Inspired by Mike Kazimer's
Spinning Circles blog last week about Seasons Change, I started thinking about the forthcoming winter. The nights draw in and a huge chunk of the Northern Hemisphere gets cold and wet, and tends to stay like that for much longer than I would like. Late evenings at the dirt jumps are out, as well as procrastinating all day in the knowledge that you can still pound the pedals for a few hours after dinner before the night falls.
There seem to be a few different camps when it comes to winter ways:
Some people revel in the darkness as they don the winter warmers and lights, just getting on with the grind as normal after work and at the weekends, maybe even switching to a fat bike in colder climates.
Others take the time to get off the bike and indulge in some different activities like indoor climbing, hitting the gym, yoga or a blast on the moto's at the weekend to change things up. Also popular with the two-wheeled crowd is changing the contact points to sharp edge instead of blunt rubber and heading out into the snow on ski's or snowboards.
Some eccentrics do weird things like actually spending time with loved ones, going to the cinema, repainting the lounge and hitting Ikea when the crowds die down for the fabled 8-10pm empty aisle sessions.
But as we plunge into winter, half of the globe is heading into summer. Maybe you're thinking about migrating, or already live there?
What will you do this winter?

Will be playing squash and a bit of running too. But getting a new bike to make winter better.
On the Canada note, snow here is a luxury and is so much fun (until you have two foot of it) which is where a lift pass and fat bike wokld be cool as!!! :-)
Ride on peeps, wherever, however you need to, just keep pedalling!!!
:-D
This past summer we've barely had any wet rides, its been dry, and even dusty at times. But its already getting wet and dark now so the lights are charged, the mud guard is on and the jacket is packed. Its demo more hassle, but can still be awesome fun. Night rides are great too.
If I was riding all year long, it might not be the same though. but yeah my stoke level is also through the roof when I get to ride again XD
I was born 20 km away from the beach, spend the summer at the beach, see cars and vans all year round loaded with surf boards from all over europe and still I don't care much about it. But I bet that if I was born in Austria or Switzerland I would dream all day about the sea and surf. You always end up wanting what you don't have. : -)
I spend my time dreaming about that week in the Alps.
Where are you living, maybe we can meet next year at Morzine?
I will remember what you said :-D !!
It's rideable all year aroun and 1USD = 4 REAIS (Brazilian currency).
Tons of enduro riding

Studded tires and long as they grip!
Till it hit -20 C.
Out in the snow till it hits more than 5 foot.
This is the way of Northern Central Canada. from October till May/June.
IMO, it is the closest sport to riding a mtb trailbike. It's a super cardio workout, you can easily get to road bike speeds in the descent (60-70km/h), and it can get really sketchy in the corners when you go fast.
Lots of fun. Can't wait for the season to start!
There are lots of options to play outside in the winter. I tried cycling on a trainer for a while and I sold that thing last year.
I did ski to MSA and Massif a lot for 10-15 years...actually skiing is probably the sport for which I have the most talent and I truly love it., but a few ski tripsto Utah and the Alps, where I did back country expeditions was a real eye opener. That was big mountain skiing with snow conditions like you can pretty much never get here, especially when you have a day job. Having experienced real powder and big mountain skiing, I cannot justify paying 70-100$ per day to ski in crap conditions anymore. I will get back to it with my kid in the next years and I'll have a blast, but for now I prefer XC Skate, for which you actually WANT to have groomed conditions. Also, MSA is arguably the nicest XC-skiing resort in Canada, so why not take advantage of it?
Mt. Hood has not been receiving much snow the last few years which has made snowboarding on Hood lame. Lots of shallow rocks and ice.
I'll probably just reserve my free time to video games while the weather is shit!
to ski in the Rockies (rarely colder than -20C ambient there)
