. I don't "love" them but certainly don't hate them like some of the new Scott models
