Florian Nicolaï is one of the most creative riders on the EWS circuit. His unique style threatens the podium at every race he enters. The Maritime Alps are home to some of the most technical tracks in the world, and working on this project over the winter showed us just how good Flo really is.

bigquotesFlo is a weirdly fast alien on a bike. He's got creative trail vision and is one of the first riders coming up to have started out as a pure Enduro racer. Even after two strong EWS seasons taking 5th and 4th place overall, you get the feeling he's hungry for more. Can't wait to see how this season unfolds. - Brian Park, Rocky Mountain Bicycles

bigquotesFlo is insane. I don't understand half the stuff that he does, but it's fun to watch! - Jesse Melamed, Rally Team teammate

bigquotesThis part of the world is the birthplace of Enduro. The Maritime Alps have produced some of the best riders on the planet, like Nico Vouilloz, Fabien Barel, Loic Bruni, and many others. The terrain and the culture make the difference - the trails have been here for centuries and were not made to ride, but to walk. So when you can find the flow here you're a damn good rider. - Fred Glo, Godfather of Enduro and Owner of Urge bp

Watch for Flo and the rest of our Rally Team throughout the entire Enduro World Series season. See you on track!

I live in Nice. I ride those trails often, the way it looks easy for those guys is insane. When you go past a rock garden your ass on the back wheel, he just jumps all of it, and with style ????

It's the Altitude man, nothing more. Skill is so overrated these days...
  • 16 0
I've ridden some of these trails with him, and as always the camera masks a lot of the detail. He is doing nose pivots while going faster than most riders can handle, pulling manuals in switchbacks and rock gardens where even decent riders might need to put a foot down... It's all so effortless for him, a whole other level.

It's funny, he's so fast and stylish yet rides with his elbows down and body upright rather than elbows out and body flat like coaches everywhere tell us NOT to do. Proof that there's no "correct" way to ride. Skill is skill.

He's throwing that Altitude around mid trail all over. He makes that bike look twice as light as it is. Hats off to you, Mr. Nicolai.

@witica what coaches are you working with? Perhaps they need an update.... different things are taught to different level of riders. We also have unique shapes and statures, from one rider to the next. What is good for a beginner or intermediate to focus on, as they are probably still searching for stability and balance point, might not be most efficient for elite level rider who has these points on lock down.

Florian Nicolai, my favorite rider. Rocky Mountain, my favorite bikes.

So... is it now more Enduro to wear tinted glasses than it is to wear goggles?

@Uuno "You think that's air you are breathing now?"
Awesome style!

Just picked up a new carbon altitude the other day...looking forward to riding like this Wink

That tire slide thing at 2:08 was absurd.
  • 30 0
The thread-the-needle rock gap at 2:52 and the weird tree nose pivot wiggle thing at 2:58 had us so confused.
  • 3 0
100% agree with the tree nose wiggle thing. I've watched that part over and over and it's like a crazy misdirection play. Even fooled the camera man.

The creativity is amazing. Makes me wonder if he thinks of what he will do in advance or if these are just organic, instinctive moves.

 Beyond control.

was waiting for a solo feature on florian nicolai for a very long time
@RockyMountainBicycles you should do more vids with him - SOON! ;-)

this is the motion picture testament of my lack of riding skills. very impressive to watch and at the same time i am more then confused how i should ever be able to do about 10% of what is done in the vid on my bike.
  • 2 0
Yup! I love seeing videos of people riding my bike, makes me remember that it's not the bike's fault that I suck Big Grin

That cat puts the funk in the flow... The George Clinton of enduro

This is his everyday riding style too, he comes up with even crazier stuff when practicing the EWS stages blind. Such a damn good rider.

I really like to compare Flo with Albert Einstein. As Albert was the greatest physicist of the all history, Flo is a f*ck'n genious on his bike and also, such a weirdo hahahaha!!
When you see him riding you just "watch and learn".
This was great Flo and we all want to see more hahaaaaaaa.

 2:04 almost lost his chain
  • 3 0

The 5th picture just destroy the "2015 photo of the year"
  • 4 0
Love that 7th pic as well. For anyone else, that would be the shot just before your arse hits the ground; but you know he just flowed out of that. Crazy skills.

Love watching these guys ride, looks so effortless. If I tried riding like that I'd be in hospital within seconds.
  • 1 0
I keep doing that thing he does in the trees on the front wheel but over rotate. 100% of the time every time.

Props to the photographer / camera crew !! great riding too. really motivated me!

 thanks @patbikeco Wink

Brilliant film, great riding, breathtaking scenery, soundtrack needs rethinking though, i dont think it married well with the feel of the visuals.

When I scroll the large pics down, it looks like the objects in the images are moving. Am I losing it?!
  • 2 0
Thank you! Thought I was losing it too Big Grin

Racing performance meets style, and the result is this man's riding. Terrain looks very similar to Greek mountains (it's the Med after all) and floating so effortlessly on trails like these means his skills are simply off the chart! He already was my favourite rider from the EWS videos, but now... more please!
  • 6 1
Just remind me to never buy that helmet hahaha
  • 4 0
That's exactly how I ride If I rode way faster, had way more skill and had better fitness.
  • 1 0
Me too! I can get my tyres to wash like that a shitload, thing is they keep washin!
  • 2 0
Bike and trails are the same!
Rocky Mountain! (bike and trail, literally)

Plus wicked riding skills!
Makes me want to ride right now, too bad its not yet the weekend :-)

French lines all over the place

This Flo just wants to shred, Progressive should hire him to sell car insurance (instead of the annoying bitch they have now).
  • 2 0
Loose and Smooth at the same time .... love it!
  • 1 0
I think he just became one of my favourite riders to watch... that drift at 1:25 tho!

Our french riders are overskilled that's insane ! Pretty sure there is the mojo of MTB out there in south of France (E.T, barel, bruni, vergier etc. etc.)
