Instead of "looks like a session", "looks like a v10"
  • + 105
 An old v10 at that
  • + 115
There's only so many ways to design a VPP dh frame.

An old v10...that hit the ugly tree.....head on.
  • + 21
But the V10 looks like a session?
  • + 97
No thanks, I already have one of those. Can I just get a new sticker package?

Now they'll need to bring back the RST bigfoot or Supermonster to match the rear travel.

i think the session looks like a V10.
  • + 70
You guys are lying if you think that that think is not an ugly bike. Its new ,is red,but it aint not M3,M6 or M9.
Look at the seat junction! Wtf is that?!
Look at the top tube! Did they buy the old Foes hydroforms?!
C'mon people,we can all be honest here
...and ive owned 4 Intense bikes..believe me, this hurts me.
  • + 11
thats your opinion, my opinion is it looks like a session v10. i mean if we have to argue i will. this is pinkbike after all.
  • + 1
Will you go Session,v-10, ugly Foes parts?
  • + 29
The real question is whether it comes with a straight rear triangle..
  • + 38
Can anybody give me ONE reason why I would buy one of these over a 27.5 V10c M16 is - more expensive - heavier - uglier - not carbon
  • + 22
 27.5? That's old... It's all about 20'' now.

  • + 2
My 2015 V10 is up for 4700 Pounds! bargain compared to this
  • + 13
harrybrottman you make great points. The only thing working in its favour is -not made in China Some people care enough to buy one I guess...

That trail, HellR..... is the hardest trail I have ever ridden.

"the M16 will chew up anything you throw at it" including your savings account and credit cards.
  • + 15
They forgot to mention how much it weighs.
  • + 4
I think the head tube area is what disappoints me the most. The earlier spy shots on VitalMTB looked much sleeker:

www.vitalmtb.com/photos/features/PIT-BITS-World-Cup-Lourdes-France,8798/PIT-BITS-Intense-M16-at-Lourdes-World-Cup,88714/sspomer,2

Maybe that's a different size to the ones pictured here? Or perhaps Intense had to add more strength at the head tube on the production bikes.
  • - 2
Where is that trail in So Cal?
  • + 2
The red one kind of reminds of Foes bikes.
  • + 12
It looks like a V 10 because Santa Cruz owns 28% of Intense. Back in 2009 after the financial crisis Intense almost folded. That's when SC came to the rescue and injected 15MM into the company.
  • + 6
looks like a V10 struggling with anorexia
  • + 1
 You obviously haven't ridden 33"
  • + 35
They injected 15 millimetres into them? Just the tip?

most of you people amaze me. if there is a review on any bike other than a dh bike you complain. guess what here is a dh bike and you still talk crap! just like the bike manufactures always coming up with new bs to tell us. why even come to this site if all you can do is gripe about how everything sucks other than your bike. 26" and 29" for life! only have two bike shops within a hour drive so haven't had the chance to ride a 27.5er. honestly have been super content with the two.
  • + 6
It looks like a V10 because intense and santa cruz collaborated on developing a suspension system for a DH bike
  • + 5
Lets do some timed training. You do a run on your favorite track on the aluminum V10. Then do it on the m16 with the same build. That would be sweet! Ill bet youll be faster on the new bike
  • + 16
Its slacker geometry (not for everyone).
It has adjustabable travel (v10 is now fixed).
It has adjustable leverage curve. Meaning you can make it feel linear or progressive. (V10).
Has adjustable headset.
Hand made in CA.
Those are the differences im aware of.
  • + 14
ive been a santa cruz fanboy since i started mtb'ing, since santa cruz butchered the v10 into a v8.5, i will be trying the m16. call me crazy but i like it, alot.
  • + 13
If you change the m to a v and the 6 to a 0 you have v10. Mmmmmmmmmm coincidence? I dont think so.

Does it make me ride like Kovarik? Is so, here is my order!
  • + 0
Looks like an M9 to me, still made out of aluminium? "The result of over two decades of design and innovation" is the same thing they've been doing for the last 5-10 years, getting uglier each time. The world has moved to carbon guys. Get with the program.

@fatenduro, you might be talking about the Risse Bigfoot?
  • + 4
I have the M9 and just converted it to the 27.5 wheels........and it is sick and inexpensive. I already had the darado which clears the wheels with no problem, add the -1 head set cup....put the g3 in the longest setting.....and buy new tires and hoops, which i have to do every year anyway....sometimes more than once. A friend who races for the intense team turned me on to this and he believes its a better bike than the EVO 951.......Cant wait to get some shuttle runs next week!!!!!!!!!!!!! F____CK! the m16 and the 8K$ it cost....I am now the proud owner of the ghetto M16, dont beleive the hype if you have an M9 do this conversion and save a bundle of cash and go on a bike trip or hookers, beer and buds which ever you prefer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • + 2
Great tip. I bet there is a lot of stuff that can be converted to 275 #dontbelievethehype

Now everybody at work is looking at me while I should have absolutely no reason to laugh out loud like I just did.
  • + 3
seriously why that kind of design???
  • + 3
The first thing I thought was, "Looks pretty awesome, but that seat tube ruins it.", Then I looked at a V10 and their seat tube looks much cleaner.

i think M16 is not such a clever name either. I realize that Intense has historically shared their bike names with top end products from other industries, like M3, Carbine, Socom. The M1 was their first DH bike. Then an M9 came out. The M29 was Jeff's vision of a 29r DH bikes. This all makes sense. Now, it's M16 with 27.5 wheels? I read M16 and i thought it would be 26in wheels.
  • + 2
M16 is a killer name, good job, too bad the design doesnt seems to stand up to that, and that seattube is too high btw
  • + 3
They use names of weapons... carbine, uzzi, m1, m16. Its a theme
  • - 1
yeah i kinda got that. i just think it's played out. apologies in advance for an opinion.
  • + 1
 For a while now...

M1 = M1 Garand rifle or M1 Carbine
M3 = The M3 .50 cal machine gun, not to be confused with the M2HB, the M3 fires at twice the cyclic rate
M9 = The beretta 9mm service pistol
M16 = M16 rifle
Socom = Special Operations Command
Carbine = Short rifle such as the M4/M4A1 carbine
Uzzi = Israeli built sub-machine gun
Tracer = A tracer round is a round fired that leaves a lit up trail behind it for approx 900m

  • + 30
Yes it looks like a V10, but it should since it uses the same suspension design that they license from Santa Cruz. Considering that the suspension layout and linkage is generally what makes each frame unique, how much different could you expect these bikes to be? There is only so much you can do to church up the front and rear triangles and still use the same suspension.
  • + 17
I disagree. The Intense 951 Evo looks a lot different than any V10 and it uses VPP...
  • + 0
even all the m3,6 and 9
  • + 21
Intense should have killed the M Series and went with a carbon 951 in 2012.
  • + 2
It look like a melted v10 The rear is horrible
  • + 1
But the 951 is sub par to this design. Ive had both. You get a better feel with the shock actuated from the lower link. And the frame is much stiffer. Plus the weight is right above the BB where you want it for a dh bike. The 951 is to satisfy the weight weenies
  • + 31
Does it really matter how it looks? I thought was about how it feels when you're going balls out?
  • + 14
Somebody around here has their priorities straight!
  • + 2
 But do they really??

  • + 24
seems like pinkbike is home for A LOT of world cup level pro riders. i see a lot of hate and criticism from people who never even tried the bike. i like how it looks, but that's a personal opinion based on a lot of factors (and i'm biased 'cause i own an M9). Seems like if something is not made of carbon, then it'S rubbish. i wonder how many of the guys that says all this kind of stuff are really capable of pushing a bike like this to its limits. and i wonder how many of those same guys are really in need to shove a kg off the bike going carbon. Are we all running agains the clock? i don't think so. we ride for fun. we ride for passion. and IMHO, taking into consideration who rides a bike and with which results when buying a new rig it's on the same level of those who buy canons 1DMk4 and call themselves professional photographers.
  • + 2
I agree... all these people saying it looks like a V10 most probably don't own one. They're just commenting for the sake of commenting.
  • + 4
And you're commenting on people commenting for the sake of commenting, people should be able to comment without having comments made about their commenting.

  • + 15
@Josephhenery why? we have done it before. it's stupid. the super monster t does not exist anymore for a reason.

we have the technology, it's just obvious that piling on travel does not make bikes perform any better. the suspension tune and geometry matter far more, and after a certain point the geometry just becomes completely f*cked up when you keep lengthening forks and shocks.
  • + 12
 dang someone got serious
  • + 5
215 or 240mm, these vpp designs have always run more sag than a normal design.

Yep, excessive travel was last decade. For this decade we're gonna run with excessive tire.

Gwin just won Lourdes on a stiff set-up using only about 2/3rds of its V10 travel. More travel is not necessarily better or faster.

  • + 7
Hey INTENSE..I think the M16 is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!!!!!!!!.....nice work..Can't wait for a few reviews. I'm sure it will ride awesome like all your bikes.
all this negative crap about the M16's Aesthetics reminds me of when Scott bikes introduced the new generation Gambler..2013..everybody thought it was ugly..but as time wore on, and reviews trickled out, more and more people were buying Gamblers (seemed they were everywhere in Whistler 2013)..now people seem to really like them..so..the M16 needs to Marinade a little bit..pretty soon..lots of people will be Rockin M16's and praising their beauty!!!
Keep the good stuff coming!!!!..and thanks for a gorgeous new bike!

I wonder what made Pinkbikers so sour. Few years ago I was one of the very few who were whining on almost anything that came out, I got out of it, but now btchn beats all records, bad price, bad looks, bad width of the hub, bad wheel size. My guess is that apart from many small things, 650B squeezed out so mch sht out of people (including me) that whatever new falls in here gets immediately covered with that, Boost didn't help either.

Look guys! That is a really good bike! Red Intense DH bikes are Ferraris of bicycle world. At least it does not look like a session! So let's flush the crap and look a the world with clear eyes, it is really not that bad up here. I know that stupid PR claims fly at us from all directions at every detail of a simple machine that bicycle is, but we humans yield the power to be above it and see the things the way they are, a wheel, a hub, a fork - don't clench to anything, be you Big Grin

Future may be in different sizes but it's still JUST A f*ckING BIKE!

Kovarik wore a helmet cam for some of the riding in that video. He's lucky to be alive.

Look at the big picture, guys. Carbon frames = more labour going overseas.

And as for the "looks like a V10" comments, there's only so much you can do with the VPP frame design..like others have said. Should I be pissed my car more or less looks like every other hatchback out there?

I'm so sick of PinkBike readers bullshit hater commentary... It's no wonder other website readers take the piss out of it...
The new Intense M16 is a beautiful bike and is no different to the M-series lineage. The majority of you need to get an original thought inside your heads ffs...

''...but its not carbon... its looks like a v10... its heavy... it'll crack... bitch bitch moan moan...'' REALLY?? If you don't like it - f*ck OFF and go ride your plastic ''I've got the latest that costs $$$$ and its carbon/graphite/unobtainium'' propoganist bullshit. Its hand made, ticks the relevant DH-race boxes and it will probably outlast any carbon bike especially in a crash...
Commencal, Nukeroof, GT, FOES, Rocky Mountain, etc all have ALUMINIUM 2016 offerings, yet the majority of you antagonistic pricks feel the obligation to offer unsubstantiated critiszm on a project that doesn't adhere to you propogandist check list...

Please feel free to either produce your own bikes or if not, just enjoy what you currently have. Its now what you ride or even how you ride, but its WHY you ride that should matter.

Neg props me if you feel so, but for the love of the sport, shut the f*ck up if have negativity towards something... no-ones making you use/ride or even like it.

I'm an Intense fan boy. Currently have four of them, so I'm probably in, but would like to know the weight. Glad they kept building it here in the USA!
  • + 5
I find it hilarious that people gripe about a dozen bikes looking the same (session). Then two look completely different from the herd but similar to each other and people still complain. Long gone are the days of old where all manufacturers look completely different from the rest. If you want carbon buy a v10 (vCool , if youre fine with aluminum or still want 9.5" of travel buy this.
  • + 7
 that video was pretty rad
  • + 2
Classic Kovarik; foot out flat out
  • + 8
 Want. Such sick!
  • + 4
Looks good to me, and for all those who say it looks like a V10, thats because Intense share the VPP patient with Santa Cruz and they have concluded that this is the best design for that suspension platform.
  • + 3
I like this bike. I think it looks good. I ride a 951 EVO and LOVE IT. One thing I find interesting is that the 951 EVO and M16 in a large have the same wheel base but the EVO is a degree slacker and a little lower in the bb. Not saying ones better then the other . Just an observation. That is all.
  • + 7
 The bars are 780mm
  • + 2
All the people hating on this bike have never ridden one. First off, they look sweet in person (But i liked the M9 so maybe thats why), and second off, they ride amazing, and isnt that the true point? We all want a bike that looks good (which, IMO, this does), but most of us would prefer something that rides good. Compared to many of the DH rigs ive tested, the M16 is definitely one of the most efficient designs in terms of suspension activity, low center of gravity, long wheelbase, etc..
  • + 6
rad video, Kovarik is tha man
  • + 2
Guys plz. Look at it. It has this strength and durability in the way it looks. Its designed like 2005-2008 bikes, it is made from alluminium, yet it's packed with newest technology. Imo, they called it M16 because the M16 carbine produced till now didnt change it's looks, but changed every single working part into a better one. I love that bike. It reminds me of old M6's and bighits, and for me, as an old design lover, it's nearly perfect.
  • + 2
I would have sworn it was a beefy V-10, but having ridden a V-10, Demo and Carbon Wilson, I just don't have the lust to put down that much money, nor the interest in jumping on one right now. It does look like it could take a good beating. Like some mountain rhino ready to drop into anything Red Bull would sponsor.

Glad to see this aluminum beast will keep jobs in the USA. Although a carbon version wouldn't be out of the question if the alu M16 generates a lot of interest.

So I am looking at getting a DH bike, but I noticed that they are in general shorter top tubes than my trail bike. I expected the reverse Can someone tell my why I want my bars closer on the big bike when I'm going faster over tech stuff?
  • + 0
Because on a DH bike you're mainly hovering over the back wheel so you don't over weigh the front wheel... ass
  • + 1
I thought we were supposed to ride over the front wheel more now. Especially with how slack new DH bikes are won't the front tire just push if you weight is over the back? Anyone have a good guide to how you ride a long-reach DH bike like a Demo v. a short-reach one like this M16?

Curious why they chose that cable routing. Seems like it's asking to get jacked up on shuttle missions. And seems as how it's a DH specific bike it should see a lot of tailgates. Seems like it followed a decent route going down until the bottom there. Why not go internal there?
  • + 1
Still this one is way sexier...and 27.5.Intense should have gonne this way and a carbon version of this( cdn4.coresites.mpora.com/dirt_new/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/275-m9-278.jpg ).

It looks like a lean M9 which is great. i love my M9 and this just looks more refined imo.
  • + 0
What is wrong with intense these days? They use to be way ahead of everyone else when it came to looks, designs, geometry and quality. This thing looks like someone found the scrap pile of aluminum and welded some bits together. The m9 looked way better in every way. If I walked into a bike shop and saw both this and an m9 hanging on the wall and they were asking $3200 for each frame, I'd ask why is the m16 so expensive? I'll take the m9 thanks. Even better, modify the m9 for your fancy pants 27.5" wheels and make it out carbon. I'll bet people would love it them. But please do keep the long travel option that some of us actually like.

I miss the days when there was some sort of excitement in new bikes.
  • + 0
In the past, intense often represents the advanced, beautiful appearance, design, more adjustable settings. Every time a new bike release, I want to have one. But the M16, I do not have anything to say. If so, may be ugly, nothing new, no innovation, long travel thanks for that.
  • + 0
Intense have not made a top performing bike in many years. I just look at the number of riders (even last year) who were on intense. Their results slid... They are now on other bikes and their results are better again. .... wonder what that means?
  • + 4
Haters gonna hate. This bike looks siiiiick!
  • + 4
Travel doesn't really match bar width...
  • + 1
Sometimes companies make an alloy version before the drop the cabon one! It is a shame though. thought Intense would definitly drop a carbon dh bike. went a bit backwards this time around i guess>
  • + 0
Gorgous! Buut like f off with the 27.5in wheels lol and its just a really big bike. M9 is still the perfect dh bike, the m16 just doesnt seem like itd be fun to ride. Bikes are getting to easy to ride. I best get a new frame now before its to late! Unfortunetly it wont be the M16 Frown
  • + 5
 the new intense v10!
  • + 1
I think the M16 looks like a pretty rad bike. but if the price tag of the M16 is going to be equal or around the new carbon demo price I'd rather spend my money on a new demo.
  • + 1
Looks like a horrible shock location for people who ride in muddy conditions. It doesn't look like a fender is possible either. No matter for people in dry regions but a huge concern around here.
  • + 3
dream build, but they shoulda just went with deemax ultimate
  • + 3
Kovarik could make cellophane nappies look sexy.
  • + 3
275” another wheels size standard? Big Grin
  • + 3
Beatiful bike as to be expected from Intense!!!
  • + 0
Very short reach on the medium, why? And where is the carbon dh frame jeff hinted on years afo in an interview. I love intense bikes but the seattube affair is not the prettiest....
  • + 1
im from so cal and grew up on intenses im just glad there supporting the us with jobs unlike the rest of the industries hiring white boy welders put that into consideration
  • + 0
Not saying it s the wrong tool to go down but c mon We are in 2015 Jeff Bring us something new I was expecting the Carbon version at least Can t imagine the jokes flying in Santa Cruz headquarter this morning
  • + 2
dude.....where is the gun picture???? it is claiming the M16! more guns and more cowbell!
  • + 4
 Sick mental sik
  • + 2
What kind of shitty press release was that? I thought intense would put more hype into its release, and more carbon at that
  • + 1
Spent the whole video waiting for Kovarik to stick a foot out a destroy a turn - and it was worth the wait. That man rips, flats for life.
  • + 1
Is the BB really that high or does the bike run with so much sag that the effective BB height is much lower? Without any load it looks far too high for a race sled.
  • + 1
Stunning but yet again no big frame size and a price tag which will be way out of reach.
  • + 2
Super secret trail brah, 4k descent
  • + 2
Super steezy style panties, long ride down
  • + 1
Out of all the people a slight few might actually have a clue
  • + 1
 what was intense thinking?
  • + 1
I actually really like it. Good on them for sticking to aluminium too.
  • + 0
The seat tube and top tube reminds me of a norco a line from like 2006-2008
  • + 1
what was wrong with the 27.5 951 for race ?
  • + 1
I love it!!! Just not for $8000.
  • + 1
Very weird frame, but i'm sure it's with high preformance
  • + 1
Kovarik on Intense, none more metal
  • + 0
almost the same as my 2009 v10 except the color! It's a pity that I can't upload picture here!
  • + 2

Glad there's an option out there for people who still want an aluminum V10 with (almost) 10" of travel! Oh, wait, I don't think anyone asked for that.
  • + 2
 Very nice! How much?
  • + 1
What The Hell is 157 x12 rear spacing
  • + 3
It's a standard that came out about 3 years ago.
  • + 0
same as norcos last dh bike
  • + 1
Its an oversized hub. I think its standard on the V10 and the Trek Session as well as a few others now.
  • + 1
@gavisasav Actually is the same as almost any DH bike EXCEPT the new Norco.
  • + 6
It is to 150 x 12 what 142 x 12 is to 135 x 12 or 177 to 170 or 197 to 190. Essentially its the full thru-axle version of 150 where the end caps of the hub are an extra 3.5mm longer on each end, so as to fit into slotted spaces in the dropouts so as to make it easier to locate/insert the wheel quickly and properly.
  • + 3
You can fit two 3,5mm spacers between a 150x12 hub and 157x12 dropouts, one on each side. It's not an easy task but it will save you some $€£¥!!!!

probably is amazing to ride, but I do not want to think about hiking that thing up a hill.
  • + 2
 SICK!!!
  • + 1
fuck porche, bmw ,ferrari.... I just want a intense!!
  • + 1

  • + 0
This frame needs Super Monster fork.
  • + 9
 No bike ever did!
  • + 1
 I want M14.
  • - 1
The real question is the weight. I hope it's lighter than the M9 because it's definitely not better looking. Robert
  • - 1
Its an small step for bike industry, but a huge one to look more like a v10
  • + 1
 I dig it
  • + 1
 CK = Insert drift here.
  • + 0
 No frame only option?
  • + 6
Frame only will be available in May
  • + 2
 Pricing known yet?
  • - 1
Sweet video. Anyone know what trail that is? Safe to assume it's in SoCal?
  • + 5
If I was a ranger, I'd proly use sites/comment sections like this, along w/YouTube/strava to find trails and see who is riding them. Don't publicly ask/tell.
  • + 0
 quite a Y frame there
  • - 2
 Love that trail!!!!!
  • - 2
Intense... Loud , heavy and fail
  • - 2
 better to choose v10 cc。
  • - 1
