unReal is for those of us who escape. A film that celebrates breaking free from the confines of reality and venturing into a boundless world. This place isn’t remote or hard to find, and yet many never see it. Here, glacial walls transform into mountain bike trails, rain and snow aren’t the only elements to fall from the sky and thousand pound mammals become riding partners. Breathtaking visuals conjure feelings of awe and pure joy; feelings that only those of us who venture outside can truly understand. This film is dedicated to you — the dreamers, the rule-breakers, the ones who never grow up, the ones who know the secret — the ones who know the way into the unReal world.

Riders: Brandon Semenuk, Brett Rheeder, Cam McCaul, Graham Agassiz, Steve Smith, Tom van Steenbergen and Thomas Vanderham, with Brook Macdonald, Finn Iles, Ian Morrison, James Doerfling, Matty Miles and friends.

Sony presents unReal with Shimano & Trek, a new film produced by Teton Gravity Research & Anthill Films starring Brandon Semenuk, Brett Rheeder, Cam McCaul, Graham Agassiz, Steve Smith, Tom van Steenbergen & Thomas Vanderham, with Brook Macdonald, Finn Iles, Ian Morrison, James Doerfling & Matty Miles. Written, directed and edited by Anthill Films. Art direction and additional writing by Good Fortune Collective. Additional support from Bike Magazine, Evoc, Knolly, Pinkbike, Rocky Mountain, Western Digital & Whistler Mountain Bike Park.

Five AM, can't sleep. My wife is dying of cancer. Our teenage daughter needs a lot of support. I lost my job because you cannot be a caregiver and give 100% to your company. And then this movie of beauty and hope. Now I know that one day I'll be riding again I won't know fear or sorrow. Thanks for this gem.

I'm in a similar situation, my father is dying of heart disease and I lost my job due to the related travels. Your comment made me realize that there are others like me that put family first and worry about the big picture later. Like EDBP says, enjoy this time with your loved ones, the bike will always be there. Wise words

I wish you the very best and hope that things are as good as they can be for you.

@vynil56, 4 months ago my best friend of 24 years lost his wife of 15 years to a heart disease at 43 found by their 5 year old child. It was a defect. Not a day goes by I dont think of the loss of my friend. There are no words anyone can say to make it better. Stay strong through the process. The MTB community is strong, so are you. My best wishes to your family. Hang in there brother.

  • 5 0
To all of you, dudes, MANY MANY MANY THANKS!!! I cannot believe how much support I received. Nor did I imagine how much warmth this would bring to my heart. My wife has brain ("lepto-meningeal" for those of you with a medical background) metastases and is going through radiation therapy. I've been with her at the hospital every day of this week - one more week to go and then it will be more chemotherapy. I am hanging in there thanks largely to your support. My in-laws are visiting in a week or so and I plan on using this time to go riding a bit - maybe on the fat bike if we get some snow in the meantime.
  • 1 0
I know its may be hard to think about, but you also have to take care of yourself. Hang in there, lots of good vibes heading your way!
  • 1 0
 Good vibes to you vinyl56!
  • 8 0
Just another comment about the Remedy. I did appreciate the support I got from you all and it really helped me. I can never thank you all enough for it. However, when it comes to winning the bike, I think fairness should prevail above all and - as in any other lottery - the winner should be designated by chance. I am actually pretty happy for Johnmoore55 who won the bike and hope he gets a lot of fun with it. I must add that Anthill - moved by my story - decided to offer me a T-shirt. I find that a very nice gesture for which I hereby thank them. Had a ride this week-end and came home feeling happy for the first time in a long while - a bit of respite in a damning ordeal. Good vibes to you all!

Best start for a day full of engineering lectures!
But how the f... did they film the segment with the bear???
  • 9 0
ha, no school means no engineering lectures, which means more times to watch this over and over on a big screen with surround sound Wink
  • 28 0
It was a trained bear. They show it in the end
  • 7 1
 just, unReal !
  • 101 1
They paid the bear quite a lot of money.
  • 2 3
Buy the film and you will know...
  • 3 0
They might have given him the Remedy!
  • 12 0
Screw cats and dogs, I want a bear now
  • 3 2
It's bear "grylls" wearing a costume.
  • 4 0
Is it the same trained bear that they put in dementia house inlife behind bars?
  • 1 2
 @Aarrce
why watching this when you can be doing this...
  • 29 1
I heard the bear was a real diva. He constantly complained about the food on set, that his trailer was too small, and that his part in the movie was too short. The worst though is that he kept giving all the riders advise on how to do their tricks better.
  • 11 2
Its the same bear who chased the enduro bike last year. Apparently he still can't stand enduro
  • 2 1
i had engeniring lectures all day and a mecanics exam and when i got home, i found this magic film!!!
  • 9 1
There was a rich dentist off to the side with a huge bow and arrow ready to blast it if it got too close.
  • 5 1
It was a plea bargain deal. The Bear mauled someone in Alaska. The bear had a good lawyer. They were going to put him down, but said he could spend the rest of his life in captivity doing movies under the court's supervision. Good deal for the Bear.
  • 1 0
Trained or not, i shouldn't go close to that beast. I was scared to hell to watch. But... thanks guys, it was amazing.
  • 1 0
It was the trained bear that was in the life behind bars episode with Brandon Semenuk!!! I knew it!
  • 1 0
Just now had the opportunity to watch the last 15min of the movie and saw the trained bear, but your explanations were waaaaay better Big Grin
Still an awesome part, made me skip the last lecture and go biking before it got dark.
Best decision I made today Big Grin
  • 3 0
Watch the credits - that bear is a big cuddly baby.
  • 54 5
I've got 5 things to say

1. How the f*ck did they film the bear scene

2. James doreflings crash was what gives me nightmares

3. Brook MacDonald and Steve smith are f****** fast

4.whats that little weird head tucky thing Rheeder does

5. Best MTB movie to date

  • 6 0
 when was the doerfling crash?
  • 7 2
@frix182 hope you're kidding man this part is imo the best of the movie !! absolutely BRILLIANT!
  • 21 10
Likely going to get downvoted to hell for this one, but:

#3. You take someone as fast as these two, and as exciting to watch as Brook and put them in a wide open field? Boring as shit and a total waste of their immense talent!
  • 3 0
@ctmtb98 Either that clip of him high siding during the ice segment with Aggy and McCaul or during the credits when he overshoots the landing and the spikes on his tire go into his leg. (Which thankfully didn't cut him deep enough for him to start bleeding profusely)
  • 6 1
@spinko Kinda agree. Fast and technical would have felt more unReal.
  • 1 0
I really liked Brook and Stevie's part ,they took "if the trail's not tech enough, just go faster"to the next level.
  • 51 3
This movie might be the greatest out this year... depending on Star Wars.
  • 25 1

I love hating on Steve Smith, but watching him and Brook shred that steep ass, flat and dusty turns with no berms was amazing!! Give me pure shredding like that any day over slow flips. damn stevie can scoot

The irony of watching this in my cubicle, hiding the video from my boss, and riding later today is... unreal. Just hope i don't get chased by a bear on my ride!

Love the riding, love the shooting, love the concepts but why oh why did they skip the sound design, feels unfinished. It hurts me that more time wasn't put into crafting the sound aspect. Everything in this video makes noises and it feels so empty without them. Music tracks on their own don't cut it, taken it from an epic video, to a musical montage. Otherwise outstanding shit.
  • 3 4
Agree, it feeled so weird at the begining, later I got used to it.

such a nice movie with such a nice ending, makes me see the rain from a different perspective..in fact, i think i am going to leave school now... escape my cage and explore the free

I think unReal and Builder should be packaged and sold together like a black and white a side b side thing. one is awesome cause it is unreal and the is awesome cause it is very real
  • 7 0
the horses scene... No wonder they are one of me most majestic animals. The lines, the backdrop, the movement. Everything was perfect.
  • 3 0
I was preparing for a scene of horse euthanasia, after watching them freak out and stampede down a rocky surface.
  • 5 1
The three things I have stuck with since I was a kid back in the day are 1) surfing, 2) skiing, and 3) mountain biking. It just seems like over the last 3 decades I can't imagine any other sports that have progressed beyond more.
  • 8 4
That was awesome, the only complaint I have is there is too much slow mo. I would love to see at least half of the airs/tricks at full speed instead of almost none of them. You just don't get a feel for what is happening with the slow mo, particularly with steezeburgen's front flip.

Semenuk's section is amazing.
  • 3 0
Absolutely Brilliant! Completely refreshing production. Epic locations, great shots of wildlife bringing locations and terrain into context, fitting but varied music, perfect use of slo-mo, great segments, a good bit of humour, great mix of tricks & speed & tech riding, perfect rider cast. Best mtb film I've seen in years, if not ever. Thank you

Wet, dark, Shitty Friday - Forgot this was available today - hooked up to the Tv, cracked a beer turned the lights out and pressed play........................who cars about the weather, time of year, shitty day - this is a beautifully shot film that just blew me away - the scenery, wildlife and riding truly stunning.  Hello Heroes!
like your video very much ,you r great team.

It’s a pleasure to meet you here! My name is Jack and I served as the agent and guide for two great movies; “Where the Trail Ends”, and “MTB Heroes”, both shot at Flaming Mountain(Gobi). Flaming Mountain is an undisputedly ideal territory for mountain biking; the view dazzlingly beautiful. Some say the vistas cause one to conjure up images of Mars. With intense natural slopes of soft sand which can only be experienced when your wheels make contact with the earth. It is these incredible scenes which unfold in the movies.

I can’t say exactly when I began to really love this sport. From love of this sport comes my love for helping even more riders experience the incredible riding environment that is Flaming Mountain(Gobi ). I very much look forward to seeing you at Flaming Mountain in the near future!

Ooh, thank you so much for this amazingness!!! My only complaint is, that they released some of the most amazing parts before (ie. Semenuks one shot segment). Just imagine that you'd seen that (and all the other great stuff) first time now and the wow-effect you'd feel now after seeing the complete film.
Newer the less, an amazing feature! Smile

Thanks for streaming the film! The music was unInspired to say the least. What middle-aged Sony exec thought that was a good fit? Surely there are plenty of up and comers on Bandcamp that would've been stoked to give it up for this ripping film. Shit was hella milquetoast and I'm 50.
