Video: The All New LEGO Mountain Bike

Dec 7, 2018
by Devon Brown

The original LEGO bicycle was released in 1985 and has been a staple in regards to outdoor recreation in the LEGO universe since. However, with mountain biking popularity on the rise, demand was high for a new bike design. The all new LEGO mountain bike delivers in all aspects, and will be the perfect new bike for anyone looking to hit the trails in the LEGO universe.

Humor aside, and from a real-world perspective, I think it's absolutely brilliant that the largest toy manufacturer in the world has come out with a mountain bike specific toy part to include in sets.
THE SPECS:
• Stationary Pedals
• Flexzone Technology Suspension Fork
• 2 cm Wide Bars
• Aggressive Mid-Fat Tires
• Locked Handlebar Technology
• 55 Degree Head Tube Angle
• Vertical Dropouts
• Integrated Rear Mud Fender

Yes, it's just a toy, but It's also a definite sign that mountain biking is reaching the masses and becoming more and more recognized around the globe. I for one am stoked about more people being introduced to mountain biking!

Looking fresh with the lime green color scheme.

 What, no bottle cage?

 Unrideable garbage.
  • 27 0
Yeah, but look at the size of the wheels in relation to the rider's legs. Those have to be at least 36.5+ wheels

No brakes or drivetrain . . . . 30+ years in the making, and they forgot brakes. . . .
  • 14 0
I can't believe they developed this bike without consulting us first. Instead of long reach with room for a bottle, they increased stem length. The rider is lucky to not have crashed. He could have become disassembled. I still must have some body parts lying somewhere. It ain't pretty...

@patrickbatemanworldtour89: poor guy. His legs don’t even reach the pedals. Or maybe I should say poor guys...
  • 1 0
@AutumnMedia: far as I can tell it has a 0 speed drivetrain, so they could probs throw on any hub width with no chainline to worry about
  • 1 0
pffft.. not even thru axles - just QR axle-open end dropouts

@pikebait2013: You'd think that guys at Lego would be better at building a case.
  • 2 0
@metaam: might force the folks at Trek to Lego their egos, before they get disassembled brick by brick

When can we expect the Pinkbike Field Test for this bike?
  • 33 0
I bet they'll be surprised with how light it is.
  • 15 0
I bet that it will climb surprisingly well for what it is
  • 1 0
@kookseverywhere: duuuuuuuuuuuuh, look at the head tube angle, and kinematics of rear suspension. It will feel lively and responsive on climbs, also mid fat tyre add extra grip and cushion.
  • 6 0
The test will be done at interbike 2020 in Reno
  • 38 1
Screw clipless vs. flats. Stationary pedals are where it's at.

How are we expected to teach the kids to ride good... if they can't even fit on the bike?

 Hire a male model @underhawk:

Those tires look a little too squared off. Might want to try a different rim width.

I measured the offset in MS Paint and it looks like it's 2mm. thing it gonna be so flip-flop steering. I was out at the high stand-over though.
  • 15 0
 How short are you?
  • 1 0
Yeah, but what's the reach on that thing?

Finally, a top spec new bike I can afford.

I would immediately put on a shorter stem, if I were a dentist and could afford one of these.

Something to swear at when i step on one on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
  • 1 1
I am holding out for boost spacing and a lefty fork. The funny thing is that seems like LEGO understands the bike price model I think $6,800 is a lot for a bike and a 6 year old thinks $80 dollars for 32 LEGO blocks is just as absurd! ????
  • 1 0
Everyone talking about the geometry/spec, but is no-one going to comment on the rider's awful front-heavy stance? Where's his weight distribution? smh
  • 3 0
This is my favourite thing of all time ever

It’s a shame you have to get all the other stuff!

I bet these will withstand much more abuse than their more expensive plastic counterparts

These chainstays... should climb like a rocket! I hope they offer this one in this PB calendar campaign.

Just... just amazing how they've saved on unsprung mass. It's like there's nothing there at all. What a world we live in...

Damn new Lego standards, now I can no longer use low-cost MegaBlock alternatives as replacement parts. That bike is a money pit.
