MENTIONS:
@redbullbike
Urgh.
@scott-townes:
Name the last guy who won without pulling a big ass trick or two. It's also about the points.
remember when Gee Atherton came second without doing a single trick.......
Just line speed an flow
@scott-townes:
That vertical chute though, that him and strait hit, is my favorite rampage line ever
That was one of the GREATEST lines ever!!
Did forget that one, cheers.
So far at this event he's been Brandon, Fairclaw & Brendon, not like he's one of the biggest names in mtb or anything, must just drink the wrong poison.
What about Bizet? They refer to him as Biz'ett. If I were French, that would do my head in. Well, I'm not French and it still does my head in. I mean, how hard is it to research the pronunciation of twenty names?
WTF Red Bull?????
Figure last years top 18 have priority and he's not in it. Wasn't in the top 20 in 2015 either. 2014? Nope.
So he doesn't get a pass for prior years results. So he'd have to bump someone that's done better than he has... IF... IF he wants to do it. Not everyone does and not everyone's skillset translates. His wreck in 2015 was gnar. Dudes a beast but he's on a mission to be the best Slopestyle rider in the world right now. I don't think he's spent any time even considering Rampage this year let alone training for it.
Next year though... I wouldn't be surprised to see him in there next year.
Well INMHO its about the brands, I mean you cant 3 Scott riders or 5 Santa Cruz brands on the hill right?
It'll happen at some point. Some of these ladies right now are absolutely shredding. Boosting the huge jumps. Whip comps. All that.
But doing backflips off 40 foot cliffs. They're not there yet... yet.
Then risking that womans life for ratings. There just isnt a woman in the world ready to run that course along side the men... yet.
Not sexist. Id love to see it happen. I love seeing the ladies boost at the fest series stops. Casey brown is dope for one.
She is sponsored by red bull too.
I guess she could get into rampage if she wanted too. Maybe she is too worried about injury, because it is pretty dangerous.
And athertons top 20? Go look at the times. Look at 2016 when she dominated.
Vallnord... 76th.
Lourdes... 78th
Fort william she won by like 11 seconds. Against the men... 73rd.
Go back as many races as you want. Youll find she rarely finishes too 70 against the men. I honestly dont know if shes finished top 20 ever.
Really there's about a thousand riders I'd be stoked to watch ride rampage.
These guys are all amazing, I just wish we could have a lot more riders each year, and/or several events annually. I'm sure that would be a logistical impossibility though, and as far as safe and sane thought goes one rampage ever is too many. If it was a series people would be getting hurt too badly, and too much.
So, like every year I'm going to watch it about a hundred times and make all my non-cyclist friends and family watch it too. And I'm going to be happy as hell to do so
It is the same every year and we have seen it for some time now.
No, i don't think Rampage drives the industry forward.
The Fest Series seems like a much better concept for extreme mtb-riding, where the riders get to arrange it how ever they want it.
What I think is boring with rampage is: Same place(at least same kind of terrain), same concept(go there, build a line, ride it, compete on it, in way to short time according to some riders), and also the same riders. There are far more riders that I have not heard of before in Fest Series than in Rampage(a few newcomers some years, other than that it is the usual suspects.)
But to answer your comments: In Rampage, the riders still have to ride their lines at a certain time wether they feel ready or not.
The only thing the riders can arrange in Rampage is their lines. In Fest Series, the whole event is arranged by the riders.
In Fest Series I am sure all riders can come with input or constructive critisism, where i doubt anyone will listen when it comes to rampage.
In Cam Mccaul's interview with Brendan and Kyle the other day some one of them said that Fest Series is just not as much pressure as Rampage, and I believe that is because they can choose when to ride(or if to ride).
There has also been more stops on the fest series than just Loosefest, making the Fest Series more varied.
