PRESS RELEASE: Funn MTB

The first rider to leave the start gate and get up to racing speed.

The Funn Holeshot grip is for the racers - high spec and high performance it’s built for ultimate comfort and grip. Built with the input of our elite athletes and two years in development, the Holeshot is for riders that are dedicated to getting out of the gate FAST!

The Holeshot is built to be comfortable in the toughest of terrains.

A deep, plush compound absorbs vibrations and reduces fatigue whilst our unique grip pattern keeps you locked-in whatever the weather.

The underside of the Holeshot features a triple-rib throttle design, with three raised details to grab onto when you need it.

A hardened end section guarantees your grips will ward off damage and a single clamp design keeps them simple, secure and lightweight.

 Can these be used for regular riding or just racing?

 UCI-sanctioned upduro racing only, penalty of use for trail riding is forced everesting on that weird Greyp bike with a dead battery

 Yes.

 grips exist outside of ODI Ruffians?
  • 8 9
 Get with the times grandad there's plenty of amazing options now days (Palmdale death grip one up pnw)
  • 5 0
 I used to be a ruffian man, but I switched to the Elite flow and thought it was better and now on deathgrips which are about the same. Want to try Oneup grips but couldn't find many reveiws if they were better or the same as the ODI/DMR equivalent.
  • 4 1
 Wow, I didn't know there's anything else other than the Rouges!
  • 2 0
 If ODI redid the Ruffian with just an inner clamp then I’d switch back. I still haven’t found anything I like as much but I tend to run my hands right at the ends (regardless of bar length) and prefer there not to be clamp there. Burgtec Bartenders to try next.

 @CustardCountry: I'm exactly the opposite. Grips don't feel right without a nice solid outer ring
  • 2 0
 @brooce: too big in dia for me
  • 1 0
 @hhaaiirryy: hehe, I had some Chromag grips and a couple others... thought they were good! then a put a set of ruffians on ( after a couple years of not having them) INSTANT boost in confidence and feel on the bike.
Similar experience with riding with gloves... think i am getting used to gloves... try a run without and have the best time on the bike/so much more control.
I guess im stuck in my old ways! Smile

 @brooce: never knew there are other grips than rogues out there
  • 1 0
 I had the Brendogs, then they were out of stock at grip time. I went through Gwinners, Funn, ODI, Renthal. Couldn't get that Brendog feeling and went back as soon as I could. I'll never use another grip now.. unless Renthal sort the end of their push ons, then I would.

 @jaame: once got a set of Brendon’s on at the moment. Ended up trimming off the inner flange in the end.
  • 2 0
 @CustardCountry: I normally just snip a bit of it off so it doesn't foul the shifter. It's good to have it on the top when you flip the bike upside down.
  • 1 0
 @jaame: that’s what I did with my old bike which had X9 and a Reverb, but with the new NX and a different dropper I just couldn’t quite get it right.
Still liked the grips although I can’t remember it I went thick, thin, hard or soft. They’ve lasted well so assume hard compound

 @firesoft:

I’m 100% the same. Nothing is like riding the bike without gloves… nothing. I Only throw the gloves in my pack/pockets when it’s freezing out.
  • 1 1
 @robbiekane: I feel the same about riding girls. 16 kids later I'm starting to reconsider the wisdom of it.
  • 1 0
 @jaame: legend
  • 1 0
 @jaame: What don't you like about Renthal push ons specifically? I have not tried them yet but they are on my list maybe.
  • 1 0
 @oldstar: the medium compound and file grip are excellent. Wet or dry with or without gloves the grip is exactly the same. The damping is also excellent. The thing I don't like about the MTB ones is that they have a 15mm section at the end that does not have that file grip on it. Also, the rubber bevel around the end is too big... And the end plugs are wack.
Compared to renthal trials bike grips, which do not have these issues, it is disappointing. If I wasn't such a tight c*nt I would buy two pairs of the medium trials bike grips every time I needed to change grips and throw the throttle grips away.
As it is, Brendogs are pretty sensational anyway so that will do me.

 @melonhead1145: got the oneup grips after some time on ergons, Odis, and race face ones.. riddled with arithitis. one up has nailed compound and sizing.
  • 1 0
 @CustardCountry: get the flangeless ones. I've got thick, soft compound flangess and they are brilliant tbh, easily best grip I've used, and cheaper than ODI and other equivalents
  • 1 0
 @sethius: thanks, may try them when my brendogs wear out, they looked perfect for me but they were about £5 more than the brendogs and had very little reveiws in comparison

 What's next? Dotted? Extra thin? Glowing in the dark?

 Flavored.

 Ribbed for her pleasure

 @DHJohn: I don't know how I'm going to turn the grip ribbing inside out for my pleasure, but old habits die hard.
  • 5 0
 kashima coated so theres no resistance when you slide it in them handlebars

 @DHJohn: eeewww

 I own a few Funn stems and bits they are all pretty rad but this one will have to be left out due to my own wrist problems. I can't take raised outside lips they apply unwanted stress on my outside fingers that have been fractured over the years. Great colour selections there.

 I like the look of this pattern. I wish it came in 34/5mm.
  • 2 0
 Very nice ones ,Funn has good things with a very good price ,tried the burgtec Greg minnar ones ,both the normal and the new ones ,they are comfy but lacks on grip
  • 1 0
 Funn (Granite) make some of the best affordable mountainbike parts out there.
  • 1 0
 @OnTheRivet: Agree. I have a couple of sets of Funn pedals and I'm trying their dropper post. Interested to see how well it lasts and how the (cartridge) servicing turns out. Excellent price point for well made goods.

 I have comparatively large hands and prefer small diameter (and short) grips. Large diameter grips give me arm pump and grips any wider than my hands are just pointless (I cut about 1.5cm off all my grips). Rave Face Half Nelsons.
  • 1 0
 Not that the grips themselves look any special to me, but I really appreciate the name and racing connotations. Long live 4x!

 The press release states Ten Colours, the pic below shows all ten of them.........but the Thumbnail for the vid shows a colour not shown in the press release pic???

 Extra ribbed for extra grip

 There was me thinking that the rider with the holeshot was the first one into the first turn of a race??
  • 2 0
 Are they ebike compatible, looked everywhere and cannot find the answer.
  • 2 0
 Probably best to take your ebike to a qualified dealer for service
  • 6 6
 Diameter? A fairly key piece of information in a grip release article. Durometer approximation would be handy to know too.
  • 3 0
 It is 31mm
  • 3 0
 The diameter is listed in the article. But yea, durometer would be nice. They did say that its a "deep, plush compound."
  • 1 0
 Length of grip is also good info
  • 2 0
 @rallyimprezive: Shag carpet for your hands. Nice!
  • 2 0
 @noakeabean: way to small.
  • 1 2
 @Serpentras: 31mm is too small?
  • 4 0
 @noakeabean: That's what she said.
  • 2 0
 @noapathy: Nice one
  • 2 0
 @noakeabean: That's also...what she said.
  • 2 0
 @noakeabean: yes, must be some super small hands to fit the grips. 33/34 or bust.
  • 1 0
 How good these look almost make up for Porsche's new e-bike...
  • 1 1
 If Wayne or Garth rode, they would for sure use these grips.

“Ribbed for her pleasure”

 Zig zaggy OneUp grips
  • 1 0
 Yes and no. These grips actually look like you can hold onto when it’s wet and riding with no gloves. I struggled with the OneUps in the northwest without gloves. Few of my friends had the same issue. These look promising
