We've all been there: It's the rock roll you've done a thousand times before, that one off-camber root section, or maybe it's your first time hitting a brand new drop - you crash. Accidentally crashes are part of our sports. EVOC certainly don’t want you to provoke crashes for this competition but they would like to keep you safe on your next adventure by dishing out prizing for the best fail of each month. Here are our picks for November.

#1 wasn't really a fail... he was the only one that made it out alive
  • 24 0
testing the Enve rims to the limit there like,
  • 19 1
He showed what happens when you half-ass jumps
  • 41 0
@Husker2112: yeah but last months winner showed what happens when you over cook jumps. Got to be some sort of happy medium...
  • 2 1
 #2
  • 2 0
@Harlsta: Yeah but you don't want to smash into the knuckle, #1 could've ended much worse
  • 7 1
at least it showed that the devinci frame could take big impacts
  • 7 2
#1 is a shining example of how far suspension technology has come. 5 years ago that did not end well.
  • 1 0
Is that sound the bottom bracket scraping the ground or the tire kissing his ass?!
  • 12 1
#1 absolutely not a fail. That's what you're supposed to do, right? I've been working on that trick for years.
  • 7 1
#1 isn't a fail. That is an accurate depiction of what 90% of the people who ride look like.
  • 3 0
@rrolly: he probably wanted to front flip out like macaskill
  • 63 1
#6 sounds like his internal organs now resemble mashed potato

#3 mate... srsly... good effort. To keep crashing over and over and still roll in with equal amounts of beans each time. Mad props.
  • 7 0
#3 shows why i can't imagine learning to backflip a bike without breaking my neck lol.
  • 1 0
 @SickEdit: #3 on loop ftw!
  • 3 0
@SickEdit: That's why you learn in a foam pit/resi ramp
  • 2 0
@Jakeus: not everyone has that available, as im learning on a dirt to dirt jump with a soft landing
  • 2 0
 surprisingly #6 is completely okay!
  • 1 0
Yeah true, even with a foam pit it took me a good 5 hours to learn them on the resi, may be a while until I try them on dirt, as they're still a little sketchy. I'd never learn without one, I have mad respect for people who have learnt them on an actual jump haha
  • 46 5
#1- is a win in my book...if you "rode" away from that junk you're boss

#6's Funeral will be held next week.
  • 4 1
Did #6 get shot by a gun? Or what was that noice?
  • 6 1
@stumpe90: That was his knee hitting the stump Eek
  • 6 0
@stumpe90: His face slamming in to the fallen log
  • 10 1
Riding out of #1 isnt super impressive to me, sure it was a hard hit but he wasnt nosed down or anything, he was in complete control the whole time, not sure why they even included it.
  • 1 0
@stumpe90: It was his bone breaking of wherever he hit that stump
  • 1 0
@Gvus2001: I agree with the first part of your statement, but if you are in "complete control" of the bike the whole time things like that don't happen. Except when you are in control and don't control it right.
  • 1 0
@WAtrailmaker: Things like that happen while you are in control, he just didnt have the speed. I did the exact same thing my first time through the new crabapple hits this year so I know the feeling.
  • 1 0
You probably won't believe me, but #6 came walking to me completely fine after that... wasn't until I saw the footage that I saw how badly he ate shit!
  • 1 0
 @j-t-g: tree stump actually!
  • 41 0
I can safely say #1 has his rebound set perfectly
  • 21 0
#3 because of pure heart. One of those crashes and I'd be all nopedy nope-nope-nope.
  • 4 0
Gotta give it to #3 for the effort!
  • 20 0
Does anyone else miss the old PB player's ability to pause the video and advance the video one-frame-at-a-time using the left & right arrow keys? =(
  • 3 0
id be happy if it actually loaded properly. half the time it loads 1/4 of the way super fast and then stops.
  • 14 0
Where do people find such bad quality recording equipment these days?

Also I still don't really understand how number 2 went so wrong.
  • 7 0
Looks to me like he grabbed rear brake or maybe even stopped his rear tire with his butt. Either way, conservation of angular momentum means nose going down down down.
  • 9 2
yeah that was strange, his body position and movement looked right.. until he dropped anchor into terra firma
  • 2 2
@Jokesterwild: I'm thinking his rear tire got bucked on the lip somehow?
  • 4 0
I think he mostly just had no business racing. It appeared he was too slow or slowed down before the drop or grabbed his rear brake. Don't touch the brakes when you're about to go off a drop.
  • 2 1
I think he was hanging off the back coming into the jump so compressed the shock too much. His rebound must be set to lightning fast as well. You can see the rear wheel shoot up as soon as he leaves the lip.
  • 4 0
His butt hits the rear tyre. It happens quite a bit. Even before that his body position wasn't the greatest
  • 1 0
 mysterious negative distance
  • 1 0
@tbmaddux: But I don't think that it would explain such a serious nose diving... I often brake my rear wheel while jumping just for the fun of landing on the front wheel a little bit.. It does create a nose diving movement but I had never experienced anything close to what happened in the video... There had to be something else to explain the brutal nose diving. I'm thinking maybe the rear wheel stopped or slowed down while it was still touching the ground.
  • 2 0
@t1000: Think about what happens if the front wheel is in the air and rear wheel is on the ground, and you do something to stop the rear wheel. You can test it yourself by doing a manual and then grabbing the rear brake.

In slow-motion if you go frame by frame you can see him get lower and lower and more and more back, until he stops moving down and his hips actually go forwards. I think that's the moment his butt hits the wheel and gets pushed forward. It's also the moment the nose pitches down.

Either way, like others have said, braking on the takeoff isn't a good idea, whether you do it with brake pads or your butt.
  • 1 0
@tbmaddux: What I meant is that I don't think that braking in the air can make you nose dive that quick. The braking had to happen on the ground to generate that much rotation, but on the video it's very difficult to say that his butt touched the wheel while still being on the ground or in the air. That's why the crash seemed weird to me.
  • 2 0
@t1000: Yes, the wheel wouldn't have enough momentum in midair to make that happen. The mistake definitely happened while the rear wheel was touching, and it's the torque applied by the ground through the wheel that causes the motion in my example and in the video.

The more I look at it the more I'm convinced he stopped the rear wheel with his butt, and not his brakes, right as the rear wheel reaches the end of the ramp. You can see the black stickers on his white rims spinning very fast in the run-up. The stickers stop spinning around just as his butt gets to its lowest point and in the next frame his nose is diving.
  • 2 1
It's crystal clear if you watch it frame at a time, the guy's butt drags on the rear tire after the front has cleared the lip, initiating the over rotation, and simultaneously it scoots his butt & bodyweight forward exacerbating the situation. Nightie night sweetheart
  • 13 0
If #4 could have pulled off the drift to front tire tree tap to 360 skid that would have been the greatest trick ever! He was so close! The end result looked painful though... Too bad, better luck next time.
  • 2 0
I love at the end of that clip where his buddy gues him the french equivalent of "you dead?"
  • 13 3
 #1 bye bye enve wheels
#2 what ?? i still dont understand what happened
#3 props! thats real dedication
#4 Never go full enduro (goggles)
#5 ok
#6 you better change your helmet after that
#7 NOSE BONK !!!
#8 was it tasty ? looked yummy
october winner : hope you're alive or not paralyzed man .. be responsible and stop freeride
  • 8 0
October winner: He's got a broken arm and concussion, got lucky
  • 4 0
#2 is classic, little too far back and your butt slightly touches rear tire at exact point when front tire is already in the air -> massive nosedive.
  • 1 0
@swamper1: What happened there really? In my point of view it was the lack of proper form on the "load / unload" movement before he left the lip.
  • 1 0
 @Prestige: mm i see it know !
  • 7 0
#4 I though the age of trying to impale people was over...? WTF is that trunk doing there?
  • 6 0
#4, it's a fail to trick to fail. Love how everything gets so perfectly sideways.
  • 7 0
 #6 was brutal, really savage.
  • 2 0
 hope he's ok
  • 9 0
 @RedBurn: I'm ok thanksSmile
  • 4 0
@mitch32: thanks for posting this, very glad to hear it! I was genuinely concerned after I saw the clip!

The thud was the sound nightmares are made of.
  • 11 0
@Marc2211: haha ... I was concerned too after my short Nap...^^
  • 2 0
So on close examination it seems #2 caught his backside on the tire which caused his weight to pop forward initiating the epic endo. Personally I think this beats #1 by a mile.
  • 3 0
#2 " hala! Agay! Stang kabuang.. Gi buhian man ang bike!"

Pretty much same as last month's winner.

#3 - for the sheer number of entries - taken in a day.
  • 3 0
#3 is awesome. Much respect due. But it isn't really a fail.
#4,for putting his back through a dead tree is the winner for me
  • 5 0
 #4 just looks savage
  • 4 0
Number 3 should win, you flipping cant keep a good guy down
  • 2 0
#6 took a few watches to work out what actually happened, then I decided I never want to see that shit again. Such. A. Brutal. Fail
  • 1 1
#1, every 40-year old on a $10,000 bike at my old stomping grounds looks like this guy when they're trying to clear a 10-foot tabletop. #2 is why my girlfriend finds something else to do instead of going riding with me. #3 looks remarkably similar to my last backflip attempt. #4, hey guy, 360s work a lot better if you do them in the air. #5... I got nothing. #6, I can't even tell what happened. It sounds like he snapped either his bike or himself in half. #7 is what you get for attempting(?) to nose bonk an endork-o bike. #8 got the added bonus of his bike going in for the kill after eating shit. The October winner: Remember, enduro bikes and half-shell helmets are the crossfit of mountain biking.
  • 4 0
#3 Yeah! You can do backflips!
  • 5 2
#1- is a win in my book...if you "rode" away from that junk you're boss

#6's Funeral will be held next week.
  • 3 0
when 6 rolled by my nutsack imploded....more like a seedbed now. I am in a npostpartum like state.
  • 2 0
OMG at first I thought #3 certain winner just for sheer bloody-minded determination.

Then #4 for almost pulling off the 360 save

Then #6 what the hell even happened?
  • 2 0
#3 has some serious determination, not really a fail since he kept trying and kind of made it. #8 has my vote more because of how the bike landed on him like a Cactus Elbow!
  • 3 0
#3 should be Win of the Month for learning how to flip. More dedication than I've got to learn shit like that.
  • 3 0
That's a broken shoulder in Germany, for sure?!
  • 1 0
 nahh... I was lucky xD
  • 2 0
I thought number two looked pretty ugly.. and the guy who came to a dead stop in Getmany
  • 2 0
my thoughts and prayers are with #6. i enjoyed #'s 8,7 and 3. push those limits.
  • 2 0
#2, starts to get up, but concussion says no.
#3, the determination is amazing.
  • 1 0
Not going to lie, every month I reconsider whether or not mountain biking is a smart or even sane choice. Then I remember that it's really freaking fun.
  • 2 0
poor number six guy .... my vote to him .....did you guys like pause it right on his face it,s aaahhhh .......
  • 3 1
I thought 8 was harsh, I mean no one wants a chain ring to the neck. But that thud in 6 is a thing of terror
  • 3 0
 #6 .... that sound....nightmare fuel
  • 2 0
Either of the otb's or the German dh one, doing flips doesn't count as that's just bound to go wrong, and no 5 was fake
  • 3 0
That all too familiar over the bars feeling
  • 1 0
#4, because I've had exactly the same crash this past September, and it is nasty hitting your back and neck in such unexpected way, no time to regroup, no protection there.
  • 3 0
 absolutely #6
  • 2 0
october is savage ! did the guy make it out alive?
  • 22 0
 Still here haha.

  • 1 0
everyone here are winners.. it's fun to ride but if you fall and get up (or get fixed) and continue riding , kudoz to you
  • 1 0
GO GO GADGET....REBOUND!!!!! That's what the red knob on your suspension is for there folks! Hope y'all are ok!
  • 1 1
quite a disappointing month tbh, or i suppose it could be good because there weren't many serious crashes. Apart from #6, but even that was 480p
  • 1 0
Some savage ones in there! I think I like No. 4 best for the pure outta nowhere 180 spin!
  • 1 0

  • 1 0
Last pic is why not wear shoulder protection !

Fashion before safety :-)
  • 1 0
I much prefer the videos without repeated replays and slow-motion edits added in.
  • 1 0
#6... That sound. Ugh. Hope it was the bike, but I fear it was his shoulder.
  • 1 0
#7 The guy was rolling on his front wheel with plenty of time to contemplate the upcoming face plant.
