Redefining our categories:
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of our new bikes we have to define what these bikes are for. Everyone loves to attach a label to their bikes and put them into categories. Trail, all mountain, enduro, freeride, cross country, down country... So why fight it? In our new lineup, every model is unique, but they are all in the same category. These are mountain bikes designed for going...

About Giddyup Suspension:

Transition GiddyUp Bikes Press Release Images

When we set out to design the new family of bikes, we wanted to improve our suspension pedaling and braking performance, but we didn't want to lose the neutral and comfortable feel that Transition Bikes are known for. No one at Transition wanted a suspension system that felt like it was locking out, or provided any "kick back" in the pedals. We also wanted to maintain the lively feel that makes a Transition fun and easy to ride. Our Giddy Up link is carefully tuned with just the right amount of chainstay growth at all points in the travel. The chainstay growth is highest near sag to keep you moving forward when you get on the gas. but it decreases deeper in the travel so you never feel the drivetrain fighting the suspension. Hop on a Giddy Up bike and you will feel at home immediately. Lively when you pedal, smooth in the rough stuff, and ready to boost off any kicker in the trail.

Our new models are designed to be active while climbing; increased compression damping or lockout settings are strictly optional with the Giddy Up link. With the shock open, the suspension remains free to smooth out the trail, improve traction and control without sacrificing efficiency. There is no need to think about flipping switches; you can start your ride with the shock open and leave it there. With Giddy Up you can focus on the trail, not your remotes, levers or knobs. Just grab your bike, Giddy Up and go.

Design and Features:

And I should f*ck off when I praise what they did in this particular case? You're pretty twisted in there aren't you...

Thanks Transition for doing things right! 73mm BB, clean lines, 26in/27.5 options, and keeping it real! Bikes designed by riders for riders. Still rocking my BottleRocket and looking to get into a Patrol possibly next season (will be keeping my BR though). Have one question, what is the patrols and suppressors shock eye to eye and stroke?
  • 2 1
Also want to know this. Bought a CCDBA for my Covert and want to know if I can keep it as I only got three rides it before ending my season with a smashed thumb. Frown

I hope I don't get any neg comments for this, but all these companies say they've done they're own R&D on their own bikes, which I fully respect, but how come the finished product all looks like carbon copies of each other? What R&D actually went into it? What sets them apart from each other aside from colour options? The specs and component list all seem very similar.

Hope you don't mind the name drop, but I'm talking Trek Remedy/Slash, Ghost AMR/Cagua, Norco Sight/Range and the redesigned Transition (models listed in the article above). They all look the same.

Again, please understand I'm not trying to troll or piss anyone off. Can someone shed some light on this for me please?
  • 33 3
Maybe all the R&D Leads them to the conclusion that this suspension design is best?
  • 26 0
It is basically an FSR design. Expect more now the patent has lapsed. Norco had it under licence from Spesh for a while. Looking the same as something doesnt mean it is, its about pivot placement, how the suspension reacts to different hits and so on. The transition bikes look good, no idea how they compare to any others that look equally as good. As for the component list being similar - well its either SRAM or Shimano, RS or Fox, Raceface or Truvativ etc - there are only so many variations on good quality kit that works well and price points to hit target markets.
  • 5 3
can someone explain how the spesh fsr design is so similar to this it uses the same patent? Spesh leaves the shock horizontal on all frame designs and has a very tiny linkage, looks almost nothing like this? Especially they early y-frames that started fsr... This design looks more similar to giant maestro if anything, how is that not infringing on a "patented design"?
  • 3 0
 @ xjrides check this out
www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=146074&pagenum=1

there is a pivot point on the swingarm just in front of the rear axle whereas in giant, there are two pivots point close to the BB
  • 15 1
It's not about looks its about pivot placement and function. You can make something look similar, but function completely different without infringing on patent.... but when you are functionally the same (or similar enough for patent law), even looking different won't keep you out of trouble.
  • 8 0
As far as having so many bikes aesthetically similar, a large part of that is companies trying to leave room for a water bottle in the front triangle. Having the shock vertical in front of the seat tube is one of few ways to do that and maintain a low top tube. If room for a water bottle is needed or not is another question.
  • 5 0
Specialized's patent did not cover shock orientation but was more about the suspension pivots. If you look at Transition's earlier designs, one of the pivots was on the seat stay- now has been moved to the chain stay. First thing I noticed was how similar the giddy up layout was to Specialized between '06 and '10. Google 'specialized pitch' and see fir yourself.
  • 3 0
giddy up has kicked cocknballs tech?! tr never taken it too serious but still always legit
  • 1 0
Agreed. had a pitch 08 and it's the only bike I remember looking like this. I guess the chain stay pivot + seat tube rocker are the key aspects. I've got a reign now and that patrol looks like my next bike, maybe if a carbon comes out next
  • 1 3
Mickmart, the reason for so many bikes looking similar is that most high end aluminum frames come from just a few Asian manufacturers. These manufacturers provide more than just assembly, they have full design and engineering departments. Small companies (like Transition) have a limited budget, so they collaborate with the manufacturers design department. This saves money by utilizing the Asian manufacturers tried and tested processes and lower salaries. As an example, different clients hiring the same architect will likely end up with similar styled buildings, even if each client has different goals.

Hay - Transition never horses around and has always made some stable rides and will keep on being my mane company.
  • 6 0
They could have gone with a 4-bar linkage, but say "Nayyyyyyyyyyy"
  • 16 1
It seems like most of the companies are somehow converging into the same suspention-methods & geometry number in total, not that there's anything wrong with that it's just seems a bit boring that's all. Besides, I love transition no metter what they'll do - Cock&balls4life

Next year I'm either on a Kona Process 167 or Trany Suppressor!
  • 7 0
These look so sweet. Raucous, fun-loving things. Threaded bottom bracket too! Bucking trends in order to make a better bike for the rider? H*ll yes! Transition for bicycle company of the year!
  • 5 0
Thanks for retaining 26"! But please give me/us a 180mm travel front and rear bike. They don't weigh any more than 150-160mm and they pedal just as well thanks to shock tech so why not?

Right now the only option with the long and slack geometry and air suspension that I want is a 2015 Cube Fritzz 180. Please bring more bikes like this to the NA market.
  • 2 1
 amen to that!
  • 6 0
A note to all the folks who appreciate the 26" suppressor... we gotta buy them or they won't be around next year. Everyone I have talked to is way more excited about the Patrol. And so it goes.
  • 7 0
Ok, now they have my attention. Threaded bottom bracket on Suppressor page. Yesssss....

 26" thanks!

It seems like in the first 40 seconds of the video they are retards, then for the next 2 minutes they were doing all these cool things that they didn't actually know what it was all called, nice vid though. just taking the piss Wink
  • 3 0
hmmm so kona process 111 to go along with my honzo or sell the honzo and go with a smuggler and the trans am
  • 3 1
Not sure why people don't like Transition? Solid bikes, not overly fancy, light, or carboned out, but solid for sure. The Patrol could easily replace the need for a DH bike.
  • 2 0
Going to test ride a Patrol from Solent Cycles soon, will post my findings, I just wish the 650b Patrol was called the Suppresor, it's a much cooler name!

Suppressor looks awesome, no full bike builds on their site though, anyone know anything more?
  • 1 0
 Frame only.
  • 2 1
Nice looking bikes but all 1x10?? Surely we all have the odd hill to climb?
  • 1 0
I live near TB's HQ and just switched to 1x10. We have hills. Mountains, even. And I am by no means a shining example of fitness. Doing just fine with a 30 up front and 36-11 in back. I also see quite a few aftermarket big rings on cassettes. I was pleasantly surprised to have zero complaints climbing. Try it!

Bottom Bracket Drop is the distance by which the center of the bottom bracket lies below the level of the rear hub. I guess I could do the math...but would be interested in their numbers, especially on the complete builds.
