Unreal. The kid's been knocking on the door all season long and on the one day he needed to shine, he blazed! 11.699 seconds faster than anyone else!
Men's Top 51. Danny Hart
2. Damien Spagnolo
3. Sam Blenkinsop
4. Brendan Fairclough
5. Mickael Pascal
Spagnolo (2), Hart (1), and Blenki (3)
Full results at bottom...This year's World Championships downhill was all about who could handle the greasy mud on the super steep track at Champery, and all about Danny Hart! Marco Miliventi held the lead for quite a while as rider after rider struggled and crashed in the mud. Then Remi Thirion took the hotseat with a 1.9 second lead, look at the time! With rain pouring down, Brendan Fairclough put down an awesome run taking the lead by 6.63 seconds. Fabien Barel put in an incredible effort riding with 4 broken ribs to move into 2nd place in his last ever World Championships, he ended up 10th when it was over. And then came the rider that many were waiting for, Sam Hill. Still riding with a shoulder injury, Sam put in an amazing run looking so loose and picking singular lines that could have given him the win if he'd had the strength, but he couldn't manage better than 2.76 seconds back from Brendan and ended up in 7th place. Damien Spagnolo started his run fast, 0.8 up at the first split, and ended up smashing Fairclough's time by 1.436 seconds to put himself in the hotseat. Josh Bryceland looked liked he had an insane run going but he went down with a spectacular crash in the same place that Hill crashed in 2007, and unfortunately his bike tomahawked off the course and into oblivion, ending his chances of even finishing his run. Sam Blenkinsop made some mistakes at the top and was 2.65 back at the first split looking like it was all over, but he made up some incredible time at the bottom and even with a few more mistakes ended up only 1.29 seconds back to join Spagnolo on the hotseat in second place. After that rider after rider failed to put in a clean run as conditions seemed to get worse with the rain.
And then Danny Hart hit the course with just 4 riders left. An astounding 4.5 seconds up at the first split, he was pulling tear offs in places where other riders could barely even hang on. Up by an almost unbelievable 10 seconds up at the second split, he threw a huge whip over the jumps at the finish and he moved into the hotseat, 11.69 seconds up on Spagnolo. Could anyone beat him? Gee really struggled with his run and was 11 seconds back at the first split, and then crashed again and again to finish 52 seconds back in 52nd place. Greg Minnaar started off 9.14 back at the first split and was out of the running, leaving only Aaron Gwin in a position to take Hart out. Gwin was giving Hart a serious run for his money, less than a second back at the first split, but he crashed and got tangled up in the netting, leaving Danny Hart with the win by over 11 seconds!
Mens Final DH Results
+11 sick as f**k
To all the Brits ragging about it... really? Must you?
And for the record, Gwin was on track to at LEAST give him a run on it.
World Cup = a SERIES of races, DOMINATED by one man.
World Champs = One race, one weekend.
@Pierpoint33:you're right the Uk is the best at riding and the US sucks at riding. Is that what you want said? Now shut your dumb face and go back to playing with your legos!

I mean how hard is it to celebrate an individual racers accomplishments without turning into an angry troll like so many people have been doing this season? Is it really that hard to appreciate everyone who rides at this insane level of difficulty without being a dick about it? Hell man, just be more positive.
Let's all stop bitching and just learn to admire some damn fine riding when we are privilidged to witness it, no matter what country the rider comes from.
Also, great rides from Fairclough to come in fourth without an ACL! And to Barel, went out in style IMO, four broken ribs, 10 years or so older than the young guns, and still got 10th spot, absolute legend!
Great run Danny super stoked for you! Well deserved!
I have more and more respect for this guy every day.
And as for this accent bs,Danny Hart is the only rider on the World circuit, that i know of, from this particular region of North East England that we call home, so his accent is obviousley gonna sound unusual to some people,i'll bet you'd be hard pushed to find an English man who couldn't understand him.So enough bs and a bit more respect for the best rider on the planet yeah.
Gary.
Gary.
go danny rat f*cking face hart
it was worth every f***ing cent
what i think you were attempting to say is that you COULDN'T care less about nationality. however this is literally the opposite of what you did say. im not a pedant for spelling or grammar (obv)when it dosnt matter but when your literally saying the opposite of what you mean it gets confusing.
1. Troy Brosnan 3:51.503
The Worlds Champ
1. Danny Hart 3:41.989
2. Damian Spagnolo 3:53.688
Everybody who thinks otherwise can try to ride next time they get injuired it's not that easy.
Didn’t want Gwin to win but was gutted that he lost it by crashing… would have been super close otherwise.
Fairclough in 4th too.

P.S. I think the article was written by a three year old!
Treks not my favorite team, Gwinns not my favorite rider, but I do have a soft spot for good racing.
I was looking at the race results and I only see Danny Hart winning this past one and he gets the rainbow. I'm a bit confused.
Thanks for any explanation!
This race was the World Championships, a one off race that has nothing to do with the world cups. The riders represent their countries and the winner is World Champion and is given the UCI rainbow stripes, hence Danny Hart and GB. That's why this is such a big deal.
Gwin won the overall for the world cups (all the other races) after ruling for the whole season and picking up the most points from each race.
Having said, does that mean both Danny Hart (World Championship) and Aaron Gwin (World Cup Overall Winner) get to have rainbow for their jerseys or just Hart?
i want him to win this championships and it really happened
Unlucky crash on Gwin.
Best believe the veterans have another thing come 2012...

I wouldn't be surprise that after this year, given the results, Gwin will probably seek out every mud-covered lift-assisted bike resort he can find and practice his 'questionable weather riding'. 5th at Ft. William in a muddy spot (IIRC), 3rd at La Bresse in the mud, and now a crash in slick Champery.
BTW: super-pumped Hart won. With Hill & Fairclough injured, I've been rooting for Hart this entire season because his style is just as ballsy and loose as the Monster boys. Glad he broke into the top spot of the podium (at the most ideal race too). Oh, and the whole 'man I hoped that Gwin wouldn't win [because he won everything else]' nonsense is pretty childish. Props where props are due, but don't feed the negativity just because someone's on a roll.

Happy for DamiEn (not DamiAn) and Blenkinsop.

PS, DAANNNNYYY!!!
Oh and Giant will have giant sales, at least in the UK.
Anyone still think the Giant Glory geometry sucks? :p
DEDICATION PAYS OFF....+ gave us a bit of whipping too
It's much more fun rooting for everyone.

On a side note, why do American's insist on pointing out that Aaron's from the USA at any possible opportunity? Sure you can be patriotic and all but I swear it was never this much when Gee or Peaty, or any other riders were winning overall's and championships?
I'm happy for Aaron because he slayed everyone for an entire season.
I'm happy for Hart because he killed it for the Rainbow Jersey.
I want another Gwin year, sorry for my honesty, and I want him for Worlds next year!
Who knows, though? It may be some other new team pickup in the off-season...
Just let us be happy for Gwin, you can all be happy for Hart, and stop the hating, EVERYONE, because it doesn't change the result.
That's funny because you're doing the exact same thing you're criticizing others of doing. You're a bright one aren't ya?
However it was unlucky that Gwin crashed how he did
NOW I'm in his camp (just to give it a name) because I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN, and we U.S. downhillers are finally glad to have someone who can challenge the world! Simple as that.
Heck, I liked Gee for a while, during the 2008 season, then I found out he was a complete tosser and had the worst attitude I'd seen in an interview in AGES. Just an example, NOT poking at British riders, just citing.
To conclude; I have more than ONE reason to like this year's WC results, and I STILL give props to Hart for his win!
Like what everyone else said, I'm just stoked that an American has been on top all year, not ragging on Hart. I only mentioned Gwin because every Brit on here has added comments like, "suck on that America!" and ridiculous stuff like that.
Can't we all just get along and take pride that our sport has such an outreach that I am discussing what I love the most with people on a different continent with the same interests!?
and since when is gwin redneck????
The bible was written thousands of years ago, then edited and interpreted throughout the years. Doesn't anyone realize how ignorant people were back then? Of course they had to try to come up with answers, and many of their theories have been proven wrong by science. Yet these people still think the earth was created in 7 days, and evolution is a theory, etc. Really?
