Bikenerd - I guess you can be forgiven for not having read ... well... any comments on any article or even any articles themselves regarding Steve Smith recently ... as that was not an original tweet to begin with!
He was 5 secs slower than last year! The rest of the top 10 were 26" a mix of DH bikes as well , Sic Mik came 2nd full DH, wasnt Nick Beer on the Dixson, not a bad result for him! Not a hater I reckon Stevie is going to win World Champs in SA in a coupe of weeks, he's on fire and has the confidence right now!
Why are there wheel size haters to begin with? Bikes are fun. All bikes are fun, and all wheel sizes. Or so it should be, but quite a few people here cry and cry and cry over wheel sizes.
Put me on a bike, any size wheel and I'll be having fun. While people cry and throw temper tantrums and make homophobic remarks about other wheel sizes.
Just watched the AirDH replay… So frustrated to see my time was good enough for podium just before I flatted! #29erRocks #nextyear Text by Mighty Anneke Beerten on twitter.!!!
The track has changed and from Lopes' preview it sounds like it was pretty bombed out. If Stevie was first this year and last year, that means EVERYONE was either slower or the track variations are the reason. Something tells me that nobody was that slow.
It actually has alot to do with course conditions. If you knew how they have changed from last year it may explain different times. He probably would have rode faster if the course was the same as last year. Just sayn
Yeah, A-line is longer than it used to be because the WBP crew put in a lot of work on that trail this year, so that in itself explains the longer times. Also, Whistler is super fucking dusty and rutted right now, so the conditions also add a different element to it.
No one, not one person is saying anything that you are implying bigbossman. They were explaining why the times were different with actual facts, and all you're doing is being a child about it. You go ahead and keep crying about wheel sizes though. Reeeeeeeal mature for a 34 year old.
What is the point of this? They are big boys, such attitudes make some of them who they are - great sportsmen, our idols. You can't run away from who you are and certain people have different ability to hold demons inside. and some put them on Tweeter. I hate this "I lost all my respect to Greg & Lopes" - then you obviosuly haven't got it before, and for what exactly did you respect him?! Charity, being a devoted friend, eager scientologist, cartoonist or because he's a God daeeem good rider. And if you like to see such riding why the fk do you care what his personality is? He ain't your friend and he hasn't done any harm to you or any of your friends, family or even associates - Stupid pish! They will sort it out between themselves with less than a half of a beer, while tools like you Honch and your proppers, will blow it to the size of "insert the name of your favourite rider" balls
So show some respect, cuz Lopes, has made such an impact on the sport and that it wouldn't be the same without him so you have something to thank for. Try some distance for fks sake... and if you want to dis someone, at least make us laugh by keeping it up beat.
Lopes has rubbed me the wrong way for years, seems only appropriate that his tweet was complaining about some nonsense. Ride your bike, let that do the talking, not yr thumbs on twitter!
I think that the spirit of Air DH is taken away when you essentially go around a massive jump to save 1/2 second. It just feels like cheating... regardless of where the tape is or isn't. That's why I like the whip-off..
That's the whole point of the air DH. In case you didn't realize, they are trying to NOT get air. They are trying to squash at least half of the jumps in order to not overshoot to flat.
That just shows that the people of pinkbike just aren't paying enough attention to the top women. We would like to see more photos, more articles and more interviews of women on your site. can that get some props?
I would think that trail conditions change enough in a year to make times incomparable. Think of the speed difference in just a couple turns depending on how braking bumped they are. Now multiply that over an entire trail. Dusty and loose or packed down? ect Everyone didn't get slower in the last year, Gwin would tell you the opposite is true.
Looks like he was, but with 26" wheels not the 650b it's capable of taking. Anyway I don't see the point of debating wheel size on this course. Not rocky enough to make a difference.
Only sikmik on top 5 that uses 8" DH bike (though with crossmax front wheel) in this AIR 'DH'.. should it be called AIR 'TRAIL' ? Just sayyin.. no offense tho..
so funny being in the finish and hearing the massive cheer when brian lopes was over nick beers time. everyone was cheering louder for that than for stevies win

Looks awesome, I hope it's a 160mm carbon am/enduro rig!
Wouldn't it be "Floriane Pugin" instead?
Great for Giant guys BUT, Bummer for Danny Hart .. (( ... (now i'm thinking about he's been training with golfer fitness instructor in off season)
