Tree Branch Pierces Isabeau Courdurier's Foot at EWS-E Valberg

Jul 4, 2022

You can view the uncensored image here.

After not finishing EWS-E Valberg last weekend Isabeau Courdurier has shared an update after she caught a tree branch off track.

During the race Isabeau says she was slightly outside on a turn and happened to catch a sharp tree branch that went on to break through her shoe and straight into her foot. Isabeau has already had surgery and luckily she says that there are no broken bones or tendons.

bigquotesWell I did not expected my first E-bike race to end like that DNF and having to get an heli rescue.
I am ok now, well almost.

I am sharing this because it can happen to any of us racing or riding in Enduro! I went a little too outside in a turn and my front wheel lifted a sharp branch. I did not crash. The branch perforated my shoes (upper part) and foot entirely. Absolutely don’t swipe right if you don’t want to see it!

I have to say that it is very unlucky and that it could have happened anywhere. I was in very good hand with the safety team in Valberg and I can’t thank them enough for the help. I had surgery yesterday night to remove it and get rid of the unicorn foot. It went well and apparently I have no broken bones and tendons which is a miracle!

Thank you for all the messages and nice vibes

We wish Isabeau all the best with her recovery and hope she is back racing soon.

@fatduke: 42 states remained unchanged. Do your research. Also the parade that just got shot up as well as the supermarket in New York were done so in two of the most heavily regulated states as far as gun laws go. Also Japan just had a leading political figure that was shot and killed and…..oh yeah no one outside of police and military can have guns.

@darkstar66 @fatduke You all are correct guns are bad. Come take mine from me. That’s the responsible thing to do. You all are so smart you Keyboard warriors. I’m gonna go shoot guns and ride bikes this weekend. Have a wonderful life f*cksticks. My gun control is very on point. Can hit center mass from 800 meters(yes I said meters) my guns have never hurt anyone.

It’s nice to have the liberties and freedom to do so. I don’t tell you how to live your life. My life isn’t negatively affecting anyone else’s life that I’m aware of….

@scotttherider: To be fair a shot at that range isn't easy and my maths is sh*t so factoring all the x&y's is not worth the time. I'll stick to my 12 bore, chainsaw, diggers and bikes.

It was amusing having the little wind up, enjoy your life and don't let the weird gun nuts be a representation of you and your beliefs.

@fatduke: Funny how slaves scream at the free. And do so from a position of ignorance. Your "enlightened" "common sense" government will soon be bulldozing you into a mass grave. In that last breath, you'll wish you had a gun.

 @scotttherider: This is a mountainbike website...right?
  • 1 0
@Rexuis-Twin: @fatduke brought up shooting. This site is terrible about getting on political topics. Gun control largely is notorious for getting brought up. I’m a gun nut being I enjoy shooting and hunting. It’s not the gun that’s dangerous. It’s the person holding the gun. The vast majority of the gun violence in the us is done so by people that can’t legally own a gun or purchase one. Banning guns ain’t gonna fix our problem.
  • 1 0
@scotttherider: soooo the kid who shot up the school recently (I know it's hard to keep track these days) his were illegal yeah? All I'm saying it happend in the UK, Dunblane, they banned hand guns and automatic weapons, (or heavily restricted to section 5 ownership and as far as I know it's never happened again.......
  • 1 0
@darkstar66: Dickhead? Mad that I mentioned that you are a slave?
  • 1 1
@darkstar66: most of these acts of violence you’re going to hear about a small singularities statistically. The shooter in Texas shot 19 kids and 2 adults. He did legally purchase the gun used. I’m referring to the gun violence that takes place in Chicago, New York , Detroit. These major metro areas have some of the strictest gun laws yet have some of the highest rates of gun violence amongst convicted felons that can’t legally own a gun. In fact within the last two weeks another attempted mass shooting in a mall was thwarted by a civilian that was legally carrying a hand gun.

www.npr.org/2022/07/17/1111973024/3-people-fatally-shot-indiana-mall

Civilians with guns aren’t always a bad thing. 3 people still lost their lives but the actions of an individual that had a means to respond saved many more lives. If more people step up like the individual in Indianapolis you’ll likely see a decline in these. These psychopaths that are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame are scared little varmits. If there’s any pushback they shoot themselves.
  • 2 0
@scotttherider: you are using a gun related incident to justify gun related violence, while at the same time you have the highest gun related killings on the planet.

Once I said to a friend don't worry, that's natural selection, that's how us manages population....
  • 1 0
@scotttherider: I'm sorry but your argument doesn't stand up to any scrutiny or fact, I gave you a direct comparison to a country that's outright banned general access to many firearms. The result, almost overnight change to attitudes and no more gun related mass shootings.

Just admit that a nation that runs on gun related profit at best and addiction to firearms for fun will never admit that it needs to be removed completely as the general population cannot be trusted with the responsibility. How much death is justifiable for the fun of a nation

Think there may be some people who need to strengthen their stomachs if they are freaked out by the picture of her foot as I was expecting a lot worse with the ‘graphic image’ warning.

Would be interested to see the pointy end of the stick.
it’s a pet hate of mine when people cut trails and leave pointy branches sticking out of trees rather that taking them off smooth with the tree trunk. Was this a contributory factor in this case?

Anyway heal up soon and on the bright side, it missed the tat.

Agreed 100%. I was walking my dog with my wife and my wife stepped through a gap someone cut in the bush at the sidewalk to access the crosswalk. They had left a sharp stick at the edge and it took a big gauge out of her shin. Looked worse than most pedal strikes I've had.

Does make me wonder if any other top riders will risk dabbling with the EWS-E. If you're not doing the full EWS-E series and in contention for a title it seems like little reward for fairly high risk (even just from regular injuries rather than freak accidents like this).

I've been de-biked by a large limb that I couldn't see due to angle and sun angle. It was exactly like a joust, off the back of the bike I went speared in the chest -- luckily I was wearing armor that day.

Another time, I had a vine I couldn't see (again lighting and hauling ass) grab me by the neck and yank me off the back- it literally clotheslined me.

You just never know and when we ride off-road there are certain risks, particularly from different types of vegetation,
