Intense 951
This complete 951 Evo from Intense was fully decked out with the latest DVO suspension, SRAM XO1DH, Shimano Zee brakes and a Spank finishing kit. The Evo version benefits from 27.5" wheels, integrated fork bump stops and a 1/4" longer top tube than the older version and the M9. With rumours of a Top 5 World Cup DH rider joining a newly formed Intense Factory DH team, could this be the new team race machine?

Interbike 2014
There are many jaded faces lurking in the casinos, but our faces were turning green when we saw this DVO Jade shock, which is custom tuned for the 951 Evo. Colour co-ordination was on another level, including Spank's beautifully crafted new 25/30mm direct mount stem that was bolted to the Emerald fork. This 951 Evo is available now from your local Intense dealer at $7900 for the full bike, or as a frame/fork combo at $4800.

hmmmm

Maybe these guys pitched up at the wrong Expo?

Sony Action Cam

Sony were trying to keep things on the straight and narrow with this lovely pair. We've already mentioned the new smaller ActionCam being launched later this week, but they also have a new wrist mounted screen that can be used to see where you're pointing your camera and also to play back your videos.

Hunting rig

In Sin City you can have anything you want. One of the guys from Felt decided he wanted it all. An electric fat bike, with a trailer, camouflage, a carbon fiber compound bow, and a fishing rod.

Rotor cranks
Rotor is a company that wants more too, and they're offering not only a narrow/wide chainring, but it's ovalised too. This QX1 ring is available in 28/30/32/34/36t sizes, and has a 12.5% 'Ovality'. Rotor also offer rings with 10% Ovality and 0% for people who like things nice and round. They also offer 2 and 3 ring setups and loads of other sizes and spiders to fit nearly all crank types. Oval rings never really took off back in the day, but with the simplicity of setup on 1x systems gaining popularity these could become your next upgrade?

Interbike 2014
Cratoni has a new enduro helmet on the way called the All-Track. Its main feature being a dual position visor that can be raised to create room for stashing goggles, and the little yellow hook on the rear of the helmet keeps the goggle strap from popping upwards off the helmet. It weighs in at 320g, and comes in 2 sizes (S/M and M/L), with 17 air vents to keep you cool. It also features a removable camera or light mount. The internal padding uses memory foam to add comfort and the retention system has three height adjustments to fit. Available in Europe around December for €149 They are hoping to have them Stateside in Spring 2015.

Parking job

Judging by this guy's parking he either has a visual impairment or was desperate to get back to the slots.

Osprey pack.
Orange car, to orange pack. Osprey's 2015 Zealot pack has been evolved to meet the needs of the enduro mountain bike racer. Plenty of features including the Airscape back panel and an improved hip belt to keep it securely on your back. There's space for your helmet and protection, plus water and tools. The Zealot is available in 2 sizes, S/M and M/L and Atomic Orange or Charcoal colourways.

Hydration
A 3 litre Hydraulics Reservoir is included with the Zealot, which has a stiff back plate on the reservoir that can help to protect your spine and also keep its shape so all your water doesn't rush to the bottom of your pack, plus the handle to the front makes it nice and easy for you to hold on to when filling. The removable roll-out tool pouch lives in its own pocket at the bottom of the Zealot for quick access. The bite valve features a magnet to attach to the chest strap so it's always easy to locate. All this for $140.

Skids.

Our main reason for heading back to the outdoor demo today was to answer an age old question, can you do cutties on a fat bike? Yep, and much more easily than I thought.

Swimming

We'll carry on bringing you news from Vegas all this week - once we're done resting our tired feet.

When did Lopes buy a Charger?
  • 15 1
 LOL
  • 34 32
1)Does the 951 rear swing arm crack as easy as mine and a number of riding buddies did?

2)A new giant glory frame + fox 40 can be had for under $3k. Now I'm not that great at math but doesn't that leave you with about $1800 to spend on bars/stem/brakes/cranks etc? I love intense for what they stand for. A smaller american company making bikes in america. I just can't justify spending that much more on a frame and fork(I have paid for the intense name before). Not to mention replacing parts when they break because hey it's mountain biking!
  • 61 1
 *facepalm* Challenger...
  • 9 3
 Nice try sony!!
  • 8 7
Sony has the best value for the money IMO being able tobuy the highest action cam that IMO records better than gopro for half the price of a hero black.... that is enough for me

Also having seen bikes go for 10k (santacruz nomad and new demos) 8k for this intense with the highly hyped dvo suspension set is good enough for me also it has x0 components....
  • 10 3
2 things, No the new 951 swing arms dont crack anymore only the G3 rear were prone to cracking second the second thing that Sony is not better than the gopro when recording and the sound is even worst when reaching any kind of speed.
  • 4 4
That's why I stated IMO several times and as I said in my experience and for my needs it is better
  • 10 1
Oh, the person with the Challenger is handicapped alright, just morally handicapped

For what its worth, the DVO suspension is not competitive cost wise with a 40 rc4 combo
  • 4 1
I realize that the dvo is more than a 40 but I still remember paying about 2700 for my 951 frame. You can get a glory frameset for 1800. They're both aluminum, and I'm not current on intenses crash replacement but I totalled the front triangle on my glory and got a new one for $300. The replacement rear swing arm for the 951 was $500. Intense isn't doing anything more fancy they're just charging more! Make a 951 frameset $1800 or even less and you will take a lot of customers back.
  • 2 0
I just don't see why intense hasn't moved over to fully hydroformed tubes like every other company. that weld down the centre of every tube looks gross and its just another spot for potential failure.
  • 1 1
Sony is good but offers different characteristics over the Gopro, but the body design is just simply more logical in almost every aspect except for a chest-mount. Sony as whole is bigger than Gopro, but it's a matter of how much resources are being committed/technology + marketing, the experience in years GP currently has solely focused on action cams, and it's reign over the action cam market just due to the fact there has been literally no one competing against them. Maybe that will change for good within the next year or so.

@ Nismo,
The way the seattube is designed on the 951, with those two non-seperate joints that branch to the seattube isn't practically possible to make with a single tube of alloy tubing. 2 separate sides-halves of the tube can be hydroformed though then just welded together. The weld itself is usually 'stronger', but the area next to the weld (w/ proper heat treatment) is technically 'weaker' therefore possibly more spots of potential failure. Obviously less welds can be more simple and better, but there is only so much you can do without welding. Imo, while it looks nice, i think it's pretty unnecessary and only making it harder for the welder and mfr process. More welds does somewhat allow more chances for mess-ups during fab..and with loose QC.. Santa Cruz has got things dialed and always has. Never do they release a bike that has had durability problems. Always proper design, real testing, and focus on making a solid bike, rather than a throwaway bike.

@ Tmackstab I award you comment of the day!!! You woulda won comment of the month but it's a Challenger. Still, helluva great comment!

  • 6 7
which lovely pair are we talking about here?
  • 21 3
If you saw the pair of camera first. I've bad news for you.
  • 4 1
do you come with the action-cam? ho ho ho
  • 6 0
 Ohhh you, tee hee hee
  • 8 0
Lovely pair indeed. The cameras were nice too.
  • 47 6
Am I the only one who got a boner out of that That 951.. It looks killer..I think Sam Hill is switching teams..
  • 9 2
Sad that it's come to 8k being "reasonable", but honestly, $7900 doesn't seem that extravagant for what you're gettin there.
  • 27 0
I reckon it will be Danny hart. His giant contract is up I think
  • 7 0
I'm 100% with you on that one mate.. I heard that during the commentaries at worlds...
  • 12 3
What about Gwin moving to Intense? He has had not such great results with Specilaized. He's also buddies with the Warrens who rode Intense for a long time. Just guessing.
  • 23 1
i think its mulally, he's an american and thats what the whole push of palmer is for, to get the top tier of american riders on intense, and i don't believe gwin's contract is up this year.
  • 10 0
naa, i dont think Gwin will change sponsors, he hade some badluck this season, but some great ones, i think Danny Hart will be moving..
  • 17 1
Looks nice, but a little surprised with the zees, rather than saints. Cost cutting on a $7900 bike?
  • 11 3
I do not think i could ever justify a 951. A team mate had a 2012 951. He rode less than half a season on it, the downtube looked like the moon. Craters everywhere.
  • 2 0
I don't imagine that this will be the race bike, because of what Bernat Guardia has been riding this season
  • 5 0
Is is second in the world cup finish..."not such great results."
Not saying he is or isn't moving. Gosh he must live 15 minutes from their HQ near Temecula.
  • 2 0
Junior rider... Loris Vergier or Luca Shaw maybe Taylor Vernon?
  • 2 1
a top 5 rider.. either Gwin or Brosnan, I wouldn't be surprised either way. It would make more sense to hire Gwin since he's a local american and considering the recent news with Palmer.
  • 1 1
isn't minnars contract up just now
  • 2 0
 Sam on the Syndicate!
  • 2 1
 +1 @Turboute, I think Danny Hart too
  • 1 0
I'm suprised the didn't put XO. brakes on it being everything else is....
  • 2 5
i went as floppy as the wheels when i got to 27.5"
  • 1 3
Danny Hart would have won more if he was on a reyt bike. I doubt it's him though, he's the best thing that happened to Giant since Tomac. They'll be keeping his palms greased. I reckon it's Minnaar. He already lives in the area, he's out of contract, and SC won't want to pay three big dogs. CRC won't be letting Sam Hill go I wouldn't have thought.
  • 1 0
I thought he had a waaay better year than last year..
  • 2 2
SC has been paying "3 big dogs" for a while now. Or do You mean Bryceland's salary will have to increase after this year? Anyway, yeah, could me Minnaar too.

Hello, this is dr Sigmund Freund - tell me, what do you feel when you are speculating stuff that will happen to people you never met, stuff that will never ever affect your life, you have what you believe are reasons, arguments, knowledge to base them on, and then few months later it turns out how you predicted... get into this moment, visualize it... yes... you don't feel chance, instead you feel connection to another dimension, some ancient passage to where we came from, the tower of wisdom is open - I see it coming in you... I f*cking told you! Fills your heart, you can't keep it in! the door shuts and you scream GALLILEO! Gallileo! GALLILEO! Gallielo! MAGNIFICOOooooOOOOoooo - you open internet page, find a window to write a comment in and you channel your experience... is it like that? - yes I thought as much...

There's SC intense and intense gopro, as well as the intense factory race team.
  • 2 0
@mendelmu great insight thanks. I don't know what kind of person would give you negatives for giving us interesting information.

Regarding the Shaun Palmer thing, what a load of useless hype it is. There are hundreds of people better qualified than him to do that job, unless the job is purely to generate hype.
  • 2 0
I have nothing to Palmer, I have never met the guy, I was not into MTB when he was racing so... Excuse me but I have not developed and I am unable to develop any emotional attitude towards him and his achievements. All I can do is to numbly recognize him as a great athlete. The point of this rant is: just as 99% of people screaming "LEGEND!" here. All these people do by saying so, is they feed their inferiority complex, they (unconsiusly) expect some sort of gratitude for recognizing a hero. In this they are on guard to smack anyone who questions their attitude, they sadly recognize it as an attack on the hero himself (just as it was in Gwin Muricah case) using his undeniable, real status as a mean to render oppositions arguments faulty. This conflict is what boosts asslickers ego, the fact that he is right, and the opponent is wrong. It is like throwing the glove if you like. He just cannot get that it is him being criticized not the hero.

Palmer riding for intense? Meh
  • 3 1
@jaame - being able to generate hype is an invaluable skill that not many possess. Palmer is a pro at it, even if that's all he achieves then he's probably good value for Intense.
  • 1 0
@jaame Don't thank me, thank TeamRumours, same guy who been providing inside info for the last two years.

Weird. I thought the whole point of getting Palmer was to build an American team.
  • 2 0
I believe he's there to mentor groms. "Intense’s Jennifer Gabrielli, who also got her start racing downhill aboard an M1, said that Shaun will be operating a development racing program, comprised of young talent that Palmer will hand-pick and mentor."

According to UCI website:

1 (2)Josh BRYCELAND 1647
2 (1) Troy BROSNAN 1535
3 (3) Samuel BLENKINSOP 1441
4 (4) Gee ATHERTON 1411
5 (7) Matthew SIMMONDS 1251

www.uci.ch/mountain-bike/ranking

But that doesnt seem right...
  • 4 0
Top five rider can be interpreted a few different ways: top five overall, one that has achieved at least a top five result (huge list), or one that generally can be considered a top five threat. Could be someone like Blenki, Mulally, or Simmonds.
  • 10 3
Sweet Jesus that Intense is beautiful.

That 3 litre Hydraulics Reservoir included with the Zealot is disastrous. This is THE WORST system to wash and dry your watter bag. endurorider.pl/2013/02/source-widepac-3l is much better and easy to use.

 and it tastes like plastic
  • 1 1
Actually, NO it doesn't. I had couple of water bags in my life and Source is the best by far as durability and quality goes.

That 951 is probably the nicest bike iv ever seen. Just looks fast sitting there.

just looks fast sitting there

just sayin'

Really though, you coulda picked a nicer bike than a Yamaha to make that point!

I'm getting me a Husqvarna TE 250 and a jet ski. Should run me about the same. :0

Biopace - Shimano had it in the early '90. back to the future.

 $7900!
Wat a joke!
My dirt bike was cheaper, and much better.
Intense should outsource to China, hey, why not?
Everyone's doing it. Haha!
  • 2 0
Can someone explain the benefits of an oval ring please
  • 3 0
Concept is pretty straight forward as I understand it, riders can't impart much power as pedals cross the top and bottom of the stroke, so ovalize the chainring to effectively down-shift where one can't push, and make it taller where one can.
  • 3 0
Didn't Shimano have oval rings 20 years or so ago?
  • 3 0
Yup, BioPace. They died a slow and painful death thankfully.
  • 3 0
These guys are claiming that BioPace basically had the rings ovalized in the wrong direction I think. The concept is pretty sound, IMO, aside from the fact that your RD will have to be able to take up the variation in diameter through the pedal stroke, which might be bad for retention or efficiency. But the great part is that it basically gives you a higher gear in the most powerful part of the stroke and a lower gear in the weakest part. If you get the ovalization right you should be able to produce power much more smoothly.
  • 2 0
bkm303 is exactly right, Shimano had the Biopace rings ovalise in the wrong way (ie harder to turn at the top of the stroke). Their argument was that shape would produce a smoother power output rather than have gaps. I rode Biopace myself for a few weeks some years back and found it 'weird', was definitely smoother, but it didn't feel any more efficient and I just didn't feel right, so I ditched them and have kept them in a box to teach future generations hahaha!
  • 1 0
What do oval chain rings do and how are they an advantage? I have no idea personally.
  • 14 0
they suppres this "zero point" when your pedal are at 6 o clock. But since Neko The Great, we all know pedaling is useless.
  • 2 0
They also fuck up your knees if not set up correctly. They are also meant to make you feel the power transfer earlier but it just felt awkward when I rode one.
  • 1 0

 Compound bow, not a crossbow.
  • 1 2
Made me want to go huntin. Be a short hunting trip though. You figure the best range on a usual ebike is about 50 km. On flat tarmac without knobbys a head wind any gradient and some pedalling. So hunting in the mountains with all this gear going offroad on knobby fat tyres your looking at 20km max. 10 there and ten back. Add the weight of a deer carcass and your battery dying on the last big hill and your trip is going to suck. Even hunting rabbits I was at my best able to hit 6 out of 10 rabbits with a compound bow from 10 metres when they were in plague proportions in Australia in the 90's. In the USA your lucky to see 1 rabbit in 10km. I'd still buy it though if I had the cash to waste.
