BetterRide with Gene Hamilton ups the ante again by joining forces with Marla Streb to put on the best mountain bike skills coaching in the US. The BetterRide Mountain Bike Camp will take place on June 2-4, 2007.

The upcoming Battle of Radstock to be held later this year will feature one rider who will be given the chance to fight it out with the pro’s! A wild card entry to the competition (plus 2 spectator passes) will be granted to the rider who submits the best video of their skills, best of all it’s judged by you!

Yeah okay, I'll admit it! I've been lagging and haven't done a Fresh Meat feature in a while. As you can tell by this installment, it’s not that I haven't been getting any new goodies - but real reason is that the weather here has been fantastic and I've been spending more time on the bike and less in front of the computer. A lot of good stuff in this one - enjoy!

Well its still winter and I feel compelled to write about another non biking event, but this time the parallels are so great that you should all get something out of this little story. I am currently on holidays in North Western BC enjoying a nice cold winter as opposed to the coastal crap that was being dealt to us on the lower main land and the Fraser Valley. My theory was to hit the road and find real winter. Ok I’m already off track here, so I’ll reel myself back in and head down the right road. I want to tell you all about an event that I got to go watch this past weekend. The event was called RAYZ Rail Jam (link to site) and it took place in Smithers BC, hometown to Wayne Goss and a host of other really talented mountain bikers. But this event was for the skiers and boarders of the North West, and they killed it.

The Wham Bam Thank You Jam event is back for 2007, this time in the form a full North American mountain bike slopestyle series.

The first stop of the Wham Bam Thank You Jam series is at the Hindsight Indoor Motocross Park in Portland, OR on March 5th and 6th. Riders will be coming from as far as Norway and the UK to compete against the best riders in the world at an indoor venue featuring dirt and man-made obstacles.

Giant Bicycles looks to be staying at the forefront of the Canadian bike industry with the signing of an all-star downhill team. As we enter our ninth year of National level team sponsorship, Giant Bicycles still illustrates its’ continued commitment to developing the sport of cycling even when other companies tighten the sponsorship reigns.

"We were getting sick of being limited to releasing new content based on our 84 hr. countdown clock so we've done away with that so we can release new videos every day. The Kootenay Columbia Trails Society is accepting applications for full-time positions on our 2007 summer trail-building crew, based in Rossland B.C. from mid-May through mid September. Remuneration based on experience and responsibility.

BOS ENGINEERING, the company that made Nicolas Vouilloz's bikes when he created his own team, is back on the DH scene.

Bos was created in 1999 by Olivier Bossard, the guy who designed the famous Sunn Radical Plus, which has been titled many times (Gachet, Chausson, Vouilloz, Gracia, Barel, Pascal where all crowned at least one time with this bike). At Sunn, Olivier designed all the bikes: frame, fork, rear shock, and many other parts. The factory Radical Plus used a lot of special parts and were pure factory bikes.

Kathy, the 2000 Junior World Downhill Champion and 2-time National Champ will be racing a Jamis Diablo in downhill events and a Jamis Komodo in Four Cross and slalom events. Kathy will be concentrating on the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National series (NMBS), the US Open of Mountain Biking as well as North American World Cups and many travel and adventure trips that she has planned where she will put the new Jamis XAM though its paces.

Next Saturday, the Stoneham Mountain resort will hold the BIKER-X event, a thrilling 4x cross downhill bike race on snow which takes place at night!

Phil Sundbaum is a huge guy and he just gets noticed when he's out biking, but his size has very little to do with it. You see, Phil kills it on the old 2 wheelers! Natural talent and drive have made him a force to reckon with on the Street, Park and DJ scenes.

Angus Council Community Learning and Development - Bike Tracks
Where are the bike tracks on the East Coast of Scotland? It’s a question many local mountain bikers have been asking. Yes the east coast is well served with a variety of natural trails and some unofficial jump sites. But if its Glentress style all weather biking you're after then there are few places in Scotland further from these types of developed tracks. Angus Council’s community learning & development outdoor education team is taking steps to promote a discussion about the viability of a mountain bike trail development matching one of the 7-Stanes sites. This discussion would lead to a consultation period in April.

Ok last friday they were playing part 1 over at Rip.tv and this week part two is up. Helping out in this event was such an eye opener on how much progression happens in one weekend.

I think we’re in Idaho. I might not be sure of our exact location but I am positive that of the three dirt covered men in this truck, one of us has a “flatulence problem” worthy of seeing a specialist for. For some reason though, its just as funny now as it was seven days ago when we left snowy and wet Chilliwack for the 24 hour drive south to Virgin, Utah.

Erin Lewis of Nanaimo, BC has joined the team. She's a great addition:
she's friendly, keen to rise up thought the ranks of the pro women's field, and she has a professional and marketable presence as an athlete as well as expert bike handling skills. Erin's unique perspective on how to improve the team and the sport of Downhill Mountain Biking also fits with Primary/Daredevil's goals to grow the sport.

The first overall National Series ranking and Canada Cup overall winner, Adrienne Miller, is back onboard Team Devinci for a huge season of cross Canada, rubber shredding racing. “With such an amazing '06 season under her belt, we’re so proud to be supporting this athlete again and wish her all the best!” says Devinci. This past weekend was the second annual, Ray’s 3Ride event in Cleveland, Ohio. SRAM athletes from the U.S. and Canada descended on the indoor mountain bike park for the two-day competition.

We at Nemesis Project Cycles are formally announcing the formation of the 2007 “under the radar” team. Comprised of top, up and coming riders in street, park, trail, and gravity racing. The Nemesis Project team is committed to the evolution of the freestyle mountain bike, but ultimately will be keeping it grimy abusing their top-of-the-line Nemesis Project frames made from True-Temper Ox platinum.

Back on the 28th of January the first ever round of the Leamington open race series in Warwickshire was held. The race series has been organised by the Warwick University mountain bike club and is sponsored by MTB-Bitz, John Atkins cycles and STA travel along with being supported by Red Bull and Warwick sport-the sporting wing of Warwick University.

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Seventeen year old JD Swanguen comes out of the gate charging taking the overall win at Ray’s 3 Ride Pro Invitational in Cleveland Ohio over a solid contingent of heavy hitters.

Just 2 weeks after signing a two year deal with Cove Bikes JD has landed on top of his first podium of the year. Over the last few years JD has gained a reputation as one of the most all round young riders in the US, and this was transparent this weekend when he rode his Cove Foreplay to the win at Ray’s. The Ray’s 3 Ride Pro Invitational consists of 4 individual events and crowns an overall champion at the end of the weekend.

Building on the success of past Ultimate XC Challenge (UXC) contests held in conjunction with the Trans Rockies race in Canada, Race Face is pleased to announce that the 2007 Ultimate XC Challenge is going to Europe!

This jam is intended to keep up the energy level of riding through the winter. Think of this like the Softies Jump Jam, only it’s raining and we will be riding indoors.

For those more adventurous types there is also the Stevens Pass Snow Race on Feb.18th. Yep a downhill biker cross on the snow-it'll be sick.

Last Saturday, Mont-Sainte-Anne played host to one of the most talked about winter races – the BIKER-X event! Downhill bike fans in need of action put the pedal to the metal during a 4x Cross competition consisting of a furious 313 meter rush on snow. The event, in which 30 competitors took part, was presented at night, making it even more spectacular. Word on site confirmed that the new schedule was a welcomed change and a major success. Stay tuned for part 2 of the race, when competitors give it a second go at Stoneham, on February 24th.

Last weekend, the skiers in Leogang looked surprised when they saw a 200m long swath with big hills of snow and a digger embedded in a wooden construction next to the ski slope at the Schantei Lift in the city centre of Leogang. But latest when the first riders went down the course, everybody knew: That must be the Kona White Style. In front of 1300 spectators, this snow expression session took place for the second year in a row. 20 riders from five different countries mostly equipped their bikes with spiked tires and battled for glory and honour and 3,000 euros of prize money. All of them aimed to be the king of snow.

Hey folks, I just got this little note from my buddy Jason and I thought I'd pass it along. It reminds us that thieves aren't just out to get our bikes, they want all your toys. We need to keep an eye on all our valuables and do little things to prevent thefts of any degree.
