Whistler is always one of the toughest races on the circuit - and the 2019 edition is no exception. This year's course encompasses everything that makes the riding here so iconic - technical, varied and relentlessly physical. For the first time in its six year history the race is taking place over two days. The Queen stage was held on day one, and there will be five stages on day two. Check out the course in our
EWS Whistler Pinkbike Primer and in the course preview video below.
Riders are on course now for a slippery day two in Whistler. We'll keep you updated on the action throughout the day.

Awesome :
Come on EWS, you can find a better IT guy than your 14 year old nephew.
How long did you have to wait to see photos and a race recap at the other site by the way ;-). Or should I say how much longer do you think you'll have to wait as there is zero content up from the race (other than the result sheet)
As for the EWS live timing I only use it to see updates after each sage while out working in the field. Never had it fail this weekend while looking for stage winners but that's all I was using it for and had quite a strong cell signal so who knows.
Nothing against PB, this was an EWS issue. The EWS site gave AJAX errors every few seconds (on Safari and Chrome) It did not auto refresh. And as others said: zero news after stage 5. Normally they mention it when there are issues etc. I fully understand the difficulties of communication in a wild environment (living in Australia, there are many areas with no cell coverage just 15 minutes out of the city) but this weekend there was more going on than just the usual difficulties on the trail. Clicking away an error message on a live stream website every few seconds gets old quickly
You just keep up the good work and don't feel offended If EWS goes back to the the standard of last year with their website it already would be an improvement
Some bitter people here.
Then previous to this stage you fill it up with interviews and action of every previous stuff.
Also drones today could help to cut down costs and access every where...
So really I think there is no excuse today for a proper coverage on MTBiking...
@smallsilences: That ignores that even on a 10 minute stage, a mechanical will effectively put you out of contention. It would be pretty boring if stages were all 2-3 minutes long. Besides, it didn't have any real impact for the top guys here.
And do you really think that the time out of the spotlight he was not tested by any agency or sponsor?
He’s a beast, drug or no drug. He took a sip, he screwed up. Got “clean”, no he’s back.
He's been a big strong kid his ENTIRE life and had braces in his teeth in his late teens like many many many people do... But yeah... HGH (rolls eyes)
For now the study was on mice, but who knows, sports rules may change in the futyre because of that.
The article stated that EPO may be less concerned.
All that other stuff you are in about... No one in ews has tested positive for then so how is it relevant?
He was a junior dh champion and ews winner and is around long enough and surrounded by knowledgeable staff to know the uci dos and don'ts. Negating this fact is sugarcoating his willingness and his teams disregard for the fragile image of dopingfree cycling and especially mountainbiking.
He is using poor excuses instead of showing true character and accepting responsibility for his actions. Just like every other cycling cheat.
Ace mtber but poor judgment
Insinuating that the way someone was born and has looked since they were 13 year old is your evidence that they have been dabbling in performance enhancing drugs for years ???
People come I all shapes and sizes and compared to the general population of humans he's not even a very big guy (and still smaller than his own father if genetics matter at all to you). There are also numerous DH riders and freeriders of similar physique as well so what say you there?
It's one thing to have your opinions but spouting of this kind of crap as your "proof" just makes you an A-hole
There is no doubt that Richie and Maes violated the anti-doping rules. But, there is no evidence that Richie or Maes did this intentionally or as part of a doping program. Nor is there any evidence that the particular drugs at issue conveyed any long-term advantage to either Richie or Maes. Yet, in a desperate attempt to diminish Richie's recent performance, people made wild accusations - referring to drugs that are not at issue (HGH), unrelated episodes of doping (Tour de France), or just made up statements that suited them without any facts (that Richie's ingestion of the drugs was intentional).
What I take away from the actual facts is that a mistake was made by Richie and Maes. A big mistake, but not one that is beyond redemption. I think deep down those who are upset at Richie recognize that, too. That is why they attempt to change the known facts and distort them into something else. That doesn't seem fair. So, while nobody needs to give them the benefit of the doubt, we also shouldn't give in to our worst imaginations.
When you have people saying that Richie has stopped his entire adult life and use the shape of his head and braces in his teeth as a teenager as proof it crosses a line. And that kind of BS needs to stop
What a joke , you’d think Vail and UCI combined together would have enough money to have at least a dozen cameras on course for this event to promote the sport...
Yeah, it should not be that complicated to use drones to film and some camera med on the ground aswell. I´ll pay a lot to see that. I mean the places by themselves are so exotic and beautiful so don't have to be hardcore enduro/dh fan to watch EWS.
What people should remember is that Hill started the series pretty weak, and during Ler Orres, the guy flatted 1st stage, and pulled back to 12th overall at the end... animal
Anyone remember where he placed last year? Could have sworn it was higher.
Disclaimer, this was done while making breakfast for the kids, so I hope I didn't mess anything up.
#cleanasf*ckandclearythefastest
i understand the social animosity towards idols who cheat and i won't say he didn't, but the logic's missing if you think it made that much of a difference in a downhill sport. i understand the margins between riders are still pretty small, but i'd be surprised if time loss wasn't more a factor of mistakes made on track than physical fitness. look at loris vergier then look at adam brayton. why is loris consistently a lot faster?
and maybe ask yourself/others why you're so offended by it? is it because you think if only i gave myself that advantage i'd be richie rude too? go for it.
good job overall standings isn't calculated by adding up rider positions in relation to their percentage of time difference over each stage length
