flag WAKIdesigns (Jan 17, 2020 at 7:24) (Below Threshold)
This is also an example of someone who is not trying to be careful. Thanks to that his focus and self confidence, that gives him relaxation and allows to steer. Something father figures on this site who know what to wear to be safe could learn from.

Tearing down a tree with my bare hands is not a fail in my book. Smile

The day has come to grab a beer, watch bikers crash then give a cheer.
When a rider try to hit that jump, and hits the ground with a massive CRUMP.
But a slam like that his steed does break and after that he HAS to ache.
Friends yell out loud "Fukin'ell! OK Mike?" "I'm all good mate, how's my bike?"
The news though really is quite sad, his steed is looking pretty bad.
Mike hit the jump to be all macho, now his wheel is a taco.
And so the story here must end, off he limps with a bike to mend.
But he'll be back to try again, to send the jump with out the pain.
Although knowing Mike again he'll bail, and will once again be on Friday Fails.

1:05 Turns out Rampage is harder than it looks - who knew?!
  • 11 1
 @Thor44

HAHAHA I read the comments before I watched. Total tourists getting a wake up call. Props to them for trying, though. Did they have German accents? The German Tourist is unstoppable.
  • 14 0
Man, I thought he was doing a pretty good job the first two drops. Then he decides to drift right for some reason. I thought his bike crashing below was one of the more humorous scenes of the video.
  • 3 0
So that's why the trail is called King Kong.

Who knew?
  • 2 0
 That's why I don't ride ridges
  • 3 0
 Kong is no joke!
  • 6 0
 That 150ft bike fling finish!
  • 5 0
@endlessblockades: "The German Tourist is unstoppable."

Except when they head East.

Talking of which, some great fun fails from our Polish friends whilst the Aussies - ah ye mate, tak'n it easy maaate.

@endlessblockades: Whatever he says, it's not German Frown

Can we start getting a count of repeat features that make it to Friday Fails? That last jump on HLC line at Duthie Hill has got to be a top contender.
  • 4 1
 He absolutely exploded on landing.
  • 4 0
I was just thinking that I would like to tally this somewhere. Duthie must be the most frequent Friday Fails location.
  • 5 0
it seems like duthie is in here every other week
  • 2 0
As frequently as the medics go to duthie? @rpinney206:
  • 2 0
Would love to see a little edit of repeated failures on a popular feature. Is everyone crashing in the same way, anyone get points for creativity, most hang time, least... this might be fun to explore.
  • 22 1
the biggest friday fail comes from @tomwalker92 on instagram... lucky boy...he felt from the big train gap
  • 19 0
Damn dude Frown these are kinda funny, that was just scary and hard to watch.
  • 10 0
That's a sickening crash. So gnarly.
  • 17 0
Jesus f*ck... that is nightmare fuel! Actually think I have nightmares that look exactly like that... from the miss to the noises he makes... man, wish i didn't see that..

  • 6 0
@yoimaninja: yep so true... really not funny, hard to watch.
  • 11 0
@islandforlife: Sooooo, you post the link. lol
  • 3 0
My son showed me that this morning. He's pretty young and immune to fear... but he was truly frightened and shaken up by that clip.
  • 7 0
@islandforlife: Thanks for sharing, i almost puked .
  • 8 0
Saw that last night, had some messed up dreams.. Make's all the friday fails look tame. Guy's a beast making it out alive and walking again
  • 7 0
@mtbikeaddict: ha, yep... most people, like me... would read the comments, not want to see it, but still find themselves searching and watching anyway... just made it easier for them.
  • 1 0
 @islandforlife:
I wish I could just unwatch that too... Holy f*ck I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight.
  • 2 0
After everyone's comments, I read his post about his injuries first before watching the video and had my hand on the mouse. So glad I did because I closed it as soon as he left the bridge. I don't want to hear what came next or see him hit. That is just horrible.
  • 2 0
@blowmyfuse: You really don't. The sound he makes made my gut wrench
  • 3 0
@irahudgin: I watched it with no sound first and it was bad, the sound made it a lot worse. Not watching it ever again.
  • 2 0
oh my god!!!! That was a nightmare....
  • 1 0
Just watched it. I don't know where to begin, no downward roll into it so you have to pedal like chris froome to get enough speed to clear it. The gap looks huge and a too similar a level to the take off? Is there any footage of pros doing this from another angle? How he took the decision to launch off that I don't know, that's a brutal a watch.
  • 3 0
 @r-macattack: Search Pemberton Train Gap.
  • 1 0
 @islandforlife: that's messed up man
  • 2 0
islandforlife: "Wish I didn't see that... I should link it for everyone else..."
  • 1 0
...wow. Wow. Insane. Looks like he got a bit offline and swiped a tree before takeoff? That is the most brutal crash I’ve ever seen—makes Rogatkin at Rampage seem normal. Ugh.
  • 2 1
How do you miss something that big by that much. It wasn't even close. I'm not sure I'll ever get that video out of my head.
  • 1 0
@r-macattack: it’s a pretty famous gap in Pemberton, just google pemberton train gap
  • 1 0
@r-macattack: He was pedalling hard then slipped a pedal, he tried to pull up but couldn't stop in time.
  • 7 0
For anyone wondering about Tom's crash.

I've been to the gap before, and walked away from it. I've kicked myself every day for doing so, until seeing Tom's crash yesterday. I've now finally made peace with my decision, as that could've so easily been me. It's gnarly as f*ck and no footage will ever do it justice.

Just before the ramp there is an oddly placed flat rock slab. You can barely make it out in any footage, so I didn't even know it was there until I arrived. You need to ride over the slab to maintain a straight approach. Tom, for reason unknown, decided to go around the rock, causing him to approach the ramp off angle, panic brake... and you know the rest.... If you slow his footage down you can see all of this happen.

When I went in April 2019, it had rained all night causing the run-in to be pretty slippy, especially the little slab (which was covered in wet moss at the time) and the ramp itself. It was my worst nightmare to come in hot, slip the back tyre on the slab and then be catapulted off the ramp to my certain death. Tom's gopro footage is exactly what I envisioned whilst I was stood there. So I walked away. I've not written it off, I'd love to go back one day with someone who's hit it before.

On purpose or not, I believe Tom's act of going around that little slab decided his fate for him that day.
  • 2 0
 @JamesGTi: thx for explaining!
A friend of mine did the gap last year. but with the help from a local, who was ridden in front of him.
  • 2 0
@JamesGTi: Man unless you can look at a gap like that and think yeah that's no big deal (see: Remy/Joann) don't even try it. The consequences are just way too high and you have absolutely nothing to gain. Realistically after this was constructed and attempted it probably should have been taken down. Otherwise sooner or later someone is going to try it who shouldn't.
  • 2 0
@JamesGTi: I've been trying not to re-watch the insta video but you're totally right. Here's a still from Remy's diesel wolf/gap trail preview. You can see the rock.
www.pinkbike.com/photo/18186965

It actually looks like Tom Walker was going fast enough until he tried to go left of that rock. If you stop his video he actually almost misses the takeoff ramp entirely. Unfortunately you don't get any do-overs on this one.
  • 3 0
Shit Imagine if they tried to jump a train
  • 1 0
@friendlyfoe: I dunno man, it's been an ambition of mine for years now to get that famous photo of me gapping the train tracks! Would definitely prove a lot of people wrong I know that for sure. I do hope so one day! But yes, I was wise to walk away that day.

I know it did get taken down at one point, a few years back, apparently it was CP Rail that ordered it themselves, but that's just conjecture.

And yeah that's the rock. Such a little detail that you'd never pick up on if you weren't there.
  • 4 0
@JamesGTi: Things as high consequence as this shouldn't be done for ego, but for one's self. If you think there is something to be gained because 'you would prove others wrong', you should give your head a shake and rethink what's truely important.
  • 2 0
@gnarnaimo: understood man. See your point.
  • 1 0
 @dh-corn: correct dude
  • 15 0
1:01 walking away from losing that line is a win not a fail.
  • 6 0
and good camera control to perfectly frame the bike cartwheeling down the hill afterwards.
  • 12 0
I know the title said this friday fail was sponsored by ODI, but after watching it I am pretty sure it was sponsored by the little bunny by your shocks rebound knob!
  • 2 0
For these guys it's the MTB Energizer Bunny

 stop using portrait FFS
  • 15 0
People who record in portrait mode should have a tech come to their house and mount their TV in 9:16 on their wall.
  • 2 0
@ChazzMichaelMichaels: I thought you were going to say they should be flogged.
  • 12 0
At 1:05....Some say his bike is still falling to this day

 You alrite Dave?

  • 1 0
 @blowmyfuse: u 3 ain’t everyone lol
  • 5 0
i love how the natural reaction to someone crashing is to ask if they're alright .02 seconds after they crash. i guarantee they don't know if they're alright or not yet.
  • 5 0
//give this week to that one dude who crashed and watch his bike carom off the canyon side out at least 100 yards or more.
Amazing bike toss.
  • 5 0
Relatively mild one this episode.. couple of heavy hitters but mostly chilled.
  • 2 0
Apart from the kid at 1:40.. that was a SLAM
  • 5 0
Why do I still watch this even though I'm laid up with a broken clavicle???
  • 6 0
That was one of the scarier King Kong crashes I’ve seen
  • 1 0
Was that Kong or Lunch Line?
  • 16 0
@Hogfly: Kong for him - Lunch line for the bike. That thing got eaten.
  • 4 0
If you're strong enough to rip a tree out with your bare hands it'd be a damn crime to wear sleeves. That guy wins FF for the week.
  • 5 0
3:24 is a win in my book, for overshooting by that much and looking pretty good doing it!
  • 5 0
Came here to say the same thing. My man was not coming up short and he stuck to the plan. Full marks.
  • 6 1
Once again ....soooo many DONKEYS riding stuff beyond their skill level!! Smile
  • 4 0
3:17 that drop was way bigger than I initially thought. Props to him at least just for hitting it.
  • 3 0
The most concerning thing about these is that a campy/shimano 4 arm crank comes off of the bike that explodes in the intro animation. COME ON PINKBIKE.COM NO ROAD CRASHES?
  • 2 0
This week's fails were great! My notes:

-Multiple angles is awesome!!!!
-Who still films vertical videos!?
-Camera quality is getting a lot better
-You guys are all still crazy as hell!!!!!!
  • 2 0
That wreck at 3:30 is lucky. There are some spots on that trail with some crazy exposure. I admittedly walked several sections of that trail due to fear of falling over cliffs into the river below.
  • 1 3
That move on Jackson's is really straightforward. This was a grade A "gaper goes to Moab" wreck.
  • 4 0
@peleton7: Thanks! Though I don't normally feel like a gaper, I suppose I have that coming.

However, the move straight down the middle is pretty straight forward. A bit of a huck into chunk, but it's doable. I thought that the left line looked a little more sexy. There is a bit of a transition there that'll smooth that drop right out. It's narrow, and it's doable. But I just blew it.
  • 3 0
Part of what made me feel comfortable giving this section a go was that it was far less exposed than other sections. I was concerned when my bike continued to bounce about 30 feet below the wreck!
  • 1 0
I'd love to see the time stamp of that crash on the big step up below the zore lift!
Looks so much like the one I saw from the lift late in August.... it stuck in my mind and I swear the rider was wearing the same lid/shirt & had the rider do the same walk off to the side.
  • 4 0
At 2:14, that’s a prosthetic Yeti triangle in the wild!
  • 2 0
Lol that failed jump at 2:53. Friend jumps, friend fails, filmer still gives a "Nice". I guess that compliment was because the rider saved the landing with crashing.

Love how Joey with the color matched break hoses is the friend who crashes. Seems accurate.
  • 1 0

  • 3 0
 Glad Dave is alright
  • 2 0
2:51 not a fail, more like an attempt!
  • 2 0
I wonder if that guy has found his bike yet...
  • 2 0
The big jump in Morzine must claim so many
  • 2 0
The widow maker is a cruel mistress. Saw a few heavy diggers when I was there last year.
  • 2 0
@Jamesgoulding: Friend of mine was a lifty at the top of that lift, she said in busy periods it was one or two choppers a day taking people away.
  • 4 0
Why do parks build massive booters right under the lift? Seems like the universe is setting you up for failure at that point.
  • 1 0
@stoo61: yeah man I was there a 2 weeks and saw a fair few people getting choppered out from super M and at les gets. Doesnt fill you with confidence in the way up haha.
  • 1 0
@Jamesgoulding: haha sounds about right. I reckon lots of lads go out for a week, they get to the last day and think they have to hit it. I lived there 2.5 years and never hit it, not my jam and I know it.
  • 1 0
@stoo61: oh yeah deffo!! You have to hit it fast aswel to clear. I like the big stuff there, the little step down at the bigginging of the red also claimed a few people while I was there. I’m sure it’s one of those ‘you gotta hit it Cus we are here’ things
  • 1 0
Maybe all these riders put one of those heavy-ass I9 matchstick things in their front wheel and it threw their balance off??
  • 2 0
Waiting for some Grim Donut fails to show up, maybe next Friday?
  • 1 0
Has anyone ever actually landed and rode away from a jump? Watching these every week, I'm starting to wonder.
  • 1 0
Hey everyone! It's time to open up that rebound and stay real stiff on the lip... what time is it?!?!?!
  • 2 0

  • 1 0
This is some of the best camera work in a while.

one of those failing portrait-oriented clips is so skinny I swear they've got it letter-boxed!
  • 1 0
I should be working right now, but I saw that thumbnail and here I am.
  • 1 0
Homie is lucky he did up where his bike did 1:05
  • 3 0
 **DId NOT end up where
  • 1 0
Is that a new trail in Moab?
  • 4 0
 Jackson I believe
  • 3 0
Just Jackson. Probably one of my new favorites in Moab, despite going over the bars hard here!
