11 Bikes From Leogang DH World Champs 2020

Oct 7, 2020
by Ross Bell
We've missed our fix of World Cup downhill tech but finally we can start drooling over blinged out bikes once again. World Champs is the best race for that, with most teams bringing out custom paint schemes for each of their riders. It seems a few teams haven't managed to this year with so much uncertainty surrounding the events, but we've done our best to round up what we can with limited access to riders and their bikes - only team members allowed in the pits this season. Hang tight for more over the next few days!

wilson high pivot !! What !!!
  • 11 0
Beat me to it. I've owned (still have one) Wlisons. Love the bike. However, this thing gets my attention
  • 8 0
Dang might have to get a DH bike again.
  • 3 1
Alot of sick setups. That Devinci is the most interesting for me. Love that low link driven shock placement.
  • 1 1
is there a pivot in the rear triangle, or does it flex?
  • 3 0
@MartinKS: Definitely doesn't flex. Devinci often use a split pivot at the rear axle, so it's a little hard to see from the side views.
  • 87 0
Call the new devinci the Smith?
  • 137 0
 Call it "The Chainsaw"
  • 8 0
That's the only one of these bikes that I bothered to pause and look closer. Couldn't tell if it was still split pivot, but looks cool
  • 5 1
@Duderz7: It's hard to tell, but because the chainstay bolts directly to the rocker it leads me to believe that it is still Split Pivot at the rear axel. Other wise the rear suspension would bind if it was a solid rear triangle.
  • 2 1
@chasewarner2: Yeah - Seatstay appears to be on the outside of the chainstay, connected at the axle. the black on black makes it difficult to see.

flag southoftheborder (Oct 7, 2020 at 17:53) (Below Threshold)
@Duderz7: it's a horst link. The pivot sits in front of the dropout.
  • 3 0
@southoftheborder: based on photos it looks to be a split pivot which means there's a pivot at the rear axle, pretty inconclusive based on these pics so just going by previous iterations.
  • 7 1
@southoftheborder: Nope, look closer. Uses the same configuration at the axle as the current generation Wilson. That being said, if the pivot location was in front of the dropout, this would classify the bike as a linkage driven single pivot, as the axle and main pivot are at a fixed dimension.
  • 2 0
 It's definitely a split pivot.
  • 1 4
Looks like a single high pivot to me. The chainstay and seatstay are welded to the dropout which looks to be a single plate.
  • 2 0
@Tmackstab: nah, look closer. If you see at the link, the seatstay and chainstay are not connected. Its a split pivot 100%
  • 1 0
@jomacba: I stand corrected Sir, looking at the pictures in my phone I didn't realize the chainstay was hiding behind the seatstay. On my computer it shows clearly.
  • 1 0
@jomacba: Oh gotcha ok. I'm looking on my phone so the pics are a little small
  • 2 0
@Tmackstab: @southoftheborder: Yeah its quite hard to see. Honestly, the only reason I noticed were those small details, but at a glance it definitely looks fixed.
  • 1 0
@Tmackstab: they are not. Use brightness controls to light up the picture, then you can see it's a split pivot. The comments regarding 'suspension locking up' are correct, as there is no intermediate link like there should be for this to work. Let alone a brace between the seatstays and chainstays.
  • 1 0
@Primoz: Yup I see now, everyone can simmer down.
  • 1 0
@Tmackstab: sorry, I loaded the page 14 hours ago (in the morning before work) and answered directly to you on it loaded, without seeing all the comments in the middle... My comment was definitely not needed.
  • 2 0
@Primoz: we can still be friends

Can someone translate this please? I don't speak grubby commie
  • 50 8
I love my country but I have to agree, that bike looks terrible. Looks like a barber pole.
  • 23 8
@Bro-LanDog: when did commie become such an indiscriminate term?

@me2menow: right about when the tyrants decided that human beings were property of the state
  • 36 11
@Bro-LanDog: sounds like the US right about now. The state and corporations are basically intermarried.

flag Bro-LanDog (Oct 7, 2020 at 15:21) (Below Threshold)
@me2menow: except in the US you can express dissent, move, start your own business, attend any education you'd like, all without being imprisoned or murdered! But because corporations hold political interests means its totes the same, right?
  • 32 5
@Bro-LanDog: for the record, even though I hate our political system I love our country and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. But calling everyone a "commie" just makes us look ignorant lol
  • 22 8
@me2menow: Originally I was joking based off the extremist views that were held during the cold war when any dissent towards the american flag was viewed as support for communism. I took it a bit too far. I understand that brazil isn't communist you silly goose!
  • 9 6
@Bro-LanDog: Geee-bus. People have no sense of humor.
  • 21 5
Fair play. Honestly Im just so used to people using that kind of rhetoric with complete seriousness. Sucks that we've gotten to that point
  • 7 5
@Bro-LanDog: back to his original comment. you have to admit the bike is pretty uninspired, it's pretty much a flag painted on the frame, I think Trek could do better especially when you see all the badass paintjon they ve dome thru the years especially for the slopestyle or rampage guys. On the same theme, Gwin Yt from few years back was stunning.
  • 24 20
@Bro-LanDog: the American flag is ugly and basically always looks atrocious as a paint scheme
  • 11 11
@kleinblake: Everyone's entitled to their own opinion no matter how wrong they may be

@vhdh666: Sir/ma'am, did you hear that sudden whooshing sound?
  • 4 5
@kleinblake: that’s not true. I’ve seen plenty of really awesome American flag paint schemes. This particular one though, looks horrendous.
  • 1 0
I didn’t like Charlie’s worlds outfit and bike last year either, I think it was the shoes that got to me most... nothing to do with the states, just bad art direction imo
  • 10 2
If i never see an American flag paint job on a bike again, it will be too soon.

I don't ride DH, but I NEED that chrome Commencal Supreme! So rad.
  • 4 0
Its polished aluminum, but yes absolutely.
  • 14 0
Doesn’t matter what it is, lots of us will be polishing something later on! It’s hotter than Claudia Schiffer on a warm German day.

  • 19 3
 Where is Charlie Harrison from?
  • 8 1
Another person that inhabits the earth, most likely the parent of said human
  • 4 0
I believe he hails from Mission Viejo here in Southern Californistan! He raced out at Fontana a lot as a young'un.
  • 7 2
@herzalot: Right on. It was more of a commentary on the subtlety of the paint job on his rig.
  • 5 0
@timrippeth: Ahh - usually I'm the one with the pithy sarcasm. You got me!
  • 4 1
Hahahahahahahahahahaaahhhaa. Good thing I read through the comments because I was gonna ask that. During his race run people will be like: Oy, where's that dude from, eh?

The actual funny thing is how nobody made that comment in regards to Max' bike!

 Gold trp's look nice
  • 2 4
 I thought they were codes
  • 6 0
Oh my, as a TRP fan, I need those gold TRPs...
  • 4 1
They took a queue from Hayes and their Dominions.
  • 2 0
 @CycleKrieg: +1 for sure!!
  • 1 0
@CycleKrieg: You can buy them! Check TRP's website or instagram.
  • 17 4
Those intense bikes always look hot as fk
  • 14 5
Honestly I really dislike American flag on purely a visual stand point. No disrespect intended. I just think it ugly. But I'm not gonna lie and I know in definitely in th minority here. But I kinda dig the stars and stripes rig.... Also that Devinci..... #bikeporn
  • 12 0
Hell yeah Seth! That M29 looks so sick built up!!!
  • 10 0
These bikes will all look the same when they get to the bottom of that couse... mat brown with a rough texture.
  • 13 5
Happy to see the TREK team actually repping their countries and My favorite part of the year is worlds bikes!

  • 19 13
This just in, American presidents may be a fan of american flag themes. Thanks Steviestokes for this valuable insight in these trying times
  • 10 1
It’s the subtlety that makes it work so well
  • 8 3
 Hates Remi’s though

TRP showing off they can colour match anodising batches better than Fox.
  • 4 2
Is it really a "Factory" team bike if it's a prototype which looks nothing like the sold bike and more like a smattering of waffle cone aluminum, pivot extenders, and Buffalo Check?

Cynicism aside, I hope the bikes perform and they have a great race!
  • 2 0
Didn’t they have the same prototype last year with the same decal graphics?
  • 7 1
Love the message on Remi T's bike! Smile
  • 2 0
I love those Intense prototypes... reminds me of the days when the beautiful creations from INTENSE and FOES were going head to head in DS and DH. My guess is that they'll sort out the prototypes and them make a carbon version or a cleaner aluminum version.
  • 1 0
If you're fast enough to run lightnings on your bike, you know you've made it. Tahnees paint job is awesome. Combining Miami Vice colours with retro rock/metal vibes.

Thirions chrome with subtle french heritage on top of the boxxer crown is classy, although they should have made a white air cap to make it the full tricolore.

But the HSP Wilson is the bomb!! Size of the main pivot bearings on that one is like Danny Hart's balls, big.
  • 3 2
Max Hartensen's is on point for flag and the Intense's are all cool but the rest are a bit lacklustre. I guess there was a bit of uncertainty whether the WC would go ahead. Put the Stars n Stripes away Harrison, this is not the year to flash that around, haha.
  • 2 0
I think both of the Trek bikes and the Cube bikes look the best for World Champs. The riders go as representatives for their country and I like that the paint jobs reflect that.
  • 5 2
Gwin's Proto Drool Glad to see they made the seatpost bracing better looking.
  • 2 4
 Looks so rad
  • 4 0
Yoooo I love Tahnee's color scheme!!
  • 5 2
Wow gwin and nekos bikes are so different and it totally wasn’t a waste of a bike including both!!
  • 3 0
Nobody is talking about thrumers paint job. Nothing special about the bike but damn that bike looks nice
  • 1 0
My favourite paint job, by far! Very classy, with a racing touch!
  • 1 0
All bikes look great to be honest. But with all the prototyping, I'm missing someone with the cojones to ride a certain donut to victory! I've heard from a certain reputable person it's supposed to be wicked fast...

  • 1 0
 Yes, for me too!
  • 3 0
What's the rear tyre on that Cube? Schwalbe "First Ride"?
  • 5 0
A prototype tire. That's what they call them
  • 4 0
Does it even have room to spin? It appears as if it is way too close to the chainstay.
  • 1 0
Tread looks like Magic Mary (large corner knobs lined in blocks of four). If I were to bet my meager savings I would say it's something tricky involving inserts and or sidewall/rim protection. Similar to the Maxxis team only protos that occasionally pop up.
  • 1 0
@vinay: could be perspective. If not, it'll probably get stuck on the first sideways loading.
  • 3 0
What's on top of Max magura's caliper?
  • 3 0
Almost looks like both a head shield AND mudguard for pads due to how muddy the conditions are. I could be totally wrong on the guard side of things LOL
  • 6 0
 Mud guard
  • 3 0
looks like some sort of carbon shield ,perhaps to keep the dirt out ???
  • 1 0
 @nhp890: exactly! very nice detail
  • 1 0
I would guess dirt guard but it also looks like it would act as a bit of an air scoop for directed cooling.
  • 1 0
awesome - I'm actually working on setting up a chainstay mounted upper chain guide like on Gwin's bike... the chain has been catching on my massive knobs

Boxers look so out of place on that Commencal, a bike that's always being compared to a monster truck.

@david trummer‘s paint job: wrong color -why bronze- After Innsbruck gold is the color we want to see Smile

reece wilson must be the newest addition to the snp's advertising campaign
  • 1 0
Upon further review the Devinci Wilson HP with Split Pivot has some shit going on! Too bad it’s going to be a snow/mud race.
  • 1 0
With the weather conditions being what they are all the bikes are gonna look the same at the end of this race. Muddy!
  • 4 2
Not joking but that Cube DH really looks like a Session.
  • 11 0
Looks like no rear tire clearance too
  • 1 0
That's the new German Scott Gambler, bro. Don't you see the Black, red and gold all over it, eh?!?
  • 2 0
Must be a prototype derailleur or cassette on Gwin's bike?
  • 1 0
Because there are no pics of that side of the bike? Now you got me all curious and shi....
  • 2 1
Those lightning bolts on the Canyon!
Wondering if the mullet Intense can run a dropper?
  • 2 0
 love the lightning bolts
  • 1 0
It would be awesome to see a how it's made video of an Intense aluminum frame...they are always so interesting to look at.
  • 2 0
 Mullet Sender is sweeeet!!
  • 1 0
I've been hoping Devinci would do this for a long time, now they just need to give the spartan the same treatment...
  • 3 1
Why does Charlie Harrison have his bike painted up in the Spanish flag?
  • 2 0
That Wilson has caught my attention Drool
  • 1 0
i'm a little upset with sticker placement on the rims and valve alignment against the tires. . . ... jussayin. . ..
  • 2 0
Those intense prototypes look nicer than the carbon 29.
  • 1 0
some pretty tight looking tyre clearance on some of the bikes... gonna be interesting in the mud and slop...
  • 1 0
Did anyone else notice that all the Fox bikes are coils shocks and all the RockShox bikes are air shocks...
  • 2 1
Those Trek bikes are on point. Not subtle but great for world champs.
  • 1 0
 Tahnee’s bike is beautiful!
  • 1 0
 I love the polished Commencal.
  • 1 0
Some sexy bikes and a freedom flag!
  • 1 0
 Who's cleaning those Intense bikes???????????????
  • 1 0
That paint job for Seth tho ????
  • 2 1
I was drooling until I saw those Intense bikes and barfed!
  • 2 1
 That Intense prototype looks disgusting!
  • 5 5
Ya had me until Neko and Gwins bike.
  • 3 0
All that lattice looks like a transmission casing. I kinda like it though.
  • 11 12
Charlie Harrison's Trek Session is definitely the best looking out of all these DH bikes.
  • 12 4
Everyone’s entitled to their opinions but I think it’s by far the ugliest. Looks like a dollar store July 4th decoration
  • 1 0
 Those bikes look good.
