2013 Red Bull Rampage: WIN

Oct 14, 2013

NO VIRGINS LEFT BEHIND

With all the of the hours and dollars that go into an event like Red Bull Rampage, it takes a force of nature to stop it in its tracks. Today was full of delays, crashes and a premature, anticlimactic ending all due to the wind here in Utah. Despite the late start and the early finish, the riders still managed to pack in a spectacular show of record setting, crashing and comebacks.

All the big hits were taken advantage of and conquered today. Cam Zink set a record with the biggest flip drop ever off of the Big Girl on the Oakley Sender right after Kyle Strait threw a suicide no-hander off of it, a move that won him the event in 2004. Tyler McCaul managed to find a sizeable natural step down to incorporate in his run while Kelly McGarry surprised everyone by flipping the Canyon Gap.

Many of the athletes competing today ended their podium bids early with carnage. As the dark clouds came in, Logan Binggeli got bucked on the landing of the Oakley Sender, creating a game delay as onlookers waited for an indication that he was okay. After a long 30 minutes the medical team hoisted him on a backboard into an ATV to download him from the canyon, as the crowd cheered for him he threw the horns letting everyone know that he could hear them.

Andreu Lancondeguy, unhappy with his first score, threw down in a big way with his second run, winning over the crowd and judges with his rowdy, confident style. Unfortunately the wind picked up stranding over half the field at the top and leaving everyone present and those watching at home wondering what was going to happen. After a more than two hour delay that saw the winds settle and pick up repeatedly, it was with a mix of relief and disappointment that the audience watched as riders slowly descended from the top as a group. Shortly thereafter Brad Ewen’s signature voice echoed through the canyon announcing that the event would be cut short because of the wind, and riders would be judged solely on their first runs.

The decision for the rider’s safety was the right one, but we could not help but feel let down on behalf of the riders - those who did not get their second runs, and those who rallied in their second runs. In the end Lyle’s suicide no hander got him the top step on the box, while McGarry took second and Zink’s flip brought home third.

An incredible win for Strait once the youngest ever Rampage competitor. No one would deny the brilliance of his run but more than a few athletes observed that the decision not to ride due to wind fell on his turn and in the end ten riders missed a second chance. The flags hung still at the close of play at least at the bottom.

Overall, I think Strait didn't fully deserve to win, as most of the field didn't get their 2nd run. Mcgarrys' canyon backflip was a first ever, just like Zinks' sender backflip. But yet Strait gets a mis-representative top score for a repetitive suicide no-hander??? WTF???
Lacondeguy had more style and flow, Brendog kicked serious ass too, but alas, Kyle 'i'm a has-been' Strait get the win... The least Red Bull could do is carry the final over another day... So many guys got robbed, and even tho the public got to cast their votes - it didn't matter as the industry really doesn't give a flying 'Mcgazza' f*ck what the public thinks anyway...

again neg prop me if you want, just saying tho.

P.S. - for all the injured rider, Bingelli, Chubey, etc... get healed soon guys - no one can deny that your pushing the envelope is what makes this event...

I agree to your judgement, only I don't see how to continue such event on another day. That's just not feasible from all aspects of logistics, too many people and details involved.
  • 50 13
IMO Strait's run was better than Kellys. His top section was waaay more technical and he kept a good speed during all the run (not as much as Andreu tho). Rampage is not a best trick contest, is obvious than a backflip over the canyon gap is better than a suicide on the oakley sender. At least on the top 5 I agree 100% with the judges.

Dade- as already said, it's not a best trick comp. Both Zink and Mcgarry messed up on their runs, Strait didn't and he also sent that last booter end-to-end which is the first time that has been landed. To say it's not deserved because other riders didn't take their 2nd runs is foolish because this is hardly the first comp. that had to be called early due to inclement weather. It's a massive production that include TWO helis on top of a full production and TV crew, many volunteers, etc. The logistics behind pushing the comp. back a day just so a handful of riders can have a 2nd run would not be worth it or possible. I think the judges did a great job but I would not want to be in their position if Zink, Aggy, Semenuk, McGarry landed what they wanted to... all so insane.
  • 50 6
@dadebrown....easy with the name calling of strait....wouldn't call him a "has-been". I think the word you were looking for was "legend"
  • 11 4
I thought McGarry's big flip was insane his overall run really wasn't. His overall line was much more tame (by rampage standards) than many other riders and he didn't have a ton of flow. His run, much like Zinks was basically one big trick, and I feel they were both more than rewarded properly for such tricks by being put on the podium.

you know who won rampage? Me...as a fan it was all win. i just wanna say thanks to everybody who dropped in and picked up a shovel! these riders takin risks to show high level skill and what's possible by putting on one hell of a session was what i looked forward to. i like the bros before pros vibe this event has. I never give a crap about the results cuz i can't even relate to the elite level of riding these guys are at. I sit back and enjoy the lap dance and say thanks.

what also impressed me was that the first thing kyle did when he came to the bottom was not waiting and looking for his score or celebrating and giving out high 5s, no he grabbed a walky talky and talked to cam zink how it is to ride the sender that day with the weather and all that stuff, so cam can do an even bigger trick than he did! thats true sportmansship, thats another reason why i love to see him win!
  • 2 5
I agree with fullbug, (i love the optimism) but here is my opinion...
Every person competing at Rampage got robbed. To not count or even have a second run without prior notice is unfair. Not blaming the comp officials in any way, it's just too bad that there wasn't a better solution to this situation.

  • 1 0
@kdstones- mother nature robbed all of us! i imagine it would be difficult logistically. if it started to rain all the lines would've most likely needed rework or inspection at the very least. who knows how that might have played out as a waiting game. unlike a dh run in bad conditions, the wind factor is obviously a huge obstacle here. great point though. it's such a unique event to put together that they hopefully can address things like that in the future. I wonder how the riders felt about it.
  • 9 1
If it were a best trick contest yeah, McGarry or Zink should have won.

It's a big mountain contest. Strait actually rode a line he made unlike pretty much everyone else. He also rode more solid than either of them. Strait won Redbull Rampage fair and square. Redbull Rampage best trick, sure we can give it to either Zink of McGarry, I don't care about that because they should win that. But then again, it's not a best trick contest.

With the way everyone is overlooking the fact that Straits run was the most "true" to the spirit of the event, I wouldn't be surprised if the next Rampage was a pure slopestyle contest. Which is a shame because we don't get to see many events like this. Maybe free ride really is dying because hardly anyone here seems to understand what it means. Long live Slope-free-style-ride?
  • 3 5
cyrix- Strait and Zink shared the exact same runs... lolz. And this will never become a slope contest... the builders and event organizers will not let that happen and that's why they imposed new rules this year to limit the amount of polishing riders can do on their lines. There are going to be more contests like this, I'm hoping.

It seems a lot of you think that Zink or McGarry should have won, but, the thing is, they DID win. See how stoked they both were at the bottom? I don't really think either of them cared - what they did will probably be seen in mainstream media and no rider who witnessed those flips will ever forget them.

The good stuff is coming their way, and the bad stuff has been kept at bay.

Thats some thing I noticed in riders reactions to scoring , most didnt seem to give a fuck about the points, it's meeting personal goals of lines and moves and flow that makes this event great for them , fuck me flipping the canyon or sender is waaaaaaaaay more of a buzz than getting an ugly award !

... and while riders and racers keep on proclaiming that they just want to have fun, this time you could see in their face it's the truth, their own stoke was so awesome!

It's only "judged" in order to call it a competition. But really these guys just want to accomplish their goals and break the boundaries of the sport, thats why Rampage all started in the first place. I was there, I could tell nearly all of the riders were stoked. They didn't care about the awards, they were stoked to make history again! Major props to Andreu and T-Mac. I was thoroughly impressed with both of their runs.

  • 49 4
No idea whats wrong with some of you guys, did we watch the same rampage i wonder?
Kyle fully deserved first spot, had a banger trick, super flowy, and tricked pretty much everything with a LOT of style.
Kelly's run was superb, but it was mostly flip flip flip, and he totally deserved the 2nd spot.
Zink - massive backflip, but no tricks after that, even tho i'm ok with him 3rd, i think Andreu was a close for 3rd as well.

Just my 2cents...

Event was sick, judging was fine, weather sucked donkey ballz.

Not so funny how you dismiss flip flip flip. One flip was a tight cork on the exposed top, second flip over 70 foot canyon gap, third flip after nailing first two and still going for it. After Cam hit his he just rolled in to the corral. Kyle after his no hander, hit the long jump and that was it. I thought it was a big deal to keep hitting it like Kelly did. Kyle did have a difficult top section, but Kelly did flip it. Just some things I was thinking of.
  • 7 0
No saying flips are easy but if he put in a little variety like a 360 or a suicide then he likely could have challenged for the top spot. Strait's line up top was nucking futs. He didn't really have trail. His was loose. I felt Andreu is the one who got robbed. He rode his tech lines super fast and did tricks. I thought he deserved third if not second.
  • 3 0
I was sad that Andreu didn't get to keep the third he slotted himself into with his second run, but them's the breaks. His runs were my favorite, just because you could see the pure joy oozing out of him with every single hit.

Agassiz's 360 was so stylish, it's almost unbelievable how he can pull off a trick like that in such difficult terrain with ease. And on a downhill bike, at that
  • 5 0
I thought for SURE he took off wrong and was going to eat it sooooo hard. That dumped 3 was amazing.
  • 36 14
McGarry was robbed! The only man with enough balls to flip that gap! And the corked hip flip too! Such an under-rated rider!
  • 8 1
I feel the same a bit but he got off his line at the end, and i think thats what the judges convinced to put him in 2nd.
  • 11 0
Cam Mccaul was planning to flip it second run, so who knows what could've been.

Not sure he's underrated anymore either Wink
  • 19 3
Redemption, a wining run that isn't a dirt jump or slop style (don't get me wrong those are cool but we have so many slopstyle events and only one rampage!), the police can rest this year as no one was robbed!.
  • 18 3
Except for the 10 people who didn't get to ride again, we need the Environmental Police.
  • 14 0
Andreu Lacondeguy's run was amazing fast , clean and stylish Best run in my opinion
  • 3 0
yes a vote 100 for Andreu sooo fast and style!
second for me Zink he have a balls..
and big balls McGarry!!
Pierre Edouard Ferry was fast 2..
i'm Aggy fan Frown but i need to wait till next year,he will do frontflip Smile
  • 13 0
I think I am the only one who thinks T-Mac's run was a bit underrated, his hand built drop was HUGE!
  • 8 1
Such a sick event. Total bummer about the weather, but... Strait did have the best run for a big mountain freeride comp. Massive exposure, speed, and power straight down the gnarliest section of the course and going huge and perfect over two of the biggest built features that almost no one else hit. McGarry's canyon gap flip was mental, but compare his top section (basically a built flow trail with a drop or two) to Strait's top section and that there is the difference- It's Rampage, not CrankWorx Utah Slopestyle.
  • 11 0
Can anyone explain couch man? That's dedication to comfort.
  • 3 0
Mike Hopkins needed that couch on his back for his run! Might have made his landing more comfortable.
  • 9 0
Belgium is pretty flat, lots of respect for Thomas! Cam is sic ! best rampage ever!
  • 8 2
If Andreu had hit the biggest sender in his second run he'd have bumped Strait and would have deserved the win.

Strait's run was classic Rampage style so deserved big points.

McGarry flipped times in 1 run, I reckon if he'd done some variation after the big flip he'd have won and rightly so.

Zink's second run would've been the one to watch I reckon, he must have had some other lines planned for once he knew he could land the big flip drop?
To make it more than a one (albeit massive, insane, awesome) trick run?

Amazing show by everyone, gutted they didn't let it run to a 2 day final!!! I'm guessing it wasn't a redbull decision but a health and safety bullshit one.
  • 9 4
" but a health and safety bullshit one."

Yeah, what a bunch of a*sholes worrying about the riders and trying to prevent them from dying due to shitty conditions. I can't believe them.

/sarcasm

flag bouldertom (Oct 14, 2013 at 14:10) (Below Threshold)
If you read what I wrote, I at no point criticised the health and safety of holding off for better conditions.

I said I was gutted that the final wasn't carried on the following day. And that the reason for that was probably health and safety rather than funding, as Red Bull is a pretty comfy company cash wise.

I in no way suggested that anybody involved should take risks beyond where THEY see fit.
And certainly didn't question the riders or demand to see them in bad conditions.

Learn to read a full sentence before you question my attitude thanks mate.

Moron.

You said, and I'm directly quoting here: "I'm guessing it wasn't a redbull decision but a health and safety bullshit one."

So either I'm seeing things, or you're a liar. See, when you say something is bullshit you are implying it lacks merit or reason or means, or whatever you choose to define it as. In other words, you're criticizing it.

You directly called the reason they called off the second run "bullshit". I don't now how to make it clearer.

Pip pip cheerio mate.

#Apparantelywe'reputtinghashtagsinstuffnowtobeedgyorwhatever
  • 3 5
Are you being sarcastic again? It's hard to tell, you're so good at it...

When did I mention that calling off the second run was bull shit?

I speculated that the reason the final wasn't carried over to a second day may be to do with a health and safety decision.

What I implied is that maybe Red Bull would be able to carry it over to a second day, because they're a huge company and have money to spend.
BUT maybe health and safety laws etc might get in the way, purely speculation.

I used the term bullshit to criticize the general world of health and safety as a lot of the time it can be over the top, I didn't criticize anybody specifically it was just a comment.

I don't think you're a liar, just hyper sensitive for some reason, you missed out that I was writing mainly about how cool the event was and how well everyone did.
Sharing my opinion about a few of the riders and their runs.

And that it was a shame we didn't get to see what they had in run 2 and that they couldn't ride for a second day.

I used the # to poke fun at your country as it was invented by an American internet nerd, it has never been and never will be "edgy" I don't think. Bro.
  • 4 2
"When did I mention that calling off the second run was bull shit?"

Uh.... here....

"I'm guessing it wasn't a redbull decision but a health and safety bullshit one."
Said by you, in reference to them calling off the second runs.

"I speculated that the reason the final wasn't carried over to a second day may be to do with a health and safety decision. "
Which you then called "bullshit"

"I used the term bullshit to criticize the general world of health and safety as a lot of the time it can be over the top"
So you admit you called it bullshit. Okay...

" I didn't criticize anybody specifically it was just a comment.""
I never said you criticized anyone specifically.

Am I being punked? Where's Ashton Kutcher?
  • 1 4
Hahaaaaaaaaa go back an read my original comment.
You STILL don't understand that I wasn't talking about calling off the second runs, I give up.

Yes I hate the health and safety world in general and think a lot of it is bullshit am I not allowed that opinion?
Considering I work in an industry that relies on health and safety measures, but is also restricted by them in a bad way every day.
That STILL isn't me saying anything about the safety decisions the guys RIGHTLY made at Rampage.

You really took offense at something that I didn't actually say, it's weird.

Fair enough my mistake, you didn't imply that I criticized anyone specifically, my bad.

The rest of my comments I stand by.

The riders didn't want to drop and there was only so much light in the day and the wind wouldn't let up. When the wind did let up the helicopter had landed once the helicopter lands it cant start again for 20 minutes. It was a combination of all the above. Plus Strait was up next and in first place........... why would he go down and kill himself when he could wait it out he didn't want a second run lets be real.... p.s. I could hear the radio the whole time and spoke with many riders afterwards including Andreu. He was even out riding with everyone on thursday just hucking for fun and going huge
  • 1 1
Still not really what I'm on about, but cheers for the information Smile

Insanely jealous that you were there!!

Andreu's run was easily my favourite, what a beast, must be so impressive to see the lines in real life?
  • 1 1
Yeah they are insane no photo or video does them justice
  • 9 3
Some people seem to refuse understanding that Rampage isn't a single category best-trick contest. There are four equally rated categories. Having a too easy line choice eliminates perfect trick execution. I admire the judges not not get mislead by the one or other super trick but keeping focus on the overall impression. My point.
  • 3 0
So many voices saying Lacondeguy got robbed this year. But look at his bike sponsor YT, they are making a game and fun out of this on Facebook how to get over the 4th place curse he has. Thats the way to deal with questionable decissions - with some self irony.

If this is meant to be Professional! why not run it it another day, regardless of monday ' everyone has to work' ethos, the whole idea of professionalism isn't really taken fully seriously. No disregard to the rider... I think everyone would love a fair and equal chance at the WIN!
( Think about it, Wimbledon, it rains and the game is postponed till the following day...)
  • 1 0
I don't think the event is about professionalism. It's sports/entertainment/marketing.
  • 5 1
Huge respect for all the riders, it was absolutely insane what was thrown down. Though I do feel the judges may have gotten a little too excited on Strait's run compared to what McGarry pulled off.
  • 3 0
What an Epic day, the only thing that pissed me off was as soon as it was announced that the event was over they cut the feed, would have been cool to see the guys get the trophies and a post event interview or 2 from the riders. Kinda made it an real anticlimax.
  • 3 0
HUGE props to all who survived this, let alone hit the podium. Unbelievable skills and commitment !!.. I cant think of another sport that takes out so many competitors in a single event. Between practice, qualy's and comp there's a frighteningly low percentage of you animals left completely able bodied by the time its in the books. Healing vibes to the many who are suffering in the aftermath, your dedication is not lost on me. Rampage is thoroughly entertaining and awe inspiring regardless of results.
As for all the concern over podium worthiness ?... I've never ridden anything remotely close to what we witnessed, and after picking my jaw off the floor repeatedly yesterday, my mouth feels best left shut.
  • 1 0
I dunno, doesn't football take out player left, right and centre for bugs flying in players eyes, or another player getting within 1inch of touching them and 'breaking' other players ankle/shin/leg/arm (delete as appropriate)!....

 "No Virgins Left Behind"
Please try to be more original, that's about as clever as the announcer saying, "He's mentally going through his mind."
Redundancy and a lower IQ don't need to be perpetuated throughout the MB community. We're smarter than that, huck it bigger than that, love biking more than that.
  • 2 0
If anyone got robbed this year, it was Lacondeguy... He was WAY underscored in my opinion and although I woke my parents up when Zink flipped the sender, Andreu really should have had third. NOT to say Zink wouldn't have killed it on his second run... If Zink would have had another run I almost guarantee it would have gotten him first place.
  • 3 0
Honestly I thought Pierre's run was slick, risking the run on a backflip at the top, massive drop downs, speed... He should have scored 80+ did he miss the woodwork or something???
  • 4 1
God loves Rampage... Saved a few lives with that wind event. It's insane how much everyone stepped up over last year, and how much everyone was prepared to step up for their second runs.
  • 2 0
They're all lucky that the wind exempt Bizet of his second run! The rumors said that if Zink fliped the sender like he does, Bizet should do the same with an extra ho-handers... Maybe next year with the double back. & Bravo to McGarry too!
  • 3 1
Judging by the comments of those who think the Judging sucked, it seems that those people don't really understand the criteria for this event and how the riders are actually judged. See the link below which does a great job of explaining it. Its should shed some light on things and to me make it clear that Strait was a deserving winner, based on what this event is about and how its judged.

www.pinkbike.com/news/Redbull-Rampage-Judging-Explained-2012.html
  • 3 1
Straight for the win. He owned the top line that owned Doerflinger and Semenuk and Bizet. He then flowed across the face and super styled out the table top. He was the first to do the big sender in the wind no handed and then launch off the huge feature at the bottom. He rode the whole course with authority without one mistake.
  • 2 0
I love shooting. I have a CCW to carry a pistol and I am not afraid of guns or the people who carry them. That said, I think that using pistols as props in bike pics to make them seem shocking or cool is the stupidest shit ever. Fail.
  • 2 0
agreed. I guess they couldn't find a rock to use as a paperweight. Not many rocks in Utah.
  • 3 0
For the most part I'm happy with the judges decisions and I loved the whole event. If it was 100% up to me, I'd a given T-Mac the win.
  • 2 0
These riders are all winners for me, because they have so much different riding styles. Dope action and the development of this event is so insane!!!! Bingelli, Hopkins and T-Mac are my favourite riders!!
  • 1 0
IMO, nobody got robbed. In this type of event where the riders have the freedom to ride different lines, there are so many factors that go into scoring each rider. T-Mac opened things up with a ridiculous line, but didn't really perform any tricks. On the other hand, Strait and Zink had some technical terrain up top, but after hitting the sender it seemed to get a little less technical than some of the other rider's lines. So do you give more points for originality, tricks, speed? It's hard to say, but we can all agree that Zink's backflip off the sender was the gnarliest and ballsiest trick of the day that justified his 3rd place finish. I give props to the judges, I think they scored it pretty fairly all things considered.

The funnest lines to watch IMO were Lacondeguy's and McGarry's. Both of those guys had some technical aspects of their runs, but both mixed in some tricks and style to really get the crowd into it. McGarry's backflip over the canyon gave his run an edge, but that Superman and 1-handed seat grab by Andreu got me stoked as well.

Overall, this competition was so sick to watch and a big thanks goes out to all the riders and everyone who helped prepare for this rad event. Sucks that the wind played a factor, but at least we got to see everyone go through at least once.
  • 3 1
People backflipped, supermanned, motowhipped and the one who suicide down the oakley center won. (Yes that's the only trick he did)
McGarry flipped the top, gap and bottom and got second ?!?
This isn't right... right?
  • 2 1
I have to agree with many of the previous coments.
1. Cam Zinks back flip should have landed him 1st place even if he did anything else...
2. McGarry´s back flip was equally impresive or even more considering a 71 foot gap, he threw more tricks in his run than Zink, and thus was deserving the 1st place
3. Nothing against Strait, but a no hander (even if that big) doesn´t feel as risky and the backflips thrown.
4. Is to bad Aggy felt down, I though he had a 2 or 3 spot run.

I feel too that McGarry should have ended up on the Top!
  • 3 2
Judges screwing the fun in the end as always. Get rid of the judges Red Bull and just let people vote from home/spectators as this even would be just a session without spectators. So get rid of the judges, save money over them and let people/spectators decide as the fan favorite ranking was perfectly spot on!
Oh and when somebody makes a great run and crashes you give such a low score, that so old school! Forget the scoring like that and let just people vote as they feel who was the best! Most of people who watches would be fully happy, who cares for a bunch of judges who destroys the peoples and riders fun. Have you seen the faces of riders when they get the score? f*ck THESE JUDGES AND THEIR SYSTEM! Time to get rid of them!!!!!!

McGazza
Zink
Lacondeguy
Straight - TMac tied

Criteria for winning Rampage: American, check! Hitting the main sponsors line, check! In all fairness thiough awesome riding from all of the riders, congrats!

such an amazing event, Andreu's run was sick and Zink, man he should be the definiton for red bull
  • 1 1
Great contest and super sweet footage during the last week. Saw some amazing things happen. Too bad about the judging and the weather. Congrats to all riders, crew and photographers/filmers for keeping us close to our screen!
  • 2 0
That cameraman sitting at the edge of the cliff beside Semenuk hitting his drop is also one ballsy human being. Andreu's run was also so sick just such high speeds
  • 3 0
Andreu Lacondeguy... destined to come 4th at Red Bull Rampage. Here's hoping next time will be redemption for him.
  • 6 1
 Legendary.
  • 2 1
Only 1 comment? It looks Rampage can't be described in words. But congrats to Strait, Zink and McGarry! Living legends. Thank you! (Was cheering so hard for Laco and Semenuk but i guess it didn't help...)
  • 4 0
 So....what happened to Kirill Benderoni???!!!???!!!

 he didn't qualify.

Dones147: where did you get this info from please(link?)? To me it is an absolute madness to get to rampage and then not even TRY to qualify...what was he thinking???
  • 3 0
vk.com/benderoni his page on russian . He sad that hi lost motivation to be a rider and will not ever ride a bike...
  • 5 0
Thanks afixor, with a little help of googletranslate I understand he lost motivation, no longer wants to ride etc....but after getting an invitation to the biggest and best Freeride MTB contest, writing how hyped he was to finally be able to go there and compete, getting there with an obvious help from his sponsors, he decides not to put even a single run down the mountain???!!! Not even trying??? What a weird world we live in!
  • 3 0
yeah, he further confirms his lack of motivation in the comments. he goes on to say how we wont hear from him again and something about him not living up to expectations. it's a shame really i thought he was what biking was all about
  • 1 0
That's disapointing really, a weak reaction. I can imagine he lost confidence after having to compare himself to world class riders, but I expected him to man up really and *try*.
Also, he had his mini blog in preparation of Rampage in a german magazine website. Last entry is of qualification day, sounds like he intended to ride: www.freeride-magazine.com/news/artikel/benderoni-goes-rampage-blog-serie-4-gestern-knochenbrueche-heute-wird-es-ernst-quali/12/10/2013

The competition was amazing. Redbull's commentators not so much. Replace them with Richie Schley and Tippie next time. Sorge was an awesome commentator too, but hopefully he'll be competing next year.
  • 2 1
Anyone else suspicious that Strait was in the lead, and made the final call to cancel before his run? I mean, it even says the flags were still at the bottom at the time... Hmmm..
  • 1 0
Rampage for me is all about big mountain riding. Lines which are technical and scarry as hell are the pure essence of this event ( look back at the Claw or Bourdo lines and their imagine about rampage ).
  • 1 0
Very interesting to see how the highlights of the event made into a Japanese Business Newspaper (Nihon Kezai Shinbun) today Tuesday 15th, mainly focusing on the winning runs from Strait, Zink and McGarry plus some crashes.
  • 1 0
I'll just leave this here too: www.be-mag.com/msgboard/showthread.php/65653-Red-Bull-Rampage?p=1062802&posted=1#post1062802
Props, this should of been the only judging...
  • 1 0
McGarry won it. His line wasnt quite as fluid but it the flip over the canyon gap trumped all. Straights run was awesome and was def top 3 but McGarry should of took home the win.

So cool that Kyle Strait won! It's almost like Peaty in Canberra. Dude's a legend now and every sport needs legends just as it needs underdogs. So bloody happy for him!
  • 3 6
While the suicider was scary, I have the feeling that "every sport needs legends" came as an argument to judges. All that crap noise about >>the curse and >>no one ever won twice seemed to call for a repeating winner.
