CONTOUR cameras and Troy Brosnan bring you a course preview for the Leogang, Austria IXS Cup track. This is the same track that will be used in September for World Championships.
Current conditions are sunny, warm and fast with a few boggy rutted sections. Very high speed overall. Should make for a fun weekend of racing!
Ive rewrote this post a few times but its more of a personal opinion i dont profess to being a DH racer (anymore) or a pro rider, but.
I feel the WC DH tracks are becoming sterile groomed big boy BMX tracks with more and more gaps and jumps (the bits they feature on the footage most for whips and crowd pleasers) than real "downhill".
My view is that the course should be just a wide taped line across the natural mountain and the riders pick the lines, no rock moving tree trimming health and safety conscious course just natural DOWNHILL!
Im sure its a fine line to balance as they want to attract TV and more money to the sport but at what cost to the sport, im just going on the bad old days of DH on a hardtail with 3" travel Judy's back in the 90's where the course was hardly marked and you just hung on and rattled down!
HTNDave i'm with you on that old school dh was real and there where all kinds of hits for whips and as for forest damage thats b.s. i went back to some track's year after year after a grip of rider went on course ,the land took it back ,like it was not even there, bike's are low on the scale of land damage, but that just my year's of the eye on land, since 1976,>,Mount Snow Vermont,Mount saint ant, snow show, park city, tahoe, big bear, washington, mammoth, groom is for bmx,to easy.
"land damage" is sooo much bullshit it's not even an argument. Go watch an area were they have cut down the trees and you see what I mean. There are MASSIVE tracks after the machines and the land won't be the same again.
And as far as tracks go I'm with you, I don't like the new kind of tracks that are flat out open space with hardpacked ground and big jumps. I like the technical trails where it's hard to not make mistakes and you have to think and try things to make it work.
You need to ride these tracks to appreciate how difficult they are, im lucky enough to have ridded val die sole, leogang and fort william and they are not easy at all. I was to scared to ride champery. The fast section of this track is actually a freeride jump track that just links the top and bottom half.
by7 your a kid i'm not saying those tracks aree suck they just aree not dh where you need to think the the line are you your out of line and no time, groomey's is you,the bike not need rider to win.
Just from this video, i honestly cant see muhc benefit in running a heavy DH bike for this track, there are maybe 1 or 2 bits wehre it might be useful but I reckon a shorter travel, slack and light freeride bike might be a better option. I'mm probably wrong but it looks (and sounds) it from this video
I have said this before and i will say it again. I rated Troy years ago and said world champ and i will say it again watch out he will be world champ very very soon wicked little rider
Gonna be awesome I reckon Troy will have a Podium finish in his first year racing elite. Could be first or third maybe second don't know. But top 3 for sure. Because imagine if he didn't have that slow rider in front of him he could've done it in like half the time (exageration). But I would like to see his thoughts on people that don't move for faster riders.
I wonder how Troy's gonna do this year, I think it's his first year racing world cup? Not sure. One thing is for sure though, that course looked sweet! I would go to world cups just to race the awesome courses!
yeah haha I know he was doing the Pro division in the Australian circuit, so I'm assuming here's going to show up all the pros in the world cup this year. this iXS track is prime too
This track looks sweet with all the flowing jumps. Bet money someone scorpions off one of the drops into the first steep woods section! Pumped for the action!
1. That kid is fast! The speed in the wood sections is sick!!!
2. The track looks too much like a bikepark trail in my opinion. Should have more technical wood sections in my humble opinion.
tornateo that made me laugh, @mtm massive, heres a contour camera, contour.com/products/contour-plus . as you can see it would be rather uncomfortable as a chesty.
The question running through my mind the whole time was "Other than those jumps, how does he make it look like he's just running on plain downhill pavement? He's so fast!"
This dude is much faster than the dudes that did the Ontario course preview.. Also, the pink construction paint throughout the rock gardens is a pretty damn cool thing to do.
Brosnan: ''ahem''
English: ''Get out the way!''
no hander????

Get rid of the gravel and camel humps go natural!
Just my thoughts.

To me this is a real downhill track that would be fun to race on:
