Devinci's 2008 Wilson-It's a whole new ball game! Devinci's 2008 Wilson-It's a whole new ball game!
2008 marks a huge change in Devinci's long travel down hill bike line up. In the past few years they have had as many as 5 different models that covered their DH/FR line up, all with a similar frame design, only varying in geometry to meet rider’s needs. But for 2008, a brand new frame has arisen from a whole lot of data collection and input from team and test riders. Once everything was compiled and the drawing board versions were actually being ridden and abused, the 2008 Wilson is now ready for the public. Here is a look into what you can expect from the 2008 Devinci Wilson 3.

Norco’s 2008 Line Up Blends function and fashion Norco’s 2008 Line Up Blends function and fashion into one hell of a Complete line up of bikes.
To me Norco Bicycles have always been like Honda motorcycles in the sense that if you start out on a Norco as a child, you’re sold on the brand for life. Like all the little kids that get their first Honda Z50s back in the 80s and 90s and now have owned CR80s, 125s and are now rocking CRF250s. The same is said for those of us that got our first Mini Mountaineer as a kid, then maybe a Bigfoot to a Team Issue XC bike and now we are wanting to rip on a Team DH or a Faze 1 as adults. The line up of bikes at Norco allows you to grow as an individual and a rider and explore the style that is yours. For 2008 you’ll find 139 models of bikes, so that means there is something for everyone. Here’s a look at the company that wants to support you in what ever genre of cycling you persue.

Deal with the Devil-Brodie Damien Review Deal with the Devil-Brodie Damien Review
The Brodie Damien is a bike built to take abuse. Built with a sturdy 1.5 " head tube, and an all mountain feel, the Damien is a bike that was well designed to take an immense amount abuse, and still send you through hell at the same time. We met halfway though. As some of you know me as a friend, you will understand why I say the Damien took me through hell, not once, but twice, and she still lived to tell the story. With a pearl white frame, a white Marzocchi 66 RC, and everything else black, the Damien was appealing to the eye and the mind when we first met. It was a sunny Sunday, birds were chirping, dogs are barking, it’s beautiful. Suddenly, with a roar that would rock you back 5 years, T-Rex jumps into my eyes with this smoking bike saying "it’s yours to ride". So, after a few minutes of pondering I took on the challenge of taking this bike, who has already been through where I was about to go, to hell.

To say the least, I’ve pounded Little Johnny pretty hard! To handle the bigger trails I built Little Johnny up to be quite beefy- 2.5 Maxxis Minions, a heavy dirt jump seat, a 5th element coil shock, and a 7 inch Boxxer World Cup. It got to the point where Little Johnny weighed more than my friend’s V10! It was definitely time for a trip to the spa for him!

Bikes, babies and beer – a Sun Peaks Resort road Bikes, babies and beer – a Sun Peaks Resort road trip chronicle
While many young parents’ lives skid to a halt when they have children, selling their downhill bikes and abandoning other “risky” behaviour, my partner, Nicola, and I have made a point of balancing our play with that of our children, unwilling to slip into the malaise of “maturity.” We continue to ride that fine line, both on the trails and in the rearing of our little whipper snappers.

But to maintain this optimum balance, we’re continually trying to ensure our kids are having as much fun as we are, and that means seeking out destinations that offer a combination of sweet riding and excitement for the kids. With many four-season resorts in British Columbia developing their slopes into world-class downhill mountain bike parks, this balance is becoming easier than ever, and Sun Peaks Resort exemplifies such a destination – with a whole lotta somethin’ for everyone.

Bearclaw Puts Finishing Touches On Slopestyle Cour Bearclaw Puts Finishing Touches On Slopestyle Course
At this moment, it could easily be argued that Darren Berrecloth is the busiest man in the bike industry. On top of maintaining his position in the upper ranks of freeride mountain biking, touring the hectic freeride circuit, and finding the leftover time to nurse the previous weeks war wounds from riding, Berrecloth added one more behemoth-sized item to the list. The Bearclaw Invitational.

2nd Annual Loeka Clothing Photo Contest! 2nd Annual Loeka Clothing Photo Contest!
Last year Loeka Clothing (www.Loeka.com) based in Vancouver British Columbia decided to launch a women’s only photo contest. The idea was to submit 3-5 riding pictures. The photos could be downhill or cross-country riding pictures or even lifestyle pictures as long as the pictures had something to do with biking. Based on the interest and number of photos from the contest last year, the crew from Loeka has decided to launch the 2nd Annual Loeka Clothing Photo Contest.

Crankworx Super Finals 2007 Crankworx Super Finals 2007
This year saw a bit of a changing of the guard if you will. Big names like Strait, Berreclothe, and Mccaul were not at the top of the podium like years past. Instead a new face in Ben Boyko stood atop the results sheet. Ben is one of the hardest working and most dedicated people in the entire scene, and now he is finally getting the recognition he deserves, and this win is going to bring him to a new level. Boyko was the only rider to 360 the bottom drop, both runs, stomped clean.

Alpine riding in The Portes du Soleil-Why this Reg Alpine riding in The Portes du Soleil-Why this Region is killing it!
It’s the end of a long day. We’re sat on the bikes high up in Avoriaz, looking down an arrow straight glacial valley. In the far distance, 800 vertical metres below us and almost perfectly framed by the steep cliffs of the valley is the village of Morzine. Bathed in a warm orange glow, it is receiving all of the suns attention now and we are starting to feel the chills that the evening shadows are bringing. It’s all downhill from here, and although we’ve been on a huge loop today, most of the strain has been taken by the chairlifts and I’ve lost count of the different downhill tracks we’ve ridden. It’s a strange fatigue…

The White Hot and DT Swiss parties went OFF! The White Hot and DT Swiss parties went OFF!
Crankworx is as known for its night life as it is known for its good times during the day. Once all the riders, media and spectators are done soaking up the sun, its time to plan the evenings events. Thankfully most evenings during Crankworx seemed to be planned for us. Here's a look at the White Hot Party and the DT Swiss/WCFG gatherings from last week.

Seven Reasons to Pedal Your Bike – Seven Summits Seven Reasons to Pedal Your Bike – Seven Summits Trail, Rossland, BC
While I have always tried to maintain a healthy balance between shuttling my downhill rig and pedaling my way to the top, I usually reach for the keys when presented with an option of day-long ripping. However, since we moved to Rossland, BC, things have changed considerably.

In addition to the seemingly endless single track from our front door, there is one epic gem of a cross-country ride that should be a must for any rider, and that’s Rossland’s Seven Summits Trail – hallmarked as one of IMBA’s Epic Rides in North America.

Waddell Picks Up The Pace in Western Oz. Waddell Picks Up The Pace in Western Oz.
The battle was on and intense, fighting it out for first and second place in the elite category at the third round of the West Australian State Series in Boddington (south of Perth). There was a good solid turnout of twenty-something top riders, as well as loads more in their own divisions. The Sun was shining, the weather was great, and the power was going straight onto the pedals around the awesome 14km course filled with steep DH sections, windy technical singletrack, and a fast fire road back up to the finish line.
