Thanks to continual support and requests from Alberta based riders, and in no small part to the fantastic promotion on pinkbike last summer, the Sugoi Dirt Series will make its first appearance outside BC on the 5-6 of July.

Steve Peat wasn't letting the ankle injury he suffered in the Fort William 4-X slow him down on Mont Saint Anne'super short DH. Blazing the course in just 1:41.17, Peat narrowly beat Greg Minnaar by just 6/100ths of a second followed by style master, Cedric Gracia. On the women's side, it was the UK on top as well with Fionn Griffiths taking top spot, followed by fellow countrywoman, Tracey Moseley and Marla Streb of the US. The short course, new for this year's World Cup, took its toll on the riders, with Fabien Barel and Johnny Waddell both reportedly taken from the course unconscious.
The top canadians are closing fast with Jordie Lunn placing 11th and Dustin Adams 15th. Nice work!

Sudlow's Psychosis Synopsis Sudlow's Psychosis Synopsis
I packed most of my gear and did all my bike adjustments on Wednesday afternoon. This was going to be my ‘biggest’ race of the year and I didn’t want anything silly to be a problem, especially since we were going to be at the top of a mountain for 4 days with little contact to the outside world. Then it was off to Derek Lee’s birthday and home to hang with Cathy before the 4 day camping trip. Cath and I were actually thinking of re-joining Derek on his birthday at the pub but I’m glad we didn’t. I was going to need all the energy I could muster for the rest of the week. (It was pouring rain all evening in Calgary).

Mike Kinrade Suffers Broken Collarbone in Whistler Mike Kinrade Suffers Broken Collarbone in Whistler
After barely being cleared to ride again after his unscheduled meeting with a large hemlock tree in early May, Mike Kinrade suffered a broken collarbone jumping Whistler Bike Park's sub-box yesterday. According to Mike, he came up just short enough to clip his rear tire, tossing him into the dirt, breaking his collarbone. Mike had successfully jumped the entire box earlier in the day. This should have no bearing on MPF's shooting schedule, although Mike is expected to be out of commission for at least the next 6 weeks.

All 88 qualifying competitors staged a brief "sit down" protest complaining of the poor 4-X course at the Alpe d'Huez World Cup this weekend. With very few jumps, berms and many of the features that 4X is famous for, riders compared the course to little more than a shortened DH track. In her one planned World Cup stop of the year, Anne-Caroline Chausson was eliminated in an early round and failed to podium in the discipline. Eric Carter has stepped up in his countryman Brian Lopes' absence (broken tibia) and took top spot in the event. By all accounts (and I've seen many accounts), this World Cup, especially when compared to the stellar Fort William stop last weekend, would be unanimously voted the worst WC event in years.

Cheers!
The boys are back for the 24 street session tour, it's nothing serious, just one hell of a good time. Its not a competition or a tupperware party. The idea is to meet local riders and just ride!

you read this, freeride improvements and additions are being made to
a classic 7000 vertical foot heli-biking trail, which will be a part
of every trip this summer.

Whether you're racing from the top or 5K, you won't be disappointed, the psychosis is the gnarliest race of the season! The Golden Cycling Club has been hard at work buffing the course and the prize pile is, umm, piling up! Visit the Psychosis pages for more information about the event, registration and to view the video from last year's running.

Skytrain now takes Bikes Skytrain now takes Bikes
Skytrains running in Vancouver BC are finally allowing bikes on their trains, legally. For years Skytrain security in has objected to people taking their bikes with them onto the trains, whether it was to ride around the more scenic parts of the city, ride to work from a closer location, or get to their favorite skate or dirt jump park. Starting June 1st this is all changing - during 'a trial period' they will allow individuals to travel on board with their bikes. It's about time.

A new season for the Bteam A new season for the Bteam
We managed to make a few day trips to Invermere but the Easter Long weekend was the real kick off to the new season. It was strange because even though we were lucky enough to ride all the way to Christmas day last year it seemed like an eternity since our last road trip. Aaron (Cro-Mag) and I were glad to put and end to our winter induced plotting and scheming over what this year would hold for us and just get out and RIDE. . . .

After countless months of planning and weeks of
trail clearing and preparation, TerraLogic Park Industries is pleased to
announce that the grand opening weekend was a huge success. With extremely

Extreme Downhill Mountain Biking Banned at Beaver Extreme Downhill Mountain Biking Banned at Beaver Creek
The Grand Junction Sentinel recently reported Beaver Creek Mountain near Denver Colorado will ban "extreme" downhill mountain biking. The article quotes Beaver Creek representatives who blame excessive speed (20MPH?) user conflict and erosion for the ban. Local riders are especially disappointed as there's talk of nearby Vail Mountain following suit.

Interviewed - Shaums March Interviewed - Shaums March
I still remember the first time I ever saw Shaums March. It had to be way back in 1994 or so. He was gracing the cover of a mountain bike mag (can't remember exactly which one) pulling a huge nac-nac on a Mountain Cycle San Andreas. Here we are almost 10 years later, he's still around and he's still one of the best. He is, bar none, the most approachable pro athlete I've ever met.

Here's what he had to say...

Is It Possible to Make Money In the Bike Biz? Is It Possible to Make Money In the Bike Biz?
It seems every time I open my inbox, there's another email asking about job opportunities and the education choices required to make a living in many facets of the bike industry. With that in mind, I've begun a series of "interviews and profiles" showcasing some of the folks who have chosen one or more aspects of this great sport as their livelihood. You'll see what it takes to earn a decent living on or around your bike. I'll begin the series with Shaums March's take and in the coming weeks you'll see filmmakers, bike makers, photographers, designers, shop owners and any other folks I can coerce into talking. Check back later tonight for Shaums' interview, it's been taking a while to transcribe one handed
