Absolutely love this kind of event! Shredding with 150 guys during Red Bull Campo! I had to be a little aggressive to pass the maximum amount of guys before the finish line, easy goal, but hard to do haha.
So much fun, thanks to everyone involved. Next year I want to see even more riders— Loic Bruni
@MinTheMerciless: Dude, you should see the rest of the world! Whenever I have Europeans visit they're like "Wow, merging lanes actually works in Canada!".
@chris6-6-6: zipper merging as the Americans calls it works fine here.. Canadians merging into the flow of traffic onto the highway is laughable at best.
@notthatfast: If you want to learn how to merge or queue, come and spend a week in the UK. You'll find plenty of other things here are totally hopeless, but we're REALLY good at taking turns.
@watchtower: this is an understatement. I've driven all over the world and live in Adelaide now - absolutely the most shitful driving Ive seen anywhere.
Problem is some of us signed up to support Beta and that's turned into the Pinkbike sellout. It's a weird deal signing up with one website, then another one sells out and I'm a subscriber there too.
my morning news feed….interesting….Bruni doesnt have that off-the-bike running fitness that I thought he would use when riders clustered and blocked the trail. He sure acted like a dick in the early part of the video. still it was fun watchin him be a dick! you almost HAVE to be a dick to move up and pick off riders early on when there arent many lines. all those dry dusty leafy off camber benched lines kept him on his game and breathing hard! I liked it!
I assumed Redbull would've canned this format after watching Foxhnt. Seems higher risk to the pro's than a WC dh race.
I bet its an absolute rush doing it though.
I flew over from the States in 2017 and 2018 to do the Red Bull Fox Hunt in Ireland. It was the most amazing time even though I had a spectacular crash in 2017 that was captured in a 10 photo set going over the bars. I had a blast, I finished the race, and I beat people. It was such an amazing time and I cannot wait to go back to Ireland whenever they have it again. I would have gone to race the Campos if we would have been allowed in the country. Loic is a cool dude, and the way he raced was anything goes. LOL.
Haha!! Literally one of my local group rides. Full of middle aged guys trying to out do each other. Lots of new riders get super butt hurt by it. Not for everyone, those who stick with it have a good time.
Honestly - I think in all fairness - he should have waited until they ALL passed through the RedBull start - what's the point beating dudes still waiting to get on track. But hey, that's just me. Love the chaos.
So, is there a name for this kind of event? It’s one pro racer trying to pass all the Jerrys before the finish? Do they run all the Jerrys back to the top for the next pro to try the same thing? What’s the deal?
Check out Red Bull Fox Hunt on YouTube. It is a race that started in Ireland as a tribute to a local who was instrumental in trail building. At some point Red Bull got involved. I went over in 2017 and 2018 to race it. I was the only American there in 2017, and probably 2018. It was such a great time! I wanted to go to France, but United States wasn't part of the dropdown options to signup. Probably related to Covid.
Bullshit. That's what makes it fun. Everyone knows what they are in for in this race. The Foxhunt is the exact same. I know friends who were muscled out of the way by him, gee and Greg Callaghan and they all loved it.
The entire race format is that a pro (bruni) starts at the back and has to try and fight their way to the front. He wasn't being a dick, he was doing what he was supposed to do. What all the entrants paid to have him do...
Look for RedBull Fox Hunt, an event that has been going on for like 10 years in Northern Ireland, this is the exact same idea, no one is loosing fans, no one is been a dick. All riders start and then a Pro rider, on this case Loic, starts after them and then tries to fight his way to the front and see how many he can overtake. No one gets angry with him, is all fun and pushing each other to try not to be overtaken by one of the fastest riders in the DH circuit. Also, if you do a MaxiAvalanche, MegaAvalanche, Mountain of Hell or any other "mass start" race is exactly the same and even worst, riders fighting and pushing each other to be the 200th or 201, those one can be nasty, been on several of them and I love it but many riders just turn into dicks with a race plate on.
@elyari: Even Rachael and the girls had their own RB Fox Hunt and still going as of 2018. Loic is even in the "RED BULL FOXHUNT FEVER: Atherton Diaries 14". www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBi9yKf5vGU
@Augustus-G: Yeah, Loic raced the Red Bull Fox Hunt in Ireland in 2017 and 2018. I spoke to him at World Champs 2019 in Mont-Sainte-Anne and he told me he wanted to do one in France. I race in 2017 and 2018 in Ireland and wished I could have gone to France for this race, but people from the States didn't have our country option in the dropdown when I tried to sign up last year and this year. Probably related to Covid.
Come to a complete stop merging on and violently swerve at the last possible moment merging off. That about covers it I think
I’m from the UK, that’s how I know Canadians are hopeless. Don’t get me started on roundabouts…
