 UCI Snow Downhill World champ!

came here to say that... is not a coincidence both announcements the same day...

UCI: Let's juice this one athlete videos to charge ski resorts world championships fees.
  • 1 0
 there's actually going to be a mini-series!
  • 10 1
I do not expect UCI to allow spikes.
  • 2 0
 Nice to watch but...
I still don't think a bike is the right way to use on a snow slope : Unless the snow is hard packed, it will be ruined shortly. So not a possible sport for the masses like ski and snowbord are.
  • 2 1
@xalt: yeah it's hilarious because skis are so goddam effective on snow that they make even normal mountainbiking look pretty tame. Let alone fake MTB on snow lmao, what a joke.
  • 4 0
In Austria we already have a snow-downhill series (6 races), which is called "Schneefräsn".

I wonder if the wall ride was an homage to Bode Miller's wall-ride in 2008: youtu.be/URG6lo0o0ik?t=28
  • 6 1
that was amazing, looked like he still won too?
  • 2 0
came here to make this exact comment
  • 7 0
@2wheelzgood: Didier Cuche won, Bode second.
  • 8 0
Bode was also probably hungober or stikl buzzed

 Insane Bode Miller!

thought the same, both wall rides are mental, but Bode did it during a race...what a beast.
  • 2 3
 Bode who?

@nastynate711: nice one (and thanks, didn't even know that word)

Is this the first instance of anyone looking cool on an MTB fitted with a rear mudguard?

(I expect it was to prevent a studded tyre related injury)
  • 6 0
 And it worked too!
  • 53 0
my question was did they KNOW they would need this, or did they learn the hard way?
  • 6 0
 Great mudhugger ad
  • 7 0
@plyawn: he had a small spike tire related injury a couple of years ago.
  • 10 0
 @plyawn:
That would be the last hard lesson a guy would ever learn.
  • 3 0
Nope, Wade Simmons may have been first looking cool rocking a rear mud guard.
  • 2 0
Was thinking the same thing when he went off the drop. Then I realised why at the landing.
  • 2 0
Yeah, I wonderd for a while about why he had a read mudguard and not a front. First thought was 'oh, maybe its a bit cold getting the snow up his back' Nope, no... its to stop his ass getting shredded by the hundreds of metal spikes in the tyre haha
  • 44 0
 Wow. That 2nd drop Huge!
  • 24 0
Fabio Wibmer: pretty good at bikes.
  • 20 1
The Streif the hardest & dangerous Ski Downhill track in the world, legendary track for riders with balls as large as watermelons.Mad respect for any one riding there.
  • 22 1
Bit nose heavy on that last one.
  • 8 0
Bikes just aren't aerodynamically stabile at those speeds... Johannes Fischbach had the same experience: youtu.be/_jsrhyfpzbQ?si=j0hxnioadlHuQ4J6
  • 3 0
@chris6-6-6: it is just the gyroscopic force from the wheels that are slowing down
  • 19 1
Get this man to Rampage! With the mudguard/ anti ball bag shredder!
  • 6 1
Despite being a little annoyed by the word "sick", i am certain that he would be an enrichment to rampage! Same as brage vestavik.
  • 12 0
"What's up with the rear fender?" [Huck to flat] "Oh.... Ohhhhh!"
  • 6 0
Mr.Speedrecord Max Stoeckl did. just that 6 years ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=md2VcDEAXWo . Fabio put some flavour to it with these massive jumps. This course is hard enough just getting down in one piece.
  • 9 1
Great riding Not sure about the Wombats
  • 1 0
Yeah great video but really didn't fit. Maybe we just hear it on the radio too much.
  • 3 0
@plyawn: I don't hear The Wombats at all on any radio stations. I'm a fan of them. I'm surprised they chose this song though lol
  • 2 0
Haha. Didn´t know the Band and thought Wombats was a Australia/Austria Joke
  • 6 0
I'd be wearing a MotoGP leather race suit instead of those paper clothes.....
  • 7 0
He looks fully armored up under the pajamas. At winter mountain temps and at those speeds all your outies would be innies otherwise.
  • 8 1
Fucking Hell , those drops were fucking massive !!
  • 6 1
Forget about everything else - at the end I am so bitter that I can't even do a nose wheelie - so this jerk does one BACKWARDS. On snow.
  • 5 0
That wall ride on the crash fence was so good. I guess that's how you make a living mountain biking these days...
  • 3 1
Taking that slope on Ski is gnrarly as f after its prept for the Race. Cudos for everyone conquering. especially on a bike… but is probably befor iceing that slope. Never the less - those balls. Never hoing to grow them

That gut built that drops. Give him some love aswell. Just fing sick…!!!!
  • 5 4
 Sick video!

Reminds of a time in the early 90's when my roommate & best friend poached the Dave Murray downhill course at Whistler 3:00 the day before a World Cup ski race. He fully suited up in his DH race gear and downhill boards and fully sent it. Was met at the bottom by old grey haired officials with clipboards and walkie talkies but just walked past them ignoring their yelling.
  • 2 2
I think the Prince of Spain tried that same stunt at Beaver Creek CO. It didn't work out too well for him as course workers were erecting the finish banner at the time and he got decapitated by the cable. Ooopsie!
  • 2 0
 @herzalot: JAYsus Frown youch
  • 3 0
Smart move on the rear fender. Otherwise those studs would rip a nice gash in his anus on a couple of those landings from stud buzz.
  • 2 1
Sick! He has so much grip on studded tires, snow bike races used to be on mud tires otherwise it would have been a blood bath. It is a common thing to runover people on those mass start snow races.
  • 4 0
It must suck to have to go through life with all that talent.
  • 4 0
 Hitting that gate... spicy!
  • 2 0
If the UCI built a course with jumps and obstacles, essentially a downhill course covered in snow, that might be worth watching.
  • 2 0
What could possibly go wrong with massive jumps on snow?

 Love the ass-guard xD
  • 3 0
Curious what his top speeds were. Ripping for sure!
  • 1 2
Wow, really impressive. The most dangerous part are the spikes on the tires... If he fell backwards on that wheel at 50km/hr+ his ass/crotch would be tone to bits. Hopefully he also had some undergarments that were kevlar or at least some thick material. Off.
  • 1 0
Loving that kit! I imagine he'd be bummed if he'd film the whole thing in his regular kit to then find out you can only see his shadow.
  • 2 0
Impressive jumps and all but I feel they didn´t really get the speed he was going at all.
  • 1 0
I had 26" spiked DH tires very much like those that I built years ago. The traction on a ski slope that's groomed hard is incredible.
  • 1 0
that rear mud guard was NOT to keep snow spray off him! anyone that has ever ridden DH knows why it was on there, given the ice spikes on the tires....Big Grin
  • 3 1
Make sure you watch with the volume way down, cause that’s some bad music
  • 1 0
Hell of a cool video! Love the style of riding, the bike and the kit are sweet! even though the comment is hard to ignore haha
  • 1 0
This was genuinely really cool. I somehow forget about Fabio Wibmer a lot, but he's got to be one of the best riders in the world right now.
  • 2 0
Love the fact that he rode up in Darren Rhalves gondola.
"Legend"
  • 2 0
That's crazy, the streif ain't fucking about
  • 1 0
this slopes is a no joke and during the race is blue and hard as hell. some great jump over the ratrack. great
  • 2 1
I am more into racing than watching freeride type videos, but Fabio and Danny I can watch over and over.
  • 1 0
Seeing this kind of videos makes me think "I'd like to download his skills like in Matrix", to get the feel of those jumps.
  • 3 0
 Outtakes please!!
  • 1 0
I dunno @sarahmoore i still have to go with bike….but skis are soo much faster!

 Biggish air.
  • 1 0
rear fender or not I was really worried about his balls
  • 1 0
 dude is getting lofty, wow!
  • 1 0
the paintjob on the forks looks so sick!
  • 1 0
Looks like that rear fender is protecting from tire slay rather than spray
  • 1 0
Got that secret 4 digit spring rate Ohlins coil.
  • 2 0
 Balls
  • 1 1
Heavy landing on the first jump. Looks very fun - I can't ski or snowboard but would do this (sans jumps).
  • 1 1
All this breaking and entering, I don't know, It sends a bad message to the youth!
  • 1 0
His future kids are glad he thought about the mudguard
  • 1 0
 Why isn’t Fabio doing “Hardline”!?

  • 1 1
Fair play that was wild. Funny looking Liverpool mind you
  • 1 0

  • 2 1
 Drops
  • 1 1
 The Wombats!!! Great music choice
  • 1 0
 that was uttlery rubbish
  • 1 0
 He definitely McSent It
  • 2 4
Two things: 1) The Hahnenkamm needs no platform! 2) He'd be more aero if he'd wear the lycra.
  • 1 0
He needed to be less aero to match his bike or he would go cartwheeling over the drops vs just landing nose heavy.
  • 1 1
 Huge
