The Big Show Results and Pictures The Big Show Results and Pictures
So all the big guns came out and put on another great show for the over 15,000 spectators in attendance. It was off the hook for sure!!! Only 20 of the 23 qualifiers started due to injuries. The next 6 guys in line were called up to the big show about an hour before start, but none made it in time-next time boys.

Before the big show, the Kokanee Sasquatch did a run through the course and sent the big 22 ft Gap O Tron for the crowd. The Kokanee girls were in HOT pursuit, but he got away.

Folling that, the New World Disorder 7 Teaser was shown-look out cause they have another killer on the loose!! Sick teaser. Enough about the pre-game show though as I know you all want the pictures, so here you go:

Wednesday night of the Crankworx festival was insane with happenings and events all over the village. At any given time it seemed as though there was 4 things going on at once. Mike and I decided to split up and make an effort to hit up 2 things each in order to tell you all about the wonderful after hours shows going on up here. While I loaded up and headed out to Emerald for the SRAM and Cove Bikes Wiffle Golf Invitational, Mike was headed to the Air Dome launch. Mike didn't make it that far after getting his ankle ran over, he got to hang out at the hospital until he was cleared to go. Mike's fine, one big ol' swollen foot (picture to come later) and a good night's sleep was his reward. Expect some killer pics from Thursday's SlopeStyle qualifiers as he planted himself up there for your viewing pleasure. But enough about Mike-this story is about Wiffle Golf!!

Doug Dalton of Cannondale bikes had been wrangling a bunch of us up to go for a nice Wednesday morning ride with him for a few days now. Well with little more then "So are you coming riding in the morning?" to go on I had to inquire a little more. Well Doug is this an XC ride we're hitting up, what's going on?

So Doug finally spills the beans, "I have a new bike and I really want you guys to get a good feel for it, so I'm taking you on a shuttle ride." Sweet a shuttle, I can work with this.

I have met a lot of rad people since my introduction to the mountain bike scene back in the high school days. A lot of inspiration comes from people that are so passionate about what they do. I have been inspired with not only the amazing riding I have witnessed but also, how amazing it is to capture that riding. Inspired by the shows I have worked with and the people who capture it, I needed to try some these roles first hand. Working as co producer with my partner Mike Kinrade producing the web show STUND I have also taken on the role for the show as lifestyle photographer.

Day 1 and 2- Kokanee Crankworx 2006 Day 1 and 2- Kokanee Crankworx 2006
Canadian National Downhill Championships

I arrived Saturday afternoon to a very busy and extremely hot Whistler. The beats were pounding, the beer was flowing and the riders were sweating... alot. I did not get a chance to see the XC race happen as I arrived too late, but I did catch a glimpse of the downhill practise and the Pro Mens seeding run. Tyler Morland who was sporting race plate # 1 was killing it all day, as well as #4 plate, Andrew Mitchell who rides for Cove bikes was very smooth and fast. The Pro seeding runs went down, and most riders took it pretty easy not pushing it to hard. When all was said and done Andrew Mitchell took the honours, with Geoff Beatie close behind.

Another Epic road trip to the Canadian XC Championships saw Team Whistler & the Epic Ride Team go through to the thriving Sun Peaks. Like an ambitious mini Whistler, Sun Peaks seems to have picked up the enthusiasm Whistler has lost & is running with it, attracting not only the XC nationals but also the World Masters in September. Sure Whistler has Crankworx, but the whole Freeride revolution only appeals to a very limited market of mountain bikers. Surely Rob Mcskimming & the other over-cautious mountain skeptics that prevented Whistler claiming the UCI World Cup double header are now finally regretting their decision especially in the light of Whistler’s economic downturn.

Mucho, mucho respect goes out to Tam and Jason, they have created a bike movie that will set a new standard in the world of sports editing; beautiful filming, breathtaking views, incredible editing, world class riding and a rad soundtrack to boot. These two guys have built this world class film with nearly nothing. I may have a semi-biased opinion because I happen to be a rider in the film. But you will all agree with me once you play it for yourself.

US National Champs: Double Podium! US National Champs: Double Podium!
This year our US national champs race was held at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. The DH course was to be a sub 2 minute run without much elevation to work with. The 4X course was actually built well, with a really tricky last straight-away rhythm section. Tales from the Trails: 10 days of Whistler - Part Tales from the Trails: 10 days of Whistler - Part I
Last month I was lucky enough to be able to take some time off with my girl Tobi and spend 10 days in beautiful British Columbia. The trip was one of the best I’ve had to date. We traveled 12 hours in a ridiculously cramped Mazda 626 that just got out of the shop the same week. We needed room for three of us as our good friend Peter decided he’d poach a ride out. With the bikes neatly stacked and strapped to the trunk of the car we headed west. We weren’t quite sure if we’d make it but what’s life without a little adventure right?

Ahhhh tires – the only point of contact between the bike and mother earth! Don’t know about you, but for me nothing bolsters my self confidence more than a fresh set of high performing tires. I can have all the latest and greatest bits on my bike, but if the tires aren’t up to par I end up worrying about it too much and in the end it ruins my ride experience. Nothing can ruin your ride like crashing hard because your front tire washed where it should have hooked up!

Adidas Slopestyle 06! Adidas Slopestyle 06!
When it comes down to putting on a big show, each and every year Adidas throws it down and puts together the most memorable comp to kick off the season. This year the sports market giant opened the flood gates for anyone wanting to get in on the action. There was a massive qualifying for the youngsters to get into a few hots seats for the main event. The big dogs had to put it all on the line for a sudden death qualifying, and the final showdown had a stacked roster of riders who all could have taken home the gold. There was a large list of DNS and DNFers which kept the EMTs on their toes. Somewhere in between there was time for everyone to hangout somewhere with a change of scenery, down a few hefienvisssen, eat cheese pizzas and bologna, have blurry cab rides back to airport to re-coope, and come home to a shanked bike in a box. Cannondale Prophet 4X-In Great detail Cannondale Prophet 4X-In Great detail
There are a lot of bicycle companies around these days but few have the colorful history of Cannondale. A lot of these companies sprang up in people’s garages and basements back in the day but how many can say they began life in the loft of a pickle factory? And very few of those companies that were around back then can claim they still manufacture they’re goods here in mainland America. Thirty five years ago Cannondale debuted the first trailer for a bicycle, the Bugaboo, and since then it’s been an interesting ride. The first bike, a touring model, was sold to the public in 1983 and that was followed a year later with a road and mountain bike. All three of these were built with aluminum tubes which today are not such a big deal with a score of aluminum frames being welded in Taiwan, China and even Vietnam for almost every bike company out there. A lot of the credit for the acceptance of aluminum being used for bike frames years ago should go to Cannondale, as they manufactured one of the first readily available alloy bike lines.

Traveling Gong Show-STUND Style-Teaser #2 Traveling Gong Show-STUND Style-Teaser #2
The last time the STUND crew touched base we were busy sending it in Utah, just to pin it home for a day late charge for the R.V. and our 3,000-dollar damage deposit, let’s just say “stolen”. It has been an amazingly busy season so far and things are just heating up! We finished up the Episode 2 teaser in Kelowna to keep everyone exited for the August 15 release of the show. We learned a few more valuable lessons in episode 2, one of them being to never start day 1 off with one of the biggest parties of the year.

Dig Bitch- The Portland Way Dig Bitch- The Portland Way
When I first moved to Portland it took me a while to remember why I transferred here from Minneapolis. Between school, the rain and therefore lack of outdoor riding I was no happy camper. I was able to hook up with the (ex) Mountain Cycle boys and had my first introduction to the riding community. In February all we could do was hit the indoor bmx track and skatepark- it wasn’t my kind of riding but it was wicked exercise, bike handling practice, and a way to meet other riders. The track is where I met other trail riders and Lilias, the only other girl in Portland who really ‘rides’.

Brodie Bikes Sets up US Distribution Brodie Bikes Sets up US Distribution
Brodie Bicycles has partnered with Empyrean Distributors in Scottsdale, Arizona as distributors for the United States. The relationship was set up to enable US dealers to more economically and efficiently carry the storied Vancouver, BC brand. Ernest Vogel of Empyrean explains, “while the brand has always had an almost cultish underground following in the US, dealers were on their own to import the bicycles. Which was both cumbersome and costly.” The new relationship will alleviate those issues for existing brodie dealers, and will make it easier for the company to selectively expand brodie’s dealer base.

Peaty 2nd in Brazil, retains UCI DH series by 178 Peaty 2nd in Brazil, retains UCI DH series by 178 points
Steve Peat (SANTA CRUZ SYNDICATE/SRAM/ROCKSHOX) places 2nd in the UCI World Cup Downhill Series in Brazil behind winner Matti Lehikoinen. Marc Beaumont (MBUK/SANTA CRUZ) flies in for another podium appearance in 5th. Peat had the third fastest split time of the day just .23 ahead of Lehikoinen at 1:42.82, but lost a fraction of a second on the bottom of the course and crosses the line just .09 back with a time of 2:19.40 to Lehikoinen’s 2:19.31. Closest to Peat in the points, Minnaar had the fastest split at 1:42.63, but had bad luck as he suffered a flat tire and a crash to roll in at 23rd place. Syndicate’s Nathan Rennie finished in 17th place.

Ah back in Canada and out of action, but still smi Ah back in Canada and out of action, but still smilling
We are back in Canada, EH!

Amy and I made our way from Frankfurt, Germany to Quebec, Canada a few weeks ago. From sausages to poutine… what a culture shock. But it is nice to be back home for a little while. We landed just in time for the Canada Cup at Mont Ste. Anne a few weeks before the world cup. A great time and solid prep for the World Cup there that weekend.

Sun Peaks and Norco deliver with another great VPS Sun Peaks and Norco deliver with another great VPS Fest
So it was late on friday night and a few of us were thinking that Sun Peaks for a day trip would be killer. Quick check on the net and sure enough they were hosting Norco's VPS Fest on Canada Day!! Sounds like reason enough to see what's been happening up there this spring, do some riding and check out what VPS fest is all about.

Mikey G, Pauwels and I loaded up Saturday morning for a rip at the Peaks and to see why VPS Fest keeps growing year after year.

UXC II Round One Voting Began July 1 UXC II Round One Voting Began July 1
Two months ago, on the hunt for riders worthy to represent Race Face in the 2006 TransRockies XC mountain bike race, Race Face put out the call for riders with chain grease and fork oil in their blood, the unsung heroes of the singletrack, and they have answered.

Now, it’s up to the online mountain bike community to choose which two teams will represent Race Face in one of the most grueling marathon mountain bike races in the world – with all expenses paid. Rider videos and bios of the first four teams are now online at www.raceface.com, and the first round of voting has begun.

Action Sports Environmental Coalition launches web Action Sports Environmental Coalition launches website
For all of you who haven't checked it out yet, the Action Sports Environmental Coalition (asecaction.org) has just released their new interactive website. It's one of the first environmental websites out there that doesn't market to crazy radical hippies and works with bike, skate, and surf athletes and at events like the X-Games. For all of you who want to find out what you can do to help keep our trails and forests from dying and being logged, it's a great resource, and for all of you who want to win free stuff like skate shoes, it's good for that too!
