The preparations for the Qashqai Urban Challenge are getting more and more detailed. For the street stop in Madrid (Spain), Jeff Lenosky is joining the course design team of the Qashqai Urban Challenge. Jeff showed up in Spain early Saturday and by Sunday morning he was back on a flight to New Jersey with a head full of ideas for the Madrid course

After an amazing 2006 inaugural season with well in excess of 50+ riders showing up for training throughout summer & fall. We at Epic Riders were simply blown away by not only the numbers but the motivation, commitment, skill level & passion for our amazing sport. On March 2nd 2007 the Freeride crew and the Kona Clump team took a trip to the final frontier of unexplored MTB terrain, the Patagonia of Argentina. Fabien Barel , Robbie Bourdon, Paul Basagoitia, Grant Feilder, John Cowan and the Lecondeguy brothers Andreu and Lluis stepped down in Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes. The trip was epic with a climate and terrain that reminded us of BC hot spots like Whistler and Fernie, it was not hard to find the zones.

High Peaks Cyclery is hosting two Club Shred mountain bike clinics, featuring Fast Times Training at the Whiteface Downhill Park in July.

True dedication to riding is rearranging school so you have the ability to ride. A riding obsession is when you rearrange school to watch others ride. However, in defense of those who only observed the weekend’s events, it was very impressive riding to behold.

The event was, of course, the Wham Bam Thank You Jam in Portland Oregon this last week. The Wham Bam Thank You jam is going to be a series of slope style/park/dirt jumping events throughout the year. This last event in Portland was the second Wham Bam Thank You Jam with the first being held last October.

This weekend will see the nps4x circus hit Chicksands near Bedford, this is now seen as Mountain Bike Mecca for all things dirt.

Saturday will see the "New British Supercross Championship" kick off with 3 timed runs and trophies for top 3 riders in each age group. The top 64 fastest then go into a straight knock out as per World Cup 4X races.

Monster Energy’s Sam Hill defended his prestigious UCI Oceania Mountain Bike Championship gold medal at Australia’s Thredbo Ski Resort, this past weekend winning the event over rival Nathan Rennie.

NEMA International is pleased to announce the addition of downhill star athlete Mick Hannah to the 2007 NEMA family. Mick headlines the NEMA team this season and is projected to have an immediate impact. He has stood atop numerous podiums throughout his career, including winning the 2005 Australian National Downhill Championship title and scoring a UCI World Cup victory in Vigo, Spain in 2006.

“I'm really excited to be working with NEMA,” stated Hannah. “I think it's a great company with a lot of potential! I'm looking forward to help with the development of high quality gear that's comfortable to ride in and looks great.”

“Chuck, the suns not even up!!” That’s how the morning started on the first day of work at Kamloops Bike Camp. For the first time ever Kamloops Bike Camp will be opening its doors in March. That meant all the trails needed to be dialed before the 24th when we are getting our first group ride. Lucky for me not only did I need to get the trails buffed we also spotted a new line that would add to the fun of the Elementary School trail. You’ll just have to wait for pictures of that one, its looking sick I got all sorts of cool things lined up for that, just as fun and flowy as elementary school but with two big wall rides some car jumps, big berms and fun for the whole family. I started in the jump and skills park across the street from the world renowned Quaaout Lodge after a quick stop there for a third coffee of the day.

The first ever Super D on Van Isle was held in Nanaimo this past weekend. It was a great turn out, over 90 riders from all over the island, the mainland, Washington and even as far as Quebec.

The good guys of Arrowsmith bikes, who always put on a great race, decided to do things a little different than your regular styles. Starting five at a time got riders going right out of the gate to attempt to get the holeshot. Being a Super D meant there was lots of pedaling, especially with a surprise 2nd run.

NEMA International, the originator of the mountain bike riding short, has been reborn! Under new ownership, NEMA will bring back many of their popular all-mountain riding apparel styles, as well as introduce new lines of clothing – fusing function and fashion for the mountain bike community.

Toronto triathlete and adventure racer, Peter Oyler, returned from Florida, where he qualified to compete in the 5,069 km 2007 Race Across America (RAAM), which he is doing this June, in support of Kids Help Phone.

“This is a long-time dream of mine… it’s the ultimate cycling challenge. On Sunday night a crowd of a few hundred strong came out to see which riders took home the 2007 Alberta Freeride Awards. Winners in 13 categories got to take home garden gnomes as trophies along with bragging rights for the year.

A new study has shown that establishing Tweed Valley as one of the world’s leading mountain bike destinations to rival locations such as Les Gets in France and Whistler in Canada could help attract 100,000 visitors to the region a year.

The independent report, commissioned by Scottish Enterprise Borders, highlights that the re-introduction of a safe vehicle uplift facility at the Innerleithen downhill course is a key first step in helping to grow the number of people using the downhill tracks.

Panorama Mountain Village – The BIG Air Challenge happening on Sunday April 8th is the final and largest event of Panorama’s 2007 Park & Pipe event series. And, it will be the first staging of what will become a highly-anticipated annual event.

Renny and Bill from YESS Products (makers of some of the fastest BMXs around as well as the manufacturers of Cove Bikes) stopped by the office to show us their new chain tensioners for vertical and horizontal drop outs. They even have a model that will allow short travel fullies to be able to go single speed.

For the first time, the Vancouver Bike Swap featured at the Vancouver Outdoor Show in February, was an enormous success for the North Shore Mountain Bike Association. The NSMBA tripled the dollar value of product sold in the swap, doubling the revenue generated over previous years. Over 1800 items were registered into the swap; meaning a donation for each item entered with additional donations created with every visitor to the swap area. The NSMBA also earned revenue from a percentage of the sale of each item.

Hot on the heels of the finest race season in Kona history, the Kona Factory Mountain Bike Team returns with an expanded roster for 2007. 2006 was a year filled with five national champions, a world cup overall victory and numerous podium finishes. For 2007, the squad looks to build off of last year’s success and keep Kona’s trophy case filled to overflowing.

Only eight weeks until the start of the tour which will take the world’s best urban freeriders through five different European cities, competing for the title of the most ‘urbanproof’ rider. North America’s premier traveling mountain bike skills instruction program announces its 2007 camp dates and locations.

For the seventh consecutive season, the Dirt Series is taking to the road, venturing from its Whistler base to mountain bike destinations throughout Western Canada and the US.

The National 4X series has grown up over the past two years into the biggest in Europe, we have now attracted a new title sponsor for this year’s series. Freerange Sport Optics has been attracted to the sport by the exciting racing and the spectator friendly format. The series will now be known as the Freerange Sport Optics National 4X Series.

Sinister Bikes, an East Coast premier handmade bicycle manufacturer has moved operations and restructured management in order increase productivity and re-align its mission as a progressive hardcore bicycle company. Sinister Bikes has moved its corporate headquarters to Gloucester, Massachusetts under the new ownership of Bruce Linehan and Skye Nacel. The bikes will be created at a new production facility operated Frank Wadelton a.k.a. Frank the Welder (“FTW”) who will continue to handle design and production while welding his legendary bicycles that are renowned throughout the world. The 2007 Toronto Bike Show X-Track Dirt Comps went down in el grande style last weekend. Thursday nights' huge snow storm turned rain threw a curve in travel plans for some, but with $8000.00 cash divided out to the finalists and the best course yet, the riders went off large. The track featured an S shaped set of first turns which led to some good lines for racers and stunt riders alike, with a variety of step, double and tabletop jumps.

North Shore-style mountain biking ace Ryan Leech noticed something about how children regard elite athletes about a year ago, and he responded by changing his path. While some highly gifted pros duck the responsibility of being role models, he pursued it.

The Island Cup series kickes off this weekend with a Super D race at Doumont in Nanaimo. A super D race is best described as a downhill, cross country race. Super D races normally lack the technical danger packed elements of a downhill race and, in most cases, have some significant pedaling. Racers will be timed individually but here's where the Nanaimo Super D makes it interesting....racers will start five at a time.

Devinci receives the official winner at the factory…

After holding the Canada wide "I did it my way!" contest last summer, Cycles Devinci is greeting the winner at the factory from March 11th to March 17th 2007. David Cusack from Victoria, BC will be participating in the building process of his own bike, from tube machining to components assembly.

The snow is melting and KBC is off to its earliest opening ever. Devon and Chuck took a trip out to the lake March 10th to see how things are looking. Well, lucky we brought the bikes along just in case. The ‘Orchard’ was in ready to ride form. We took a couple of passes through and it felt good!!! We even made our way up the mountain and scoped out a new addition to the trail network. We found a section that is going to be a lot of fun. The ground is ready to build so we’ve got it dialed. We already have our first group rolling through on March 24th so it’s time to kiss winter… good bye sucker!

Rocky Mountain Bicycles is in for a rockin’ year in Freeride and Gravity. Re-signing with Rocky Mountain is Thomas Vanderham, aka “The Kid,” the undisputed king of huge, stylish airs and big amplitude moto whips. Thomas joins legendary Freeride star Wade Simmons, referred to as “The Godfather,” and Germany’s Rob Jauch, a European media favorite, to form the 2007 pro team.

Spring is here again and Island riders are getting geared up for another amazing season of racing on Vancouver Island. This year's series takes us from the southern tip of the Island where Victoria hosts its xc race at the Hartland Dump to Port Alice where racer's earn double points. A little while back I was sitting in the house, looking at the snow fall and rain constantly coming down. Just wondering to myself “when am I going to ride again?". As soon as I said "in the summer...” I was offered a deal I couldn’t turn down. To ride a bike that’s not mine, in the snow, rain, dirt, mud, and rocks? How could I turn down such a deal? Exactly, I couldn’t. So, a few weeks passed, and a root beer brown, medium, 2007 Kona Stinky Deluxe was climbing off the truck and into my arms. Now, I don’t want to bring some "OC" into my write up, but it was like love at first sight. Most probably because it was a brand new bike, and I’d get its first ride. I was extremely excited. We went for walks on the beach, and sat out in the rain when we were bored, had a nice candle light dinner, and then retired to watch movies. It was love at first sight, dressed to kill she was. So, like a night with a very attractive woman, I'm going to break it down on how it all went. From top to bottom, left to right, this is how it went, except mine wasn’t a one night stand, it was much, much longer!

This is the embellished version of our last road trip; you just wouldn't believe what really happened. It started out as an ordinary bike show in Toronto with the traditional 5 hour drive from the Dobermann factory in Gatineau. Little that we knew that the next 3 days would be the worst days of our young lives. Get ready, it's a lonnng story!

Animal are proud to roll into their 20th Anniversary year with the formation of the new Animal Commencal international mountain bike team and enter a new chapter with long-term team riders Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton.

This past weekend was the third North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS). Last year I missed the show because I was down in Bootleg Canyon ripping some gnar, but this year I made sure my calendar was clear so I could attend this event. The show was held at the San Jose convention center, which is conveniently located within walking distance from my work.

On Sunday March 18th Calgary Cycle will be handing out the 5th annual Alberta Freeride Awards at COP and you can win rad prizes just for showing up!

Devinci, the event's title sponsor will be giving away a COMPLETE 2006 8FLAT8 and a 2007 Hucker frame. In addition to those wicked prizes there will also be a 2006 Santa Cruz Heckler frame, Oakley goggles and Dakine gloves and packs up for grabs! Calgary Cycle has upped the ante and has 120 DVD's to toss to the crowd this year! The good folks from Cycles Lambert will also be hanging out giving tons of free stuff! After the Snow Event-Kona White Style, the Bikepark Leogang is now busy with the last preparations for 2007. From May 17th the cable car operators of the new Valley Station will take bikes instead of skis or Snowboards up the mountain. If you look closely at the calendar for the upcoming summer, you better get prepared to see many more bikes!

For the 2007 season FUNN will be directly supporting a select group of riders from across the globe. Looking to challenge some of the bigger component companies out there we will include guys who will cover World Cup and Norba DH and 4x racing, Freeride and Dirtjumping events world wide.
