Randoms - The London Bike Show 2016

The London Bike Show is the UK’s largest cycling exhibition and attracts thousands of visitors each year, all eager to check out the latest bikes and gear. Held at the prestigious Excel convention centre in the heart of the London Docklands, between Canary Wharf and the city Airport. We headed down to check things out and here's a selection of random bikes and gear that you can go and see for yourselves if you're heading to the show this weekend...

Swiss Style: Scott Bikes

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
Unfortunately the most flamboyant racer on the World Cup circuit was absent from the show this year, busy filming a new feature length movie with Clay Porter somewhere exotic. But his 2015 Rampage bike and Troy Lee kit took centre stage on the Scott stand and the level of detail on this one of a kind camo themed Gambler, certainly made it one of the show's star attractions!

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
And how nice does this look? The finish and detailing on Scott bikes has always been meticulous, but the 2016 Genius LT 700 Tuned Plus is something else altogether...

Cube Bikes

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
It was great to see the guys from Cube Bikes make the trip over from Germany, not least because they brought their huge stand and nearly all of their 2016 range.

Banshee Legend

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
With some refinements to the geometry for 2016 and the addition of an XL size in the range, Banshee's premium 205mm travel, 650B gravity slaying machine, looks better than ever.

Intense Cycles Uzzi

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
Intense Cycles' eye catching Uzzi is a hard bike to classify, intended for the kind of rider who likes mixing things up and dislikes rules and stereotypes. Sporting adjustable geometry and a whopping 190mm travel within a chassis that goes up as well as down, the Uzzi is a no holds barred fun machine if ever there was one.

Sheffield Steel - The Cotic Rocket

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
There must be something in the water in Sheffield? Another export from the steel city and from the brand that helped define the UK hardtail scene - Cotic's full suspension trail tamer, the Rocket, looks every bit the smile educing machine its rigid brethren are. Manufactured using Reynolds 853 Ovalform and DZB steel tubing up front and blended with a 7005-T6 aluminium swingarm with a Syntace X-12 142 x 12mm rear axle.

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
Packing 150mm of travel via the Rocket's 'Droplink' linkage, there's even enough room in the back for a 2.5" tyre...
The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
The level of detailing and the number of well-thought out ideas on the Rocket only reinforce its 'real world' pedigree.

Santa Cruz Hightower with 27.5+ Wheels

Santa Cruz Hightower
We've all seen the new Santa Cruz Hightower with 29" hoops, but seeing it with 27.5+ wheels completely transforms the look of the bike and it certainly drew its fair share of admirers.

Purple Power - Vintage 90's GT Zaskar

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
This retro beauty took pride and place on the GT stand and for good reason. Talk about a pleasant blast from the past... Check out that 'brake booster'!

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
GT's heritage in mountain biking is one of the coolest out there.

Guess the year?

Van Nicholas' Titanium Tuareg 29er Hardtail

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
This Dutch 29er was a real head turner and for good reason - just look at it!

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
Now that's a seriously impressive seatstay yolk...

... and then there's the dropouts too. Unadulterated craftsmanship at its best!

Focus Sam C Team

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
If you're going to use carbon, you might as well embrace all that it can do, which in typical German fashion was exactly what Focus did with their stunning 160mm travel, enduro ready Sam C. Just look at that cable routing!

Superstar Component's UK Made Headsets

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
What started as a bedroom business selling ti-bolts online has grown into a successful component brand that manufactures an increasing amount of its product range, right here in the UK. Superstar Components are a brand on the rise and 2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year for them, but more on that in a few months... This, their new UK made headset, can be not only be ordered in a multitude of configurations to suit all headtubes and fork steerers, but in any combination of colours as well.

Maxxis Madness

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
The Maxxis stand was an exciting smorgasbord of performance rubber. Especially if you're a tire nerd like me!
The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
We didn't count how many tyres were on display, but we'll hazard a guess and say the whole Maxxis range...

Pinarello Dogma XM 9.9

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
There aren't many bikes out there that have garnered as much controversy in recent years as this random number from 'drop bar' aficionado's, Pinarello.

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
Just because...
London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
... and why not? Yeah, the jury is still out on this one, but what do you think?

Sonder Transmitter

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
Discovering new and exciting bike brands can be the best thing about attending bike shows and Sonder, a new brand from outdoor gear experts, Alpkit, looks like a lot of fun and will certainly catch the attention of the burgeoning bike-packing and adventure riding scene here in the UK.

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
Love mud? Well, if you ride bicycles off-road in the UK, developing a love for the glorious stuff is a necessity...
London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
Love Mud is Sonder's component brand and like the bikes, is the brainchild of UK industry stalwart, Brant Richards.

London Bike Show 2016 - Randoms
Bike-packing has made its way, much like mountain biking did many moons ago, over the Atlantic and is already developing a following in the UK and why not? If you're going to go camping for a few days, it makes sense to do it on a bike doesn't it?

Radon Bikes

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
Radon Bikes are another German bike brand with an agenda... To offer great bikes at great prices and get even more people in the forests, out on the hills and enjoying the trails. Mountain biking is expensive, we all know that and know it all too well, but thankfully it's getting easier to get a spanking new ride with all the right parts for a lot less than it used to. Keep your eyes peeled for more from Radon in the UK and beyond...

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
That's not a misprint. We asked...
The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
Dripping with the good stuff too!

Rose Bikes

The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
No, they're not named after a flower and yes, their mountain bike range has been getting increasingly interesting in recent years - this eye catching number, their new Soul Fire, looks like a hell of a lot of fun!

The German's love their dirt jump and slopestyle bikes and it's great to see another brand offering this growing market, the right tools for the job.

The Jester slopestyle bike sports 100mm of travel via a concentric BB/ lower pivot design.
The London Bike Show 2016 - gallery 2
If you're a dirt jumper or BMX'r looking for a way to get your aerial fix without the sting of a hardtail or a BMX, maybe a slopestyle bike could be the answer?

Hungry?

The volume of stands offering free samples of their latest and greatest supplements, nutrition and energy products was insane. That said, it was also highly advantageous when you're running around a bike show and need a sugary pick-me-up!

The Pinarell looks awful. Don't let road bike companies design mountainbikes.
  • 29 0
Their video describing the Dogma had the greatest jargon groupings I've heard since Akira.
  • 22 5
Makes that Banshee look double amazing.
  • 106 8
Don't forget though, that Pinarello don't really aim their bikes at actual riders. Their market is Mr Audi Q7 who likes golf and goes riding on a blue run at a trail centre maybe twice a year
  • 32 13
I am not a fan of pinarello, but I rode the fs bike a couple of years ago. The handling was spectacular. Don't mistake pinarello for a big company run by marketers. They have stupid ads, but the products are top of the chain. The Pinarello family still owns it, and they are all cyclists. As a matter of fact, one of them passed away while riding a road bike event a year of two ago. 'Nuff said
  • 33 18
all pinarello's are ugly. rich people have poor taste
  • 19 4
Yeah. But Pinarello, in Italy, are not considered rich people bikes. That is more their UK and USA side of the company.

 Pinarell-no.

rich people will buy the most expensive bikes out there regardless of its performance and ability, just tell them its an exotic bike that most people wish they could afford and BAMM you've got a herd of sheep's it that easy, chi chi does NOT equal quality ex: EVE

Bollocks to you lot.pinarello is a refreshing change from the same boring stuff I keep looking at.

I had never heard about Pinarello before

  • 15 7
Also, not getting the rich people-expensive bike buying thing.im absolutely loaded and still buy second hand.

All of these bikes are "rich person" bikes. I know I couldn't justify it with my income.

You know its all bad when Pinkbike says "Just Because..." and " ... and why not? Yeah, the jury is still out on this one, but what do you think?"
Basically, Pinarello, YOU SUCK!
  • 5 8
evry bike review ever has the how many tues and/or capras could be bought instead conversion rate.

I think this is the only aceptable instance such rate would be justified.

So if someone cares to do the math.
  • 9 7
I disagree, any Pinarello is a beautiful bike, its just aimed at the Pricey & Flashy italian market, now how can you complain when a company tries to bring in new innovation – like which is found in the Dogma, so what if its not really practical and nice to look at.
  • 5 3
I think you'll find it's aimed at uk and us market.

So quick question about the uzzi. Is it just a 190mm rear travel or is that fox fork 190mm as well?
  • 1 0
that scott 27.5+ is just pure bliss.

  • 4 0
"Intense Cycles' eye catching Uzzi is a hard bike to classify" Uh... I think it's called a "freeride bike" or "park bike"... remember those?
  • 2 2
yes you are absolutely right, I remeber them freeride bikes were known for the bliss they were to pedal uphill.
  • 1 0
@martis What are you talking about ? Enduro, DH, trail that's all ! what is this bike made for fun that you speak of ? no one EVER had such a novel idea... I almost regret buying my banshee in 14, but I can't complain such a sick bike back up by an even sicker company
  • 64 1
I honestly didn't know what I was looking at on the pinarello, so I had to go to the website. Treat yourself and watch the video here: www.pinarello.com/en/bike-2016/mtb/dogma-xm-9.9. I was bamboozled by the jargon and before I knew it I'd bought two of these marvellous machines and got a free set of steak knives!
  • 33 0
Are you suggesting the bikes a gimmick? Because I actually wouldn't mind a new set of steak knives.
  • 36 0
Gimmick? It has "I.C.R., internal cable routing." Wow!
  • 3 0
I guess you could have those knives cheaper ...
  • 6 0
You only need to glance quickly at it to notice a whole load of WTF?!

Previous HT's weren't too bad but this is just baffling
  • 67 2
Finally a full suspension roadbike with innovative 70.25 degree headangle that, apart from making it ride like 15 years ago, also requires our own unique forkstopper technology. To adjust your saddle, you now don't ever have to struggle with a quick release again, but instead have to loosen only 4 bolts and try to tighten them down again while holding your saddle at the desired height. The dogma xm 9.9 - True innovative design!
  • 14 0
remember . . it is road bike technology . . lol
  • 14 0
The ideas are halfway there, but then deviate at the final moment in to WTF territory and finish off by being executed horribly with baffling acronyms and made up "technology".
  • 25 1
They do seem pretty generous. I didn't even have to buy a bike from them to get some freebies! I only had to watch the video of the bike and I already received cancer, and without any costs!
  • 11 0
I always thought that video was a piss take... To find that its actually serious is even more baffingly hilarious
  • 29 0
My mate asked the rep, so why is this twice the price of the Santa Cruz opposite. He looked bewildered and said "Because its a Pinarello".
  • 35 0
A Mountainbike that purposefully rides like a roadbike?
I'm off to buy a cyclocross bike with a suspension seatpost so I can hurt myself properly.
  • 31 0
You can't even barspin with this bike. So, fair to say it's the worst XC bike ever
  • 13 3
all that jargon crap is what grabs the attention of dentists, lawyers, and accountants, they love that crap, and at least they'd look different on their club rides.
  • 8 0
Don't forget that if you remove the stoppers you will have enough place to spin the fork -> wtf is this perfect triangle?!
  • 11 0
Idk why but that video made me angry
  • 18 0
"Normal suspension systems involve too many flex points with screws and bushings that require too much maintenance. Ours only has 5. Oh, and by the way we added 8 more bolts to attach your shock to the bike."
  • 4 3
Beautiful craftmanship but wrong ececution... Kind of sad
  • 5 0
Watched the video. I think my kitchen needs one. Haha. Jokes aside, it sounded cutting edge alright. Well, at least its not electronic.
  • 4 3
I like it. It Looks like a bike Wonder Woman would ride in a Marvel comic book. C'mon tell the truth... you'd all love to try one. I bet its quick and fun.
  • 1 2
 Too right.
  • 5 1
It seems to me that they are more concerned about the frame than actually making a bike that is any good off road.
  • 5 0
How awesome do those Rose bikes look?
  • 1 2
 Those jack seats are fab.
  • 3 1
I'm having a hard time believe either side of this argument. I get that a lot of bike companies had a similar layout (assuming a similar purpose) for their bikes, but it's not unheard of for someone to mix it up and get it right. Look at Nissan and the Deltawing. I will give you the fact that the video is designed to play in a dentist waiting room, but this is from a company that knows how to make very good bikes for the market they compete in. I'll wait for unbiased reviews or personal seat time, but I'm not expecting to ride one anytime soon.
  • 10 0
Pinarello road bikes are made in Asia but because they are painted in Italy and the paintjob costs more, they can put a 'Made in Italy' sticker on them. Mentioning this is how you get a dentist to cry into his machiatto.
  • 4 0
BTW, I have nothing against Asian frames, having owned probably twenty Giants.
  • 4 7

As an international web site with a global audience we have to use appropriate spelling where necessary to adhere to the largest audience group, which collectively is in North America, who happen spell 'tyre' as I have in the article above. I hope that helps @metaam?

I think that this is first time in my life when I see a frame with designed turning lock o_0 You can clearly see the influence of road bikes and I'm not entirely sure that I want such a thing in my MTB frame.

Although Dogma put a lot of effort in this project I think that only target group for their product are Hipsters. Frame looks nice thought Wink
  • 4 0
 * Pinarello.... "Dogma" is a model name not the brand. Not sure when hipsters have been in to roadie full sus XC bikes though Smile
  • 4 0
@BeardlessMarinRider you right Smile I was so impressed that I messed up - sorry about that Smile
  • 3 1
It's because they wanted the downtube to go directly from the head tube to the bottom bracket for max strength, but that caused clearance issues so they had to put bumpers. Interesting, to say the least.
  • 4 0
@kleinblake CF is such a amazing material that I'm truly amazed that is has to be a straight line to get the best of it strength. Through all these years they told us that CF provides fluid form with incredible strength at very low weight so now I'm curious if they were lying or Pinarello are little lazy and choose the simplest solution available Wink

Nevertheless Dogma is not my cup of tee I'll admit that Italians still produce things that looks gorgeous. It's like with old Alfas: you wouldn't buy one but looking at the thing is pure pleasure Smile

What's up with the bolt head sticking out of the seatstay pivot? That looks like it's right where my heel would swing. Otherwise though, killer bike. Could do for a degree steeper SA but it doesn't look too bad in the photos. Despite the weird seatstay bolt, it's nice to see a company actually giving some thought and ad-copy to ankle and heel clearance of rear triangles.
  • 3 0
 @SteveDekker I'm up for that
  • 2 0
@samfr1000 Sweet dude! Trails should be back in shape in a week or so.
  • 1 0
@SteveDekker I'll have to save my coins to buy a bike first. Although I could always purchase a bike while over there, much better value than here in Europe.
  • 3 0
@b26-4-life The bolt head isn't where your heel is, it's further back, and it's just got a nice alu cap on it to make it look pretty. We had these cool as fook drilled race bolts in the prototypes which do up with a spanner and everyone who rode it said "urgh, why isn't there an allen key there?". Can't win ;-)

As for clearance, actually making the seatstay out of steel means it's a much smaller, narrower section than it would be in aluminium, and the pivot for the droplink is a flat 2mm thick head to keep it narrow. Paul who works here is a horrendous in-heeler when pedaling and does rub the chainstay a bit, but doesn't catch the seatstay pivot or any of the seatstay strut. We do think about these things, honest!
  • 1 0
 Hey, thanks for the clarification!

 No worries. Happy to help.

So that Manitou fork on the Zaskar has a "booster"; that means they were thinking that far into the future they made their forks boost compatible before boost was even a thing. So either Manitou was another level back then or boost has been sitting for years just waiting for the right time to take my money?
Also, is the exciting news about Superstar that they'll ship to the US?
  • 2 0
No kidding! That would be awesome!
  • 2 5
Its a brake booster. used to stiffen up old cantilever brakes, nothing to do with the forks.

  • 7 0
I've given up, I've heard of a slow boat from China but these must be coming on bloody pedalo.
  • 2 0
I didn't enquire about the Minion's specifically @WAKIdesigns, but I did ask about the MTB ranges availability across the board and 2016 should be an improvement over last year... A lot of the major tyre brands struggled to fulfil demand last year, at least on popular lines like the Minion.
  • 3 0
Just get it shipped from the US. I have one coming Tuesday
  • 3 2
Thank you for answering Olly. It is incredible that the market is flooded with 2.3" versions in all disguises and wheel sizes, but 2.5" in 27,5 aren't to be found anywhere. I guess it will be Specialized Butchers for me then... I guess Maxxis won't cry because of that Big Grin
  • 4 0
That massive internal cable port looks sick, but if you run your back brake and dropper on the left it's on the wrong side. It will cause a kink that rubs badly.
  • 2 0
As much as I agree with most people on that pinarello being really ugly, i think that that thing on the downtube with "just because" written under it is a bump stop for the fork. If it is then this is actually a pretty ingenious solution to a problem on a lot of larger framed xc race bikes where the bars and shifters smash into the top tube in a crash!

Custom Scott Gambler at the top is sweet. Why wouldn't Pinnarello make a mountain bike? Just because Campy couldn't figure out how to make mountain bike components? Idoubt Pinnarello has/will bring anything new other than another choice for those who love and will buck up for the Italian through bred. Would have thought there would be more e bikes there.

That Rose Soul Fire looks like you could get quite some huckage on it. Also looks beautiful.

the 2016 Genius LT 700 is so sexy!! :O
  • 1 0
Is it a good quality bike though or is it just pretty and color-matchy?
  • 3 1
That digital cammo and orange is basically the best ever.
  • 2 0

Instead of showing off all of their tyres, Maxxis should get them distributed to shops so we can actually buy some!! Decent 650b tyres are like rocking horse sh*t in Europe Frown

That pinarello bike actually makes me angry.....i watched the video of it and was amazed how much nonsense was spouted.....i would like to write something positive to offset the negative comment i have written but in the style of the dogma i will add more negatives to suit its asymmetric styling.
i have bookmarked the video link so i can show others it for a good laugh. the seat post clamp is pure comedy and as for the nonsense about the lower shock mount point i cant help chuckle about that one what with all those extra bolts. Can someone please explain to me how having all that screwed into one side of the bottom bracket (a press fit i might add) and side loading that is preferential to not just having a conventional shock mount on the actual frame...

As someone who grew up riding GT, I really appreciated the throw back purple Zaskar. I remember watching Hans Rey videos where he would ride purple bikes and be so amazed at his trials and overall bike handling skills.

Cotic Rocket is a stunning bike and if the build quality and built in fun factor is half that of my Soul then im going to have to add another ride to the stable!!!! Awesome.

Intense Uzzi hard to classify?!? Ever heard of a freeride bike?

That Van Nicholas' Titanium Tuareg looks great I've owned a Dean Ti bike 20 yrs ago still like the look and the feel of a Ti frame
  • 1 0
Didn't see a sacrificial derailleur hanger in the photo. Straightening a titanium rear derailleur hanger is almost impossible once you bend it.
  • 4 0
 That Cotic! *drools*
  • 2 0
Not that I expect anyone to care, but VanNicholas is basically still selling Airborne's 2004 titanium line-up..

What a smile-inducing seatstay yoke. Proofreading. It could save your breakfast.

Sonder, sounds like "sender") Beautiful machine!

Painter-yellow should have named their bike the karma..

You know what sals...your right. The show was pretty shit...but Air to the Throne was wicked. Nicholi Rogatkin absolutely nailed his final run.

Having trouble classifying that Intense Uzzi? Its called a "freeride" bike.
  • 1 0
is it just me or do we gonna have a problem between Scott and Sonder concerning... logo copyright ?
  • 2 0
Banshee going with the MRP/Elka stage 5, that's interesting

Saw that purple Zaskar at the bike place show, v.nice. Also had a super V and a retro heckler, I believe.

That Cotic Rocket is a steel.
  • 1 0
Anyone know if that Sam C comes in a frameset only option? Mmmmm, German engineering......
  • 2 1
While the Intense Uzzi is a sick bike I highly doubt it goes up as well as it does down.
  • 1 0
I really like Kelli, that girl has my attention like a two wheel addiction.
  • 1 0
The Cotic is steel sex.... but the 'Rocket' ???? cum on lads, nooooooooooo !
  • 1 0
I'm amazed that no-one has mentioned how the Sonder logo is a blatant copy of the Scott one...

Sheffield Steel - The Cotic Rocket. Steel baby! And apparently some aluminum too.
  • 1 0
Yeah, had to do that to get it around the BB/cranks/chainring/tyre merry-go-round. We did build some prototypes in steel which were cool, but they were very fiddly and expensive to make. On balance aluminium was the best job for that part. Steel works ace for all the other bits (linkage excepted, natch).

I'm trying not to think about that one.
  • 2 1
The Santa Cruz Cheeseball 27+ looks ace.
  • 1 0
I don't know why Cotic loves high bottom brackets.
  • 1 0
It's not 'that' high, is it? We tested lower, but round here (the English Peak District) we were constantly catching out pedals when climbing up the rocky climbs we have. Got really annoying, and there wasn't a particularly noticable reduction in cornering performance with a BB high enough to not be always smashing cranks. The bike still rails.
  • 1 0
Pinarello should rename their bike bike to Knard McRackmen.

That stupid Scott tuned plus thingy is SHOUTING my name. I CAN HEAR IT!!!!
