He still has a season to go, not retiring yet Tippie

FAVE RIDER ON THE PLANET!!!!!!! I know for a fact he'll always be part of the industry, because, like Warner he IS mountain biking!!!!

DUH, Tippie made it seem that Steve was retiring now, we still get a full season of PEATY!
  • 56 5
I'm not sure why what @christiaan said is a bad thing? stoked for Peaty in his last season on the WC circuit. He's an animal! I'm sure he won't be slowing down anytime soon.
  • 52 3
I wanted to fav tippies comment but it was at 420 and I felt like someone might get mad.

I'm Brett's wife. I am also a massive Steve Peat fan (yet we've never met), so one year for my birthday Brett facebooked Peaty and asked him to friend request me….which he did. Priceless feeling in the morning seeing "Steve Peat wants to be your friend" haha! Peaty is one in a million, and a well earned end of an era for him. The Champ!
  • 38 2
they should make viewing "won't back down" part of school curriculums in the uk. pure class is peat.
  • 22 1
Wish Peat all the best in future endeavors. His appearances in videos have made me stoked to ride a bike a time or two. I always check to see where he's qualifying/finishing; World Cups won't be the same without him.

@bretttippie I love it when mtb heros post comments...makes you seem more real! As another aside, PB needs to interview Mrs. Tippie! What's Tippie like behind the scenes?!?!

Damn! Its a goodbye hello if you ask me. Bravo mr peaty for a job well done.

I hope he has an amazing season and not just in results but rather in being able to fulfil anything else he may want to fulfil in that venue of the sport. He has been such a rad ambassador and, whether he meant to or not, has given so much to those around him. Even to people like me who have never met him, ridden at a level close to him, but rather have enjoyed the presence, sportsmanship, sense of community and positive attitude he has represented the sport with. Thank you Steve and I hope this season is great. That video was amazing in that it really captured the freedom and contentment of biking. I think making the bike always look as fun as it should be was one of my favorite things about him and the riders he circles around him.
  • 3 0
The guy is all of this, and one of the coolest guys on the circuit, if not the coolest. When you see him, just yell "PEATY" and you will always get a response, even when he's in an interview, he will answer your call out!
  • 2 0
PEATY!!!!! Haha, nice, I didn't know that, @dan23dan23
  • 1 0
 Enough said.
  • 15 2
He may be retiring but lets not forget, he STILL SHREDS faster than most of us could possibly comprehend.

He rocked up at the Trans-Savoie Big Alpine Enduro on the 1st day of the 2014 event, took the stage win on every stage - against some pretty tough Enduro-Pro competition like Neil Donoghue and Jamie Nicoll. Totally racing blind, no special training, just natural talent.

Lets not forget this was the morning after Josh Bryceland won the World Cup at Meribel. In other words, Peaty had a rocking hangover, but good to his word, he still made it to race and still nailed it like the true pro he is.

Don't believe me?

@christiaan. I know you weren't bagging on Peaty, just stoked he had another year. Misguided downprops (I'm sure I'll join you soon) One of the best riders, and certainly the best advocate for our sport ever. Looking forward to the next year. "PEATY!!!"

It should be on the dirt shed show tomorrow that Neil got beat by a hungover Peaty.

He's inspired me in so many ways, #LEGEND

On top of being an absolute savage on a bicycle and the greatest downhiller to ever live, Steve Peat survived running with Lord Warner and Napalm during the wildest days of World Cup racing! Something us mere mortals wouldn't have survived two hours doing.
  • 4 0
I'd like to know which race will be his last, as it'd be worth the travel to have beer in the same bar! Such a champ! Go Pinball!!!!!!

In the words of Rob Warner "Steve Peat has done more for montain biking that Bin Laden did for terrorism"

This is indeed true. Steve, your legacy will live on forever!

True as it is, my mind can't bear having these two names in the same sentence. Mountainbiking is a different world to me of peace, love and happiness. They already crashed the party of rock 'n' roll, damn. That said, respect to Steve Peat to compete one more year after having been sidelined for an entire season. Definitely wish him the best, stay healthy and make this final season count!

The post-race party at the last event of next year's WC is going to be absolutely insane... Peaty's farewell party, I can only imagine this will be the party of the decade in MTB history.

  • 2 0
Although will his last ride be vallnord? I don't mean to be negative but will he be on the British team selection?

I'm gonna have to agree with @bpaliwoda on this one. lol although what @pejaymedia said was disturbingly humorous.

Steve Peat you have remained an inspiration through so many years of racing and riding. I'll never forget storming the finish area in Canberra when you finally won the rainbows. Hope you know how many of us, young and old (like me) have been inspired by your riding, your attitude, your professionalism and your way of keeping riding and racing fun.

I think the one video segment to have the greatest influence on my life was Steve's part in NWD 3; heli-shuttling with Aces High. I still get goosebumps when I play that song and my mind goes directly to biking, a direct result of that clip. Thanks for being such a stand-up guy and not being a dick-head in real life! Best of luck wherever your career takes you from here!

What a great career. The main man! Still love his scene where he's on his GT LTS in Getta Grip down those steps. Never gets old. Long live the legend that is Peaty! The last of the originals!

A consumate professional and without a doubt the biggest icon in mountain biking. A world class competitor with a grass roots approach to all those who have admired his talents over the years. I think more than anyone Steve has taken what is essentially a fringe sport and pushed it more into limelight, spearheading the sport through its infancy to its now much more diverse and mature outlook. Glad to say Ive seen him ride, spoken briefly with him and enjoyed watching his career throughout the time Ive been in the sport. lots of love to you fast lad, guna be a special one watching this next season.

That means it's time to get my arse up to Fort William next year to see you race your final world cup there, since Freecaster and now Redbull started online live streaming i've been a lazy arse and not been up there for a few years, even though it's only a 2 1/2 hr drive.
I saw my greatest ever live sporting memory back in 2005, you stood in front of me with your Orange over your head in the finish arena, the crowd going absolutely MENTAL, your eyes were all glazed over....so were mine....and all around me were faces with the same big stupid grin and glazed over eyes, it really was that emotional
I've no doubt it'll be just exactly the same MENTAL experience next year when it comes around for the last time, no matter what result you get in the race, just stay fit enough to bloody race man haha. utter legend of the sport and what you've taken from it you've given just as much back, I tip my cloth cap with one hand and raise a pint in the other to you Peaty, thanks for the memories :-)
  • 9 4
I hereby suggest that as a mark of respect that at the 2016 world champs, that all the male riders coast down the course and give Peaty one more world title... Never gonna happen, but would be kinda cool even though I'm sure Peaty would never want a title to just be given to him (Unless it was the title 'Sir' lol )
  • 5 0
First things first, there aren't enough good beards like that in mountainbiking.

Secondly, I got into biking only 3 years ago, and I remember cruising Pinkbike for one of the first times and seeing one of Peaty's videos and thinking to myself "Whoa, this dude is cool. And he mountainbikes! Mountainbiking is so cool". Not knowing who he was or his accolades, I just saw a sweet guy who loved being on a bike and also seemed to be awesome off the bike. And its those kind of riders and mentalities that I like to associate mountainbiking myself with. I can think of no better person to be the image of the joy and passion of mountainbiking than Mr Steve Peat, and I look forward to seeing what he does next.

The first time i ever saw peaty ride in the flesh was at bringe wood in 03 he hit the middle jump at the road crossing and landed at the bottom of the landing almost flat on the road, then to every one s astonishment he sprinted across the road in to the tightest slippery horrible rock section you had every seen. everyone was amazed it was like seeing a super hero, he blew everyone away that day and took the world cup that year on orange.i didn't have a hero until i saw steve peat..... the living legend all hail peaty....

The comments on this video are going to be endless. I grew up on bikes, then fell out of the sport as friends and family also stopped riding. Steve, Josh, Greg, and the rest of the rad world cup DH scene helped get my wife and I back into it. Biking is the best thing we do. This is Peaty helped me remember the joy of riding bikes again.  Steve Peat an absolute legend. I've never met the man to thank him personally for all that he's given to this wonderful sport we all love so much. If he happens to stumble upon my comment then:

Steve, thanks for being one of the worlds best shredders of ALL TIME. Thanks for making me laugh at all the funny ass videos and pranks you did with the team. Thanks for inspiring me, I'm getting older but you prove even as we age we can still KICK ASS. I know you'll still be riding and contributing to the sport so enjoy life after the race with family and friends~~

Every time I start thinking I'm too old for this sport (i.e. riding steep stuff, or hitting up some jumps). I just think of Steve Peat, Cedric or Fabien and go "f*ck it. Keep pushing till the wheels fall off!!" Awesome to have living legends to look up to.

Steve, I'm sure you'll never get down this far on the comments, but if you do... I have a lump in my throat writing this. Over the years your passion, commitment and drive has been infectious, you're an inspiration, and you will continue to be so for generations and generations to come. Since the day you signed my Jason Mcroy poster, i've been a massive fan, Mountain biking became my escape and sanctuary, it's the one thing in my life i can truly stand by and say 'this is me' and I'm proud to feel that way. It's shaped my life, given me confidence when i needed it and has stood as something i can always rely on. Dude, i think i speak for many, you'll be sorely missed, professional MTB won't be the same without you. Cheers for everything you'd done. Good on you Steve

Best of luck to Peaty for 2016! I would love to see the 'Legends race' seen at the last round of the BDS expanded to a world stage where it could be a support race to the World Cup or even minimum the just at the World champs. Imagine seeing Peaty, CG, Barel, Palmer, Warner, Vouilloz etc ripping it up and passing on their experience to the gun guns. You could also throw it open to other Legends of Mountain biking on an invitational basis like Hunter, McCaul, Shandro, Simmons, Tippie just to name a few.

Sad day but had to happen sometime I suppose. What a career he's had and the things he's done for the sport. He's the guy that's always been racing since I started mtb a long time ago it's the end of an era. I remember meeting him for the first time at the bike show in the NEC 15 years ago, I was that star struck I couldn't even speak haha. I still have the picture framed in my room to this day.  I just hope he qualifies for at least a few of them - it won't be easy, having not raced all last year and the one he tried, he didn't make the cut. And I understand now the UCI has lowered the qualification amount down from 80 riders. Tough just to make a slot for everyone who isn't a top gun. UCI choked on that if that's correct.
  • 1 0
Another legend moving on. I love Peaty. He is fast, got sick style, and he is very nice guy. I never seen him refuse a picture with a kid or an autograph. I bought his book at the World Champs 2015 in Andorra, and he signed it without me really asking.
  • 1 0
Just read on dirtmountainbike.com that he might not be able to race as he isn't on a trade team nor does he have 30 UCI points. Would be a shame. Only option seems to be if his national cycling federation puts him forwards and he races their kit.

This man is the definition of a Legend. Twenty five long years of professional mountain bike racing, rarely off the podium the whole time. A man who put fun first and won while doing it. And all the while took time to give back so much to the sport, to young aspiring racers and to his sponsors. To me, and so many others Steve Peat defines what the heart and soul of what mountain biking is. He's been a constant source of inspiration to us, and thrown fuel on the fire that's kept us riding for so many years. A well deserved retirement for a Legend. Sad his career is coming to an end, but so stoked to watch his final world cup season unfold! Wow, we're all so old now that our hero's are retiring!

Hoping peaty can snag a win or two on his final year, another world championship can be a great send off too Smile

A true legend - enjoy your retirement but before you do, give it some in 2016!
  • 1 0
The title "legend" has never been more apt for anyone else in the sport, Peaty truly is one.
Fair play to him, 25 years is a long time to be at the absolute sharp end of the sport. I can't wait to see what he does next.
  • 2 0
I've been watching Peaty since he came on the scene in the 90's .... DH won't be the same without him, but it was a hell of a run!
  • 2 0
Surely Wharncliffe woods should be an WC track for Peatys last season!! Total legend, growing up watching Peaty and Warner made mountain biking the sport it is now for me!!
  • 1 0
More time for family, casual rides, and a fine pint (or 6). Seems like a great call to me. Thanks for all of the inspiration over the years Peaty, and here's to you crushing it this coming season!
  • 1 0
Pints up to a great legend that has motivated, inspired and thrilled most all of us over the years!! May you never loose the love of the ride !! Thanks for all the great rides mate!! Cheers!

My favorite part is the 'Bulls on Parade' segment of Seasons where the camera goes into slo-mo for a second to focus on Peat's eyeballs. Sam Hill wins but damn that bit of film making gets me jumping.
  • 1 0
Such a Bad A! There just something to say about people who perform at extremely high levels into their upper 30's and beyond. You won't understand until you do it. Cheers Steve!
  • 1 0
For you younger guys that don't know, the 1982 Fiat Spyder 2000 was an extremely fun car to drive. I was fortunate enough to own one. There are still a few left out there. Now, where was he riding?
  • 2 0
Win one more World Cup and share that record with Greg! See you in Cairns Peaty

Dare i mention 'Enduro' ????? but looking at our fella on a bike, he can move, and skills ? Would be great to keep him in the sport, on a bike, doing what he does best...
  • 1 0
I honestly would not be surprised to see that happen at some point.
  • 2 0
