 Flibber flabbers.

Danny hittin' the 4:20 like a chaaaaamp
  • 13 4
That’s some damn close racing considering the length of the track and the stuff that’s on it.
  • 3 0
 When in Canada......
  • 41 2
 Yoooooooo Tahnee!
  • 14 7
And Vali! As if it needs saying, but over half a minute up?! Literally insane! The girl is going to be a total superstar!!!!!
  • 3 0
At this point I think it would be shocking of Vali wasn't at least 30 seconds up.
  • 6 1
 Danny Hart 4:20 dude!
  • 43 8
@cunning-linguist: Hold your horses she's still 28 seconds or so off Thanees time. I guess your assuming she's suddenly going to get 30 seconds faster in the next couple of years, or just completely ignoring the possibility that it's the total lack of competition in her class that's making her stand out, to the point where womens DH might actually have a serious problem in the near future. Let's wait and see...
  • 10 3
@deadmeat25: Still seventh time in Elite Women, ahead of the current rainbow jersey... The question within the Elites right now it should be not how fast could Vali go, but how many Vali are going to pop up from modern park riding in the next future ;-)
  • 38 2
@deadmeat25: she also doesn't train or ride bikes full time like tahnee, rachel, etc and she has limited experience on most of the courses and no experience on several. she's also said she doesn't really know anything about suspension and bike setup - she's literally figuring everything out on the fly as she's racing WC's for the first time. i think she deserves all the credit she's getting.
  • 9 3
@deadmeat25: knocking 25 seconds off her times will be the easy part with a bit of practise under her belt, it's those last 5 seconds to the top step that make the difference though and require years of experience, training and a dash of luck on the day
  • 2 1
@deadmeat25: I think she has pulled times way up there top 5 with the elites, and she is not pushing/risking it like she can because no need to.. may be Im wrong...
  • 3 4
@deadmeat25: have you only got a half full glass by any chance? She’s got 10 years worth of full time training to be in Hannah’s position for example. Also, if the girls her age don’t step up and she walks away with every title, so what? She’s the fastest down the hill, makes her he winner! She deserves the praise.
  • 5 2
@cunning-linguist: Not at all, just think you and a lot of other people are getting way ahead of themselves.
I wish her all the best and also sincerely wish i was wrong about the lack of depth in the women's field...
  • 5 0
As a 16 year old, racing part time (bear in mind she is still in the equivalent of high school and can't legally drive a car yet), she is showing tremendous promise for the future of women's DH racing.
  • 3 0
@literally: I dont know if that sarcasm or to take you literally...
  • 1 0
Val is cleaning up Junior Women's. Her time today places her 8th in Women's. She has much to learn in the next few years. Hopefully she can make Women's field more competitive.

The UCI is horrible.

Anyone know what happened Greenland? DNF on results, hope he's ok to race tmro. As his fantasy team manager I'm surprised, and disappointed, that he hasn't been in touch to let me know yet..
  • 3 0
Yeah I saw him pull to the side of the track just before the big drop near the bottom. Not sure why, both he and his bike looked fine.
  • 8 0
@DavesNachos: cheers dude. If you see him tomorrow tell him there's no need to call me. We don't care about the results, we just want him to have fun out there. And get results
  • 1 0
@DMCM: I wont stop his race run but if I see him in the pits I'll let him know
  • 2 0
He had a crash earlier on in practice and hurt his foot so he said he was taking it easy in quails... He'll be charging again tomorrow!
  • 9 0
Myriam fresh off a back injury and straight into a quali 3rd!!! Way to go POMPON!!!!
  • 7 2
 Only 16 seconds off pace!
  • 3 0
@mollow: thats called tactics.... she just want to make sure the others dont know how fast she will be on race day! Wink hahaha!
  • 3 0
And farina back into 5th, second race back after a broken back!
  • 10 4
I step away from the mountain bike world for 2 years, and today I logged into pinkbike for the first time since I left. Who in the deuce are half of these riders?! I feel sooo lost. Also, my dashboard section has 9,874 notifications. That's gonna take awhile... Also, when I left, Tahnee Seagrave was trailing Rachel. Times have changed Smile Except for Danny boy. He's still being boss.

 Shame. Shame. Shame.

Your comment got me wondering: have Gwin and Pierron actually faced off against one another this year being completely healthy?
  • 2 0
 @PHeller: Croatia?
  • 5 0
@CrowSD: and even then, Pierron got a flat tyre in Croatia while on an absolute heater (still finished not far from top 10 from memory). His ascension to being a consistent threat every week has been quite incredible to watch, kind of like when everything just clicked together for Ratboy in 2014. Funnily enough, Ratboy was also the last person to win the overall other than Gwin - kind of crazy to think about.
  • 3 0
@brownies: my bad.... totally forgot about Pierron flatting.

Atleast I had the "healthy" part correct... haha
  • 8 0
Congrats to Tahnee she's on fire !!
  • 8 0
C’mon Danny, time for another win!
  • 9 2
31 seconds by Holl. Might as well just give her the win.
  • 3 1
How old is she again? Does she move to elite next year or is she in junior for 1 more to develop even more? She is so close to top 5 in women's elite already.
  • 13 5
Wow she would have finished 78th in the mens class.
  • 3 1
 @onemind123: she’s only 16 I think
  • 5 2
She is 17 ...and would have had top 10 results in the elite in every event this year! I wonder where she would be in the overal now.
  • 3 1
Apparently she has also lent her second bike to Monika Hrastnik who broke her frame and fork :o
  • 1 0
@RichardJBos: this can’t be correct. They did not add the qualifying points to her total. With a 6th, 4th, 7th, 10th, and 7th, there is no way she would be 8th overall, unless she was always outside the top 20 during qualifying, which she wasn’t. Also, the 9 points for a 6th should be 95. They did count those correct though.
  • 1 0
@RichardJBos: actually, only the top 10 get points for qualifying. But checking her times she came 9th, 5th, 5th, 1st*, and 7th for qualifying. I assume in Val di Sole she had dry conditions, as she was 20sec faster than the elite women, so excluding that, she has 64 points more, making it 499, and putting her into 6th overall. Very impressive.
  • 5 0
@Werratte: She's only 16... birthday is December 11, 2001. Actual age vs. racing age. Let her finish "high school" and then she can put in a full, year-round training schedule like the other Elite women. When that happens, I'm sure she will live up to her potential. Right now, she is only beginning to tap into her talent and skill.
  • 4 0
Ok. Vali is only 16. Daprela is also ony 16 and fucking freaking fast for a 16 year old boy
  • 3 0
Hart, Bruni, Pierron, Shaw...... 1,2,3, and 4 Minnaar goes 10th after a long break from WC DH
  • 4 0
please keep it wet... GO Danny!!!
  • 2 0
first time i saw armaury pierron ride live. the dude is fast he scrube the big tarzan rock. he was the fastest in this sextion but you know msa is a long long track
  • 2 1
I'm truly gutted for Canada right now. The 2 newly crowned National Champs will not be racing on home soil tomorrow. C'mon Finn!!!
  • 3 0
Shit happens in downhill racing. theres also still Mark, Kirk Henry and Forest! Yay Canadian men. Killin it!!
  • 10 11
How much does weighing another 40lbs have to do with all of this? The men have to accelerate faster at every point on the track with that mass pointing downhill, just by being bigger. Just trying to understand the physics vs strength piece between the classes. I see it when riding with the groms on our development team. With the same rolling speed, bigger wheels and more weight I roll 2x as far as they do after we stop pedaling. How much do those same physics play into the time differences between the classes here? Tough to answer, but has me thinking over here... Just find it hard to believe that junior men are 20% faster overall due purely to skill.
  • 33 2
 What?
  • 16 3
Did someone forget their meds today?
  • 14 0
how much does danny hart weigh?
  • 4 1
Weight and strength play some role but I think more of the difference comes from the lack of women in DH. There are just not that many females in Downhill. There's even fewer in Slopestyle.
  • 4 0
 @rippinrob: or Troy ....
  • 3 1
@tom666: yah if there were more female riders we would start to see faster times and more competitive races, remember to get your lady’s and daughters in mtb!
  • 2 1
@rippinrob: I'd say much more than meets the eyes as we've all heard he might be having problems sitting down with balls that big
  • 4 2
Quick reminder for those who have forgotten their physics, those that weigh more (or more importantly have more mass) do not accelerate faster. Gravitational acceleration is independent of mass, and therefore heavier riders do NOT accelerate faster. So... Yeah, that's all pretty much wrong.
  • 5 0
I should amend that yes, heavier riders will have more kinetic energy and therefore hold greater momentum, but will not accelerate any faster than a lighter rider.
  • 3 0
@ratedgg13: Ah, so a heavier rider on big wheels could be a distinct advantage. They might not accelerate as fast, but then again they might also push more watts. How much of DH is all out sprinting? Very little. Far more is in the ability to maintain one's momentum.
  • 1 0
@ratedgg13: they have more potential energy as well
  • 2 1
@ratedgg13: not in the presence of air resistance. A heavier rider on a slope will accelerate faster. Your theory is correct for a free fall with no air resistance
  • 2 0
@Hambo24: Sure but the air resistance between riders (as opposed to the famous elephant vs feather) will be pretty small, as will their relative masses.
  • 2 0
@ratedgg13: there ya go. It’s that “acted upon by an outside force” thing. Force equals mass times acceleration. So a heavier rider is less “acted upon” by the outside stalling forces of the track due to their larger mass.
  • 2 0
Maybe if we give the little guys skinsuits and get the heavy boys to carry an umbrella that will even it out?
  • 1 0
@PHeller: Exactly what i am trying to get at, acceleration was wrong but momentum certainly plays a factor. The other factor may just be the massive balls required to ride this fast without hitting the brakes in every corner.... and as metioned above just the sheer number of riders in each class. Kinda like soccer/football in the US analogy.
  • 3 0
 @werratte; Vali is only 16!!
  • 2 0
is the live timing link meant to be for the men? If so, its not working

Danny "freaking" Hart boys!!!! Oh yes, I hope he crushes out there.
  • 3 1
"I hope he crashes..." ::grabs pitchfork, puts on glasses::

"I hope he crushes out there." Oh yah, GO DANNY!
  • 2 1
No offense to Hart, but he almost always pushes really hard in Qualifying, and the problem is whether or not others are doing the same.
  • 1 0
What happened to Miranda Millar? 3rd/4th splits in her seeding run don't look consistent...
