Back by popular demand, Interbike strikes Las Vegas for the twenty-first year in a row. The dirt demo is still at the unassumingly rugged Bootleg Canyon, but the indoor show has moved to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Day one is the dirt demo at Bootleg Canyon, where riders, media, and industry people get a chance to test all the new goods, shake a few hands, and get heatstroke.

fear and loathing in las vegas,,

"“We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.” ""

 leer and frothing !

Watched this last night. 'Don't stop here. ITS BAT COUNTRY!' or "As your lawyer, I advise you to........"
  • + 0
Think that movie is hilarious, just wait till you see Nick Cage's acting in Leaving Las Vegas... an absolute riot!
  • + 13
did you just compare fear and loathing to nick cage?
  • + 3
Nick Cage won an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas. And with good reason. He gives it his all....for better or worse.
  • + 5
“We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold.”
  • + 2
“In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity.” Interbike maybe the only good reason to go to Vegas.
  • + 1
Townes. Come at me bro. Good sh*t!
  • + 9
We had two sets of wheels, seventy-five spokes, five sets of dual-casing tires, a new carbon frame, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored nipples, bolts, barends, pedal pins... and also a quart of fork oil, a quart of DOT4, a case of tools, a pint of chain lube and two dozen tubes. Not that we needed all that for the ride, but once you get locked into a serious mountainbiking, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

I wonder if Shimano will launch anything new to compete with XX1
  • - 9
Why would they? they already have saint and everyone knows that saint is the tits.
  • + 2
"Compete" would be a 1x groupset with a bigger range than Saint.

Saint doesn't currently directly compete with XX1 does it? For downhill and freeride, sure. But for XC and AM, the extra range of XX1 is a big draw.
  • + 9
all Shimano needs for now is a ten speed cassette that goes to 42T like the XX1 does. other than offering one extra gear XX1's true advantage is the wider range, imho. then Shimano can work on something to release that will be better than XX1 in the future. I think they are still assessing how systems like XX1 will do in today's market. Since SRAM released it already it's a real world case study in action from Shimano's perspective. but this is just, like, my opinion man.
  • + 4
The problem with a 10 speed system running a large gear as big as 40 or 42t, is that the jumps between sprockets is irregular. Resulting in the chain skipping and jumping on change up and down even without load. Hence why sram had to push 11 to get the shifting quality they wanted.
  • + 3
i'd buy a wider range 1x10 or 2x10 even a 24x38 or 40 would be sweet for grinding up

i don't wana see black and white, i wana see colors and components !!! NOW !
  • + 18
I agree some BW is cool but Vegas IS colour, not enjoying all BW. Mix it up!
  • - 9
As a photographer I like the B&W for these sorts of pics.
  • + 6
I thought it was a cool way to mix it up. At the outdoor demo, you've got less shiny things to take, but don't worry the indoor begins in one more day and then the colors will flow.
  • + 4
We all know what Vegas in colour looks like. Showing it in black and white for a change lets us perceive it differently, at least that's how I see it. Great pictures!!
  • + 4
Bike parts don't count deeight Razz
  • - 3
this is cool and all. but id much rather see new stuffs. hoping PB is gonna come through.. cause i had to go to vital for euro bike this year.. they totally smashed on PB in terms of coverage.
  • + 2
Interbike doesn't really get going (the inside the convention center / booth display posts) until friday, the next couple days will be dirt demo stuff.
  • + 0
poop. i guess that makes sense then! thanks for the heads up!
  • + 1
Also compared to renting space in the trade center, you can just buy tickets to attend dirt demo, bring your products like that bamboo bike RC just posted about, and hope someone in the media asks about it.
  • + 1
huh. thats pretty neat.. learn something new everyday.

Whats with the Rudy aero helmets? Ugh. I can see it now; Lycra-clad, aero helmet, and iPhone-mounted, Strava gym jocks on our trails. Sigh... People are losing touch with the zen of riding in nature.
  • + 2
those people never had it to begin with.. any real rider doesnt need any of that sh!t, just his bike, helmet, and some gloves Wink
  • + 2
Someone tell those two they are wearing the new rudy project all mountain helmets backwards.....I hope.
  • - 2
Any real rider doesn't need gloves, what are you on about jumpman2334?
  • + 1
eh, its personal preference. what a real rider doesnt need is the stuff that kerplunk posted. and i agree with him Smile
  • + 2
@h82, LOL! Yes, they should be turned around. Hehe... However I believe these are from the Rudy Wingspan collection and are indeed intended to be aero helmets. I will start laughing when I see these pop up on the local trails, which they will, worn by those that believe technology will make them better, faster riders versus hard practice and talent. XC racers will then be the next crop to adopt these to theoretically shave off a 1/10 of second due to wind resistance. I say why wear clothes at all? Shave all that body hair off and just race naked. ;-) Heck, they do it at the annual Fremont Solstice Ride. Viva la aeroskin!
  • + 1
Sometimes I wish I could delete my comments. I guess we all use technology to some degree to assist with our ride, whether it be suspension or tires or whatever. I think what I am really trying to say is that hard work and talent should come first, then layer on the technology where it makes sense.

Gorgeous photos. You get sick of the brown, brown, brown after a few days in Bootleg, so B&W is brilliant. And, "back by popular demand?" Haha. I haven't worked Interbike in three years and I'm STILL tired from that week. Thanks for letting me live it from my couch.
  • - 4
I was about to complain about the B&W photos until you hit the nail on the head. Thanks for saving me the neg props...

This is a shout out and invitation to come ride Bootleg Canyon. I am a local rider and the park is a popular stop for many travelling winter riders. Winter and Spring are milder temperatures although we were in the high 80's F in March already. Checkout www.bootlegcanyon.net for a trail map. Definitely NOT a beginner's park. There is often a shuttle running to the top on Fri, Sat and Sun during the cooler months. Trails vary from XC - AM - DH. Not a root to be found. Tons of single track and well it is pretty much one huge rock garden (major traction) Hell, a lot of the DH is single track. ; ).

Photos are black and white for cheap hipster artsy points?

Easy on filters makes your photography better.
  • + 1
^ Just because you don't have the sophistication to appreciate something different, doesn't make it bad.
  • - 1
 Pretentiousness is not sophistication.

Those "artsy" filters are a crutch.
  • + 1
Everyone has their own style. these guys are just trying to keep it fresh and intersting. And its not really "artsy", its just B&W. I dont see a dozen Instagram filters on any picture.
  • + 1
I was not talking about instagram. Photoshop, built-in "art" filters like in Olympus. All that. Not art.
  • + 1
I dont want to get in a heated argument on what is and isnt art. Its what anyone wants it to be. I've seen people sell pictures of their sh!t. So this is to me is just trying to spice up journalism.

  • + 2
I meant to mean I work at a lame shop that doesnt send people to interbike, we basically have to pay our own way which sucks
