Looks like Farina got held up and decided not to do re-run due to being protected, I hope!

Rumors says that it looked like a broken hip. She has been heli-lifted and is conscious.

That sucks for Camille. Vali just posted a pic of the 2 of them and a Heal Up message. This season appears to be Vali's and I have a feeling she is about to start Athertoning the sport for a while now that she's 21.
  • 12 1
It seems like something bad happens to all of them sooner or later. Dangerous sport - maybe too dangerous. There are no flowers in those rock gardens. As for Camille - she always comes across as gutsy and gracious. Wish her well.

Emilie Siegenthaler posted on social media (not sure if IG) that it was the biggest crash of Cami's life, she was blown off the road gap by a gust of wind... stable, no serious head trauma or internal bleeding but lots of pain.

Pinkerton's 2:49 in juniors is looking pretty damn fast.

 @AppleJack76: Alzheimer? I don't even know her

Glad to see Goldstone back in the race.
  • 11 0
That kid is the real deal. Comes back from injury like it was nothing. Makes racing fun to follow just to see what he does.
  • 11 0
Cool to see Gee swing a leg over it again. 97th isn’t bad considering he’s still getting up to speed.
  • 11 0
so weird that loic, jackson and benoit all finished with .720 seconds

Seems like Camille got heavy wind at the big Road Gap and crashed there... Hope it's not to bad!
  • 18 0
That's what I have heard. Amelia Dudek was caught by the wind here in the Junior Finals as well. Hopefully, Camille isn't seriously hurt. We will provide an update once the details are ready to be shared.
  • 3 0
@edspratt: surprised it hasn't been more of an issue. that flag has been whipping at the start hut. someone yesterday had profile shot of the road gap and it's super exposed, nearly at the tops of the trees.
  • 2 0
It also happened in the junior finals before elite start...
  • 12 4
@edspratt: Dear Ed. Have you thought about including this information in the actual article? Like above the info from DorvalAM? You know, since you knew that already...
It would be great to get insights like that without having to go through the comment section. Just a thought.

I'm afraid it's pretty bad as in season-ending.
  • 6 1
Last Downtime podcast I heard Camille on, she said she realized she has to pin it and ride on the edge to get out of these 2nd place finishes, but both she and C. Kilmurray warned it was risky... Hopefully she is fine and can continue on...

Post surgery, Goldstone's still got the juice. Squeeze that orange till the last drop dude!
  • 5 0
someone told me yesterday he lost ~20 lbs after his surgery, it's crazy that he's still able to keep pace with the best! He must be like 100lbs now lol
  • 6 0
@11six: He has put most of the weight back on, he said he's about 3kg under his pre op weight.
  • 1 0
@11six: he has gained most of it back.

There could be mistakes or mechanical that could be playing as a major factor but besides that there seems to some other factor (may be the wind) that played some significant role in slowing down riders that went towards the end. Its not usual to see guys like Finn or Laurie to go 4-5 seconds behind the top qualifying time, unless they screwed up somewhere.
  • 3 0
Finn skipped two races because of an injury (including crankworx) so he might not be 100% yet
  • 1 0
@src248: yeah I am aware of that but from his recent media posts he looked hungry and was in a gametime mode. So I wondered.
Also same for Greenland with injury. I am just thinking there is more to the story and if climate(wind) had some role in this.
Lot of factors at play for any race for sure.
  • 1 0
Not how you want to see it happen, but with Cami's DNF and qualis being worth 50 points I think Vali just moved to the top of the season overall rankings. Lots more racing to come this weekend, of course - hopefully she goes on to solidify that lead!
  • 10 0
Not hoping for anyone in particular to take the lead. But I do love to see those who are battling for the lead are actually healthy and able to compete in all the races.
  • 2 1
@vinay: For sure. Along the same lines, it's too bad Miriam and Rachel are out.
  • 1 0
Do they give money prizes to the team that finishes first in the standings?

Anyway, FWIW, Specialized Gravity is currently first in the team standings and all 3 of their guys qualified in the top 10. (Bruni, Williams, Iles)

[Last year's overall team champion - Commencal Muc-Off - is in 9th, but that's no doubt due to Amaury and Myriam being out of action.]

"Do they give money to the team that has the most money"
  • 5 0
 Shoot. DNF for Cami :-(
  • 3 0
What happened? Injured or still good to race?
  • 4 0
@vinay: Another comment says they stopped racing for 45 minutes. So it does not seem good. I am sure we will know more soon.
  • 5 0
 Let’s hope she is ok
  • 1 0
@vinay: heli lifted out of there. Won't be racing.
  • 4 0
Top junior woman would have qualified 3rd! The youngsters are flying.
  • 6 0
 Erice is the next Vali
  • 3 0
Nice one Jacob solid return and in the mix!
  • 1 0
3 Irish riders in the top 30. Must be a record. Amazing to see from a country with no big mountain mountain biking at all. Our biggest mountains don't even have any trails on them.
  • 1 0
Let me get this straight...you get UCI points for qualifying but not semi-finals?
  • 1 2
You get points for quali, semi and finals. More points in the finals. I'm trying to find a link to the points scoring system, but the UCI website is shite and I can't find anything.
  • 10 0
@ajaxwalker: You get World Cup series points for Qualifying, Semi-Finals and Finals. Currently, no UCI Individual ranking points are given for Semi-Finals. So a rider can qualify as one of the fastest riders but if they don't make finals they will receive no UCI ranking points for the Semi-Finals, only World Cup series points.
  • 5 0
 @edspratt: Thanks.

Burning question: Did the UCI get their point system from Whose Line Is It Anyway?
  • 1 0
@edspratt: Oh i misunderstood the question. But now i'm even more confused with UCI points and world cup series points. Any links that give a rundown on how it all works?
  • 1 0
@ajaxwalker: there's global races that give you UCI ranking points needed to get into the World Cup series. When you do the series, you get points for Quali, Semi and Finals that go towards you're overall ranking in the series. Only if you make the final do you get UCI ranking points.
  • 2 0
Don't question UCI or points, chrismac70 will come out like batman defending the system.
  • 1 0
A Frenchman has to win this one. This has to be the most amount of races with out a French winner since Gwin.
  • 1 0
Good Quali for Ronnan and Dak. Looks like this race will be french dominance though

Your username inspired me to have a peek at your images. Wasn't disappointed Smile .
  • 1 0
Ah, thanks for the downvotes everyone. I thought it was an XR650 but missed the subscript telling me it is a Marino. Definitely looks pretty but indeed unrelated to your username.
  • 3 0
@vinay: thanks mate! No idea whats gone on & why you're getting downvotes, internet gonna internet I guess lol
  • 2 0
@curtiscycles: Yeah, I actually wasn't quite aware of Merino but it actually inspired me. Back when I worked as a shop rat, we also welded custom (road or trekking) bikes for customers and I really liked the process. Because the process took time, I really liked how these customers would frequently drop by for a chat and I could feel the excitement. So I knew one day I wanted that too. A couple of years ago I got the opportunity to have a custom BTR Ranger built and have been loving it every second. Unfortunately I recently (last week, after over five years of use) broke where the seattube joins the bottom bracket so I'll have to return it to have it repaired. From what I understand it will be fine so that's the nice part of steel. The bad part is that it is likely because of corrosion inside the seattube. I did spray it with WD40 every few months and all that, but apparently I should have kept a better eye on it than I already did. So yeah, my advice to you is, keep an eye on it. Both BTR as well as Curtis do have their instructions on their websites.

I now pulled out my old Cannondale Prophet but can't quite get along with the short front-center. So as for the Marino-inspiration, it seems like they can make a full suspension frame to which I can transfer nearly all parts from the Cannondale and/or share parts with the BTR. So yeah, thanks for that. If your username would have been "marinocycles" I might have not been trigged to have that peek. Until now, that is Smile .

@vinay: Nice! I love BTR and Curtis Bikes, they're just out of my budget atm so I went with a Marino. Very happy with the quality of the frame and the entire order process + the cost (just under £700 after shipping/import to the UK). I actually found out about Marino bikes because I came across Curtis Bikes & was like oh cool I'd love my own name on a frame haha

I did a lot of research into rust proofing and came across this thread on mtbr forums (www.mtbr.com/threads/anti-corrosion-product-shootout.1073581). I went with the fluid film which won the shootout, and I've used Copaslip on all contact points so hopefully I won't have to worry about rust too much. I usually strip and reasemble my bikes once a year anyways so that should be enough.

There's a group on Facebook called "Marino Bikes Owners Club" which is really good for asking any questions, very helpful community and Marino usually responds himself if no-one else answers.
  • 1 0
@curtiscycles: Thanks a lot for the advice. I wasn't using any rustproofing, just WD40 which clearly wasn't sufficient even though I did regularly take the bike apart too. My previous frame (which my daughter is riding now) was from DMR and I already used it for over ten years without any particular care about rust. I do think I did ride the BTR harder though, so that must have added to the process. My steel frame before the DMR was from Voodoo Cycles, which didn't get a chance to develop rust as I crashed it in a year.

Either way, first priority is to get the BTR up and running again. I kind of wanted to like the fully (which I got back in 2007) as much as I like my hardtail but geometry is key and the fully currently doesn't have that. I also realize that more bikes doesn't imply more riding so I couldn't quite get myself to throw a lot of money at a new frame AND all those changing standards. So yeah, the price for these Marino frames seems really nice especially considering there are so many options to get your preferred geometry and choose the appropriate interfaces and standards.

So yeah, thanks a lot for pointing me in the right directions Smile !

I crashed into a rose bush last night. :'(
  • 4 1
I've never seen a rose on the side of a trail. Did you crash riding down the sidewalk?

 @bocomtb: wild roses.
