was a 2 minute intro necessary?
  • 49 1
Seeing em tighten the stem bolts and put the bar on tighten the face place... on both sides! Got me so pumped on being stoked!
  • 24 0
it was the laces that got me stoked but every one to their own i suppose.
  • 5 1
 Pretty cool vid!
What lid is he using?
  • 8 0
its one of those dissident helmets by specialized i think Smile they cost a bomb though :/
  • 14 1
It was like an episode of cribs. The 2 minute intro was necessary so we would all be jealous of the bike shop, nutrition bars, Goggles lineup and lift service he enjoys on a daily basis. What a Rockstar. Seriously though... I'm jealous of all that and the riding skills too!
  • 21 1
 @ 3:21,

Dramatic zoom to the ground ahhhhhhh!!!!!

God, when I see those I laugh so hard Wink

Very nice edit, the sun/lighting is perfect.
  • 11 5
Don't worry, it seems with the improving of filming technology comes an increase in filming non-person-riding-bike type shots, so the intros will keep getting longer and more irrelevant! Just what we all want!
  • 11 1
Cause we all know that ONLY the latest cameras/video equipment can slowly zoom in on a stand-still object...
  • 4 0
As a viewer I like the videos where the product placement is more subtle. But I would like to hear from riders/editors who are supported by the industry: do they like it this way, where it is clear that the edit begins w/ a straight-up commercial/advert, or is this something the riders/editors thought up themselves or just copied from the vids of years past or ... ? Appreciate any insight.
  • 5 2
true but those deity pedals do look sexy.
  • 11 0
No insight from an actual videographer that is directly supported.

But as product placement goes, they are sponsered, and therefore have to directly incorporate it into their videos. Some people (I think a lot) WANT to do it. It shows your "power" and whose supporting you. Like if the richest man on the world completely and directly supported you in whatever you did, wouldn't you mention/brag about that constantly? I would. Then that "person" or advertiser has done his/her job. Where you become the walking advertisement and spread the word. Not to mention, people are driven by materialism, having nice footage pan over sexy brand new out of the box equipment definitely looks good no matter how much you like/hate product placement.

Especially in biking, PP is hard to show unless you really zoom in on it. If you are ripping down a course @ 35-45mph how can you see the handlebars are made by Deity in the first place you know? The means of PP in this case is just straightforward, get it out of the way but look good doing it. Subtle PP can go wrong too and is hard to blend it in with anything...PP is conceptually "loud/very noticeable". At the point you blend PP products into the backdrop or whatever it no longer becomes true PP and rather subliminal messaging/marketing. Most companies/advertisers don't want that, they want to know their products are being shown, guaranteed.

Like I said it was the gloves! watch when He is donning his helmet. Gloves on then of then on again! I don't know why I notice such things?
  • 3 1
You don't know how many takes someone has to do in order to get one scene right haha. Ride down hard, oh wait videographer wasn't fully ready, back up hill, go again, rider doesn't look aggressive enough, back up hill, rider crashes, fix bike, go back up hill, etc etc.
  • 2 1
@Russ-69: its a specialized deviant helmet. and i agree with spicy mike, nothing wrong with a bit of product placement here or there, after all thats how we get all these free high quality videos online!

nice job on the edit, that trail looked dope
  • 6 3
I love how everyone is so negative on here, if you are so good at making videos. Go make your own "perfect video", and if not. Shut up!
  • 3 0
hell if I had any sponsors I'd make an hour long intro about them(I'm pretty sure I'm speaking for lots of people out there)... but then again, I don't have any thus saving all some criticism about lengthened intros.

But just before anyone out there who has a weak mindset for interpreting hyperbole goes on a quest for justice, I was exaggerating Smile
  • 3 2
Yeah, I gotta say, way too much in your face product placement for the amount of footy offered. I'm so sick of slowmo wank footage. Give me real time trail.
  • 2 1
 @jchb - "was a 2 minute intro necessary?"

... Yes !
  • 4 0
yes it was , i think it was very good, good shots and great music, and really made me want to see the other part of the vid Smile
  • 2 2
You shut up. Just kidding. Your negativity about others negative comments concerns me. Go make your "perfect comment". If not...
  • 1 0
 Hahahaha
  • 1 0
Watch his other videos and you'll see that it is just his style of video making. Some like it others don't, if you do not then don't watch the F*cking videos...
  • 2 0
Emeryball, If you don't like peoples' comments and opinions, don't read them. I suppose YOU know if you're going to like a video or comment before you watch/read it? Do you see the flaw in your statement now?
  • 1 0
an argument on the internet is not worth my time sorry, emeryball if thats what you were looking for.
  • 39 3
now how do i get my utv back from the top of the hill.......sick edit
  • 8 0
 Thought the same thing
  • 9 0
I just get my cameraman to drive it down!
(I make him walk up to the top of the hill first though, just so he knows who's boss...)

Just get your cameraman to do the same ;-)
  • 1 0
I've been wondering the same thing... if there's no cameraman, like just regular riding, how could he get his utv back..
  • 3 2
..I agree Mr. Heyburn, seems like this kid has enough money to produce a video and ride daddy's GOLF cart....
  • 1 0
Pretty sure the camera man was with him and drove back down. Funny story is that the trail he took in the mule is a little fire road that runs parallel to the trail so you still have to hike a little haha.
  • 45 9
Wow, rich kid rides his bike down a dirt hill...very fucking exciting!
  • 15 4
Hey man, don't knock the two minute intro to show off what his parents bought him! Rolleyes
  • 9 5
Isn't the two minute intro actually to show off what his sponsors gave him?
  • 4 3
are you kidding me? this trail is sick
  • 3 0
yeah i'd be fuckin stoked to ride a this trail. I didnt know malibu really had any dh trails.
  • 6 2
A lot of the footage wasn't malibu....over the hill in another rich area. I shred those trails WAY harder than this kid, can poor people get sponsored too?
  • 3 0
I'm just mostly jealous of sunshine and warmness.
  • 1 1
To angrynipples..awesome joke on with malibu, props. And Im glad I'm not the only one who watched this vid and thought wow it be great to have my own mule to shuttle, that be fun...and then I saw the rest of the video and he found the speed up button on iMovie, congrats on that as well, trail looks fun for sure, but how did Aaron Gwin get so fast riding these CA trails?
  • 2 0
Wow, Jealous kid is sad he can't shred so he starts trolling on comment feed from his sad little basement in his moms house...Very f*ucking exciting!
  • 45 12
Why is this on the homepage?! Its really not that good. And this guy should should follow mike levy's tips and ride a short travel bike!
  • 16 5
its funny because he would actually be fine on an am/enduro bike...
  • 14 30

the trail's insane you didn't see all of it. def need a dh bike. yall are just angry that u can't ride right now...the name implies a dh bike its called sucidie
  • 17 2
on the section in the video he would've been fine....
  • 15 3
I too was wondering why this was on the homepage. great video and all, but not really home page material. Anyone can buy a pimp bike and camera and produce a somewhat decent edit
  • 3 8
flag dynamatt (Nov 28, 2012 at 16:11) (Below Threshold)
Only half the trail requires a dh bike. It's more fun on an enduro
  • 3 5
^^^^joshualovesmtb, this trail is a really fun ride with an all mountain bike. and super fun except for the 40 min hike
  • 4 3
Sorry gotta disagree with you. Unless you're hitting this trail at Gwin speeds a 5 or 6" travel is just fine on suicide. There are some techy sections but nothing THAT crazy.

No question this trail is for a dh bike ive seen tons of people ride it on short travel bikes and theyre all choking on my dust!! seen this kid ride he's actually got skills
  • 3 0
 where was that in malibu?

no comment.... This is my home trail i like to ride alone!!
  • 2 0
If you guys ever want an extra hand for trail maintenance I'm near by in Oxnard. PM me if you guys need help
  • 7 1
 See what you've done Levy?
Now there will be anarchy, and "serious" DHers trying to defend themselves.
  • 5 1
right on FTB f'n classic.... don't worry DH4life I live on the east coast...lmao
  • 3 2
Not sure what y'all are talkin bout... Sui is a full on 8 inch bike trail... definitely some heinous tech sections on it.
  • 5 0
Tech sections? What is tech on that trail?!?! Its one of my local trails and i love this trail but i wouldnt call it tech. Marshall absolutely slayed the "toughest" section on the trail and made it look easy, i will admit that
  • 14 1
Maybe you bunch of whinging bitches can buy him an AM bike so it does not offend your opinions and preconceptions of which bike people should be riding on certain trails. Get a life you bunch of miserable no life cunts,

FullTiltBoogie go post directions to your own trails u must have no life.. been riding this trail for 12 years if crappy riders didnt show up constantly and tear down all the big stuff that gets built on this trail u would barely get to the bottom on a trail bike
  • 9 0
First, they arent your trails! Just because you ride them all the time and build/maintain doesnt mean anything, although, Im sure the downhillers that ride that trail thank you for your efforts in keeping it ridable and fun.

Second, PM me for exact directions to my closest local trail in SLC: www.utahmountainbiking.com/UMBphpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9088

Or PM me for exact directions to the closest local trial from where I grew up in SoCal:
www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=XMR020-028

Isnt sharing fun?
  • 1 2
^ Hahaha, Arcylon... that's a cute trail... long climb first time up for a short reward but it's def. worth checking out.
  • 4 6
u guys r fags. but when i rode it on a 6 inch bike i at shit hard. more fun on a dh 4 sure. ya'll haven't prolly even ridden that shit so go suck a dick
  • 7 2
wow. i dont think that articles purpose was to let people constantly bitch about what bikes other people choose to ride. my buddy lives by this trail and rides with marshall and just told me yesterday that this video doesnt do the gnarliness of this trail justice, so who the hell are you to say that his bike is unecessary. now ill ride it this winter on my intense SS and judge that for myself, but for now how about you self righteous assholes get off the internet if all you can do is complain about the riding. Also, not only will my friend vouch for marshall's riding skills, but the fact that he has a number of sponsorships for his skill and dedication to the sport might well mean something. And FYI, all of this is coming from a guy who rides a shorter travel bike.
  • 4 0
 ride bikes
  • 1 0
 ^^
  • 3 1
Why is this on the homepage you ask? Because after years of hard work he got sponsored and is finally starting to live his dream; generally when you have sponsors you don't just sit around and eat potato chips, you make videos or do photo shoots to "Return the favor" and help the company grow as well. He was recently shipped a carbon stump jumper and has an SX which is one of his favorite bikes to ride; fact is he started the video on the demo so he finished the video on the demo. Oh and I don't see you on the homepage so how about you stop complaining and take you B*tchy attitude off the couch and go ride in hopes to achieve what he has.
  • 4 2
^ Whoa guys, you either got Marshall's biggest fan ever or the child agent's jimmies all rustled... careful now.
  • 22 0
Wow, anyone that has shoes that clean and rides dh, you have an un heard of climate to me... haha
  • 5 0
welcome to So-Cal. were lucky if we get like 8 inches of rain over a whole year...
  • 10 0
Yeah, you can tell it's a fall edit in SoCal because he had to reach for a T-shirt to warm up.. the tank top just wouldn't cut it on such a cold day.
  • 1 0
umm.. we got more in 12 hours this october =D
  • 1 0
8 inches of rain in a year? I was trapped in my home the other week because of floods haha
  • 1 0
It's reeeeeeally dry down there haha.
  • 19 0
Intro was so long that by the time he started riding the sun was setting
  • 18 5
These type of foo foo happy pony fuzzy to focus ooh ooh get the sunrise with dust in the air because we have this awesomely expensive camera vids make me want to stop watching vids of mountain biking. I feel like taking two giant rocks, one in each hand and smashing my penis between them. All my stuff is now for sale on the forums.
  • 6 0
 poor guy...
  • 8 0
Orangesicle...put those rocks down, you may not need that right now but some day you will find love
  • 3 0
really? from my perspective this video was just some good riding and a an appreciation for beautiful scenery.
  • 12 1
GRATUITOUS GOGGLE SELECTION SHOT. Must be rough...
  • 11 1
Its always riding season here in Cali!
  • 6 0
Well f*ck you for calling that autumn. In Sweden autumn is 3 °C and constantly raining.. That looked a warmer day then we get in the summer. Good shredding and filming though!
  • 1 0
Nobody si f*cking noone here. 3 C is perfekt ridingcondition! Love the English summer/fall were having now Big Grin
Came some snow down here yesterday though.
  • 7 3
We visited California for a hoilday in June, and I instantly wanted to move there! This state is amazing. Everything you could want all in one place. I can understand why so many Americans don't even have passports! You don't even need to leave this one state! We drove from LA up route 1 passing through Malibu, but, the bit you see from route 1 was a real hole! I couldn't believe it was so run down looking.. Isn't this where the stars have holiday homes? Or is there more than 1 Malibu? Or just a nicer part too it!?
  • 9 2
looks are deceiving. its really not that nice, theres just a couple really nice places. LA is a shit hole too
  • 5 4
Ya, I went down there in September. I fell in love with California, perfect climate even when it's 90 degrees outside, no sweating, clean and airid, not like muggy BC. I'm moving there.
  • 12 1
You are a MTBer and you are leaving BC???!!!

Dafuq?
  • 2 0
 Ditto to what briandiener said.
  • 7 0
agree with bombvoyage up here, I'll trade you BC for Cali anyday
  • 4 5
 yaa cali sucks
  • 3 0
enjoy the smog we'll keep enjoying the rainforest with the hundred year old trees and green lush ferns
  • 2 0
Not everybody loves the rainforest, sure it's pretty but I'd rather ride in a drier less tempermental climate, plus I've been here for 35 years and I can apprieciate other areas.
  • 2 2
 Cali sucks
  • 1 0
All the really nice homes are up in the hills on private land. Driving through without knowing what is in the hills does make it appear a sh*t hole though.
  • 1 0
Ah fair enough. To be honest, I was thinking I wanted to live in Canada for years, but the climate is a lot like UK, and well Cali you can ride all year round in a t-shirt! We went from LA, to Santa Cruz, SF, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Mammoth, LV, and back to LA. SO awesome, you can do everything. Unfortunately, I was with family and only got 1 days riding in at Mammoth Mountain, but even though it was pretty hot, it was still totally different to riding in UK in heat. Not sweaty and hot, but really nice. I'd move there in a heartbeat, but I'd also go for Canada BC somewhere if given the chance too.. I just imagine they have nasty Mosquitoes and bugs with that forest everywhere!
  • 10 4
After reading the short travel article... must... resist... criticizing. Awesome bike though.
  • 3 2
Yep 100% feeling that as well. Now whats he like on a hardtail?
  • 4 1
the GT video was filmed on the same trail thats in this vid, and the DH bikes seem pretty well warranted in that...
  • 2 2
eh I still don't think DH bikes are really necessary on that trail. However I'll admit it could go either way, I always ride it on my enduro and have a blast but I guess I could push a little harder on a few sections with a DH bike but would be a little slower on some of the wide open sections.
  • 1 0
 He's a straight boss on a hardtail...
  • 9 2
looks like this guys got some money cant be bad
  • 6 1
That trail isn't in Malibu haha, but good riding for that trail, makes me wanna go make that hike again sometime soon!
  • 6 1
That trail looked amazing...I want that trail in my life!!! Sick riding too!
  • 10 4
Some timid riding for such a sick rig.
  • 10 4
Your right... everyone I see on a demo rails like Hill no problems.
  • 1 0
 ahahah
  • 8 4
Everyone b*itching about the bike should probably ride the trail beforehand. It is perfectly suited for a dh bike...even the name of the trail would suggest it.
  • 3 0
So true...too bad you can't shuttle it.
  • 9 1
Suicide of one of the few trails in the LA area that actually puts a DH bike to use. just because the video didn't show every little rocky section in detail.... come on everyones just bitching because there was that whole article yesterday about not needing a downhill bike. The fact that everyone else actually has winters unlike so-cal probably doesn't help much either...
  • 3 0
@onesloryd seriously it would be a dream come true to be able to shuttle sui...

anyone got a helicopter? Razz
  • 2 0
@trailblazer-I wish...but with this talk about Sui think I am to ride it this weekend if its not too wet
  • 3 0
@onesloryd its definitely wet but not too bad. just hit it today. had a blast
  • 3 1
wow, what a really awful video. a 2 minute intro then a bunch of different angle shots of the same 3 corners in slo-mo. Im getting sick of saying this, but enough with all the 'kick the back wheel out in a berm to throw some dust up' shots. its been done to death and is bad use of the brakes in any case.
  • 1 0
Make a video showing us how it's done then.
  • 5 1
Grew up right below this trail. The best riding I have ever seen on suicide.
  • 7 6
Socal, home to kids whose parents dedicated to their careers trickle into guilt allowing for material goods to be bestowed upoun their children. A bike worth the budget of my first car, a off road cart, and camera gear, with no skills to back it. Easy come easy go kiddo.
  • 3 1
no skills huh? have you seen his other videos. bet you can dump 3 or tail whip
  • 3 0
So wheres your sponsors or videos making the homepage then?
  • 3 0
haha...emeryball is on it. where the f*ck are your sponsors? last i checked sponsorships dont get given out like candy...you have to earn that shit...and it's clear that he's done that. I know plenty of people who have spoken highly of his abilities as a builder and a rider, do you?
  • 5 1
BONK BREAKER...such a nice and smooth bike build in the intro...congrats man
  • 5 1
mmm tasty looking demo there!! and Question to the haters who pissed in your cherrios this morning ?
  • 4 1
 haha Thanks for that bud...
  • 5 1
That's not Malibu... that's Suicide Trail @ Agaura Hills...
  • 8 6
I have so many negative things to say about this video, that apparently deserves to be on the front page! Argh... I need to keep away from the computer for the next 8 hours!
  • 3 2
I agree. Plus, I have so much anger fueled by jealousy that I don’t want to be at work anymore (but that might always be true).
  • 3 3
Dang brah' from reading most of the comments they hate on you cause your a rich white boy, your private trail in Malibu, your buggy, your bike skills, your zoom in zoom out shots and your long ass intro.

Nice images but wrong edit

So I get the mule saves ur energy from pushing up ur bike but Dont u still have to go baack anyways to get it lol? guess Im lazy lol. Ph and was that a spez brand helmet? Cuz I liked it.
  • 1 0
When he isn't filming himself someone can drive down to get him but even from the mule trail you have to hike a little.
  • 1 0
ohhhhh. Either way thats a sweet way to shuttle.
  • 3 0
i really liked it..thought it was well done, quite professional...makes me want to ride & thats the point..
  • 3 0
The golf buggy got me so stoked
  • 1 0
Do you think he uses another buggy to go get the one he left at the top
  • 2 0
that would be pointless... Take a buggy to get a buggy? that leaves one at the top of the hill no matter what!
  • 4 0
Of course he doesn't drive a buggy back up there - he rides his Demo back up...

"that would be pointless... Take a buggy to get a buggy? that leaves one at the top of the hill no matter what!"

nice vid and sick ridin!

  • 4 2
If you think he is good on the demo 8 you should see him on his short travel SX!

I'm jealous, but not of the rider's skills...

If downhill was so smooth as many of the California trails are, more people would not be frightened to downhill. Not sure if this video advertises as an invitation to downhill, or mainstream bike video?

Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed that. I was fine with every other part of the video except that. If you're gonna make such gratuitous use of slowmo, either buy a higher frame rate camera or some software like Twixtor to fake it
