We've all been there: It's the rock roll you've done a thousand times before, that one off-camber root section, or maybe it's your first time hitting a brand new drop - you crash. Accidental crashes are part of our sport. EVOC certainly don’t want you to provoke crashes for this competition but they would like to keep you safe on your next adventure by dishing out prizing for the best fail of each month. Here are our picks for April.

Why why why must people with iPhones film vertically??
  • 477 7
They should all be disqualified.... especially number #5. I feel like nothing worse could happen to mtbing than kids taking selfies while filming their friends riding. Good lord I hate society.

@snoopy24777: glad I clicked the link haha
  • 68 15
You can pretty safely bet it was an iphone too. Android users would never do something so heinous

@drjohn: Pretty sure that I would never be able to say no to Mila Kunis...my wife would have to do it for me.

Unfortunately it's so common that a lot of websites are actually having to cater for vertical video now

@scott-townes: Awful. Get your stupid gob out of the video. No one wants to see that mug, bud.
  • 8 0
@snoopy24777 thanks for bringing that stolen content to our attention! @DanielWallis thanks for posting the correct link!
  • 1 0
@mattdennison someone has stolen your video! They have over 20k views already
  • 1 0
 because its a fail Smile
  • 1 0
It's fail of the month, right? I can't figure out if the vertical film, or the selfie filming is a bigger fail.
  • 3 0
 @duckcrisps: ALERT THE INTERNET POLICE!!!
  • 1 0
@mattdennison: They need to be shut away!
  • 2 0
Turn your goddamn phone to landscape. Disqualify the vertical videos.

#2 was awesome.
  • 1 2
Because that's how most people naturally hold the phone and they're not thinking about the video. Why must people always ask this rhetorical question?
  • 1 0
@e46s54: we "must" ask this "rhetorical" question to get people to stop making brutal videos . . .oh, sorry, I meant horrible moving digital image files.
  • 2 0
@rrolly: Not sure if this saying has made it above the northern border or not, but "don't argue with a fence post".

 Stop filming vertically!

fail of the month = vertical video
  • 51 0
One of the few editions where I don't worry if some of the entries are alive or not
  • 5 0
seriously. kind of a relief IMO--was starting to feel like watching a damn snuff film sometimes
  • 47 0
#7 is not even a crash that was just a boss eject.
  • 19 1
+1000 for using the word 'boss'
  • 4 0
Clearly that was in fact a BOSS eject... that's a lot of knowledge and no failure at all in that. It's the best movie though. Smile
  • 44 0
That crash in spokane was gnarly
  • 4 0
Thinking that it's probably Beacon area by the river. I've had some good crashes up in that area.
  • 2 0
I was there, crashed on it that day (nothing that bad)

Dude in practice crashed there just as bad, broken collar bone, went farther riders left which is larger drop/rockier

This guy I believe popped back on his bike and was finished his run
  • 1 0
Michael is a boss and finished his run! I crashed there that day to in practice! F-ing gnarly to crash in.....needless to say I couldn't do my race run due to pain...Frown
  • 7 0
It hurt like hell! But not enough to stop my run!
  • 1 0
@litespeed74: Beacon indeed, they've got a race event out there. That line is f*cking gnarly, the whole course was but this part was really just grip it and go.

Before this you could either take two lines, around these trees or the faster one and go between them. People were clipping there bars and catapulting down the rock garden face first. Shit was raw.
  • 1 0
@litespeed74: It is. That section is gnarly
  • 42 0
 Number 2.... IM OKAY!
  • 32 1
Fastest, "I'm OK" Ive ever heard! haha
  • 5 1
Especially with the hand raised peering over the lip of the jump...im ok...you ok?...im ok
  • 3 0
@stretchza: pretty sure that hand was up before even hitting the ground. Love it!
  • 3 0
But is the bike OK?? That ding sound as the bike hit the tree caused me to wince more than her body contact with ground hehe
  • 2 0
 apparently she's ok
  • 2 0
Is it me or that one is the sound of the front tire rubbing the fork crown?. That's why she falls down.
  • 29 0
Love how the cheering stops and it goes quiet when someone crashes. And starts up again when everyone sees you're ok.
  • 18 0
The best is chair lift runs on skis... Its the best thing to watch someone come off a cliffdrop at mach 10, cartwheel 7 times down the mountain, then get up and say "I'm ok!!!" The whole lift goes nuts.
  • 17 1
@Grutten: except I usually end up going 30 feet to flat and never getting up and all the people on the lift think I'm dead.
  • 17 0
I feel people who record vertically on their phones shouldn't be allowed to use cameras, let alone post content online.
  • 1 0
 Agreed!
  • 15 0
I don't want to be a sexist but #2 is a chick so she wins. The world needs more badass chicks on bikes.
  • 4 0
 and she's ok

  • 11 2
Oh Man, how was this one not in the top 8?

  • 10 2
Number 4; Funny how a few decades ago Ireland had a potato famine, now they're even using them for filming.
  • 3 0
In a world where even young kids seem to have iPhones or samsungs, why are we still having to watch grainy slightly out of focus videos!
  • 3 2
@andyfreeride because Ireland is poor AF. I know I am irish. Lol
  • 4 1
For me a proper fail must include a half asked feature they spent the prior week building haha. Nothing like people trying to build jumps only to have them colapse.
  • 5 1
The entries this month were very underwhelming. You can fall better, Pinkbike.
  • 3 0
#6 because he so eloquently captured that anus puckering moment we all have fractions of a second before impact...
  • 3 0
In the first clip, bars look to wide and the bike to big, its like he's not 'riding' the bike, but just hanging on.
  • 5 0
But wide bars are cool remember. As long as they're at least 900mm wide, it doesn't matter if you can't actually reach the grips.
  • 4 0
Yeah! Turn the farting phone horizontally, fockers!
  • 3 0
 THIS WINS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! www.pinkbike.com/photo/13472969
  • 1 0
 wow, is he ok?
  • 1 0
Not really. Still alive but not ok at the moment
  • 1 2
5 made me stop for a second, it's my new local riding spot and I've been sending the much bigger jumps there (18ft+ doubles), after seeing that kid slam I have a slight doubt about how safe the bigger stuff is if he shattered his elbow on an 8ft tabletop.
  • 4 0
The jumps at Belmont are really well made, the kid crashed 'cos he doesn't know how to jump... or at least I think that's the case but can't really make it out due to the guy's head in the frame.

I've seen lots of "nearly" crashes on the set of 3 smaller tables as those are the least intimidating and therefore the default choice for kids that need to cut their teeth at Stockwood first.
  • 1 0
#2 is my favourite - i like it when people sound that chirpy after a big stack.
#8 might be awesome but I don't have an Imax to watch it on so gets marked down
  • 2 1
Oh look, the village idiot has a phone, and he taught his cousins how to film with them too. uuuuughhhhh, obtuse ingrates.............
  • 3 0
 Where's the MacDuff crash video?

  • 1 0
 @Ducimus: thanks - I'll check it out.
  • 2 0
Girls crash (and bounce back) too!
  • 2 0
#3 really knows how to silence a crowd

Number 4- the rider looks like a jockey! #enduroisgay

  • 1 0
"O f*ck"...it doesn´t matter which is you mather language, you will alwasy say that when the time comes.
  • 2 0
