by Ed Spratt
We use Slack as our workplace communication tool at Pinkbike and we have a #randoms channel that we use to share an assortment of videos and stories from all corners of the cycling world and beyond... We thought a couple of the moments from the past week were too good not to share with a wider audience, so here are some of the highlights.

Korea Open's Indoor Cycle Gymnastics Championship 2023

Mondraker DH Bike History | 2001 - 2024 Race Bikes

bigquotesDownhill Racing is in Mondraker’s DNA, and in this video Doddy checks out the progression of bike design from our first DH bike back in 2001, all the way through to the brand new prototype race bike.Mondraker TV

Game of B.I.K.E with Brendan Fairclough and Jono Jones

bigquotesRiding mountain bikes with Jono Jones is never dull and this time was no exception. I met up with Jono for a bike ride and it turned in to the most insane game of B.I.K.E of the year. I would say an MTB frenzy tearing around the woods trying to beat each other at there own game.

Had such a fun time riding with Jono, can't wait for round 2. We ran out of time so will have to be continued next time.

Tomas Slavik's POV run from Downhill Urbano Manizales 2024

bigquotesI have to say when I look at the final run which got me into 2nd place by 0,38 s is probably one of the most insane. Super gnarly compressions, wild stair sections, huge gaps and crazy spectators! This was Downhill Urbano Manizales 2024.....fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!Tomas Slavik

Cafe Ride with Tom Pidcock

bigquotesRegarded as Britain's most versatile bike rider, Tom Pidcock joins presenter and former national road champion Matt Stephens for the Sigma Sports Cafe Ride.

Setting off on a drizzly morning in late November, Matt and Tom rode an easy route to a local cafe near his winter residence in Belgium. There, they discussed Tom’s goals for a jam-packed racing season in 2024, with plenty of laughs about aerodynamic vegetables and the hierarchy of biscuits along the way.

The ride concluded with a trip to the town of Boom to visit a cycling museum and to tackle a lap of the cyclocross circuit, where Tom won a World Cup race in 2022.

Listen to the story of how cycling fuelled his desire for adrenaline and made him achive big dreams.
Special thanks to Lamborghini Antwerp.

You can learn more about Cycle Gymnastics in my new book, "101 Cycling Sports With More Global Viewership Than EDR."

More like: "101 Cycling sports that are more legitimate than e-bike racing"

The secret to Cycle Gymnastics success? You can actually watch it . . . if you're so inclined.

I find it is more fun to watch than EWS on TV..

@Muscovir: nothing wrong with racing mopeds. I'm not interested in it though.

Road cycler advertising a car is a bit like a US school kid advertising an automatic rifle.

nah, that's Bicycling Magazine recommending the F-150 as the ultimate e-bike accessory

Considering a certain kid famously used an AR to kill someone recently, I could see that happening.

Bicycle gymnastics is what happened when you had a stationary bike at home and your kids decided to use it. Then you yell at them they are gonna break it and they show you this video somehow making me the asshole.

 Haha, love it.

That frame building vid was a good watch, I’m currently 6 months into an apprenticeship in fabrication/welding and we’re currently doing TiG in the workshop, it’s hard AF but it looks so clean and is satisfying to do once you start getting good results.

I actually knew about the way he cut his tubes before this, it’s called fish mouthing and it’s his motorsport Fabricators make up roll cages. You do it so the tubes perfectly match up to each other, wouldn’t really say he was using basic tools though. Basic for a machine shop maybe but the average welder ain’t got a bandsaw in their garage to make these cuts lol!

 Well aren’t you smart?

You can tubing notch with a simple tool called a “Joint Jigger” that is pretty inexpensive. You can also fish mouth with a flap wheel although it takes some experience.

@KK11: look everyone. The racist is back!

@BalfaPleaseComeBack: you would assume his name along with his user image would be enough to ban him. K being the 11th letter...not so subtle...
  • 2 1
@takeiteasyridehard: name is an obvious dog whistle, user image is the chicken from the polish flag though pretty sure thats acceptable.

@RonSauce: Ah. I am not very hip to that stuff, and assumed it was some hate group logo...

Imagine if we are all wrong...and KK are his initials, and 11 has some other significance...

Bike gymnastics, probably still helps to have a bmx background

Someday a young man will take over supercross and he will credit his bike gymnastics background.

I thought indoor cycle gymnastics would just be the bike company CEOs sitting in a board room justifying their prices.

Travis rice is one of the most impressive athletes in the world IMO. The lines he takes and the complete runs he does at speed are mind blowing.
  • 10 0
Why does cycle gymnastics exist when artistic cycling is already way more entertaining and probably a lot more difficult?
  • 6 2
Yeh right, exercise bike gymnastics - what a joke. I'd like to see them try a few basic bmx flatland tricks.
  • 4 0
It's super excuting! I mean, look at the crowds!
  • 4 2
@tremeer023: I'd like to see you try a few basic bike gymnastics tricks.
Why not just appreciate the skills participants of both sports have, instead of the unsubstantiated 'this sport is way harder' nonsense?
  • 14 8
@tremeer023: It might be a joke, but it's still less ridiculous than e-bike "racing".

@WhateverBikes: yeh whatever, each to their own. But surely this is cycling gymnastics: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3AccKQYgZk

That's it! I'm putting together a team of some of Squamish's top riders. We're headed to Korea for the 2024 Indoor Cycle Gymnastics Championship. It won't be easy, and the odds are against us, but with a little bit of belief, some creative costumes, and a whole lot of beer, we think we can really make things happen!

I've watched too many of the those Cafe ride vids now, they're quite good. Be cool if someone did some with mountain bike athletes though, not that Piddock isn't but you know what I mean.

would never have found any of these on my own and they are all great for their own odd reasons, thanks PB

Don't worry, Discovery will be along shortly to ruin Indoor Cycle Gymnastics
  • 4 0
As long as they are not run by uci, they should be ok.
  • 3 1
it should be a stupid great year ! Nice! Never boring. Doddy got the job we all want! Yes EDR needs a re-boot. WB could boot the whole commentary team. They are not anywhere near a Hollywood standard. Red Bull has changed since the passing of one of its founders and the head of Red Bull, media house leaving. Teams will be pounding on the doors of companies outside of the bike business. As they should always do, and finding real money.

Who's the nerd on the Mondraker vid?

Dooooooooooooooooooooooooody!!! We found you! Come back Doddy, all is forgiven. Wink

I’ve seen better spin gymnastics at the free spin classes at the public gym in ATL!

Cycle Gymnastics will be one of the olympic sports sooner than downhill. Ask Dick Pound...
  • 4 0
Personally I'm cool with that, DH has already got enough problems without the IOC getting involved.

@commental: You may be right, actually Wink

Bicycle gymnastics could be helpful for MTB. Need to get that one-legged pedaling technique dialled for resting one leg when cramping or even a mid-ride pee

I try to be an open minded guy, but I gotta draw the line at “Indoor Cycling Gymnastics.” C’mon, y’all. C’mon.

The Mondraker adverts begin. I'm already into 'em but curious how much they spend on PB advertising over the course of this year.
