Def thought he would have placed way higher but happy to see how stoked he was on his run regardless of score. The roar of the crowd said it all just how impressive that run was.
@fullbug: They had an interview with him between first and second runs. Showed a video of him riding around his neighborhood. Still recovering but encouraging to see him riding a bike.
@chyu: yes I'm sure they have colluded to make sure Sorge would win... it was probably Russian hackers
Damn judge's need to stop talking between each other and influencing each other's opinions. Use 2 judge's per criteria and add up the scores. No discussing between judges and shit will work out better. Gotta be hard to judge either way though.
How many of the judges threw tricks into any of their runs? That said there has been so much hate towards what seems to be the most likeable guy. What gives? He got no love from Kona despite outriding Aggy and their previous support of French riders, he's been underscored in FMB and Rampage. Does he smell bad? Is he secretly a cult member? Is everyone just jealous of how he has the balls to still regularly do double back flips after a neck injury? Is he too happy? Is he gay? Something's up and super fishy.
Shit judging again and again. It's a pity disappointed riders do not take a place at Atherton line in Wales where the only judge is a clock. Such a simple.
@kulten: Judged events will always have complaints, its the biggest issue in having individuals making subjective interpretations of peoples runs whether its mtb, skateboarding, gymnastics, figure skating, etc. There has been and always will be contentious issues surrounding judged events. You want a clear winner, watch racing like you said. There isn't really anyone in this comment section who has any connection to the winners or the outcomes so really there isn't much of a reason to complain. Yes, we are all entitled to an opinion, but regardless of who won it was an awesome event to watch and lots of crazy riding and progression all around.
@srellis13: definitely it seemed to me judges just wanted a sorge win... and Brett Rheeder should have with that run definitely been able to have been put into top spot! Rheeder, Genon and T-Mac should definitely get podium spots if not the top spot in future Redbull Rampages..
I liked how focused Rheeder was at the Start gate!! Big Slopestyle on steroids run... should have easily been a 2nd or a 1st on it
"He's happy with his run one score"- Cam McCaul... Surely he wasn't happy with his score, he was happy with his run and couldn't improve it and hence decided to not risk it because the judges would rob him anyway.
Bizet got robbed - maybe. But judges want to see sth different than straight flips all the way down imo. Variety is important. For me Kyle Strait with his style and variety should get a podium.
Lacondeguy was robbed either btw for me his top line was much more dangerous than zinks straight
@bashhard: after watching all of the replay pretty much... a lot the riders were better then Ethan Nell he did good but what ever the judges were looking at this year was messed up!
Bizet, Rheeder, Tom Van Steenbergen and Genon should have gotten different scores..!!!!!
Shit judging towards the euro riders especially Bizet. Doesn’t matter how you look at it, the fact that there is only one european judge between only north american judges is bad
Bizet. 2 massive backflip step downs, a front flip and a double flip, and a relatively ok tech bit. Zink. Crazy steep chute, 2 backflip step downs, and a backflip.
I mean, bizet got robbed for sure, but you can't call bizets stepdown flip massive and not call zink's massive. Hard to question sorge-zink going 1-2, those runs were enormous. I'd have filled out the top five with bizet, storch and lacondeguy (in any order) but there were so many sick runs. sorge's victory lap was the chillest big mountain riding I think I've ever seen, he was just on a different level comfort wise.
that's simply horrible, that russian bleed... every other languages are neat. no to be an evil here nor a troll BUT realisation too, what if we don't switch enough fast from the rear angle so nobody can see half of the runs... so basically they put in an awesome effort to go live for rampage eve and THE event of the year and then they just explode live ! soooooo shame... as you said Cam: good or bad pinkbike comments?!
Coolest thing I've seen at Rampage in long time. Yes it's a trick but it had such a freeride vibe to it. Of course no one will ever do it again seeing as it only gets you 1/3 of a point.
@pdxjeremy: It would have been a much higher score if he didn't put his foot down before the drop. It made it look like he was hesitating so that's probably why his score was lower. But still a, super gnarly, and super creative trick. One of the coolest things to watch for sure
@labiker9: That's exactly what I thought too. They never really mentioned it during the live feed though. He came to a complete stop and put a foot down. Probably footing was off. But you can't expect not to be docked flow points on that. Bummer though, without that pause I'm certain his score would have been bettered by greater than .33
What has Rampage come to? It's like 3 drops to the bottom then it's a slopestyle contest. First time I've ever been bored watching Rampage. Not one landing or take-off is virgin soil. Every line is manicured / set-up to be shredable. Built to be trickable. I can't be too surprised though, it's been that way for the last few of em. The rampage of today is not even close to what it once was. Turned it into a damn Xgames dirt jump competition. I want to see riders launching off raw rock rollers into piles of virgin utah moon dust. Only half or the riders or less even make it down without crashing. That is the spirit of Rampage! The nearly un-ridable. Now anyone can ride down it because its like a bike park. Bring back the original Rampage!! Tricks should not even be something going through your mind, it's that gnar to just ride down and survive. Now they judge more from tricks it's like a damn slopestyle contest. Original Rampage we miss you!!
I'm with you part way along. I'm glad they took out the wood features, and there is still more digging than I'd prefer. On the other side of the coin, I was just talking with my buddy about the drop Tyler Klassen did back in 2002. We were there for that drop and it was mind blowing at the time. Now Zink is backflipping taller drops than Super T did, but Super T's drop was into raw, almost totally ungroomed terrain. It's hard to compare. But when you say "anyone can ride down it", you lose most of your cred. Have you ever been to the event? It's humbling to be there and see it in person. The last component that is worth considering to me is that the grooming does help avoid injuries. I was also at the '04 Rampage when they had to heli out Lance Canfield, and there have been many other serious injuries. I think you may have lost some of the competitors if the true raw gladiator flavor had been pushed much further.
@DaKahuna: "Anyone can ride down it" was an obvious hyperbole. I agree that you would lose some percentage of competitors if the event was kept as raw and dangerous as it used to be. But the raw gladiator flavor is what we want to see! This is SPARTA!
@scottyrides5: I totally agree! I guess RBR had to take a more "sustainable" approach. I'm just gad they're still able to make full use of the terrain without some whack enviros crying about the digging.
great run by zink. my only complaint is how sour the dude is when he loses. and it's always the judges fault... Sorge's run was better and I thought Genon's run was better too.
@shredddr: @shredddr: . Cam is the only rider throwing super stilish tricks, running the biggest lines, and doing it at racer speed. Him and McCaul are really tapping into what this sport should be. Oh yeah, and Bizet got robbed!
I went to Rampage last year. This year, watching it live from home once again, I've had much more of an emotional connection to it then I did before. So my advice: get yourself to atleast one Rampage! It's amazing in person, but it'll also reward you for years after the event too.
Sick rampage, was frustrated with the Russians having their say... but now getting frustrated with this absolutely shit camera work... How long has the film team had to get shit into good positions!?... seriously...????
Can you please film some more of the crowd and bushes and mountainside when the rider is about to go huge... I dont watch rampage for the action anyways ???? #worstcameraworkever
Most of you that are complaining have never freeridin sh*t. Go find the scariest untouched line possible at home(i.e. not a trail that was built already) now hit it blind and do any of the tricks seen at this rampage. Skidding down a untouched line is great don’t get me wrong but to back flip off a 30+ cliff in a line takes a little more preparation. That is the progression of the sport. Maybe you can find a time machine on the interweb to take you back to 2001!!! And Bizet should have scored higher.
I could be completely wrong, but the only thing I can think of is that Bizet skipped his big feature and maybe that meant he used someone else's line without permission? Other than that, the math just doesn't add up.....
@dea7hadder: Um, yeah, that's pretty much what I'm saying. The alternative is that riders could show up and let the other competitors do all the digging, then just go steal their lines. There's days worth of work that goes into building before the 1 minute glory ride. Don't understand what you're missing here. But I honestly don't know if that's what happened to Bizet or not, it's a guess.
I laughed at that too. There was also a good one referring to one of the riders "silencing their quietness." Might have been referring to Ethan Nell, I forget, but it's some fine choice of wording.
Same people who are saying Rampage is a slope comp are complaining about Bizet being underscored. Cant have it both ways! Bizet's run definitely was underscored though.
personally this judging is why mtb racing is more satisfying to me, theres no judges, the only judge is the clock, they should have a round of speed runs at rampage and see who gets down fastest, then rampage can have an indisputable winner in at least one regard.
IMO the kid on the Trek shoulda won. He took some BIG mountain lines(which IMO is what this should be about), then pulled off a front flip, then some back flips The winning run was a bunch of back flips, and the lines dude took weren't as gnarly as the TREK Kid's
Bizet didn't get robbed, he just based his round on tricks variety but missed big drops moves as Zink, Sorge and others did. The round was amazing but not smart enough for a free-ride competition. I understand this event is pretty confusing in terms of judging cause it looks more like Slopestyle nowadays, so I hope the Redbull crew can give Rampage a solid enough identity to make it more coherent.
Next year they should let the public do the judging via an independent source or something at least I think that would be fairer maybe a poll per run or an overall performance
Shit judging again and again. It's a pity disappointed riders do not take a place at Atherton line in Wales where the only judge is a clock. Such a simple.
Why does Zink seem like a poor sport... He looked so mad and upset when Sorge beat him... Just chill dude, jeez.. Throw a smile out once in a while.
GO SORGE!!!!!
All the Moms and Dads over there at Rampage should give their kids some hats or caps to prevent them from sunburn or sunstroke. Especially Zink's girls ran around for hours without any protection.
And Bizet rode way better than he was judged.
WHY THE f*ck WOULD YOU DO THAT ON A FRIDAY AT NOON!!! WHY NOT SATURDAY??? NOW I HAVE TO STAY OFF MY PHONE ALL DAY AT WORK YOU MOTHERf*ckERS!!! YES I KNOW CAP LOCKS ARE IRRITATING
@CoffeeHouseMedia: the date was announced a while ago so I doubt they took account of the weather. Saturday would jave left a window gor Sunday in case of bad weather. Eat a bag of dicks

Robbed

Some dodgy scoring as always, but some people simply always score lower than expected. Clearly favouritism going down.
WTF?
Edit ; sorry, not so clear...
as you said Cam: good or bad pinkbike comments?!

will help

SALUTE

WTF
That was super convenient...
