@gclarida: Does a coffee shop in Whistler need exposure? ;-)
In any case it feels poorly placed, seeing as its not in anyway involved in a storyline. He doesn't drink the coffee out on the trail. He's not even in the same kit. Just good old product placement. Still. Trying hard not to complain about decent riding content just clumsy marketing...
@OrangeGoblin: Yeah actually its down in the far part of town away from the village. Just a good way to let the locals know really, as everyone in whistler has probably seen this video by now haha
@OrangeGoblin: along with what @bobbybottleservice said, i think he just picked them up as a sponsor very recently, i could be mistaken but i think i saw something on instagram recently about them!
@OrangeGoblin: No way. That was a beautiful coffee shop and for all of us who don't live in Whistler it's cool to get a tip on a nice spot to get some food or coffee. Part of the fun of riding is the traveling component and checking out the place as well as the trails.
@OrangeGoblin: Clunky as the advertising is, I look at it as a reasonable trade off to see these videos. It's only a few seconds and doesn't interrupt the actual riding, plus it's a local company who may otherwise struggle for exposure in this way. Remy must be getting some kind of benefit, so fair play. In a worse world he would not have ridden and had to go do a desk job! ;-)
@OrangeGoblin: He gets free bikes, free gear and now free coffee? If we see him get a free Panini in his next edit, I'm going to break down and go buy a $10 Panera sandwich!
Don't get me wrong, I agree with all of you that an independent business getting a foot up with help from community\atheletes is good, and if it brings us decent content then even better - I don't resent the coffee shop getting exposure at all. At first it just seemed like a company trying to leverage popular culture poorly. I didn't realise they sponsored him. (Though if he walked into a Wendys and ordered a burger at the start you'd most likely agree that its a poorly executed, shallow advertising slot, no?)
So I guess I'm looking at it this issue with a marketing head on, as thats my job, and its the continuity that bothers me. Its the fact that it bears no link to the video that I think is poor. Why didn't he crack that coffee open half way down the trail? Or at least walk into the coffee shop showing off the Camelback if thats the sponsor (He was wearing different kit and not a Camelbak. Anyway, it just felt a little like an afterthought and it bugged me. I'll shut up now, theres riding to be done. Thanks for the heads up guys and girls. :-)
@OrangeGoblin: His coffee mug is made by Camelbak, and the edit was supported by Camelbak. I think that's marketing connection they were trying to make. Why he wore his backpack into the coffee shop though, that's beyond me.
@Keitholbean: i wear a Camelbak pack on the coffee shot, cause I always wear that pack with me. It has my wallet and computer. When I go there I usually seat down and use what's in my pack. I have been there yesterday, i am on my way today and I will tomorrow again. Nothing is fake here. Also don't forget that I'able to produce content only thanks to people behind those companies called "sponsors". No support means no video.
@remymetailler: I always have my morning coffee before every ride mate, it's part of the riding ritual, i don't see anything wrong with showing your mug or any local coffee shop, video is just awesome, period. Keep up the good work and shred on..!!!
haha I am glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that loud as shit noise coming from his setup every time he used more than 50 percent travel... it was driving me crazy
Depends on the quality of your soundsystem. With good speakers it is amazing, but with my standard low quality laptop sound it doesn't give you the feeling / the real sound of cycling and it's rather just annoying noise. I love it though when I put on my headphones.
Hard to understand the negativity. On the professional level, this whole industry is about endorsments. Assuming he actually likes their coffee, it was pretty unpretentious...
I saw it more as @remymetailler bringing his reusable Camelbak mug in for coffee, which is cool since he's reducing waste. I was impressed with sustainability efforts of communities in the PNW when I was there. Nothing worse than people leaving behind disposable coffee cups and plastic water bottles along your trails.
Can't fault him for promoting a sponsor. Probably the same deal with the backpack he appeared to be wearing getting out of the truck to go and get a coffee with.
@remymetailler: sick lines remy u ripped a treasure/overnight an reserectum a new one! you bombed that chute last time i saw a guy go down it that fast was when he lost his brakes haha
That trail is tough, it may look slow, but it's still 3 times faster than most mortals. I have ridden this, and the stuff he rides at Whistler, and I find this more impressive (though the Whistler stuff is still spectacular)
@nzstormer: I didn't say it was slow, just a speed that is possible for mortals. While I haven't ridden this, I have ridden whistler 4-5 times and it's ridiculous how he basically doubles everything...
@nvranka: I got what you were saying, but I think if you rode this trail, you would realize that this is not a speed possible for mortals. I would say he rides Whistler 2 times faster than me, and he rides this trail 4 times faster than me.
So wait, does this mean Coffee drinking to start an edit is officially PB approved again? Remy IS the trendsetter....what happens if he mixes his next edit with dubstep?....the circle of cool always comes back around... Siiiiick edit Remy!
I think these videos are going to eventually progress to "Watch Remy Metailler ride a unicycle backwards down Mt. Everest while juggling kittens, and on fire." He's just that good.
@Mrstamper: The sound of the damper means that the damper itself it´s working nice and the oil is flowing around it.. so.. to me, it´s a nice sound... the sound of work!
Hey remy its Kris from local....great edit bro see you in a few days!!!
And to all the people wondering about camp coffee it's one of his sponsors as well as a great coffee shop in function
Two things, riding down that terrain on a trail bike rather than a DH bike wouldn't determine the helmet i wear, that some full face shit right there, and secondly, no annoying music is better.
But WTF was with the trendy coffee shop intro at the start? Extraneous at best. Hopping on the hipster bandwagon for marketing purposes at worst.
Now what beans shall I grind for my morning flat white....

...I've even bored myself.

And no "the sound is added in post production" here, like in Mike Hopkins: Raw 100 for example
the "natural" sound is much better
Siiiiick edit Remy!
step one: HUCK ALL THE THINGS!
It's great to see technical, steep, hidden (I assume) trails like this. Not the usual big speed/big air whistler edit!
