Ya, he can replace Will White in my opinion. Has White even qualified for finals before?
  • 46 9
not yet, it'll help if his bike holds up and if his line doesnt get poached by some inconsiderate twat waffle
  • 24 0
No Garett Buehler either. This will be two years in a row. I wonder if it is his choice...
  • 11 5
Smith- Jaws is one of my favorite freeriders but many, many, many people will disagree with you on that. Wil is super fun to watch and he did qualify for finals once... on a bike where the fork alone weighs more than most complete rigs. But that's not a deciding factor as to who gets invited back as most don't ever make it to finals for one reason or another. A lot can happen out there... btw WHERE ARE THE TICKETS!!!
  • 4 0
 Tickets are Sold Out.

I want to give this so many more props!

Hopefully Granieri isn't a dick again and stays clear of Will White.
  • 10 2
@Smith249 Wil White qualified for finals in 2012 at 18 years old riding a pretty antiquated 45 lb bike, got screwed on his score (just like Norbs and TMac that year) and finished 12th overall. The crowd there was going absolutely bonkers for his run and lots of boos followed the scoring. He also qualified for finals in 2013 and pretty much had the same thing happen with scoring. Maybe a bias against the non sponsor/big name dudes, maybe a lack of respect for guys that prefer natural features over slopestyle, I don't know. Dude definitely deserves a place in the show. Here's his 2012 finals run for reference: www.redbullusa.com/cs/Satellite/en_US/Video/Wil-White-second-run-from-Red-Bull-Rampage-mountain-bike-Final-in-Utah-021243269312895

How did he get robbed?!? Has Jaws proven himself at Rampage? No he hasn't... Nor had that yard Will White. Waste of 2 spots in my eyes.
  • 6 0
@mdg3d Garett chooses not to compete in most events anymore. He really just isn't the competitive type and the risk is to great to him. I'm sure if he wanted in, he'd be in.
  • 4 0
@Catch22 I guess I never realized he did so well, I wasn't trying to take anything away from him. There's no question he has skill on a bike, I'm more curious as to why we don't see more events like this. There are a lot more big mountain riders than slope style riders I feel.
  • 2 0
@Smith249 Slope is a much easier even to create and run, you just need a field with a bit of a slope to it and some guys with skills and a digger. for a rampage style even you need a super gnarly spot where you can dig without it being a protected area. They are also much harder for spectators to get to generally.
  • 1 0
Smith- When Rampage was discontinued and wasn't sure if it was coming back, they were searching for another area/venue to have it. Aside from the Gobi desert (where it may head to from some insane rumors I've heard), Virgin is so far the only feasible option. That was a couple years of searching. The lines will be all used up after this year so it'll be interesting to see what happens if they want to stay as true as possible to the idea behind Rampage.

This douche got 2 tickets and is only asking $195 each. Feel free to contact him with your thoughts.
Meanwhile actual freeride enthusiasts couldn't get tickets. My buddy was trying to take his son, nephew, and brother, but tools like this are snatching up tickets for profit...
  • 5 0
F*ck the judges, who really cares who wins rampage? i never agree with their scoring anyway, its just a blast to watch all these dudes pushing it.
  • 2 0
Just dont buy off people like this. It would be better if people did not turn up that they sell remaining spectator spots 'on the gate'. Or report this ticket sale to someone, can they not shut that sort of thing down?
  • 1 0
@rmaccewan, I agree. Our local (Utah) classified ads are littered with opportunists trying to cash in on Rampage tickets. It's disgusting, but I don't know what Red Bull can do to stop it.
  • 2 0
www.pinkbike.com/u/quentek25 This dude made a post telling me to message him because he knows lots of local people who have extra tickets but are selling them for 70-90 bucks each. Feel free to let this dude know how big of f*cking scumbags his friends are.

Been carrying an injury though I thought, ankle perhaps? It isn't unusual to get through the season by hook or by crook then get things fixed properly when the races finish
  • 6 0
I read an ITW done in Andorra, he said he had some nasty plans for the after-race-season. He said that he usually rests, but that this year it would be different. Meaning that he probably will be there ! (I hope that I guess it right I know this guy, he can go really big !)
  • 15 4
Wonder how Gwin might get on at this event
  • 10 6
As much as I'm a huge fan of Gwin, this isn't an event for him. There's no style or flamboyance with Gwin, just outrageous speed. As an exercise in going from point A to B at unfathomable speed, he's your man. Doing it while putting on a show he is not.
  • 17 2
Gwin is pretty damn stylish when he wants to be dude. Have you seen any of the movie's he's in?
  • 10 1
Gwin's job isn't to be stylish. He's got mad style that he's carried over from moto. He obviously can't display that in the World Cup. I'd love to see his speed and style at Rampage!
  • 1 0
I would like to see No Chain Gwin in it too. Preferably without a chain.

Who is jaws?
  • 3 0
 Yeah Thirion...
  • 8 0
Gwin can just scrub every jump every drop and get to the bottom in 11 seconds
  • 1 0
Would like to see Gwin ride Rampage with no chain and his rear tyre hanging off. That could be interesting!

  • 19 0
I would pay top dollar to se you tackle the course on your shan
  • 61 1
Don't see Cam McCaul on the list - here's hoping he's in the announcer's booth. He killed it for the Crankworx events this year, the kid's a natural born color commentator!
  • 17 1
Yeah man. I was really hoping to see him on the list too. But it seems like he's really shutting it down when it comes to contests. He's transitioning to full on video segment and mic man. Which he's killer at. But I was hoping to see him in the event. He always drops amazing lines... and usually gets robbed.
  • 4 3
^ I think you are thinking of Tyler wrt getting robbed at Rampage
  • 9 0
My guess is Cam realized it is safer and.... Much more lucrative in the announcers booth. Miss seeing him compete but I guess I understand the motivation.
  • 8 1
it seemed like he passed the torch off 2 rampages ago when he was buzzing about throwing a no hander over the canyon gap & McGarrey threw the first backflip just after him. Cam is among my favorites & is legend & pioneer, but the look on his face was like - I'm gona need a new job soon cause i wasn't ready for that. bright side is: best announcer in the industry now!
  • 7 0
cant blame him for not competing, now he's a dad it wouldn't suprise me if competing at rampage looks less appealing given the prize money on offer.
  • 3 0
Didnt Cam just rupture his spleen or something? Insure wouldn't be competing after that.
  • 2 0
appendix like 6 weeks ago I think. I'm sure that's probably part of it. Probably hasn't been able to properly prepare. And he's done a couple big trips and big shoots this year too.... and helped set up a few events... and helped a few guys films some stuff... and help a few guys land some gnarly stuff.... etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back next year but I wouldn't be surprised if he never does another one. LOL! I would be surprised if he didn't do some more slope style and other type events...
  • 7 0
As a dad I agree. Changes your mental game a lot. McCaul is a legend.
  • 2 0
Interesting point about making more coin in the booth than on the bike. It's probably accurate.
  • 4 0
Anyone who has been a part of this sport for more than ten years knows that cam has been robbed in comps more than anyone else. His flawless style made everything look easier than others who were doing decidedly less- but receiving higher scores- god knows why.
Cams commentary brings legitimacy to that aspect of the event, whereas in the past it has been left to loudmouth blowhards who would antagonize the spectators with idiotic terms like "shut the front doooor!" To go along with their inability to describe the tricks and manoeuvres being performed because they were never involved in the sport themselves. So in that regard it's very unselfish of cam to provide colour commentary for us, and I hope he gets paid well for it.
  • 1 0
It's like Luke Van Valin in skiing. He stopped competition and does hilarious awesome announcing now.

flag robd420 (Sep 10, 2015 at 22:41) (Below Threshold)
Really? Come on man...he is a slope rider, this is a gnarly event. With the exception of 9 Knights when has the Visorless Helmet wearing guy been on a Dh bike? Let alone in Rampage type terrain? He won't do crap, Rampage is for real bikers, not trick ponies.
  • 4 0
Yeah he might be able to cashroll a DH bike, but that's not big mountain.. unless he just hucks down an insane line and somehow manages to ride it all, then I'll say he blows some minds
  • 2 0
robd420 and adamlaylock, Did you just start following Rampage this year? Rogatkin was in Rampage last year - he has ridden that terrain.

 www.redbull.com/ca/en/bike/stories/1331681852401/red-bull-rampage-2014-finals-results-report-and-video

And alas, he did not make top 20 last year, and the video you tagged shows him riding groomed and some pre built jumps; far from the original Big Mountain riding rampage is. He's a bmx rider at heart; you can tell by his "huck as much as possible" style. If he pulls a cashroll at the very bottom and gets a podium finish from it, I'd honestly stop watching rampage each year. He is just way too out of his element to even be a contender
  • 5 0
They were pretty much all riding groomed jumps... place looked like a bike park by the end, albeit a damn scary bike park
  • 34 1
Why not Carson Storch?! I love watching this kid. He is so smooth and does not get near enough respect.
  • 9 0
Agreed - would love to see him there. Maybe he's still hurt though?
  • 9 1

  • 6 0
His FB page has a pic of him from last years Rampage and says "Daydreaming about rampage. Shoulders feeling so much better everyday that goes by." I hope they add him to the list once he announces he is fully recovered.
  • 2 0
Agreed . He was the first name i looked for.
  • 2 0
Yeah... I don't think he's in one piece right now but he definitely would have been a contender.
  • 8 0
I Hope Soderstrom is invited once he is healed too
  • 2 0
theres a handful of riders on the waiting list, if storch isnt there now he may have lost a spot. I talked with Sylvestri who said he is an alternate in case a rider steps down.

he broke his collarbone at joyride. I think he said his brake cable got caught while bar spinning the wall just before the fourpack... anyways he was going to be out for 5 weeks and that was like a month ago. So we might see him!
  • 1 0
That's right. I forgot about that. Yeah his cable got bound up. Collarbone... don't want to rush back from that and 5 weeks is rushing back. They tend to snap again if you come back too quick. But between now and the event it'll definitely be totally healed.

  • 26 0
That's a lot of riders for such a small site! Every year seems like tensions get higher between riders "trespassing" on each others lines. This many riders makes it near impossible to prevent that from happening. Just my .02 though! Thoughts?
  • 5 2
the organizers just want to have the best riders, and most of them have to be invited via wildcard. Maybe if rampage gets out of the fmb they could have lees riders, and all the riders be good at big mountain
  • 7 0
I'd imagine not everyone is going to attend, either.
  • 9 0
Oh it would have been a great idea to invite gee and ratboy
  • 22 1
I don't think Gee and Ratboy... or their sponsors want them anywhere near rampage.
  • 12 0
Gee's last rampage didn't end very good. It's not worth risking your life for this thing.
  • 7 0
The one before was pretty good though
  • 8 0
I think Gee is pretty docorative athlete, from racing world cup, urban downhill, and rampage. Not much people/racer/rider can do that (taste the podium).
  • 2 0
1/3 will get injured just practicing, always thins the herd a bit before finals
  • 26 4

Hopefully the judging actually follows what they always say they're judging... style, speed, tricks, line tech... etc. Lately it seems like they've been swayed by the one big trick, but this is not a best trick contest.

Tyler should have podium already. I really hope he gets his due and walks out of there with a medal this year. The dude is a flat out big mountain beast. Carries killer speed. Builds really cool lines. Throws a variety of tricks. Goes for the biggest "natural" drops. Etc.

So yeah... I'll be pulling for my local dudes. Tyler and R-dog. I'm sure Ryan will be dropping some super fast super flowy stuff... and probably a massive massive whip.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing what Rogatkin brings to the table off the sender and the big cap. He's the dude that I think is the most likely to give Cam Zink a run for his money for the...woah that dudes got huge balls trick of the event.

And of course... looking forward to Zink. Dude always has something bonkers planned.

Strait is always so smooth and clean that he is always a threat to podium and/or win.

USA man... we have some good representative this year!

Tmac is.one to watch for for sure, boy can throw down gnarly shite with the best of them. RDog is one.of my favourite riders, I don't think he can go as big as dudes like Aggy, Zingy, and Andy though. I think Andy is gonna be a to back to back champ this year. He's thrown down on Fest, and still out this way riding moto and bikes. He is the guy to beat this year hands down.
  • 1 0
^+1 need to throw more than one big trick. Need to be able to ride.
  • 3 0
Tmac did hands down the largest natural drop in 2013 and I said it then.... will say it again... he should have been sitting in 3rd that year. No disrespect to the man who ended up there but I didn't think one trick should have been enough considering what the event is suppose to be about. I'm a big fan of Zinks.

I think it's more likely for me to throw a double frontflip on a DH rig over the rampage canyon gap then it is to score tickets to the show! It's downright impossible to get them unless you've sold your soul to eventbrite or are blowing the right people I guess! I reckon we'll just have to shred our own trails in the desert since flights are already booked and time off is acquired.  Aggy as a wildcard? Ha. If he and Andreu have clean runs, it'll be tough to knock them off the top spots.
  • 1 0
One hell of a rider list that! First time no Gee Atherton on it for a while. Wonder why?
  • 3 0
Ed he wasn't there last year either
  • 5 0
Last one was 2012 I think. I imagine if he were to enter it would be to win... but he can't compete with the big tricks coming out of the the groomed lines of today unfortunately. If Rampage was about speed, sketchy gaps and insane lines only as it once was then I think he'd be back

  • 4 3
 Messere????? WHY?
  • 8 0
Top FMB competitors can earn valuable points for their overall FMB standing. They may not be going for the Rampage win but those 7 guys might still shuffle their FMB overall standings. Must suck to be a dj/slopestyle rider and HAVE to go to Rampage to defend your hard work of the whole season.
  • 10 0
That's why is the freeride world tour. Best all round rider. Messere will be fine, and he'll find a sick line to shred.
  • 3 1

 Fest is Best

the thing that i like about rampage is that it isn't always the same god damn thing like fest is. I agree that fest is a amazing but rampage is much for technical
  • 2 3
Being a snowboarder since inception of the sport and seeing flakes like shawn white be labeled stars leaves a bad taste in my mouth. seeing scandle with Olympic figure skating where judges have picked the winner before the contest further shows where this bad taste is coming from. Judged sports, they are just wrong. Fest fixes this by making the event judged by the participants. The people who will have the best idea of ones performance on a course are the ones who actually ride it. Likewise if a rampage contestant says xxx got robbed they are speaking the truth.
  • 3 4
I got a hunch Redbiull isn't a huge fan of Aggy....
  • 2 5
Paul Bas? Really? Haven't seen the guy since NWD.
  • 5 0
He was in Rampage last year.
