I just watched the replay of the juniors. Great racing, good to see Gwin back.
The camerawork was pathetic though. They didn’t even have the Stevie Smith drop in shot! Seriously. WTF.
  • 1 0
They mentioned early on in the broadcast that they were having some technical problems with some of the track cameras
  • 7 0
@mluk2004: I thought that was just in reference to the lack of timing at the time and the frequent shots of trees and clouds. The cameras just weren’t set up in the right place.

The shot was at the outside of the turn, where the drop is obscured by trees, so only the exit was captured. Not a technical issue.
  • 2 0
@Bperd: Let's hope they change it for finals, I thought they meant problems with cameras as there was a lot of switching to cameras early and waiting for the rider to come into shot during the juniors.
  • 5 0
@mluk2004: they’ve had “technical difficulties” all season.
  • 14 3
 Superbruni… die Maschine

 Yeah that's a big gap.

Troy and Loic found the mustard for their hotdogs today... Vali, Marine, and Nina found the hot sauce though.
  • 4 2
 Name checks out.

 @mountguitars: Not hotdog.

I think I like this format better than the actual broadcast. Less screaming Spaniards.

Kade Edwards just out there for Instagram. I mean we all love to watch the dude ride but he's not even taking the start line at these last few rounds.
  • 36 3
Honestly, I'm cool with it. Give me the clips and cargo bike jibs
  • 28 1
I mean, it works. I can’t tell you what brand most of the guys outside the like top 15-20 are riding for, but I know he’s on trek cuz he does cool things
  • 9 0
I don't know what happened today, but if you watch the Sleeper Collective edit from Snowshoe you'll see the slam into the tree that took him out.
  • 25 5
 And?

What a weird thing to hate about.

Race weekends are more interesting thanks to guys like Kade.
Riding bikes is fun, I’d give my left nut to be able to ride like Kade.
  • 6 4
Maybe Kade is out there to ride out what he contractually obligated to dom but has lost the love of racing?
Would have been awesome to have Kaos, and Kade out there for a final season together flipping jumps, flying flat, and blowing up every berm in sight!
  • 12 5
@bouldertom: It's a race series and he's not racing. I'm not hating on him at all. I just think it's pretty clear he's over it and won't be back at the races next year which might mean Trek can give his spot to someone hungry to compete.
  • 5 4
He's definitely not playing to win right now. Nobody else is throwing no handers mid race. I don't know if it's a matter of focus for him or if he's figured out he doesn't have top 15 speed or what. Maybe the dude should take a stab at Rampage. LOL!
  • 5 3
@onemanarmy: I don't get how you can say he's not playing to win when he's crashing a lot. He's trying for sure, there nos doubt about it. it's just his style is not made for racing
  • 5 1
@danielteleman: Easily. People don't throw tricks mid run or slap berms when they're trying to shave every second off their time. The dude is fast as hell. You're talking about a dude that was a junior world jump. Has nothing to do with his riding style not being conducive to speed. He will likely win hardline at some point. And I would not be surprised to see him getting top 10's and podiums and even wins at some point in DH. He has the speed. Dude's only 23.

But right now... yeah... I don't think he's fighting to win. But that's my opinion. And honestly I don't care. LOL! I love watching that dude ride.
  • 8 1
@onemanarmy: He is not throwing more tricks than most ryders on practice and have just made flashy jumps, wtc after a crash.

If you watch him in practice you'll see he's struggling. Since entering elite he's hovering around 20/30 position. This year he's trying to break into the top ten and he's crashing a lot, he's beating his head into a wall, literally, trying to figure it out how to go faster and failing miserably.

Saying he's not fighting to go faster does no make any sense, no ryder wants to crash on purpose, and he's crashing a lot.
  • 5 1
@danielteleman: He'll get it. He may just need a fresh start. Some sort of change. Dude's only 23.

He would not be on Trek's factory team if he wasn't capable. Top 25 is immensely difficult. Doing it consistently is even more difficult. Moving from 25-10 is insanely difficult. Moving from 10 to podium then again.

I'm completely confident that the dude will be fighting for top 10's very soon.

He reminds me of Kerr where his style is very very fast but also at a high risk of losing very important sections in portions of the track.

All of these guys are trying to be the best they can be.

Again... not knocking the dude. I love watching him ride. One of my favorites out there. Just like I love watching Kerr or Gee ride. Or even Greenland or any of these other dudes that are on the edge. And it's even better when they find the line and dial back 2% and that turns Into podium speed.

Yeah... I'll retract my statement. Thanks for clearing that up for me. LOL!

Clearly these dudes are all searching for speed.

But I do think a little refocus will go a long long way for him.
  • 2 0
I bet next year he will be following Kaos steps and do freeride only, it wouldn't be surprising for trek to support him
  • 2 0
Kade is fast but compared to the TOP boys, he's nowhere near and never has been. That's the difference between a really, really good rider, and an elite level racer.
  • 2 0
@onemanarmy: He usually does no handers if he crashes, not if he's on a good run. Give him a break.
I honestly don't care how he does, I just want to see him ride Razz
  • 12 1
On the latest Inside The Tape Cathro said Kade was "banned from qualifying due to contractual obligations". Anyone got more info on this?
  • 1 0
@commental: same on Master's youtube vid
  • 8 1
Nice run for Luca! On the box tomorrow!
  • 8 1
 Ben Cathro a DNS?

Hope he hasn't injured himself again.
  • 3 0
He said on Instagram that he doesn't feel well since yesterday and therefore didn't start to risk an injury.
  • 5 0
Picked up a bug. Nothing serious - says he's videoing instead
  • 1 0
@thingswelike: There's a nasty strain going around these parts right now. Hope Ben gets well!
  • 5 0
Oooh tropical storm incoming, this is going to be a slop battle on some of those sweet looking new sections.
  • 3 0
Looks like only a few mm of rain before / during the race. The bulk of the rain is forecast for after the race.
  • 2 0
Maybe a few of the big names sandbagging? Greenland, Dunne, Iles, Williamson all looking a bit slower than usual
  • 4 0
@HankHank: Yeah I thought that at first, but it doesn't make much sense with the semi's. Their result in the semi's determines the finals start order. They'd also have to tank in the semi's.
  • 4 0
@workingclasswhore: ahhhhh I forgot about the semis! I hate the semis!
  • 4 0
@HankHank: Dunne had a ridiculously massive crash based on his Instagram, would assume something similar with Iles (or a flat/ technical issues), them both being that far behind and with a massive time gap compared to others within one section.
  • 5 0
@HankHank: BK was saying he's doing wet lines all week in prep for the race- wonder if that's true for a few people.
  • 5 0
@HankHank: williamson flatted. Laurie ripped his rear derailleur off
  • 4 0
@bgoldstone: thanks everyone for the nuggets of information, where would we be without Pinkbike....
  • 2 0
@HankHank: without PB comment section, actually Razz
  • 5 0
I know Finn is protected but not so sure about Ronan
  • 4 0
Ronan's got a P on the start list
  • 48 0
Sorry, that was meant to read:
Ronan's got a f****** P on the f****** start list.
  • 17 0
 @Maxcommencemal:

No the way we do it is more like:

Ronan's f***ing got a P on the start f***ing list.

You basically need to get the first one out of your system as soon as possible and hope you make it to the end of the sentence before accidentally slipping in another f***ing one.
  • 5 0
Come on Troy, win one of these things.
  • 4 0
what happened to Finn? Must have had a crash?
  • 4 0
He must've. It must have happened in the second split, but he also lost 20sec in the 4th split. Good thing he's protected. I hope he's all right though.
  • 6 0
 @Fill-Freakin: probably a flat
  • 6 0
2nd at first split.... he's in the mix! Fingers crossed for him tomorrow.
  • 2 0
@mestapho Top 60 plus any protected riders who qualify outside of the top 60 advance to the semi's.
Top 30 plus any protected riders advance to the finals.
  • 4 0
CHECK OUT DA BIG P ON DAK
  • 4 0
Troy’s going to win this one
  • 1 0
depending on weather starting early could be a massive advantage, finn ronan and some fast riders will start early? not sure if i have that right.
  • 5 0
Protected riders like Finn and Ronan get put towards the bottom of the start order regardless of where the finish in quali’s
  • 2 0
@bgoldstone: ok thanks for that info
  • 4 1
man Ronan was on one and now not might make it through
  • 6 0
 nvm. he's protected
  • 3 0
Danny Hart has looked super fast all week, my money is on him.
  • 3 0
 Do they stream qualis?
  • 3 0
 No, only Semis and Finals.
  • 14 4
No but they should. Stream Qualification for free. Scrap semis. It has completely ruined the excitement of that 1 run for me.
  • 5 0
@thewho07: Considering what an absolute shitshow the camera direction is during juniors when the early starters go on track with like 1 minute gaps, I don't think qualis would make any good watching. It would be confusing as hell with riders starting at ~45 second intervals.
  • 3 0
@thewho07: this. Who has time to watch the semis and the finals. And another racerun just means a higher risk to crash
  • 2 0
Tristan Lemire is majong the semi-finals!
  • 2 0
Too 30 or 60 get to race semi’s?
  • 1 0
 Top 60
  • 3 0
Top 60 plus any protected riders who qualify outside of the top 60 advance to the semi's. Top 30 plus any protected riders advance to the finals.
  • 1 0
Anyone know the ins and outs of why qualification and semis don't earn points for this race?
  • 5 0
If I remember correctly - and I may not be - I believe that it's set up that way for the last race of the season so that the overall title isn't determined before the race even starts.
  • 1 0
I think it’s 0, only finals count per the previous article that pinkbike put out on who can still win the overall
  • 4 0
@MarcusBrody: It makes sense to not have the overall determined before the final run, but then get rid of the semis - there's no point if there's no points.
  • 2 0
@Fill-Freakin: I don't disagree; I just believe that is the logic.
  • 2 0
Go on Ethan, get that podium!
  • 2 0
 Loic is a beast!
  • 1 0
Hope to see Lauren smith commentating
  • 1 0
Tired of Bruni... bring us another overall champion! C'mon Vergier!!!
  • 1 2
Some great women racers won't be in the final. More money and more fun in the Crankworx series.
  • 7 0
 Like who?
  • 1 0
 Froth?
  • 2 0
 He’s a junior.
