PRESS RELEASE: Rossignol

Rossignol’s SUPER project is a movement in graphic design with a singular purpose: To create a line of limited-edition products that call back to the most cherished and obscure parts of Rossignol’s heritage. SUPER is a design process that draws on elements from different mountain sports across the brand’s history and combines them in three unique new products.

The project draws its inspiration from a beloved but rare 1994 ski called the Super Virage, which was only sold in Japan. Its loud, vivacious design symbolized the frenetic energy inherent in Japanese ski culture—with bright accents of pink, fuchsia, and purple. As a nod to one of the least-known but most-coveted Rossignol designs of all time, we’re bringing it back for a select time. You can now find it in a limited run of the Heretic mountain bike, the Blackops 98 ski, and the Sashimi snowboard, redesigned into the Super Heretic, Super Blackops, and Super Sashimi. As three burly toys built for descending gnarly mountains in all conditions, they’re loud, capable, and one-of-a kind—and they’re made to play anywhere.

 Wow!

 The special edition of a bike that every website reviewed as "meh"

Sounds like they're trying to get rid of some of these by slapping a fresh coat of paint on
  • 24 0
 Have they fixed the meh or is it now pink meh
  • 18 0
 Pink meh.
  • 12 6
 Two in the stink, one in the pink?
  • 9 2
 That wouldn't be anything new for a ski brand. They used to take unsold skis at the end of a season and slap the next year's top on them. Then raise the price.
  • 13 7
 @kabanosipyvo: you clearly din't have a clue about how a ski is made.
  • 7 1
 @Balgaroth: I've seen skis where the brand has slapped a type of sticker or vinyl on the top, followed by a clearcoat and resold the ski as a new model / year.
  • 1 0
 @ratedgg13: you mean "the barracuda"
  • 4 0
 Regardless of color, it just reeks of an old catalog bike with Rossi logos.
  • 8 2
 @Balgaroth: I have a pair of re-topped vintage Volkl P9's in my basement right now. They were sold with red tops for two years before I bought that pair. After red, pink tops came out, with no changes to sidecut or construction -- essentially the same ski, but marketed as something new. Wear and damage to the edges of the pink top revealed the older red top underneath. Rossi and others did this as well.

But since you seem to know so much about how skis are made, perhaps you could explain how my skis shouldn't exist?

 @ratedgg13: Two in the Meh and one in the Hell Yeah.

 @ratedgg13: just the way your mum likes it

 Is it just me or does the bike colour look heavily edited in the group photo?
  • 125 1
 Nope its still dog dick pink
  • 11 0
 Looks like a dodgy photoshop.
  • 4 3
 All of them are over produced. But I think thats the point. They all have a 90's era instagram effect, as does their logo.
  • 14 0
 @fatduke: that is... oddly specific
  • 27 2
 @derzemel: It is oddly specific, but also incorrect. The bike looks like its Pantone 192, but what @fatduke is referencing is closer to Pantone 187

 @fatduke: Red Rocket!
  • 2 0
 That's just what it looks like when there aren't any fog machines nearby

 @derzemel: I work for Dulux paint.

 @fatduke: the best colour pink

 @noplacelikeloam: 90's era instagram?

Was that a geocities group, or do I need to use Lycos?
  • 5 1
 @bhuckley: Well played. Compuserve?
  • 17 0
 @noplacelikeloam:

Oh no, not me sir. I was America Online... my favorite part of AOL was their monthly promotional diskettes which were promptly formatted, had label ripped off and relabeled as "stuff".

That monthly 1.4mb of storage was critical for archiving some of my favorite files that arrived "line by line".
  • 3 0
 @bhuckley: That comment made this genX er LoL. Nicely done
  • 1 0
 @bhuckley: Which was fine until your dad gave someone the AOL disc...
  • 2 0
 @bhuckley: insert 3.5" floppy joke here --
  • 1 0
 @dpars63: I love it when people reference Pantone ink colors when it comes to paint. Especially when they're comparing an online color tool rendered on god only knows what kind of monitor comparing it to photos taken god only knows what kind of light settings with who knows what kind of white balancing and post-processing.

 How's this for a throwback:

"-flexy, unreliable frame construction"

 Man, that's a horrible review.

Is it just me or does EVERY bike release in the last year include something like this?
  • 7 0
 Been along those lines for as long as there have been mountain bikes. Hell, probably started back when the Wright brothers were building them.
  • 9 1
 Special editions like this are cool. Love it!
  • 10 2
 $5,800 usd?! Hard pass.
  • 14 3
 It's a good spec for the price, but if the frame has structural integrity issues, it's not worth it for any price.
  • 7 2
 @danielfloyd: for an alloy frame with heavy alloy wheels, I tend to disagree. There are good carbon enduro bikes out there with a better price tag than that
  • 3 1
 @hardtailpunter: I'd pay more to not have carbon. Luckily Alloy is cheaper. I would never buy a Rossignol bike though unless the company made some serious changes to their mtb program
  • 2 1
 @hardtailpunter: that just means its carbon. Not better specifically.
  • 2 2
 @kokofosho: I'm not saying it is better, and I would also prefer an alloy bike myself. I'm just saying that carbon is more expensive, and the fact that I can get a similar equipped carbon enduro at a lower price just doesn't make this a good deal. Look at the Propain Tyee in AL, you'd get a much better frame for considerably less money

 Last time I saw that color on a bike it was on the rack at Toys R Us. I think it had tassels as well.

How about a bike in understated maroon like the original Strato 102’s? Point those babies downhill and don’t bother trying to carve until you hit 30.
  • 3 0
 the bikes looks Ama-zing in the marketing photos, not so much in the real world. It needs the 90's style jerseys and colors to make it look at natural. It also needs to be photographed on grainy 90's film.
  • 5 0
 I really miss bright yellow Deemax's ,i used to think they made me look a hardcore bro rider .
  • 4 2
 Erm brorider it sounds like something that happens in the Deep South of the USA because theres no sister
  • 2 0
 @Compositepro: as someone from the deep south, bro and dude are both gender neutral terms.
  • 3 1
 @Themanicguy: negative, brorider. Your sisters been done.

 @Compositepro: mate,you need to get out of Kabul and meet some women Smile

 Don't care who builds it or what color they paint it, NO THRU HEADSET ROUTING FTW!!
  • 5 0
 With new aerospace inspired oval bearings on the chainstays
  • 3 0
 Wow and wow..
There’s that frame again, and there’s that price because of the components they tacked onto it..
This is the polar opposite of what I throw my money at.
  • 2 0
 Absolute crap. The only reason Rossi sell Heretic's is because of their heavily insentivised relationship with Ski resorts. Ride like shit and the frame has structural integrity issues.
  • 1 0
 I do not quite get it... Or maybe it is obvious that money exchanged hands to land this post...
The bottom line of the bike review is basically that it sucks... www.pinkbike.com/news/review-rossignol-heretic.html

"Competing with the main players in the industry for mid-priced bikes is surely challenging, but when you stamp your logo on the frame, that’s the last piece of the pie that should crumble. Rossignol could have been in the running for Value Bike of the Year winner with the Heretic XT if the frame was reliable. It’s a shame that such a well priced, widely-available bike didn’t live up to the basic needs of a modern enduro bike."— Matt Beer

As they say... You can put (pink) lipstick on a pig...
  • 2 0
 The build looks decent with Ohlins suspension and XT build, but $5800 for an aluminum frame? Tough sell. You could get a carbon build from the alpha dog companies for that.
  • 1 0
 I am not a fan of this Rossignol frame, but there are quite a number of riders who prefer aluminium, me included. And good suspension, drivetrains and wheels have their price, no matter what frame you hang them on.

Knolly (ca), Nicolai (de), Pole (fi) and many others never even bothered to make carbon bikes, so I don't see a problem with a 6k aluminium bike. I DO see a problem with this Rossignol bike, though

 This Pinkbike owned by Outside ?

 Bet it’s still super shit.

 This is what I’ve been waiting for, there should be more of these multi sports collaborations for fanboys.
  • 1 0
 I think it looks dope. But I also love the 90s. I think it’s cool that they’re doing something different with a bit of flavour.

 8K CDN for an aluminium bike that looks like a fire sale. HARD AF NO

 Rossignal trying to compete with other bike brands. Looks pretty cool but me buying that bike is the same chance as me buying a Ibis. try hards vs Booty looking.
