PRESS RELEASE: Commencal

With information exceptionally thin on the ground, we're going to have to keep staring at the photos for a little while longer until Commencal releases the full details of their new bike.

Not one but two photos of the bottle cage mounts...happy now?
  • 28 0
Imagine my surprise when I discovered TWO bottle mounts under the TT of my 2018 Slash - in addition to the one on the DT. What a time to be alive!
  • 6 0
@sngltrkmnd: they aren't bottle cage mounts
  • 13 0
@shearny: dont be so closed minded Wink
  • 2 5
Not happy, my copyright lawyer will be in touch.
  • 1 0
It looks like a second bottle can be mounted under the downtube as well, where the rock guard is.
  • 2 0
 Wow!
2 of them.
Let's party:

@sngltrkmnd: they are there for products like wolf tooth's B-Rad system or a bottle cage mounted pump or other tools! So clean

Total water bottle storage space porn
  • 2 0
@mtbracer4098: Nice find - thanks! I was pretty sure they couldn't be for bottles - the clearance inside the triangle is too tight for even YT's sippy cup. I was imagining a spiffy "enduro" product - cool to see Wolf Tooth is doing it. Have an upvote!

 No gearbox? No thanks!
  • 2 0
@sngltrkmnd: is that what those are for
  • 1 0
@flyr: Yes. Funny Trek nor bike reviews don't make mention of this feature (that I've seen)
  • 30 3
The wet-frame photos are an interesting choice in my opinion.
I’m sure it’s been done before but this is the first i’m seeing it, and i’m thinking it’s not a bad idea (:
By making people notice that, they look more intently, high draws your eyes to the details.
Not too shabby Commencal (:

Also, such a great looking bike!

if it works for cilantro in the produce section i reckon it works for everything
  • 2 1
Yeah... That black and gold theme, with those graphics... That bike is attractive as heck.
  • 3 2
@mtbikeaddict: the phrase youre searching for is "attractive as hell" its ok to say it, it doesnt mean youre going there...
  • 1 0
 I call him... Golden Boy.
  • 1 0
the "wet look" is used in a lot of real estate photography, and a lot of movies have wet sidewalks/streets in the backround. something about reflecting the light better....
  • 5 0
Certain T-shirts also look good when wet.
  • 28 1
black fork would look ten fold.
  • 25 0
 I like Commencal!
  • 21 1
I still believe, those 29ers just exist, so that those Eagle cassettes don't look so ridiculously huge... Just kidding! What a great bike! I'd love to try it out.
  • 11 0
Plus it's the only way to avoid scraping that derailleur cage on every pebble.
  • 15 2
FUCKING A COMMENCAL!!!! Should be a hell of a 29er line up with great pricing. Really dig the tan paint. I know who is getting my money in a few months.

@YouHadMeAtDrugs: Yup, I just wrote this below. (I think it's all good though, people just need to relax). I've been on the HT for many rides, and it's the first time (ever) that I've experienced such a beast bike that felt XC on the climbs (super nimble and responsive) and super capable on the downs (beast mode) without feeling monster truck. My feeling was that every bike company would copy the hightower lt, which is just fine. That's why I was wondering the travel on this Meta front and rear? 150, 150 - anyone guess?
  • 2 0
@ryanm189: I wouldnt be supprised if they did a 10 or 20mm split like they have on their other metas. Something like 170mm front 150mm in the back.
  • 3 1
 @JPostuk: That fork is def not a 170. I say 150 f, 140 r. Perfect 9er.
  • 15 2
Gotta say, the desert camo looks pretty sick
  • 11 0
 Looks like it smells good
  • 19 10
Doesn’t come with water bottle cage, Im gonna go ride my klien mantra. . . Ill be back when bike manufacturers are serious.
  • 3 2
my specialized came with a cage installed

Don't be daft. If you want a bottle cage, buy a bottle cage and bolt it to the downtube. I'd take pedals over a bottle cage anyday but you see me complain? These cranks come with provisions to mount pedals, there is nothing stopping people from bolting pedals on there.

In the year of the big travel 29er.
  • 6 0
That bike along with two water bottle mounts brings MC Hammer's '2 Legit 2 Quit' to mind.
  • 2 0
 Props for MC Hammer reference
  • 6 1
I hope it is at Sea Otter this week.
  • 1 0
 Should be!
  • 2 0
The new stumpy that looks like a Rallon will...
  • 2 0
Oh hell yeah. This is going to be sweet. Notice the internal cable routing for a shock remote? Kinda cool. I hope the high-end version is raw alloy with orange Fox SLS spring and 36
  • 2 0
Can you pick one up in Golden to avoid shipping charge?
  • 1 0
@dthomp325: they have free shipping to the u.s. in bikes i believe
  • 1 0
@dthomp325: nope, has to be a yeti
  • 1 0
All Meta 4.2s have shock remote internal cable routing, even the Meta TR. I believe Ravanel uses a remote on her coil shock.
  • 1 0
You can build Commencals A La Carte: choose what you will at close to oem spec price.
  • 4 0
Ooofff! Literally just about to pull the trigger on a YT. Please make available this week...

Yes same here. Looking at a Capra. This does not look like its as capable as the Capra.
  • 1 0
Heard they are coming out in August.
  • 1 0
Looks like new cable routing above the bb. I just got the 4.2 and the routing is a bit cleaner over my housemates v4. This new way would eliminate the cable bend under the main pivot and the need for the clamp. Also added cable holes at the top tube means Australians like me can run their brake cables much cleaner! To bad the 29er wasn’t available 2 months ago
  • 1 0
NSFW. I knew I was tasting the future when I built my five29 a "bit on the heavy side"

I love how the shock is inline with the toptube and "seat stays", but how would that change if you bought an XXL?
masses of seat-tube/top-tube-interface-swoop?
  • 9 5
Does it climb like a XC and go down like a DH ?
  • 25 1
Don't think we ever had bikes that climb like a DH and go down like a XC. Bike brands, what are you waiting ?
  • 3 2
 @vweb: me gusta
  • 6 5
I'm not sure why someone down voted you? Whatever. Good question. I've ridden Santa Cruz's Hightower LT and as crazy as it sounds the bike is incredibly nimble (XC feeling) on the climbs, and super beast on the downs (without feeling like a monster truck). I could get hated for saying this, but I think EVERY bike company this year will copy the Hightower LT from SC, which is what I'm wondering this new rip from Commencal is?
  • 2 1
It's definitely a trail weapon goat on speed.
  • 1 0
@vweb: the thing is, that's what bikes have evolved from.
  • 2 0
@vweb: don't know about the bikes, but that sounds like me at the beginning of the year.
  • 1 0
 @vweb: rigid fat bikes?
  • 2 0
@ryanm189: Hightower LT needs more travel. I want a SC but I need a 29er Nomad, something like the capra.
  • 4 1
The bike looks pretty sick, but I'm not really into the tan color scheme...
  • 1 0
Commencals tend to have multiple colours, particularly for the Metas. The AM 4.2 has black, anodized black, brushed (+NZ and WC variant), orange, red, BC edition, and Gun Metal, and that's just for 2018.
  • 1 0
@rezrov: The 2018 low spec "origin" models also come in a sweet light orange "mango" color.
  • 4 0
Interesting how the seat tube has a large bend compared to a 27.5 version.
  • 2 0
Same thought here, I wonder how the longer dropper posts will fit.
  • 3 0
@asboites: Seatposts could never to past the pivot as the bolt went through the seat tube.
  • 1 0
My first thought was disappointing, not interesting, but let's wait for the numbers.
  • 5 1
Just over here sweating like a riled up fangirl.
  • 7 3
Too bad it will be pressfit ...
  • 9 3
And have a horrible axle snapping, shock wearing super flexi rear end, that may not even be very straight.
  • 3 1
@StevieJB: Not sure why you were down voted, this is a real problem.
  • 1 0
@cdmbmw: What seems to be the problem?
  • 1 0
@StevieJB: Wonder if the back tyre will hit the seat tube under compression as per the am29 v3 also?
  • 1 0
@mcozzy: SC hightower does that too!
  • 1 2
It would be a bike I consider, were it not for the pressfit BB...
  • 2 0
@MrEtnie: press fit isn't as bad as some make it out to be. I've had a V4 for 2 years now and still the same BB with no creaks. I think the biggest problem is jamming 30mm spindles on them. Go 24mm.
  • 1 1
@inverted180: I had huge trouble with a Capra. Went through 3 frames because of it. All warranty, but still not touching this with a ten-food-pole. Wink
  • 3 2
This bike is going to rip!! And it’s going to be a great price point for people to get into the long travel 29er enduro bike realm.
  • 3 0
 Ohhhhhhh lalala water bottle mounts
  • 3 0
It looks enduro specific, will there be an AM or slack country version?
  • 2 1
Something about this bike I love. Looks "fun" for some reason.

Are those the gravity version of those tires? Sidewalls looks burly.
  • 2 0
Umm, What is the proper way to pronounce Commencal ? I think I say it wrong.
  • 3 0
The second c is soft I think...so Commensal?
  • 2 0
@alexhyland: so if you say it twice it's Commensal Sommensal.
  • 1 0
 @rrolly: yes that's the rule. Once you've softened a C there's no going back.
  • 1 0
@alexhyland: it's Commençal. The wiggly bit under the second c is what makes it soft.
  • 3 0
Hey! They stole the ugly Nomad color.
  • 2 0
Looks better in person, i swear...
  • 2 0
What were the odds on someone ripping off the colour scheme from the Intense ACV?!
  • 3 1
if it rides better than the 27.5 meta i'm in. Savage bike.
  • 3 0
How does the 27.5 ride? Do you recomend it?
  • 4 1
@tomasyr: been on one since 2016 its superb. Handles everything in Ireland with ease. I've had it in Finale and Les Arc also with no issues.
  • 2 0
@bobtjustice: Great!!! i hope they put this color into the 27.5!!!
  • 4 0
@bobtjustice: I second that. The only nitpick I have about my 17 Meta is that it isn´t the best climber (compared to my previous Bronson) due to weight and seat angle, BUT what a beast once you point it downwards
  • 3 1
Nice colors ! I was getting sick of the fluo colors ! (y)
  • 2 0
I'm not a fan of the bright green or yellow fluorescents, but I just cannot get into putting tan on a bike. It reminds me of my older brother's room in the seventies. Horrid tans and browns. ug, I can still smell his armpit of a bedroom.
  • 3 1
I don't know what it is, but I want it.
  • 2 1
Will the red commencal decals at the back be orange, if mounted with an ugly orange Fox factory fork ? Smile
  • 2 1
Take my money...I'm already having visions of divorce papers in my head..ahaha
  • 1 0
I wonder how the TR 29er will be like? 140 front 130 rear and I’m praying this is 160 front 150 rear
  • 2 0
I may be looking at my next bike...
  • 2 0
Oh why do you tease me so Commencal!!!! Release the hounds already!!!!
