VHS Announces V-3 Chainstay Tape

PRESS RELEASE: Velocity Hucking Systems

Wider, Softer, Stronger! Buzzwords aside, we are excited to introduce the third iteration of VHS, V-3. We've put in significant effort into refining multiple aspects, including designs, materials, adhesives, shapes, and even our iconic packaging – resulting in a comprehensive redesign from the ground up.

Similar to version 2.0, this release also marks a transition to a new manufacturer. Fortunately, they have been instrumental in collaborating with us to deliver a product we proudly endorse. We understand that achieving the perfect chain silencer is a challenge, especially when operating from a makeshift office in a bedroom – and no, that's not a joke.

Nevertheless, we've given it our best shot. Notably, we've increased the base size from 70mm to 140mm, allowing you to wrap your entire chain stay. This enhancement eliminates any exposed edges that might catch on your shoes. When combined with the array of other improvements we've made, we confidently assert that this is the quietest and most durable aftermarket tape available.

A.I Video

Different, right? We hope you find the concept intriguing. It's an exciting time in the tech space, and who knows, perhaps one day you'll be able to rely on an A.I to create everything you need for launching your own product – now that's a thought that might send shivers down your spine!

Our decision to delve into this space stemmed from a desire to explore its possibilities. After a few hours of playful experimentation online, the idea was born to create what you've just witnessed. Apart from the intro, which is a blend of stock video and some purchased sounds, the entirety is generated by A.I – yes, that includes the narrator. It's worth noting that, despite the marvels of AI, there are still limitations, as evidenced by some of the more unconventional bike designs. Linkage fork making a comeback? Apologies for not presenting another live-action comedy for your entertainment, but be on the lookout for April 1st!

maybe a V-4 will silence a creaking bottom bracket

I say chain you say slap!!!!!!! Chain!!!!! ......crickets...... Chain!!!!!! .....tumbleweed....... I can't hear you!!!!!!!!!!

 @tubby1536: Meh. Betamax is better
  • 1 0
@VHS Unbelievable, just ordered some V2 on Friday as I couldn't find something that would go around the whole chain stay and it looked like the best of my options...
  • 1 0
@f00bar: only frame manufacturers Quality will fix that
  • 1 0
 @f00bar: what about my knees?
  • 2 2
I'd like to point out to the rest of my fellow mtbers, I've left this comment on here and have emailed them directly and have had no response whatsoever from them after several days... Evidently once the product is sold they have little interest in following up with support.

@bunjiman82: Hey, Ill reply to you today. I'm a one-man company will a full time job outside of VHS.
  • 2 0
@VHS: Humbled... I came back on here to publicly apologize, it never would have occurred to me that such a polished product with all it's marketing could be the brain child and effort of one man being run alongside a full time job, I was impatient and am genuinely sorry for having taken that out in the comments section.

Even when faced with my rudeness though, you still provided me with polite and friendly customer service and I really appreciate that, thank you and please accept my apology.

I struggled to understand what they are trying to sell. There was one photo of moulded chain protection but its not tape. Maybe less AI animation and window dressing and more about the USP / how its tape / what frames it fits too. Is it stretchy rubber that fits to any chain stay? Are there different sizes? How do you get it on and off?
If its tape, why can’t I see seams?
  • 7 0
It's really wide tape, so it wraps the whole stay. You could put the seam underneath, or on the inside....
  • 3 0
It's tape - but this version is wide enough that it can wrap around the chainstay, meaning the seam sits at the back where your heel won't catch it. V2 suffered from this a lot, needed a couple of cable ties and a bit of tape to keep it in place on my bikes. Minor gripe aside, it's a great product, I did two bikes with one pack, and they are quiet as
  • 38 4
It’s tape, point taken though, We just like to try provide content without shoving “product placement” down consumers throats but maybe we show more in future, just trying to do something different with this one. ❤️

@VHS: never go full curious creatures.
  • 7 1
@VHS: don’t get me wrong, its a cool video, and I like the querky angle, eg like what Transition does. But the ad/post left me not knowing why I needed to buy ur product.

Btw now I know, it looks good!

@VHS: thank you and i like your approach…

@rich-2000: you could say that about literally anything…sounds like you’re just here to flap your gums in the wind
  • 13 3
@pargolf8: no need to insult folks with opinions you do not approve of. I was pretty lost reading this stuff too. This looked more like an ad for AI.

"We just like to try provide content without shoving “product placement” down consumers throats".

But adverts are exactly where people need product placement!

@VHS: My wife is an artist, I really enjoyed the video and can appreciate the work that went into creating it
  • 2 1
@VHS: Cool story, but this isn't "Product placement." It's literally your own work.

@pargolf8: no, I was providing constructive feedback. You on the other hand are ‘just flapping your gums off’ my dear fellow lol

 !Free USA shipping!

Most worldwide shipping is available with more coming in the next week.
All international shipping (outside the US) is currently DDU but if do not want to be stung with any surprise duties/taxes
check back next when our DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is set up!
Canada, you are not forgotten! shipping to you guys when worldwide DDP is implemented.

Thanks again!
  • 5 0
But Canada is not even available as a country to ship to?
  • 1 0
Ah - will check back later, thanks!
  • 2 0
Thank you for explaining what DDP is. Had I googled that at work, it would have probably set off a million alarms with the IT department.
  • 24 3
ngl the AI generated stuff in the launch vid kinda getting corny, but the tape is probably nice
  • 22 2
 Ugly AI generated art again?
  • 13 0
These guys are not making much noise in the industry!
  • 12 3
Cool product, but maybe include a clear photo of it in the launch materials? Or a short live-action video demonstrating how it works? Seems like the kind of thing where a 45 second video of the actual product being installed and then used is all that's really needed.

And ditch the AI stuff. I get that it's fun to mess with those tools, but the end product is significantly worse than the kind of video a human would make, and you're (1) stealing from the artists whose work was used without permission to train the model and (2) using a lot of energy for the compute needed to generate all of it.
  • 2 1
We didn’t realise that our 4th launch video required that much added information for very similar information. Appreciate the feedback though.
We just figure, it’s tape, details are added.

I won’t tuck into the A.I opinion with this, but as a one man company I can say I handn’t the energy for a 4th “here’s some tape” live action video.

Head over to our YouTube if you want to look at the work this far though and hopefully you enjoy the future content.
  • 1 0
@VHS: I mean, you don't NEED any added information at all. At least on this site, I'm guessing that enough people know VHS that you probably could just have posted "We have a new version of VHS, it's better now, check it out here: [link]."

I was just saying, if you're going to go to the trouble of doing a video for the launch, my opinion is that keeping it short, sweet, and real is probably the most effective approach. That said, while I do work in marketing, it's in a totally different industry so I may be totally wrong about what'll work for bikes in this market. I saw your 2.0 launch video and that was amazing, but I suspect that something *much* shorter and simpler than that would work, too.

As for the AI stuff, I get that it's hard running a one-person company. Just saying that, at least for me, it kinda has the opposite of the intended outcome, as it makes me less likely to buy the product. I'm sure plenty of people don't care or love it too, and you can't please everyone, just sharing my personal opinion on the subject.
  • 1 2
@VHS: For what it's worth, your use of AI has sworn me off your product indefinitely. Cheers.
  • 7 0
Instant buy. Previous version works great, looks like a solid upgrade, happy to support a small independent company.
  • 4 0
 Thankyou!!!
  • 8 2
Is this cheaper than an old innertube wrapped around the chainstay?
  • 41 0
 No
  • 11 0
I could sell you some old inner tubes for more than this, if you'd like?
  • 5 2
thing is, the inner tube won't really silence the chain slap
  • 8 0
@f00bar: that’s where inner tube v2.3 comes in - twice the inner tubes!
  • 2 4
@f00bar: ok,tell that to my bike..was thinking, you could go full retard and slap a strip of old tyre of choice under the tube, this vhs thing looks like a tyre
  • 2 3
I just started using the side knobs of an old dh tire. I put it over a layer of inner tube that I decided to not remove. Looks exactly like this tape. Cost = zero
  • 2 0
V2 was already good. No peeling in the year I've had it installed. I can ride with the derailleur clutch turned off and all I hear is the b-tension bolt hitting the hanger. Haven't got around to that mod yet. Only you can decide if it's worth your money. But I can say that it works.
  • 1 0
 Thansk!!!
Yeah we upgraded for the few that did rub. Peace of mind too. Help me sleep at night knowing I’ve done all I can to improve the product

wondering what the algorithm is for the PB front page that I'm seeing this dec 20th post amongst mid January front page threads? This happens from time to time, wondering if PB editors inadvertently do this due to and edit that took place?

Best tape on the market imo. Been using for years and last used on my Commencal which is silent now. Makes a huge difference.
  • 1 0
If this is tape, how are those bumps created?
  • 1 0
@hydraulica: they're hollow. Just deeply embossed in the tape.
  • 7 7
Talk about over marketing. You sell a tiny piece of plastic. How many of these things do you need to sell to make up for the cost of that website/video? It literally took me 3 clicks to find photos of it on the bike, not a single video on installation etc.

I clicked on shop to see what else they sold, but nope.. just that one thing.

Sometimes, less is more.
  • 2 0
 This is my 4th integration.
This video cost me little more than just my blood sweat and tears ow god so many tears.
Websites are relatively cheap.

I have more products in the pipe line. More ideas I want to launch, but you might be surprised to learn it’s not always that easy Smile
  • 1 0
@VHS: well i'm glad to hear that you didn't pay someone to make the video. it's an impressive video, i can't do that. but i still stand by "less is more" i want to know about a product when i'm watching a video and the whole time i was like... so what am i learning about this product.

Still waiting for the Nokian Gazzaloddi version...

3 inches wide and ribbed for your pleasure.
  • 2 0
I use the vhs 2.0 tape on my hardtail. Works great. Keeps chain slap quiet. Strong glue, so need to get it right when you apply . Recommended.
  • 1 0
I had to work a little to figure out what the product looks like and how it worked, but I enjoyed the journey and when it comes time to needing a product like this, I will easily remember VHS. So, well done.
  • 5 3
Will it void my warranty on my frame ? Seems putting things on your bike theses days could have some sort of an affect.
  • 7 0
This if for chain silencing over paint protection but will suit both. If you’re concerned I would suggest useing your standard frame protection underneath first. Or if you need to remove VHS use a heat gun and do it slowly.
our adhesive is a lot more gentle in frames but obviously we can’t guarantee anything here with so many variables. Thanks
  • 4 2
@VHS: Your warranty states that it will be voided if not installed correctly.

The first step in installation is to remove your old tape if there is any.
  • 2 1
@VHS: I installed your tape over RideWrap and it peeled off in one spot... not a good idea
  • 1 0
@MidwestMountains: tape Warrenty not paint warranty.
Yeah, remove tape and oem protection.
Bu ridewrap and invis frame can stay.
  • 5 3
Make sure first that protecting your paint doesn't void your paint warranty.
  • 3 0
I'm sorry but does that say "even better box"?
  • 1 0
I did enjoy their first box though tbf
  • 2 0
 Yeah Smile
Must not have seen 1 and 2? Maybe they we’re better? Maybe I’m wrong.
Maybe it’s an even worse box Frown

How does it compare to 3m 2228 rubbermastic tape? (which is cheaper & works). curious as i've never tried the vhs tape

I used to use this very tape, loved it, works great! Just wares out over time. But each to there own

I enjoyed it too. Gave it just the right amount of kitscheyness ...
  • 1 0
@VHS are the bumps still the same height? I've struggled cause i love the tape but cant use it on my epic evo as the chain rubs on the v2 bumps.
