Today Red Bull Media House releases “Danny MacAskill’s Wee Day Out” - the next fascinating and entertaining riding clip from Danny MacAskill. The latest blockbuster clip sees the world-renowned street trials rider take a rare day off and go for a spin on his mountain bike in the glorious Scottish countryside.
Only two weeks after launching his first autobiography, Danny is already adding to his legacy with his next unreal two-wheeled expedition. Unique from anything he’s released before, Danny jumps on his Santa Cruz 5010 this time and takes mountain biking to another level.
This time the 30-year-old takes his viewers on a trip through Scotland, whilst being accompanied by the lively tune of “National Express” by “The Divine Comedy”, which will surely put a smile on every viewers face. Thereby he presents his home country as it most probably never has been presented before. Danny transforms natural features of rolling Scottish hills into the ultimate rider’s playground; combining the best of technical trail riding with Danny’s impressive trials skills.
With moments of incredible riding combined with a portion of tongue-in-cheek scenes, the fun-loving clip sees Danny pull off never-seen-before tricks; most of which would normally be assumed impossible on a mountain bike. Unique tricks include a scrub to barrel roll, a submerged water crossing and hay bale ride.
Danny MacAskill’s Wee Day Out is the latest in an unrivalled portfolio of smash hit clips from MacAskill, such as Epecuén (11 million views), Cascadia (17 million views), Way Back Home (38 million views), The Ridge (44 million views) and Imaginate (58 million views).
Of the new project Danny says, “Although I’m doing very abnormal riding, I set out to make a video that hopefully relates to the normal rider. Every rider has had to ride through a puddle when it's been a bit unknown how deep the centre of that puddle is, it just so happens that the puddle in my film is 6ft deep. I wanted to do a video on the mountain bike again and give myself creative freedom with this film. It's meant to be a fun day out on the bike, so I wanted it to be quite light hearted.”
Danny MacAskill’s "Wee Day Out" is a Red Bull Media House production produced by Cut Media
...though I do like the choice of tune, which for the benefit of international friends, is a deeply sarcastic take on the British equivalent of Greyhound buses
Danny MacAskill´s got skills... what do you gonna do about it.. Love you man! hope you´re still here when my grandsons come to the world! I wanna show them that whats sounds impossible is impossible, unless you´re Danny MacAskill
@john260164: Thanks! If you have time you can check out this www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV0zxgDZUhI video with Danny. It is only 7 min long but when the helicopter lends in this video I want to cry...))))
At least the outtakes help you realize he has trial and error (while pulling off things we normal humans cannot even imagine). Where in the hell does he get some of these ideas?
@johnski - please don't compare Danny's exceptional riding to a perverted industry that ruins lives. Pornography is a wretched hellhole that needs to be talked about and not casually mentioned.
@leopaul: we are discussing it because it was mentioned casually as if it is ok. I am assuming you think our points are dumb because you think they are wrong or you don't care? Do you know what actually happens behind the scenes? no part of that is ok. 88% of porn films contain unwanted violence towards women. 20 percent of all Internet porn contains actual child sexual abuse. Many women in the porn industry are being trafficked and forced against there will why is that ok? Check out fight the new drug for more stats on what it does to the brain as well.
@redrider522: no. I think just because illegal porn exists doesn't mean porn in generell is a bad thing. That's just like saying illegally driving a car makes driving cars bad in generell
@nfstreet4life: That is the problem though many of them are forced, threatened, or coerced into looking as if that is the way it is and then anything that says otherwise can be edited out. There are many first hand accounts of this you can read about.
@leopaul: I was talking about how much of it is illegal or forced yet no one seems to want to talk about it or care. Even the "legal" porn has many negative effects that you can read about. Here are a few links. @nfstreet4life please at least take the time to read the first link.
You can find more information on other sites that was just in case anyone actual wants to learn a little more. Regardless there is a massive problem on the illegal side that is mostly overlooked and I think that is a problem.
Also @leopaul I do appreciate you actually discussing it and giving your points cause most people just want to right it off and don't care at all.
@obee1: You don't even know what an SJW is. I actually would not support the majority of the sjw movements, the modern feminist movement, or anything that American SJW's are for. I just don't like sex trafficking or abuse and rape of women. That by definition does not make me an SJW.
@meesterover: Many of these "Tricks" are BMX oriented. Like the crankarm grinds, pedal natas spin, fakies, sliders, etc... Danny has some amazing talent to seamlessly integrate classic 20" tricks to any bike whether it be a trials bike, road, of trails bike.
good, now look around and try to objectively identify that your "save the world from pornography" campaign is going on during an article focused on a cool guy having fun while riding a bike. now, we can all appreciate that you seem to be excited about addressing all the worlds problems on a mtn bike website, but perhaps you should save some of your insightful comments and concerns for your second year liberal arts/ womens studies classes. meanwhile, i'm gonna go eat a dolphin sandwich and watch about three minutes of redtube.
@obee1: Your last comment deserve gold medal on the "comment's Olympic games"! I have been laughing for an 30 min... Actually I wanted to say the same thoughts but your interpretation is really awesome! Nothing to add nothing to subtract!
@redrider522: you could always protect yourself with one of your big Margaret atwood books. but I thought you guys had "safe spaces" or "trigger warnings" to prevent dolphin dietary inspired violence.
@obee1: I must admit I had no idea who that was till roughly 3 seconds ago. I could just defend myself with my shotgun but then everyone is going to tell me that I should not be able to own it. "Safe Spaces" and "Trigger Warnings" are a joke and proof America is at a low point.
@redrider522: so lemme get this right. first you sound off on a pornography moratorium because you didn't like the analogy someone used while complimenting the video. and then you decide to educate me on the ins and outs of the SJW landscape. Now you are a gun toting vigilante lamenting the downfall of a once great nation?
perhaps its because those american inhabitants are fashionably wasting their time expressing how offended they are at any opportunity possible over otherwise harmless content, or those same inhabitants are too busy talking about white knight issues like domestic violence/violence against women, instead of actually doing something about it. like say, oh i dunno, gettin all pissy over someone calling a cool video "high quality mtn bike porn".
america is just fine, its not a low point, but some of the residents of this wonderful nation just need to research margaret atwood a little less and Chopper Reid a little more.
@obee1: I am a conservative christian who has a problem with what goes on in the porn industry and you called me an SJW so I pointed out that that was not true then you said I was essentially a feminist liberal arts person and at that point I stopped being serious and was just joking cause you did not seem to care. I am not saying we are screwed either it was a joke but we are headed in a bad direction in my opinion.
@somguy: How adorable. first a gun toting Yankee worried about porn, now here's an Englishman concerned about the plight of other nations. If the next person commenting is a Chinese dude concerned about the environment, I'm gonna freak out. (Just joking. Don't trigger on me.)
@UPBike: Yes anyone who doesn't know the porn industry's huge dark side should do a little reading. I mean, all you too cool hardcore gangsta downvoters do actually LIKE women, right?
@redrider522: Thanks to you and UPBike for giving some voice to the ugly underbelly of porn. Blows my mind that the average reader here can't figure out / just doesn't want to think about his SISTERS/ DAUGHTERS/ NIECES/ etc etc... out there in the industry. And those "just" affected by the graphic demonstration that violence against women is not only okay but even idealized.
That part where he first gets off the train and rides seated down the sidewalk - I can do that as well as Danny. If he needs a stunt double for stuff like that, I am the man!
He has an insane amount of innate ability in addition to long hours of practice. I think a lot of us could try to practice as much as he does but never reach the same level.
He makes the most difficult things look so routine. Take the very first trick -- jumping off the platform onto that train track. That's got to be close to one of the most difficult tricks in the video. To land on a three-inch-wide piece of relatively slick steel from three or four feet up and then ride on it like it's nothing... And how many of us gave that even a second look?
@TheR: innate ability + practice is an interesting one. Combination of both gives you Danny or Chris Akrigg or Sam Hill. How many have practiced almost as much as Danny and didn't get there? If we ask that question then consequently we must ask: how many genuinely talented guys (perhaps even more talented than Danny) haven't practiced enough?
The one thing is sure, practice is available for everybody and anybody can excell to a quite high level if he works 1.Smart (obligatory) and 2. Hard (optional). For too many people, the concept of talent is a mean of dealing with their shortcomings, where that mean should be practice.
@WAKIdesigns: I think you see it all the time in sports. There's always that guy whom everyone thinks *could* be at that level, but has a reputation for not training or practicing hard enough. You've got them in every sport. I used to coach high school sports and saw it all the time. I even had a kid come back and tell me, "Coach, I did only this much, but look at everything I achieved." My only reply was, "Yeah, but we'll never know how much more you could have achieved if you did everything you were asked to do." He agreed.
Here's the really mind-boggling thing. Think about the guys who ARE at this level. Not only do they have mind-boggling natural ability, and not only do they work hard, but they also had to have the good fortune of stumbling upon the sport in which they would become world-class athletes. What if Danny never got interested in riding bikes, and instead tried his hand at any one of hundreds of different activities he had to choose from -- football, tennis, basketball, violin... Would he have been the same world-class athlete/artist in those other sports? Think Michael Phelps. He was lucky enough to start swimming. What if he never stumbled into that arena? So in that respect, I think there's a bit of luck involved, and for everything to come together the way it has for those at the top... Well, the odds are just astronomical.
@TheR: One thing is sure, I have never seen anyone being really good at something he didn't genuinely enjoyed doing, that he was so obsessed about that hours and hours spent on it, wouldn't seem like a perverse pleasure to him. I remember very well, sitting the whole summer of 1999 and drawing 3d models of Ah64 Apache and Bf-109 Messerschmitt, That was all I was doing for 3 months. My parents were going crazy. In a way I sucked at it. But that persistence is what makes me good at my current job.
Also, please don't forget that dude like Danny or Hamilton, Mercury or Musk have put huge portion of their lives into it. So large that most of us mere mortals would never take sacrifices they took. We have friends, family, parents getting sick, jobs contributing directly to well being of other people (you must admit that being a pro athlete is not directly productive...) Each life is a constellation of happenings. Like this planet being EXTREMELY unique and rare thing in the vastness of universe... a coefficient of collisions that took place through the course of time. Still , the opportunities are for those who are ready to grab them.
@WAKIdesigns: Yes! They have to love it to put in all the work it takes to be the best. That's a question I'd love to ask some of these athletes: Can you describe for me a little bit how much you must love this sport to spend all the hours you spend to perfect your craft to such an extent? And why? Why do you love it so?
@pbuser92071: @pbuser92071: I was looking at that too....but it has a cassette on it....there aren't any cassette freecoasters other than the Chosen one...and I don't even think that's produced anymore...
Tree slide! Picnic table nose manual smith grind with the back tire! Pedal 360 on the pole! Back roll backflip to revert! And lets not forget..."uh oh, Im gonna case this landing. better just HUCK A FRONT FLIP and ride away!!!! A+
Amazing how many people had the same reaction. You can't help but smile while you watch this. Danny is not only insanely talented at riding but he is also an ace personality that everyone loves.
Feels like watching NDW all over again. Seeing things on a bike that I have never ever imagined to be possible.
Congratulations to Danny, for yet another incredible video!
Glad they include the outtakes at the end. Shows this is a combination of talent but also really hard work, practicing, falling constantly, but getting back on the bike, over and over. Hard work and dedication leads to perfection
Listening to him on BBC radio 5 today. To submerge in the puddle (built by a mate with a JCB) he drilled the frame of his 5010 so he could fill it with sand. I had tears in my eyes just listening.
Didn't think it is possible, but feel like riding in his videos moved 5 levels up since he has moved to full-sus. Danny is clearly most imaginative rider ever.
Progression is so fun to watch! Danny is taking it to another level for a long time now. Who cares if the puddle thing looks fake or is CGI? Not me, such a cool shot and idea. I have to go now to practice my trial marker foot plant 360's and my tree slides.
could make an interesting addition to the Syndicate riding a Santa Cruz .... can you picture the creative lines down the WC circuit ....and no one else will follow
This is just silly I mean just like when you are watching an action movie and things you see are soo unbelievable that they are just silly and ridiculous.
Not only does he have mad skills, the tricks are always so original, the videos so well produced, and there is always such a vibe of playfulness to these movies. I love it.
I was wondering! ...Noticed how he just hit the ground hard and shot forward with seemingly no bounce/shock compression... arms of steel coming in like that and just THROWING it!
@WoodenCrow: No doubt eh? Here I've been struggling trying to get frontflips around into foam pits. All I have to do is just case some jumps and they'll come around no problem!
My five year old little rider will learn that falling is part of making people great. Thanks for letting all that footage after the movie to see that Danny, although gifted with mighty powers, is not god ... yet ;-)
My first thoughts were that it was all looking too easy, then you see (and remember) that he puts in so much effort to make these edits happen. I remember watching Imaginate and the number of attempts and hard landings of that flare onto the fake train platform. Tough lad. Top lad. And awesome seeing his dad in this one.
Love seeing him on mountainbikes, entertaining us like few can. The fact that he is from Isle of Skye and became what we see here and can entertain millions of viewers that ride or don't ride by just going for a bike ride makes him so special to watch. Somewhere in those millions of viewers some young one will be the next one that takes this stuff to higher and higher levels of mind bending stunts.
Danny -- absolutely inspiring how much fun you have on a bike. Huge thanks for all the practice, hard work and enthusiasm you put into those mindblowing moves. Thanks for coming to Earth to share how effortlessly bike can be thrown around in whatever galaxy you're from!
Before someone knocks me for not being grateful for this free entertainment to brighten up my morning.
Not a knock on the video at all, Danny and film crew are on point as usual.
One of the most controlled riders out there. Absolutely INSANE. Never seen anyone nada spin on a bike(2:22) or that case to front flip, or frame sliding over some fallen down log.
Danny's videos always bring smile on my face and give a lot of inspiration! I don't know whose this job is... Maybe stage director or cameraman or sponsor's managers. But anyway it is awesome! Good job as always!
only 42 seconds in and I'm mumbling "what the f****" as tea dribbles from my mouth and the biscuit I just dunked falls in half into the rest of my cuppa!
Holy CGI budget Batman! Pow, Wap - ZONK! There's just too much $ in mtb videos. We need to get back to humans riding bikes. Too much time wasted on this video game superhero Danny Mac. When's the EASports game dropping? Troll...troll...troll.
cant believe pink bike puts this up 5 hours after all the national news websites... id have thought a dedicated MTB site would have had it up before the rest... esp as it was publicised for the last 2 days..

my guess is a false gear used as a free coaster, like what some street and slope guys do.

Also, I wonder how many people are going to go out and ruin their carbon frames trying log slides
So yep, I'm practicing. Endo's, hops, precision. Seems like a long way to go still (but I'm enjoying the process).
Danny: "Alright, first trick is to ride this railroad track..."
Me: "F**K!"
Me: "No."
Man that was way too much awesome to handle...DM is clearly the boss!
its all matter of balance
