Say hey to Elli. Park Tool was set up at the Outdoor Demo entrance offering thirsty visitors free beer... and water too.
I don't often ride fatbikes... but when I do... Salsa's Bucksaw may drive a nail into the "I'm just having soooo much more fun riding my Faaaaht Bike" hipster horde - in a good way.
Call to prayer: Three thousand guests who snapped on their spandex kits, pounded down breakfast and then rushed to catch the bus to Outdoor Demo - eventually had to make an offering at the Sin City confessionals. The bicycling Bhagavad Gita states: all bad bicycle industry people will reincarnate, somewhere on earth, as one of these.
Reportedly, it took only five drinks to name Transition's new four-bar rear-suspension system. Meet the GiddyUp link, and the 2015 Patrol. I think we'd enduro that.
Tim Young said that Crankbrothers sold over 300 pairs of pedals to Dirt Demo guests in the first four hours of the show. He plans to sell over 1200 pairs in two days.
PB doesn't do e-mountain bikes. Felt's Bruhaul burden bike was the best use of e-power at the bike show. Felt used smaller, 24-inch wheels to double up the torque available from the Bosch motor drive so that urban delivery riders can beat trolleys to busy intersections and car-free hipsters can take their families to the movies after work. Well done.
Intense CEO Andrew Herrick said that they are assembling a serious assault on the World Cup DH circuit. The team will be announced in the near future and, if all goes as to plan, it will be headlined by top-five talent.
Vee Rubber's studded Snowshoe XL fatbike tire should get you through at least one Alaskan winter riding season - but you're gonna have to pay to play...... wait for it........ $400 a pair for the studded version and $350 a pair for the standard Snowshoes.
Lezyne Classic Chain Rod is approved for 11-speed cassettes and features screw-in chain retainers, and an integrated cog wrench: $28 USD.
Lezyne Shock Drive pump has a simple, in-line gauge and services shocks and forks up to 300 psi: $45 USD.
Lezyne Mega drive (left) and Deca Drive LED lighting systems are USB rechargeable and put out 1400 and 900 lumens, respectively. Mega: $200. Deca: $160 USD. Lezyne offers a CNC-machined aluminum mounting hardware kit for an extra $50
Vincent is modeling Lazer's Magneto eyewear that pops into magnetic latches on the helmet's retention straps.
Giant's all new Reign Advanced 1 was the most wanted demo bike in its fleet. The carbon-framed enduro/AM machine is a fresh look for Giant - a wicked one.
Surly, was the 26-inch fatbike pioneer and they recently brought in the very promising 29er Plus, mid-sized tire and rim. We compare them here.
We were told that it is basically the same as the European version, but much faster, and with the addition of double-jumps and crocodile pits.
Osprey's Moki mini hydration pack (left) is perfect for fast-paced XC trail rides, but it would also make an awesome back-to-school pack for a lucky offspring: $50 USD
The story goes that 100% got a call from Sam Hill mid-way through this year's season, searching for an eyewear sponsor. The corporate guys almost blew him off, because their core marketing was youth based. With some prodding, 100% signed Sam and one month later, the King of Flats ripped the World Cup to shreds. Well, OK then.
Vermarc handily won PB's best transport van award with Bill Ramsay's 1967 Volkswagen micro bus. The interior is also immaculate - and it is his daily driver.
On the way back to our hotel rooms, we were surprised to see this beautifully crafted scale model of the USS E-Mountain Bike in the lobby.

Well played PB, well played.
"You didn't bring a spare tube!"
A $15 set of cleats per year, as well as an annual clean and re-grease of the needle bearings. Mine look like they went through both world wars but they function at 100%. I've had mine for 3 seasons.

That is a bold statement. Can't wait to see what develops. Off season is always interesting.
Might get some hate for this; but the Palmer thing seemed all hype. He's an advertising piece, sure, but he's not about to go win any titles. Intense could really get back into the game by picking up the right names.
Don't get me wrong, Sam is f*cking incredible on a bike and his run in World Champs was even faster than Ratboys, at least up to his crash, but what I'm saying is, that it's veeeery unlikely that Hill would be standing where he is right now, if it wasn't for Nigel Page.
Hill was pretty much hitting rock bottom when kicked out by Specialized, he was having injury after injury, he was chubby and also mentally absolutely out of form. Pretty much nobody believed that he'd still got it in him - apart from Nigel and maybe from what was left of his former fanbase.
But Nigel took Sam under his wings and gently started to build him up again, he not only just believed in him but built a whole team and pretty much his whole marketing strategy around the Sam Hill Superstar image. It took him over a year to get Sam his confidence back. Also Sam seems to be pretty much like family to Nigel.
On the other hand CRC has some serious racing history with Intense if you look back at the '07 team

It's going to be interesting to watch the development, but my educated guess is, that Intense is going for a seriously talented young gun and trying to build him up with Palmers' help instead of buying an expensive old dog.
World Champs

5 Brook
UCI Ranking
1 Josh

World Cup Rankings
1 Josh
2 Gwin

4 Sam
5 Gee
I can't see Gee, Josh or Sam leaving their current teams. I can't see them affording Gwin. Personally I reckon it'll come down to Brook, Blenki or Troy.
1. Shawn Palmer
2. Shawn Palmer
3. Shawn Palmer
4. Shawn Palmer
5. Steve Peat, but dressed as Shawn Palmer
I will agree to the latter though, there's a lot of fanboys out there. Think it has to do with the Americanized (led by Gwin at the very least) team.
Ah but that yellow...vinyl time or plasti dip I guess
And most reports say the travel adjust isn't reguired in this bike.
$2k more for xx1 basically. Wheels and cockpit always get switched out. ..
Honest question given the massive amount of people who ride with these-Do they still suffer catastrophic failure and require frequent rebuilds? My experience has been nothing short of horrific but maybe they've turned around? They look great but I'm hesitant due to previous reliability issues.
Needs to be in production!
