 Indeed. NS certainly has style. They did show lots of decent looking bikes at Eurobike 2017.

 Disappointed to see it in aluminum. Steel hardtail frames are close in price and ride significantly better than aluminum. It's almost as if any manufacturer making a "hardcore hatdtail" doesn't realize this, may not actually be that hardcore about hardtails.

 Some of us actually care about the weight of a hardtail. I for one, like my 25lbs aluminum hardtail, and I run tires big enough to the edge off. I don't like my hardtail weighing the same as my 160mm full suspension.

 @PHeller: Besides that if it's not a custom built steel hardtail with tubing selected for your weight it's not going to be any less stiff than an aluminum bike. Especially on these AM hardtails with short chainstays, there just isn't that much tubing to flex and absorb. If they built it without a weight limit, so that 220lb guys aren't complaining it's a noodle, then it's going to ride stiff as a board for a 180lb rider. You'd feel more difference from a 0.1psi change in tire pressure than from a change to steel or aluminum in a stock production bike. Steel can be made to give a forgiving ride, but that has to be the goal, and the designer needs to know the person's weight to do it well. It's not worth the 2-3lbs in weight that you're giving up for the steel frame unless you go custom and have it actually built for your weight and riding intentions.

 @PHeller: I like my xc hardtail to be 23 lbs. But on a "hardcore hardtail", I want the weight and geometry to mimic my 31 lb , slacked out 160mm "enduro" bike. So the weight of steel is a non-issue.

 Love that little Hope bike. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into it. Nice to see bike companies thinking outside the box to open doors and encourage more kids to get into biking. Kudos Hope, you guys are doing a really top job in many different respects.

 Just wondering, have they redesigned the brake levers so that kids can actually use them? In my experience the handlebars of kids' bikes aren't really thinner compared to "adult" bikes so they usually can just hold the grips, but can't really reach for the brake lever let alone use it effectively. With Hope being in the position now to make everything as they see fit, I'm curious whether they did something in this department.

Other than that, this program is a great way to get kids riding bikes we ourselves find of acceptable standards too.

 @vinay: The levers can be pulled right in super close to the bar, so a child could use it easily

 I was speaking to a parent about these at my local trail last week. His lad had a top spec 26" hard tail dripping in hope and said it cost £23 a month including maintenance. That sounded like a bargain to me!

 @ryanme: it's not that simple. My 6 year old daughter has shimano levers which are probably the smallest on the market and they don't work perfectly. We tried Elixirs and Tektros that came stock and Shimanos work best. Maybe Hope works even better but still it's not that easy as it seems with reach adjustment.

 @WAKIdesigns: Shimano levers are small but they dont pull in as well as hope from experience, I guess it comes down to the rider!

Good point about the bar diameter and how it relates to braking. Full sized adult bars and kids pushie bars are all 22.2mm. I was also very surprised to learn that when i got new grips for my son's pushie. I was telling the guys in the shop that adult grips won't fit because the pushie has smaller diameter bars... but it hasn't.

Santa Cruz Juliana bikes have a smaller diameter isn't that so? Anyone know what it is?

 @tineira: and @jaame: yes,i'm quite sure it's an early rider frame. Their 20" bikes come with disc brakes alright.
Early rider are also working with Hopetech to create their custom bikes that you can see on their blog, so it's natural that this is also done the other way round.

 @jaame: Pretty mental, isn't it? We're seeing change of dimensions all over the place often for "improvements" many of us probably won't even sense. And then they can't even get something essential like handlebar diameter right. Of course many components are built around the current size but then again many kids can easily do without. Remotes, computer mounts, lights, bell... Much of these they don't really need on their mountainbike. The brake is essential though. I think it doesn't need to be such a huge modification, especially with brakes with a split clamp. Just position a small insert on one side and put on a different other clamp (or matchmaker if that's what you're using). The ghetto solution obviously is to just put a piece of old tube underneath (don't act as if you don't know what that is anymore). A versatile and not even too hard solution would be to slide some kind of lock-on type sleeve over the handlebar before you put the (smaller) grips on. Requirement of course is that the brakes have sufficient reach adjustment or they offer a different brake lever.

It really isn't too hard. The point is us older riders are vocal on the internet where the manufacturers are looking whilst the kids are just riding their bikes as well as it goes. So if we stand up for them too maybe the manufacturers take note and release a smaller diameter handlebar. And hopefully first get together to decide on which diameter it is going to be!

 @jaame: Excellent idea, I'll take that. Tonight I'll take the handlebars from her bike, tomorrow I'll take it to the workshop, clamp it in a lathe and spin it down to 18.99mm. If I machine an equal amount from the brake clamp it should fit just fine.

I have no effing clue why an adult can source a 29” tyre which is lighter than my daughters 20” one. 200g rim on 20 spokes and 300g tyre. i mean I know why, companies outs their heads into their butts because of US of A lawsuit bullsht. Same fkng reason why Shimano puts Encyclopedia Brittanica sized instructions into every fricking box with their products. Who knows how many thousands of hectares of forests go to fkng safety instructions every year, while it could just state: give it to your mechanic. All other usage at your own risk and it may void warranty. But they do it so that no fkng idiot gets hurt in the process. Idiots are meant to get hurt by their stupidity, this is the only we get smarter. Same here for kids. Oh my kid crashed and handlebar broke! Accidents and owners responsibility don’t exist, only fat lawyer wallet does.

 @vinay: i bought my three year old a woom 3 for that exact reason. The brakes are designed so my kid can actually use them. The whole bike was very well thought out and made the transition from the strider a cakewalk

 I don't see the problem. With compression or even sag the room will only increase here and there's good clearance already. Those fabric cageless bottles are great by the way.

 @unclesomebody: I can't see the problem anyway. In almost all full suspension bikes the bottle cage is close to some moving part. This does not seem anyhow more dangerous then others.

 Clearly they designed the bike around the bottle, so the bike might suck but man it's a great bottle holder.

 The bike actually rips don't know if you've had the chance to ride one but I got mine late last season and rode everything from sun peaks bike park and Jack the Ripper and phd in pemby to a local xc race and put down the second fastest lap time. @teschenbrenner:

 Really?!? I think it looks great, not the colours I'd have picked but for the brand it's amazing. I think Ali @FatCreations pretty much has the Midas touch when it comes to bikes. What did you think of the Bernard Kerr Pivot?

 I thought it looked fine. A nice baby blue with orange branding. This looks absolutely nothing like it. Pink lightning bolts are usually a very bad idea and this is no exception. Yes it's the brand color scheme, but that's no excuse for a horrid paint job. It's unpleasantly visually jarring.

 Funny thing. I ran into an e-bike rider at the end of my ride on Saturday. While my wife and I had the 'just finished a good workout' look, this nice fellow didn't look like he had even broken a sweat. But the LEDs on the down tube sure were fancy.

 I ran into an e-bike rider. He was riding the bike without the seat on. He seemed really happy.

 @Hoob93: I believe the machine you're looking for is a motorcycle, which is actually a good invention. What is not useful is inventions for people to pretend to be mountain bikers in order to take advantage of trails that are restricted to human power only.

 @casman86: ye those sneaky motorbikers will do anything to destroy our trails, now they're disguising themselves as mountain bikers. I don't understand what the big deal is the wheel doesn't spin on an e bike like it does on a motorbike. I've had a few trails ruined by motorbikes I don't think an e bike can leave a two foot rut.

 I thought the new Orange T7 and new build kits for the Five and Alpine were there too. Instead PB reports an e-bike but doesn't go in any depth. As long as you have enough material to start another pointless rant in the comment section this article is going to generate clicks...

 @bman33: I know, Fat Creations are only a few miles from my house. its a marmite bike, love or hate. He does amazing work, but that is just horrific, totally hides the lines of the bike.

 This is a UK show and that's how they do it in the UK. Not sure why; just how it is. Note that all the bikes are set up left-hand rear.

 Raw aluminum frame is nice, but I agree the blue decals look like crap. All the RAW frames should have black decals. And yes, the stealth black ones are sweet.

 Somehow agree.... but I just broke the rear wheel (26/142) of my Rune, used an old one (26/135) while waiting for the new wheel (27.5/150) to arrive... all with dropout changes. Feels pretty 2018 for me.

 @jzPV: Really? Geez I never would have guessed that. This is why I'm not an engineer I guess, amongst many other reasons. To my untrained eye it looks just like a Hightower's rear suspension setup or something you'd see on an Intense.

 @yupstate: VPP never has a pivot in the chainstay. That DMR above for example is a VPP, but others like the Banshee are short link 4 bars or parallel links like DW-link or whatever people call them and the Yeti in that list above is also some kind of short link but not comparable due to the linear movement of the lower suspension pivot (switch infinity).
