Pinkbike Video of the Year Presented by Strength In Numbers - $40,000+ in Prizing

The Pinkbike Video of the Year presented by Strength in Numbers is now under way. With only a month until SIN premieres at Sea Otter, Pinkbike and the boys at Anthill Films we were able to put together this VOY contest. After the hugely successful Photo of the Year contest a few months back, we had to get something together for videographers. We've wrangled over $40,000 in prizing for some lucky filmers from our sponsors; Shimano, Trek, Evoc, Pro, Contour, CLIF Bar , Summer Gravity Camps, Whistler Bike Park and Strength in Numbers.

The videos were judged by a panel led by the Anthill Films crew, Coastal Crew, Aaron Larocque and Nic Genovese. The criteria for a video entered was:
- No movie teasers
- No commercial videos
- Sub 8.5 minutes in length
- No videos by judges
- Uploaded between Jan 1, 2011 - Jan 31, 2012
- Min 20,000 views on Pinkbike

- Summer Gravity Camp – depending on age, the winner will receive a Youth ( 12-18 ) or Adult (19+) 2012 SGC Camp which includes 6 days of coaching, 7 nights stay in the Tantalus Lodge, daily access to the Air Done and Air Bag, Lift Line priority at the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, Airport shuttles to Whistler if needed, first and last night’s dinner, breakfast and lunch daily, and a custom SGC Dakine pack and jersey.

 I think Matt Miles at Sun Peaks will take it. Everyone loves that video. And if the wasn't a sponsored video, it would probably be "Whistler Bike Park Elements Of Perfection: Soul". Because that edit was just outstanding.

 Well I totally agree it pretty much destroys the average joes chances of winning , you can't really tell him "hey , you're good already ..we want you to stop being good so everyone else can catch up. You're not allowed to participate"
Anyone should be allowed to join in. Besides , if your video is truly good it will get fame anyways. Having him there won't change that

 SWEET BABY JESUS! I have never seen such awesome prizes. Like each time I scrolled down I had to gasp. But considering the amount of work and talent that goes into VODs this swag will be well earned. I'm just ultra stoked that I can start every day with an amazing and free VOD, and that Strength in Numbers will be free as well. That's prize enough, haha.

 i am having a hard time with this. I want to vote based off of the edit but i find myself biased to who the rider is and whats happening in the video. In that case i am voting for the best riding and not the best video editing. Frown

Was there a call for entries ever announced - where could one have "entered" - or is more just like an awards/celebration thing, like the Oscars, where entry is just assumed by producing and publishing a video?

 considering dh has only just taken of big time and bmx/dj/street has been around for as far as i remember and then some so i recon its dh's time to shine to be fair but yes they are both exceptional good videos and they both deserve to win. but then "cale" is right in saying that Danny Filmer would of made a stack load of money from that video as even the BBC has played it in concrete circus good vid though guys and girls

 The whole idea of this competition is to expose and promote freely produced videos for your entertainment, especially those film makers who aren't exactly paid professionals yet still produce some professional looking content.
Sure, you could hand the prize over the Guy X or Dude Y, but why not encourage and nurture future or lesser known talent?

 I dont know about that. Stu thompson from MTBcut is just as much a professional as Larocque, and has a pretty good chance of winning thanks to his Megaskill video which was produced for TV... Maybe Silvia can mount a challenge!

 Just because a professional rider is the subject of the video, that in no way means that the filmer makes any kind of money. It's pretty damn hard to make any kind of money shooting action sports, so it's great that the filmers have a chance to get something back for all the hard, unpaid hours they've put in (ontop of the thousands of dollars they've probably paid out of their own pockets for gear.)

 The people who made Macaskill's video's would have made a killing for the amount of hit's they've received on youtube, so yes in that case the filmer not only made some money...but after millions of views probably made more than enough to buy one of each of these prizes and then some. It would've be nice had the guys recognized this and not included such a big name.
