We use Slack as our workplace communication tool at Pinkbike and we have a #randoms channel which we use to share an assortment of videos and stories from all corners of the cycling world and beyond... We thought a couple of the moments from the past week were too good not to share with a wider audience, so here are some of the highlights.

Are Jet Packs the Future of Mountain Rescue?
| We proved you can scale a Lake District Mountain (3100ft Helveylln) in 3mins 30 seconds, despite very poor visibility that would have grounded a HEMS Helicopter. The Mountain Rescue foot response is over 70 minutes typically. The route was 1.2 miles and 2200ft of height gain. This is the latest in a series of Paramedic Response Exercises to prove capability in parallel with training up real Paramedics to provide first response Critical Care in hard to reach geographies. Cardiac, breathing or blood loss cases are time critical and require rapid stabilisation to buy time for evacuation. This system, akin to the rapid response of a Paramedic on a motorbike in an urban environment, will be the difference between life and death for many critical cases. |

The business climate is very tough unless you're a multi billion dollar tech/defense company, which is why I left. Its an extremely safe and effective anti-parasitic drug, and has clinically proven anti-viral properties. Ivermectins effectiveness for COVID19 treatment or prevention is not yet understood.

It's not a guarantee that ivermectin will kill covid, but saying "people who take ivermectin are taking horse medicine" shows how little you understand the chemical composition of most pharmaceutical or even OTC drugs. maybe once CNN comes out and backtracks on their statements you'll change your mind. Maybe.

It is simply a speculative article, having referred only to a Nat-Academy of Science article (which is also not a study but a summary of the proceedings of a meeting) about using Ivermecton on Zika, and other mosquito-borne illnes - and it was shown in 2017 & 2018 that it does not help with these diseases.
But people don't read NEJM - the Wiki piece summarizes it well (as it does many things). The 'horses' use is the majority so it is correct but here - so sure, I'll take a bath on that generalization. My point: I'm not saying this because I saw it on the news but because I review & edit studies & peer reviews before they are published so yeah: its kinda in the wheelhouse.

You'd still need the casualty locating, that thing doesn't have the endurance to search nor the equipment of SAR aircraft.
If the casualty is located you'd need a good visual range else you could end up flying into a hillside.
What happens in the event of a failure of kit?
How much payload can the pack wearer carry to treat a casualty?
It's a solution for a problem that already has options; MRT/SAR/air ambulance have this area covered.

As if that exists in a vacuum. Rather than just looking at Calis numbers for COL, it might be helpful to look at other states. Not just income but property, sales, county and city taxes… that will provide a more accurate picture.
