Moody scenes before the sun graced us with it s presence today. What will the weather do this weekend
What will this weekend bring?

After spending weeks on weeks waiting for the World Cup season to gather momentum, it's finally here and hitting hard, with the Leogang race coming up seemingly as soon as the track cooled down from Fort William. Once again, the riders are scoping their lines for the brutal weekend ahead, with mechanics working overtime to get everything dialed before another big showdown this Sunday. Here's what photographers Nathan Hughes, Andy Vathis, and Ross Bell discovered on their laps through the pits.

I know they're pros and it's what they do, but the level of detail, precision and setup is absolutely astounding really. Every single component, every item, every detail all considered, fettled, changed and sorted.... impressive.

One good thing about newer Sram calipers, is that with the bleeding edge port its actually fairly low risk.

Is Gwinnnnnn checking the chain to make sure it does not break, or is he setting the chain up to break in the hope that he could actually win (Or come close to the podium) again?
  • 2 0
To be fair wouldn't you just pay the fine and have a barely there board? Seems like a small cost to high aero gains ratio

"Cutting down the Assegai should help keep the mud from collecting."

Very interesting, I found the Assegai to clog a bit too easily myself.
  • 1 0
 Three questions.

1) why the weight under the frame guard? Isn’t the goal as light as possible?

2) what happens to Greenlands mechanic?

3) why cover brake calipers?
  • 1 0
I can answer some. The cover on the callipers is to stop mud going in the top and getting on the pads and creating issues and the weight is most likely something to do with balance and stability

XT brakes from Neko - another day of questioning what kit I actually need on my bike for me then
  • 2 1
Let’s be honest, none of us normal humans really need anything better than Deore. I spent a few months with Deore four pot brakes earlier this year, with 220mm rotors they’re really 95% as good as my normal brakes (dominion, MTX pads, 220 rotors). I do run a lot of XT stuff, but whenever I end up with Deore bits, I am just blown away with how good it is.
  • 1 0
@Afterschoolsports: fully agree on the Deores. I've got a set on my hardtail and they impress me every time I'm out (the consistent bite point is a definite help). It's worth pointing out though that I use my brakes a LOT more than Neko, so he probably doesn't need as high a spec as me ;-)
  • 2 0
@mashrv1: try to get some MTX pads in them next. I moved them to my “guest bike” after I ran them to see what they’re like. If they were on one of my personal bikes, I would run the MTX. They’re such a massive upgrade for any brake. I found with a proper bleed, none of the Shimano brakes in my family have wandering bite point.
  • 1 0
@Afterschoolsports: Okay, so 4 piston Deore is plenty good. How about 2 piston? Is it up to a scratch?

These Cube bikes are totally looking like they jumped from 2005 and on the way their main pivot just got higher. If you put them into such a nice collection of new stuff of the circuit, it really stands out how ugly they are. At least for my eyes.
