man, some of the most brutal hits yet. and maybe some of the worst techniques on doing drops ive ever seen. several of these people clearly have been told "just put your weight back when you hit the drop and youll be fine" when there is a bit more to it than that.
  • 15 0
Exactly - that guy at that beautiful rock drop @ 1:12 clearly wasn't ready for such a drop! Small increments is key to success and limited injury!
  • 26 4
Fun fact: acceleration due to gravity doesn't care where your weight is
  • 2 0
@neimbc: yep. exactly. that one, and the one at 0:24. both low speed drops, and both made the exact same terrible mistake
  • 4 2
 @harriieee: Ever heard of balance?
  • 6 0
Ugh - some of these hits are going to result in injuries for sure

@IntoTheEverflow: Leaning back while going off a drop doesn't affect how fast your wheel falls. Your wheel will accelerate towards the ground at 9.8ms-2 the moment it leaves the lip, unless you delay the beginning of the wheel's downward acceleration by pulling up i>before/i> you leave the lip, giving the wheel upward velocity. The function of leaning back is to attempt to assure that, if you land nose-heavy, your centre of gravity is still between the wheels and you don't go over the bars.

@harriieee: "Look at me i took intro physics"
  • 11 0
@harriieee: Ever heard of a manual?
  • 4 0
@neimbc: He goes waaay too slow for his abilities. Going that slow you gotta have a solid manual.
  • 3 0
@neimbc: He was going waaaaay to slow for that lean back technique. Maybe a preload hop would have cleared that lip.
  • 8 1
I think rear braking going over stuff like this exaggerates the front wheel drop. No rear brake once the front goes over the edge.
  • 9 0
 Serious bloodbath this week.
  • 4 0
 Land darts
  • 3 0
@EstebanPablo: for a newb like me, this comment is outstanding. Ty
  • 2 0
@EstebanPablo: dude holy shit mind blown...I’ve never considered that some of these guys could be dabbing rear brake after their front has cleared the lip as some sort of twisted noob version of a brake check....

I never could understand how some of these go SO poorly...but that would explain it perfectly.

I hope at least one person reads what you wrote.
  • 1 0
@nvranka: Another thing that is done by many guys when they drop and crash - is as soon as they go over the lip, they throw the front end (the bars) in front of them, - this literally dumps the bike over - instead of remaining neutral and shifting your weight back slightly. Stay safe.

These were pretty awful fails. The gap between skill level and send level this week was probably the highest it's ever been.
  • 65 0
Smooth near-recovery on that laydown/scrub towards the end. If you roll away is it still a fail?
  • 3 1
2:27 not a fail but DH crash immediately after.. ouch
  • 7 0
 the poor man's matt jones
  • 6 0
Came here to say that. Dude totally styled that out!
  • 4 0
Maybe he skis a lot of powder and hip-checked on autopilot.
  • 3 0
@jb2mntbike: Yeah man me too! I don't think that was a fail, looked more like a win to me!
  • 1 0
@underhawk: I was thinking Kriss Kyle.
  • 55 3
 I didn't see Gwin's e13's anywhere.
  • 8 0
It didn't happen on a Friday Razz
  • 6 0
But I did see the video on Vitals instagram
  • 7 0
@Jacquers: why I never ride on Fridays
  • 1 0
 @deadtime: ha. Well played.
  • 41 0
 Hey PB!

Any chance of numbering these? We could say things like #X should use training wheels or whatever. Making fun of someone should be a more precise exercise.
  • 8 0
 Smashing idea.
  • 10 0
And a pole every week,so we can elect the "best" fail... And perhaps even create a Fail of the Year?
  • 4 0
@nozes: I used to love when they had fail of the month but it seems like PB stopped doing it a while ago.
  • 23 0
I'm pretty impressed with homie's little leg slide he did down that mound, landed on the tires too. Get that man a beer!
  • 7 0
I bet MacAskill would happily buy him one...very stylish, very Wee Day Out
  • 2 0
That clip is thuglife material... I could hear D O Double G playing!
  • 16 0
Woahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the guy doing the surprise nose manual through the rock garden at 1:00 is very lucky... could have ended much worse!
  • 16 1
Phrase of the Week; Oh $hit
  • 7 1
One guy said, how was that? Haha
  • 4 0
 PB’s newest sticker pack.
  • 11 0
I like to think it's the same guy saying "oh shit" in every video
  • 2 0
@mtbgreg80302: how does he keep getting invited along to film people? Seems like word would get out not to bring him. He must provide beers and a ride to the hospital every time or something...
  • 2 0
@tbmaddux: He's like a photo gremlin taking video of people unsuspectingly. In fact, people wipe out because their peripheral vision picks up photo gremlin and they're like "oh sh......"
  • 14 0
I can handle a lot of fails, but the textbook broken collar bone slams are fricking hard to watch. Oof
  • 6 0
2:25-2:30 I don't know if this is just the skateboarder in me talking but if you roll it away it aint a fail unless you toe/heel drag of course Wink
  • 3 0
For the last 4 weeks I’ve thought each Fails edition was funnier than the last and laughed out louder more and more each week. This week no bursts of laughter, just cringing. I think everyone could benefit to improve bike skills with a lesson. I’m looking forward to taking my second one ever next month. My goal is to do one every year going forward.
  • 3 0
I could feel my shoulder separating again with all this weeks fails.

Im 99% sure the step down @ 0:17 is local to me, it is always fun too see trails you know. WWC did an absolutely hilarious $50 Craigslist MTB Challenge video on that trail recently.
  • 2 0
Same here, ghost pains all over my surgery scars after watching that.
  • 1 0
@frenchfriedfun: hahaha, at least I'm not the only one
  • 1 0
Did he pedal strike that rock?
  • 1 0
@jaredmcneill: he got hung up on the landing, I think. The A line goes straight there and the B line makes an “S”through the gap, so I think he cased the landing.
  • 1 0
It's definitely the trail gap on Suicide.
  • 5 3
Most of these people are all bill$ no skills.
Seriously most of these fails could be avoided.

I learned to drop off a curb. Then i dropped off two stairs... on and on to 30’ drops.

Learn to ride before you start trying to conquor trails or change trails to suit your lack of skill.
  • 5 0
I better stay at home over the weekend.
  • 3 0
@MindPatterns or just bring a camera
  • 3 0
I'd like to see a PB-affiliated MTB coach find one of the riders that cased or OTBed drop and teach them how to do it properly.
  • 5 1
2:15-2:30: not a fail in sight.
  • 4 0
 2:27 = not a fail, perfect execution.
  • 2 2
One of the biggest things I have noticed from Friday Fails and watching people bite dust in person is not realizing how key suspension set up is. The average riders preload and rebound is often set up so brutally poor that it is having a major influence on them taking a dirt nap.
  • 4 0
Not directly related to suspension, but look at the guy's bike on the 2:36 bail. Giant frame, seat sticking up his ass and trying to huck rocks haha
  • 11 0
it might appear that way, but most of the dead sailors you see are from people being rock solid stiff on the take off. No amount of rebound adjustment will save your ass, ask me how i know
  • 1 0
 @arrowheadrush: stay loose brah
  • 1 0
@arrowheadrush: figured that out a bit ago. Better to try an whip or trick it, makes you more loose than full rigid.
  • 4 0
2:27 is the cleanest transfer I have ever seen.
  • 4 0
Friday fails is the reason I buy NEW frames instead of used ones.
  • 1 0
Yeah these were some tough ones. My daughter and I watch every week. But geez some folks got hurt in this one. You know it. Who was it that went tumbling off the side of the Vallnord track down the mountain? Anybody know?
  • 1 0
 I think is Mille Johnset
  • 3 0
Hurricane crosswind at 1:05????. F$@k it. Send it anyway.
  • 3 0
Hanvent seen this much carnage in a while...
  • 3 0
I'm in so much sympathy pain...
  • 3 0
Nose manual at 1:00 absolutely styling it. For a bit.
  • 2 0
Yeah right before his bike ended up riding him
  • 3 0
 "oh Shit.....you OK?" x 12.
phrase of the week
  • 3 0
What the hell happened to the guy on the berm before the splash screen?
  • 2 0
Looks like he set up too wide and smacked a pedal on that tree. Ouch.
  • 1 0
I am torn between wanting to see the next five seconds of each crash and totally not wanting to see what happened...but I still want to see!!!
  • 1 0
Really hope guy at 2:31 had a super solid helmet and neck brace. That's a hard hit and compression for sure.
  • 1 0
Some of the finest failure I've seen in a while. Looked like at least one munched rim-hope everyone on film is okay.
  • 1 0
A Lot of Pain this week
And some broken collarbones!
My kids (7&4) love watching FFs
  • 1 0
Haha are my kids evil if the love these?
  • 2 0
Wow, these were bad. I usually laugh.
  • 2 0
That hip slide into the jump was not a fail - it was an epic win.
  • 2 0
AG didn't make the cut? Wink
  • 1 0
Took me a few seconds to work out what had happened at 0:00! I was thinking "WTF did he hit?"
  • 1 0
Collarbones taking the hit this week... ooof
  • 1 0
Dude at 1.51 front flip crash with an 8/10 landing!!
  • 1 0
 Cheers!
  • 1 0
Wild fail friday means wild weekend ahead...
  • 1 0
Dang. The vast majority of these fails actually made me cringe.
  • 1 0
The one at 2:11 looks like a local trail near me.
  • 1 0
 @nikoniko you’re famous dude
  • 1 0

  • 1 0

  • 1 0
helps reinforce what NOT to do
  • 2 0

  • 1 0
2:30 - that whistle sounded like the horrifying scream of someone dying
  • 1 0
Friday Fails make for a little bright spot at the end of my week.
  • 1 0
1:33 is cakewalk in squamish? Hit that drop a couple of times if so.
  • 1 0
 Whole lotta rag-dolling. Yikes.
  • 1 0
2:30 ...he took the B line
