PRESS RELEASE: Industry Nine

We could not be more excited to announce that Yoann Barelli is now a part of the i9 Family!

bigquotesIt was an instant match! The integrity and uniqueness of I9’s products had me hooked! I love that the products are made in North America! The vibe of the brand makes me want to ride hard and fast! Such a rad team - I’m pumped!Yoann Barelli

bigquotesThis year we wanted to put together a dream team of athletes that embody what we're about - from the riding, to their attitudes on life, and their interests and passions off the bike. When Yoann reached out about working together, that was the cherry on top! We are so excited at the opportunity to work with Yoann and his infectious personality, reminding us of why we ride bikes in the first place. He naturally fits in with the i9 company culture for who he is and that he is all about sharing his passion. Paired with our friends and long-time partners over at Guerilla Gravity - this is going to be an awesome year! Excited to get this party started!Burke Saunders - Athlete Liaison, i9

Yoann doin' his thing - #smilesformiles

bigquotesWhat's exciting to me is the outlook and mission Yoann brings to Industry Nine... Not only the 'marquee name everyone knows, loves and respects,' but also the inspiration to think in environmental terms as a driving principle. Whether reassessing our packaging, post-manufacturing materials we send to recycling, or minimizing waste and maximizing re-use and recycling amongst our staff, having Yoann on board makes us want to do better knowing we're also representing his mission of sustainability.David Thomas - Sales and Marketing Director, i9

Yoann will have full access to Industry Nine's renowned spectrum of wheelsets and stems. From the race-ready Ultralite range to the Rampage-proven Grade family, each wheelset in the i9 line-up is engineered to deliver uncompromising performance.

Welcome to The Family, Yoann!

I wonder if it gets tiring to have "on" be part of your media personality to the point where you have to be "on" all the time. I know he's naturally more on than most people, but I wonder if he gets tired of being expected to be always on.

His positivity and joy are infectious. I hope that he always has as much fun as he appears to be having.

His contract must include an incentive for World Wide Web appearances.

This reminds me of a concert I went to, probably 10-15 years ago...

The Cure was headlining and went on stage right after The Killers. This was back during peak Killers, and they put on an amazing, high performance show (should have been closing act). Cure gets up and you can tell they would rather be doing anything besides playing music. Their rendition of Friday I'm in Love was about the saddest thing I've ever seen.

At first I felt bad for them, they must have played that one song thousands of times! But then I remembered I look at excel spreadsheets and sit through unproductive meetings all day and still show up with a smile and at least some pride in what I do. They have hundreds of thousands of cheering fans that actively pay them money to see them sing and they still can't do it with a little energy and pride.

Which is a roundabout way to say that from what I know about Yoann (I know nothing about him!) he strikes me as a guy who takes pride in what he does. I'll bet he'd give you this level of energy if he was your plumber or your mayor, and definitely wouldn't half ass a version of Friday I'm in Love.

(Yoann if you're reading, Into the Gnar could also be a good name for a plumbing show if you change careers).

i know where you are coming from exlpodo, but yoanns hype is very genuine

@OCSunDevil: was this by chance in vegas? i think i was at this same show. and i felt exactly the same way.

 Ask Tippie?
  • 5 3
@OCSunDevil: No, it’s because Friday I’m in love is shit and they know it. Rob Smith is well known for making sure he plays a long show so everyone gets to hear the song they came to see. I have seen them play and I found the show to be amazing. Sorry but I just think that this is a bad example of someone not trying hard enough to please a crowd.

 Brett Tippie says - nope!

Maybe that's just the way he is, some folks are just happy people, I suspect that's the case with Yoann.

The first person I9 has sponsored who's louder than their wheels. Great company and great dude!

On the flip side, I'm pretty sure he is always like that and they used to just cut it out of videos...

@OCSunDevil: The Cure is one of the most incredible live bands of the last few decades. I have seen them 4 times and every one was a a 10/10 performance. You are mistaking their brooding/serious nature for not caring. I have to think you don't understand them at all. They play intense 3-4 hour shows and do everything possible to please their fans. Did you know The Cure were the first band The Killers' singer ever saw and he has said he was "converted and baptised".

People confuse extrovert/introvert with social cues; the reality is extroverts feed off the public energy and actually get stronger the more they engage with their environment. Introverts like myself can be very social and have strong public personas, but it is exhausting. I always wondered the same as you when it came to Robin Williams, plus he used a lot of coke. I'll give Yoann the benefit of the doubt and say he's high on life.

Was wondering the same thing the other day. When I was a waiter I used to get home and be absolutely exhausted from pretending to be happy and cheery the whole day, I remember my cheeks used to hurt from all the fake smiling.

Yoan's "on" looks pretty genuine though... I don't think anyone can keep up that level of stoke if it isn't real.
  • 2 0
@Rig: My cheeks used to hurt from all the true grimacing.
  • 1 0
@Rig: true enough, but we all get tired, it’s tough keeping up your spirit unless you have good things in your life.

He’s a funny guy with a positive vibe, I always feel happier after watching one if his videos: happiness is contagious, never doubt that.

I agree, he must have been a handful for all of them. His antics make you smile and his skills make me want to be a better rider.

Love it. When I was a kid riding my bike I made the same dirt bike sounds. When I got my first dirt bike, going up and down the driveway making the same sounds. My Dad stops me and is laughing his ass off and says " Son, you don't need to make the dirt bike sounds anymore". I didn't even realize I was doing it. I sometimes will still make those cool noises when riding my Mtb bike. Thanks for the good times Dad!!

I9 to Yoann - be quiet every once in a while so the people can hear our hubs.

I9 to Red Bull - could you dub our hub noise over every rider?
